I have many great memories of going to the China Lite when it was still in West Lebanon. Now they have moved to the Regency Inn in White River Jct, but the food is just as good.
The atmosphere may not be as festive as it once was, but the owner Simon is very amiable and fun to talk to. His wife Gwen makes the most delicious cocktails. Some may describe their new location in the hotel as "seedy", but I disagree.
True, the food isn't real Chinese food, but some of the best Americanized version that you can find in the area. Their chicken and rice soup is delicious, as are the crab rangoons. They have a very large menu selection, but their dinner specials have the best value. You have over 20 choices for the main dish, and can have pork fried rice, egg fried rice, or vegetable lo mein with your choice of 2 appetizers. All that for only $7.75!
There's usually little wait too, which is always nice. -

Oh China Lite, what a let down. Some history:
This restaureant used to be located down on the busy rt 12A Strip in W. Lebanon, NH. Back in the 1980's it was crazy busy and lines were out the door.
Oh...times have changed.
They are now located on the 1st floor of a dumpy Regency Hotel off Sykes Ave. in White River Junction.
From talking with the owner, they lost their lease in W. Leb a few years back.
Dennis and I were heading north, lt was late, and I thought I would stop in and get some take out to bring it back to my parents home for a late dinner.
First of all, we drove right by it, because the sign was not lit. So much for being a "China Light".
Once inside, the entire restaurant was empty. It was 8:30 on a Friday night. There was a lounge in the front which some locals were drinking only.
This China Lite, compared to the old, appeared dark and dingy, poorly decorated and very quiet. The only staff was the husband and wife who appeared tired and run down.
I did proceed to order a combo plate, an order of scallion pancakes, and crab rangoon.
When I got home to eat, all I got was sheer disappointment.
The fare was greasy and virtually tasteless. Vegi's mushy and over cooked. The meat looked and smelled funky.
The only one that had a good meal was the coonies and Mr Fox out of the compost pile. -

Not There Anymore!
I loved this place when it was in W. Leb on the 12A strip, and was happy to see the sign when I drove through WRJ recently. I returned last weekend (May 16, 2009) to eat and discovered that the hotel it was in had been foreclosed on and the whole thing (hotel and restaurant) was borded up. So save yourself a trip!
