chipotle is my happy place.
doctor visit. sick day from work. got medicine from walgreens. passed out in my bed. woke up hungry. drove to chipotle to get food because it was all I could think about. drove home. ate part of my burrito bowl. climbed back in bed.
good day or bad day, chipotle is a great addition. my usual is a massive burrito bowl. The brodie location has great staff--they are friendly and for me give HUGE portions. I'm talking...burrito bowl that last 3-4 meals.
steak burrito bowl
rice
black beans
corn, pico and green salsa
cheese
sour cream
lettuce
SO TASTY!
I love that their ingredients are fresh, they move people through the line quickly and efficiently (without being rude), and you don't have to sign your credit card receipt. yum yum yum. leftovers tonight.
This is a fairly typical Chipotle. The food always seems fresh and tastes great. I usually get the same thing (a veggie bowl) and it seems consistent most of the time.
The service is pretty hit or miss, but it does seem to be better lately. When my husband and I first started going a couple of years ago, it seemed like the people there didn't like their job or weren't interested in making your food. Occasionally the portion sizes are off, but if you ask for more they will usually give you more, unless it's meat or guac.
you can't really go wrong with Chipotle. I never have had a bad burrito or experience. The one thing that can be improved at this location is service could be faster. The line wasn't long when I got there but it quickly grew and stopped moving.
My usual is:
tortilla
rice
pinto beans
carnitas
corn salsa
medium salsa
cheese
I passed by this place for years before trying it, thinking that is just another stupid burrito place. Man was I surprised about a year ago when I finally gave it a try. I've never had a bad experienc e here and was totally addicted for a time, but now I go less often.
I don't know what is the "secret ingredient" as someone has said on these reviews. Somehow, the simple goodness is all there is to it. I recently tried to make a burrito at home the same way that they do it and it came pretty close. I just never though to put things together that way.
Here is what I get. Chicken burrito with rice, black beans, chicken, chunky salsa (mild), cheese and lettuce. That's it, and it's fabulous. (If there is a secret ingredient, it is the Jasmine rice with lime juice and cilantro. That is what makes it so special I think, and why my homemade version came so close.)
I also get chips and chunky salsa to go with it. The chips are overcrusted with big salt crystals, which is fantastic. I like salt stuck to my chip. Chips need salt.
These burritos are huge and I split one with my wife. As a younger fella, I would have killed a whole one myself, but now I have got watch the calories. You'll be over a thousand calories if you eat a whole one. (Or 22+ Weight Watcher points, almost a day's worth.)
The Dr. Pepper at this place is really, really good fountain soda.
Chipotle is my crack. I swear they add some secret drug to the salsa that makes me crave a burrito bol. While I feel a little weird reviewing a *gasp* national chain, I am compelled to share the beauty of Chipotle with the non believers.
The food: is awesome. The sour cream is creamy and tangy, the salsas are fresh and flavorful, and the cilantro lime rice is the ONLY rice I will eat in a burrito. The guacamole is the only guac I actually crave - for some reason I never feel the guac I get at local Tex Mex places is fresh like the stuff at Chipotle. Do you wanna know my order? Every time I get a Burrito Bol, no rice, just fajita veggies, black beans, roasted corn salsa, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, guac, and lettuce. Pure vegetable heaven in a bol.
The service: I've never had any problems with the service at this Chipotle location. At lunchtime it seems like the entire population of Sunset Valley wants a burrito. So order online or fax your order in. I also love the fact that I don't get weird stares from the staff when I give them my unconventional order (see above), just smiles.
The location: Is close to my condo, but traffic around this area is horrible during lunch time. Horrible I tell you. The streets resemble my arteries post-queso consumption. Sometimes I don't want to go to Chipotle because I hate the lunchtime and weekend traffic in this area so much. But alas. A pilgrim must suffer in order to reach the holy burrito grail. Onward, burrito devotees!
Like Camron, I got a coupon for a free burrito in the mail yesterday. And judging by how packed it was at lunch yesterday, I'm guessing everyone in my zip code got a coupon for a free burrito.
The food here is good, but it lacks all the options you can get at a local burrito place, like Freebird's, for instance. Only 1 type of tortilla, 1 type of cheese, 2 choices of beans, etc. They do make up for it, by stuffing that burrito to its limits.
Now I realize that evangelizing Chipotle on some level seems akin to blasphemy, what with them once climbing under the covers with the golden arches and all (a union since undone, I believe), and hell, it's a chain. Reviewing some chains separately, and this one would likely fall under that umbrella, is a little bit of folly. Bring your meats, beans, salsas, torillas and loads of black & white artwork, snarky typefaces, and corrugated metal: rinse, repeat.
But something occurred to me today when I sat down here for lunch, staving off the last of a heavy duty sugar crash. I may well prefer Chipotle to, say, Freebirds. Not a popular opinion, and there certainly aren't the options here you see at FB's. Certainly isn't the quirky Austin-friendly goofball vibe you get at the other place, but on a day when I needed a big fat taco and enough rice and cilantro to make my face sweat, there was Chipotle, with a heapin' helping of lovin'. This week they sent out a free burrito coupon, so everyone and their dog was in there on the cheap, but hey, it's occasionally good to remember that there is such a thing as a free lunch.
Just not often.
I'm giving this place four stars because of the inexpensive food for kids. I can get my two kids two small cheese quesadillas and some chips to share for $4.50. At most restaurants that's the price for one kids' meal. Plus, the reality is that we all share the chips.
I like their burritos, but the tacos are my favorite. The burritos are bigger than I really like and I'm not one for leftovers. But, it's a solid dining experience that I can count on.
My (ex)boyfriend would live here if he could. He would eat Chipotle for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He'd never get sick of it.
On a whole, Chipotle's got something for everyone. The tacos are yummy, I like the corn & mango salsa. I also really like the rice that they put in their burritos.
Their meat is fresh and their guacamole and chips are mouth-watering good.
When I am craving Mexican food and need food fast I head here. On my way there I decide what I want Burrito, Taco or Salad. I get in line and proceed down the line up of food choices as the guy/gal behind the food bar builds a meal designed specific to my taste buds. On my most recent visit I ordered a romaine salad and added chicken (very nicely seasoned/marinated) pinto beans, jack cheese, and the salsa with corn. Very good and what I would consider a light Tex-Mex meal - no need for a siesta afterward!!!
Forgot to add Cheap meal!!
UGH... and this is coming from someone who dreams about Chipotle burritos...
Good: Your typical ingredients. Clean location.
Bad: The service! They were terrible. They had 3 workers standing around. One must've just gotten on her break... since another one was taking LITERALLY 5 minutes to carefully stuff that other lady's 3 tacos. The lines were getting long and they all just completely regarded everyone else. I've never seen any employees at another Chipotle location look like they hate their job so much! It really makes me hate coming here too. My boyfriend and I decided that we're never coming back. They gave the PUNIEST burrito ever. Seriously - taco bell style.
sigh. and i love chipotle :(
My son and I were eating dinner the other day and he mentioned how he missed San Francisco burritos which we used to probably eat at least once a week. These are far from the best burritos Ive ever had but they are not bad either. A burrito from here equals dinner plus a lunch leftover for me, so not a bad deal plus I can indulge the kid in his San Francisco cravings. I am bitter that I let my free burrito coupon expire even though I had it hanging on the fridge for weeks. Maybe they will send me another one.
This is a great place to get filled up without emptying the wallet. Yesterday my husband and I were full for hours after splitting a burrito. We also got chips, salsa and guacamole all for under $10. I have to say, the service is great too. Even at different locations, the managers are always present and eager to explain. The only complaint was a sticky table but, we can overlook that.
The food is cheap. Staff is very friendly. Great Fajitas Bowl. The chips are good as long you love lots of salt on them. The guacamole is good also and the place clean. Lots of parking space in the area.
