The value to price ratio is astronomical at this little-Peruvian-restaurant-that-could in Bushwick.  Monica and I split a whole chicken, rice and beans, and an avocado salad tonight for a meager $23 (including tip) for the entire spread.

We only waited twenty minutes for our meal to arrive.  At first look the chicken looked overdone, but it only took one bite to realize that it was exceedingly moist with a perfect rotisserie char on the outside skin.  The rice and beans were perfect and while the produce wasn't amazing, the avocado salad was as good as we expected.  I dumped the stupendous spicy green sauce over EVERYTHING and got bit after bite of wonderful peruvian flavor.

Chimu's gonna be a regular in my carry-out/delivery rotation.

holy Christ this chicken is good!!!!

expertly marinated and seasoned and rotisserie grilled to utter perfection.

get a 1/2 chicken with fried rice and salad for 9 bucks.  it's worth $20.

only ever had take-out but the inside of this place looks like a nice little oasis in the Wick replete with San Pellegrino bottles on each table.

I've been to a good number of Peruvian/rotisserie chicken spots throughout Brooklyn and this place is for sure in the top three.  It's kind of a diamond in the rough - you wouldn't expect it from the typical restaurant in this area but its kinda classy on the inside and a great place to go out for dinner and some wine.  The ingredients are all fresh, and whoever the cooks are can make a mean steak.  To top it off, it's not expensive and you get real servings.  It's about three blocks from the Dekalb L, and they seem to have a good delivery range.  I dunno, what's not to love?

After half an hour of deliberation, the man and I decided to search for some good eats in the area. We'd pretty much exhausted all delivery options, save a Chinese joint and a couple taquerias. In comes Chimu Express, a 4.5 star option that we had never noticed before. All we needed to read was "Peruvian" and "Green sauce" and we were sold.

I found the fact that the rotisserie chicken combinations were served with fried rice as opposed to rice and beans odd, but decided to go with it. I was not disappointed. The rice was FILLED with flavor, and the roast pork bits inside were nothing like the pink, gristly pieces you'll find at your average Chinese hole in the wall. The red peppers were a great touch.

In addition to a combination (chicken, fried rice and a salad) I just had to order Papas a la Huancaina (I think the woman taking our order laughed at my pronunciation). This dish = Giant chunks of perfectly cooked potatoes in a creamy cheese sauce with a hard boiled egg. Generally it's rich and delicious, but I think the fact that the driver got lost took its toll. I had nuke it up and the sauce pretty much died. The green sauce helped in that department, but I think from now on I'll stick to ordering it in house.

The quality of the food and the prompt service (25 minutes even with the delivery guy getting terribly lost) have won me over completely. It's definitely my new go-to restaurant in the hood.

PS: If my review isn't convincing enough, my Peruvian coworkers frequent the place and recommend EVERYTHING, especially the ceviche. This recommendation comes with many dreamy sighs.

Do it.

The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because I haven't had enough Peruvian food to truly say it's as good as it gets.  We ordered for delivery and were actually surprised that they delivered as far as our home.  I mapquested it, and it's almost 1.5 miles, pretty far to come by bike for a $20 order.  The guy on the phone was very pleasant, and the delivery was fast.  We ordered Jalea with rice and beans, and it was ON POINT!!!! Translation: it was very yummy!

If I were rating my overall experience, I would give it 5 stars.  However for me to say "it's as good as Peruvian food gets," I would have to sample some more Peruvian food.

So I will be stuffing my face in the name of research.  What? It's for your benefit!!!!

The goobs I've ordered:

Rotisserie Chicken -- really tasty and juicy.  Pour the green sauce on the top but make sure to save some for dipping.

Tallarin Saltado with beef -- I ordered this and the guy replied "chow mein with beef" which was not comforting however it was really good.  Pour the green sauce all over this, no need to save for dipping.

Entraña (grilled skirt steak) -- really tender and well cooked.  I ordered medium rare and it was actually prepared this way.  Dump the green goob all over and complement by dipping into the provided side of garlic aioli.

Sides:
Fries:  Dont bother ordering these because they wont cut a hole in the box and they show up with a consistency closer to mashed potatoes than fries.  If you do order you should dip in the green sauce.

Rice and Beans:  have you tried this classic combo? Really good but make sure you dump a bunch of the green goob on there.

Salad: dont bother with this either.  The dressing is kinda ranchy, really not good.  I tried it with the green sauce oops.

Finding good food in Brooklyn is definetly a challenge - So one evening, i was craving steak, searched on Yelp and came across Chimu and Allan G's review. well, Allen G, you inspired me; with a name like Chimu, I would of never given this eatery the time of day.
I, ordered the combination, skirt steak, with their version of chinese rice. well, hoenestly...It was delicious! The skirt steak, was juicy and tender. the fried rice, to die for. Its hard to impress me when it comes to food, but Chimu has found a place in my..."corazon".  Give it a try.

Love this place. The food is soooo good, and the guys who work there seem to be very nice and accommodating.  I never have an issue with delivery.  I usually order the aji de gallina, yumyumyum.  And the sweet plantains aaah.  Two thumbs up

I love the food from this place. I live just a block away, so it is very convenient,  Dine in, take out, and delivery services are great.  I have tried them all out.

Like other reviewers here, I get the combination platter (skirt steak, 1/4 rotisserie chicken, salad, and pork fried rice).  Every component of this platter is incredible. They serve good healthy portions, so I always end up having left overs.  I am a very picky eater, so I am thankful for such great food and such a good price.

Try their soups too. My girlfriends always get the soup with shrimp (can't remember the name).

Everyone talks about the food, but don't forget to try the sangria. It's great. My friends and I always get a pitcher or two.

The food here is really delicious.  So far I've tried the #3 Combination plate with 1/4chicken (very tasty and juicy) served with roast pork fried rice (wow - amazing) and salad..  I've also tried the Lomo Saltado (steak) which was a new dish for me and tasted great.

The food is fresh and the staff is very friendly.  I've only gotten items for take-out but the atmosphere is slightly above average for Bushwick: quite clean, several sit down tables, a juke box, and some nice decorative touches on the walls.

The biggest plus are the prices.  Those, considering the quality of the food are why I'm giving it a top rating.  The combination plate described above cost $7.00 and was a total feast.  The most expensive item on the menu at this time is a grilled skirt steak dinner for $14.00.

I love Latin cuisine and Peruvian was something new for me.  I'm really pleased to find this within walking distance of home.

My dinner here was fantastic (the Tacu Tacu Entrana, skirt steak with rice and bean pilaf). Only $12 and I had plenty left over to feast on for the rest of the weekend. The service was friendly and helpful; the waiter patiently answered all of our questions, pleasantly made suggestions, and consistently refilled our water glasses without being overbearing. The only shame is that we were the only people eating in the restaurant on a Friday night. Then again, maybe everyone else was ordering delivery, seeing as they will (impressively) travel as far as Willamsburg and Greenpoint.

As far as Bushwick goes this is a Five. But that's if you count the Mexican place that I was served cat in a sour cream sauce or the Puerto Rican place where I was served cat in a verde sauce. But for the rest of the world it is just a three.
The aguadito soup had nice flavor but the chicken was all mystery pieces until I determined that about ten of them were necks. In Peru you guys may eat this stuff but here in a place I call America we don't eat necks. We take the bones out of things after the "stock" is made and then once we make it "soup" we put nice pretty pieces of chicken in that don't remind us that something dead is going in our mouths. I know that is so "culture of packaging" or whatever Mario Batali might call it, but chomping into a crumbly neck bone makes me not very hungry and reminds me again why I go into Manhattan every day.
The rotisserie chicken was okay but the skin wasn't as crispy as I like. The spicy, creamy green sauce is amazing and the rice and beans were great, too.
I am going to try it again, I just won't get the soup next time.

this is a more casual Bushwick outpost of a Williamsburg favorite, Chimu. last night i sampled a half-chicken with rice & beans, and it was excellent. their spicy green sauce is great too. the ambiance is that of your basic Bushwick formica eatery with jukebox and counter and a TV blaring a spanish-language version of some samuel jackson vietnam movie. note, the entrance is actually on Stanhope just south of Irving. also note, they deliver!
