I went snowboarding last weekend, against all common sense.

It was a holiday. I'm broke. And there was a storm a brewing.

So we padded ourselves in ski gear and headed to the hill, where I promptly began the kabuki dance form of snowboarding, involving skinning my knees, belly flopping, and last and most importantly, popping the buttons off my pants. It was artful.

Hmmm, I wondered. Do I eat too much? Is all the couch sitting the culprit behind this pants poppin mystery? Should I perhaps start a workout reg-----fuck it, I'm starving, lets get some Chinese baby.

E40 must have been talking about MSG when he wrote "Sprinkle Me," because those filler veggies and questionable sushi rolls were brimming with that tasty special sauce.

The hot and sour soup was actually, pretty damn delicious (thank you MSG) as was the chicken noodle soup (I'll kiss you MSG) and the mu shu chicken (You can move in with me MSG).

The cashew chicken tasted like air, and not in the cotton candy way, but in the they forgot the MSG way.

The servers were as cute as ski bunnies and super nice, which is probably because they noticed my expanding ass and were all stoked because they assumed (rightly so) that the soon-to-be fat girl who's ski pants don't fit any more would be ordering a shit ton of food.

I'm not gonna lie, this place is no San Tung, but when everything in Tahoe City closes for business at 5 pm and you're looking for something warm and filling, Chinese Cuisine and their MSG-lovin' philosophy did the trick.

P.S. I didn't wear my ski pants the next day.

We were quite confused when we tried to find this place, on Yelp it said "Yama-Sushi", wrong, it's now called "Chinese Cuisine" under new management for what the employees said had been that way for the past 3 years.  Don't worry sushi lovers, this place has your: ebi, hamachi, and tuna. You can even get that with a side of pot stickers and hot and sour soup :).

Something seems wrong about mixing these cuisines seems like a high probability for a disaster. The fish seemed pretty good, not amazing after returning recently from Japan. The sushi rice was hard and didn't seem to be of the right consistency.

Overall a solid chinese/sushi place :).

A cheerful, bustling sushi restaurant in the semi-cutesy Lighthouse Mall in downtown Tahoe City.  Very standard in conception and execution, and reasonably priced, so if you're like me in thinking that all sushi is good sushi, the place is pretty good.

Like every single sushi restaurant on Lake Tahoe (the first half of this sentence would have boggled the mind back in the 20s, when it first became a resort area), Yama has succumbed to the practice of offering all-you-can-eat sushi specials.  It's not pretty but it works.

Lured by the Chinese and SUSHI sign.

Definitely NOT by the generic name of the restaurant.

Yes, I know, the two cultures do NOT mix, but my plans were foiled anyways, b/c the sushi chef was not in the house.

So this review is purely for the CHINESE portion.

Decor: If the lights were dimmer or RED, I would have thought I was in a brothel.  Beaded curtains and beaded curtained booths.

The service is warm and friendly.  The server was a good sport, I would mockingly  read something off the menu and she would smile.  The menu clear, and in English, no less.

FREE soup to start.  Hot & Sour, not my cup of tea, but seemed tasty, if you're into that. The bf sucked it down.

Ordered :

Lunch combo w/chow mein, the bf nixed the egg roll & won ton chips.  Comes with fried or white rice.  Noodles are of the thick variety, not greasy and seasoned nicely.  I could taste all the naturally occurring flavors from the meat and the veggies.  Loads of good quality beef too.  $8.75

Their mu shu is called MOO SHI.  I laughed at that.  It's an AMERICAN invention anyways.  The 4 wrappers are not the best, but at least they weren't tortillas.  The filling was fresh cabbage, julienned bamboo, carrots, egg, abundant pieces of tender chicken and SHITAKE mushrooms.  Very fragrant.  Yum.  $10.75

Fortune cookies wrap up the experience.

We ate half of the meal and brought the rest back to So. Lake for a post-poker late night snack.  It was the perfect portion, didn't leave us running for water all night and didn't pack lard on our frames.

While this is probably the most friendly sushi or chinese restaurant I've been to in the states, the food wasn't amazing.  Considering they're hours from the nearest salt water fishing spot, I suppose that's not crazy.  They make the food fast, and the food was cheap ($200 for 8 people).

The best part, was, however, finding 3 year old Yelp name data.  At least the address was right.

I hate to give only two stars for this restaurants as the service was really quite good and the people are super friendly.  But the food, well, I'll let the two stars speak for themselves.  I was really craving some Chinese food on our fifth day in Tahoe City so we broke down and went to the only Chinese restaurant we see in town.  We should have known better but hey, when you get those cravings, it's hard to win.  We did not try any of the sushi so have no idea if those were any good.  The Chinese food was pretty disappointing.

The food is average but every restaurant in North Shore is like this except for Mikuni sushi at North Star.  The people here are extremely friendly and I will continue to go to this average restaurant because the people are so nice and the food is cheap so that makes the experience good.

The BEST sushi in north Tahoe. Wide selection of sushi, fresh, innovative, and popular. Come here early to beat the crowds.

Very good chinese food, especially for the veggie in your group.  Try the General's Tofu! Yum to the yum!  I really like the sushi here, it may not be SF, but hey, you're in Tahoe.  Best Black Dragon Roll I've ever had.  Or was it the Red Dragon?  Plus lots of tempura yuminess.  Not the very best sushi in North Tahoe, but a most most most friendly staff, and a fun time all around.  Mmmm mmm good.

Billed as low fat, no msg and "owner as chef" type of Chinese restaurant.  I ordered Kung Pao tofu and asked that it be extra spicy.  Wow!  It was spicy and good
