I took my date to Chili Thai (3712 9th St SW suite #4&5) in Puyallup. It sits in a little strip mall across the street from Famous Dave's by the Puyallup Mall. I had heard about it while visiting my favorite dive bar in the area (I won't say which, 'cause it's crowded enough) by two different people. I asked our waitress how hot I can order a dish. Chili Thai rates their dish's hotness by a star rating of 1-5, but if I requested, they will to a "perfect 10".
I ordered a Green Curry noodle dish with shrimp, green peppers, mushrooms, curry and some other things. It was out of this world! I ordered a 5-star hotness and the waitress looked at me a little funny. She was very sweet (and Thai) and asked if I was sure I wanted a five-star. My date, knowing first hand (actually "first va-Jay-Jay" is more like it, 'cause she felt the burn one night after I consumed a third of a bottle of Dave's Instant Insanity and went "downtown") how I like it answered for me by declaring, "Oh, HE'S sure! and the waitress still had this warning look on her face. I was pleasantly surprised at it's burn. Five was just enough to get my nose into a slight drip. It was then that I noticed others in the dining room with the same affliction, as evidenced by their blowing of their noses. I also ordered sticky rice which was perfect, and the waitress brought out a caddy full of their hottest spices and peppers to complete my fiery experience.
I was apprehensive when I pulled into the strip mall, but was very pleasantly surprised when I entered. The atmosphere was very warm, authentic and slightly romantic; not at all what I had expected. The waitress was very, very attentive and earned her 25% gratuity. When I go again, I will be sure to have the waitress bring the extra napkins first thing.
This place serves delicious, flavorful food and I can be pretty picky when it comes to Thai food. Sometimes bad phad thai tastes like they used ketchup for the sauce but this place makes it perfectly. I came with a large group and we ate family style and ordered mango shrimp fried rice which was strangely good. I usually don't like fruit in my dinner entrees but this dish worked. We also ordered tofu phad thai, chicken and greenbeans with basil and chicken satay. I didn't have any complaints about the food and is one of the best thai places I've tried so far. I'll definately be coming back here again whenever I'm in the area!
Whenever I come to Puyalllup to visit my family I make sure to visit Chili Thai. It's my little oasis of deliciousness! I hardly ever eat Thai in LA because I can't find anything that measures up to the Thai I ate when living in Seattle. Chili Thai is as good as any of my favorite spots in the city, and the friendly service is better than many of them.
I love their spicy catfish, how do they get those basil leaves so crispy and perfect? The house spicy noodle makes me sweat, and that's the way I like it! The panang curry is like a bowl of happiness, spicy, ever so sweet, creamy and delicious. On my last visit I tried a salad my parents were raving about and it was excellent. I wish I could remember the name, but it was citrusy and hot and made my mouth very happy.
We love to finish our meal with a shared dish of coconut ice cream that is creamy and delicate and wonderfully topped with cashews and toasted coconut. It's the perfect ending to a meal of bold flavors and spice!
Chili Thai is the only good thing in Puyallup, or the South Hill at any rate.
The service is excellent. The interior is comfortable. The crab wontons are always good, and the cashew tofu is first-rate.
My only complaint about Chili Thai is that their beef dishes never seem to reflect the Thai seasoning one would expect - that's why I order the tofu dishes here whenever I'm in Puyallup.
Our favorite Thai place in Puyallup. If you have never tried their Chili Thai fried rice give it a try. I also like their curries a lot.
YUM.
Wow.
The Chicken Pad Thai just rocks, it is so good. The quantity is fairly massive, We were able to make 3-4 meals out of one order. It had a good mix of chicken, nuts, shallots and sprouts...and the yummy noodles!
Probably my most favorite Thai place ever. I was first introduced to it by my friend who attended PLU and have been coming back ever since. The portions are hearty and the staff is always more than accommodating to special requests. Also, the service is quick but not pushy. I am a huge fan of their curries and my friend loves the mango fried rice.
The Chili Thai in Puyallup is spectacular! The food is great and so is the service. A few times they have messed up the order. Over all it is a great restaurant!
We love this place, the food is delicious and it's darling.
Compared to Ayothaya Restaurant, this place didn't compare. I tried the Phad Thai and the sauce was way, way too sweet. I also compared their crab wontons and it too wasn't as tasty. The waiter we had was very pleasant, however, he didn't offer to do anything when we mentioned that the sauce was too sweet. I wasn't expecting a free meal, just either a re-make of what I had ordered or something else. I left disappointed and won't be going back.
The service at this place was top-notch. It deserves five stars just for that. The food was decent -- not the best Thai we've had here, in Western Washington, but certainly worth going back for -- the Massamun Curry was good -- not great... Krachai Thai Restaurant in University Place serves up a better example, but Chili Thai's was worth checking out. We also had the Kee Mao Noodles which were good, if you like basil (I'm not a huge fan, but other people in our party liked it). Really, though, this place stands out because of the service they provide. We didn't have to wait to be seated, we weren't rushed to order, but we didn't have to wait either. Our glasses were never empty and anytime we needed something, it was taken care of quickly. The service alone means we'll be back!
Like Ted said, the service there is unbeatable. Went there twice now and had a different server each time. Nonetheless they were both very attentive and the water glass never at any time was less than half full. The full was pretty good as well. Not the best or most authentic Thai but was very satisfying. The fresh spring rolls are good and so is the red curry. Pad thai was also yummy as well as their fried rice. They are the best thing about Puyallup.
This is a quaint little thai restaraunt right off the freeway. And, lucky for me, they're the nicest people ever. My favorite server is LeeAnn-although, she is only there when she's not in school. Overall great atmosphere, not to mention delicious curries and crisp veggies. The Thom Yum ain't too shabby either.
Some of the best Thai food I've had in Washington+great service+terrific value+a location less than 5 minutes from where I live = an EXTREME threat to stable weight levels. That aside, this restaurant is not only one of my overall favorite Thai places, but one of the best overall restaurants I've ever been to. Go here now!
this place is super yummy. we ordered take out last night for the first time, and it wasn't too bad. i always choose the wrong noodles, but the sauce was really good. the veggies are fresh and they have a good variety. very fast on pick up, so that's nice. my son loves the rice and noodles. we will probably eat here again.
