Review from Kristi M.
Denver, CO
I reserved the Coach House for a bachelorette party weekend. I thought the location, price & staff were all perfect! We were able to host a spa party and a private chef cooked us a great "hangover" breakfast the next day - all things we couldn't have done at a hotel. The location has neighborhood bars and tourist stops, so you really are in the heart of the Lincoln Park action. The staff was extremely easy to work with (especially since I was booking the place from out-of-state). I'd say the décor is a little specific to the owner's taste, but for a place to sleep/host a large group that wants to stay together in the heart of Chicago, this is it!
Specialties
In Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, China Doll has complete self-contained apartment suites with a private entrances. Unlike a Bed & Breakfast, there are no shared facilities.
We also tend to your personal comfort. There is a private two-person Jacuzzi and steam room (robes and slippers provided). Entertainment consisting of premium cable TV, VCR's with a library of movies, stereo, and CD player can be enjoyed either in front of the fireplace or in bed. During nice weather enjoy the deck and private garden.
For breakfast, help yourself to the variety of coffees, teas, juices, muffins, bagels, cereals, fruit, yogurt, cream cheese, and other fixings.
Other amenities include washer and dryer, and built in ironing board.
The neighborhood offers a broad range of restaurants, theaters, bars, and live music. Kingston Mines, Chicago Blue, Briar Street Theater, Lincoln Park, Lake Michigan, and the beach are within walking distance.
History
Established in 2001
China Doll is named for my wife Yanan, the Chinese Doll of China Doll. It started when we began offering our separate guest bedroom apartment through a reservation service. We then added our website. The concept of renting a complete private home for about the same rate and a mid level downtown hotel room became so popular that we added 6 other properties, our sailboat, and now help others rent their furnished apartments by the night.
Our many repeat guests attest to the fact that, once you have stayed at China Doll, you will never want to stay on a hotel again.
Meet the Business Owner: Yanan H.
Yanan is the "mom" of China Doll. Born in Harbin, China, the cold Chicago Winters seem almost mild to her. During the difficult days of the Cultural Revolution Yanan was an opera singer in the entertainment corps of The People's Liberation Army. She came to the United States in 1989. She now oversees the daily operations of China Doll making sure that our staff adheres to our very strict levels of cleanliness, amenities, and service.
