Review from Joe S.
Arroyo Grande, CA
This is a 5-star restaurant. As long as you order the real Chinese food instead of the cliche, tourist food. In other words, stay away from the fried won-tons, pu pu platter, egg flower soup, anything "sweet and sour", orange chicken, almond chicken, the regular fried rice, any egg foo yung, any chop suey, and chow mein. All of them are either ultra bland or overly salty; none of these are made for people who really appreciate Chinese cuisine. If these kinds of "Chinese" food are your style, go to Panda Express. But if you want some truly fine freshly-made Chinese food, this is the best on the Central Coast.
I eat here regularly and I've had maybe two items that I couldn't finish (usually because they're too salty).
My absolute favorite dishes:
sizzling rice soup
hot and sour soup
the best mu-shu dishes (especially, of course, the pork but the vegetable mu-shu is also fantastic)
Mongolian beef
beef and broccoli (get it with a light oyster sauce)
kung pao chicken (best if you get it with asparagus)
triple salute chicken (very special)
sizzling black-pepper prawns
sizzling black-pepper scallops
fish in black bean sauce
ginger-scallion lobster
Shanghai baby bok-choy in spicy sauce,
sauteed spinach with ginger and scallion or garlic (go light ginger, light garlic)
Szechuan-style fresh eggplant
Hong Kong-style sausage fried rice -

We tried this because of the Yelp 4 Star rating. It is pretty good. It is also nicely maintained and comfortable, in the old traditional style. I had Sesame Chicken and my wife ordered Cashew chicken.
We shared and both were quite good; more than adequate portions for $8.55. I would definitely go again, but don't expect fancy or gourmet.
P.S. They have a good early-bird special before 5 pm. -

good food and good service.large portions, we had the cashew chicken and the brocclli beef. this was our first time so we got there about 4;45 and thought we would try the early bird for 8;55 food was very chinese. the early bird runs from 2:30 to 5:00 we decided to try simply, to maybe save a couple of bucks the first time there. it was good, probably return to try some of the other dinners

This may be as good as it gets in Pismo, since there aren't a whole lot of options... Customer service gets 5 Stars! The building is not as modern as I've seen, even though there was a fish tank. I would go back just because of the service was nice.

My Grandpa had his heart set on coming here, to the point that no sooner did we walk in the door from our 3.5 hour drive we were immediately turned away and headed to the restaurant.
LOL Grandpa said we had to get there before 5PM because their early bird special is such a great deal. The special includes egg rolls, wontons, soup (egg flower or hot & sour), rice (steamed or fried), and choice of 3 different chow mein dishes (beef, chicken, or vegetarian.) The egg rolls and wontons are also vegetarian friendly.
The ambiance was that of a family, Chinese restaurant, however lacking the families. The food was not great, but it wasn't bad either. Mediocre, small town Chinese food. -

Solid and affordable Chinese food. I tend to rate Chinese food based on the hot and sour soup, and this place has the best and most consistent soup in the five cities area. Service is typically good and lunch specials are great.

I have been searching the nickel cities and San Luis Obispo for the best Chinese food, and this is it.
The restaurant itself is cute and small, and the server is really cool. I only do take out, so my review is mainly about the food, but I think that if I ever decided to dine in I would be very happy. The same guy is always there and he is really friendly and remembers me and my usual order, which is a big bonus for me.
The chow mein is the main reason I write this review. I do not claim to be an asian cuisine expert or anything, but their chow mein reminds me of the kind I used to get when I lived in the bay area, and that is what I've been looking for. Big, thick noodles, large portion, and reasonable price. -

I'd feel horrible giving this place a bad review--the people were SO NICE!! Honestly, this is one of those small family Chinese restaurants that excels in service--polite, efficient, always smiling and wanting to please. The food was not great, but it was certainly satisfactory. If I went again I'd probably try something else because the food we ordered was kind of bland. We got three entrees instead of a dinner combination and they still brought us an orange for dessert. Really--best customer service anywhere. And it was really clean!!!

This food was so bad- I gave it all away to a homeless guy. Order $45 worth of To Go menu sampling for friends at our house, tasted every dish and the were all rancid. How can you mess up steamed rice! Don't waste your money!

so I took my friends there 2 weeks ago cuz they insisted going to a chinese restaurant. I knew China Gourmet was not gonna let them down and they really were very happy with the food. We had this seafood soup (i don't really know that name for the soup cuz the boss recommended it so we just went for it) it was real good! And we had mongolian beef, beef green beans, kungpao chicken. The food tasted perfect and everybody left happy!!

San Luis Obispo, CA
Undoubtedly one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. This place was originally another Chinese restaurant, but that flopped. Lunch menu is a good deal and is served everyday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You get to choose your soup (egg flower or hot n sour) and your rice/noodle (steamed or fried). I liked the mushu shrimp. The interior of the restaurant is really clean and inviting as well.

We tried every Chinese restaurant in the area. This one is absolutely the BEST.
Vegatables are fresh and cooked perfectly. Fresh herbs are used.
Not the standard cornstarch ladened sauces from the other Chinese restaurants. -

The best place to go for cheap, good tasting take-out chinese food in the area hands down. Their wait staff sucked before, but is much better now, i almost always take out though. Plus they are really really cheap for lunch especially.

vege egg fu yung......... Amazing
Fried wontons.......... Friggin Fried Goodness
honey garlic chicken........ must have EVERY time
