Recently checked out Chile Verde on Bethel Rd. and enjoyed the food. The service, however, was not so good.

First off, the complimentary chips were good. The salsa was mild, onion-y and served cold. Tried the white cheese dip and it was very good with the chips.

I had a grilled chicken taco salad which was served on a small bed of lettuce with sliced avocado on a soft tortilla. It was a pretty good dish. My partner ordered a grilled chicken quesadilla but instead received a spicy steak quesadilla. Our waitress didn't come back to check on us so we couldn't tell her she got the order wrong. Still, it was tasty. Also ordered some chile verde sauce which I heard was good and spicy but the waitress never brought that either.

Overall, good Mexican food but not very good service.

(Scene: 5 seconds after walking in and sitting down in a booth)
Sir are you ready to place your order?
-Um no
OK no rush I'll be back in a few minutes
(2 minutes later...)
Are you ready now
-I guess...

This was our waiter.  He was kind of over the top and was not a good waiter.  I ordered fajitas, because I really wasn't in that much of a Mexican mood and they sounded good at the moment, but after a minute of eating I saw that they did not have hot sauce on the table... So I asked the waiter, and he asked if I wanted the verde or just franks red hot, I kind of shrugged not knowing that the verde cost more money so he said he would bring out the verde sauce.  So he brought out the verde sauce in a large serving which i was surprised by but thought nothing of.

It was good, but the problem came when we got the check, there was a 2 dollar charge for the sauce.  My thought was why would you have not told us that there would have been a charge for the verde sauce?  I mean the menus were gone and I did not think anything of it.  So when it came time to pay the bill we subtracted 2 dollars from the tip and left a note explaining why the subtraction was made.

The food overall was ok, nothing great, but the sauce incident and overzealous service brings this place to a two star.

LOVE this hole-in-the-wall, family-owned restaurant! My husband has been eating here since it opened (which has been a LONG time!) and introduced me to the place many moons ago. While Mexican food isn't my favorite, Chile Verde's cuisine is more southwestern American (and not Tex Mex either)- drawing on flavors and dishes south of the border, but with more of a New Mexican twist.

I've never tired of their tamales or the hot green sauce. In fact, all of the salsas are made in house and are super fresh tasting. For the portions and quality, Chile Verde is very well-priced (averaging $10/ entree). The owner is a friendly chap who is almost always on hand, seating people and working along side the waitstaff. Always a good sign....

Chile Verde has a full bar with Mexican beers and a pedestrian selection of wines. Most folks, however, come for the margaritas, which are often voted best in town. I am not a margarita connoisseur, but my friends who ARE appreciate the variety and the use of high end tequilas.

The restaurant has only about a dozen tables and half as many booths, so expect a bit of a wait on weekend evenings, otherwise, you'll be seated rather quickly. The food is totally worth the wait. Chile Verde is the prime example of a great restaurant being tucked in a boring strip mall with simple signage... a place you might not consider going into without having heard of it (or perhaps, without seeing the line occasionally stretched out the door)

This place was great! I just ate here yesterday after reading lots of  wonderful reviews.  I am from the Southwest and since moving to Ohio I have not been able to find a shredded beef chimmichanga that I have liked as much as this!  I ordered it with the red sauce and a side of their spicy green Chile sauce.  I must say it was excellent! I was not impressed with the beans or rice. The chips and fresh salsa were excellent, as well as my delicious margarita on the rocks!

The service was speedy and our waiter was very helpful and friendly.  I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. They just expanded so they do have more seating then in the past, but I would still recommend  reservations on the weekends or  to get there early.

Went last night for dinner with my boyfriend after a horrendously long day full of snow! I had heard rave reviews of this place and finally made the trek out.

The scent alone when you walk in the door made me even more hungry than I already was! All of the staff were so friendly, and after a long day nothing is better than totally nice strangers. That's how I feel, anyway.

We had queso with the gratis chips and salsa, and it was all delicious. I probably could've eaten my weight in all of it. If you screw up melted cheese though, things really must be bad. The salsa was fresh, full of chunks of tomatoes, etc, which I love.

I had the chicken and steak combo fajitas and my boyfriend had the signature bbq burrito. I loved the vegetables/meat/poultry selection for the fajitas, but felt like it could've used a little bit more spice/flavor. I was able to put away 3 fajitas and had to give the 4th to my bf - they were so filling! Aside from the veg/chix/steak, they also came with a large bowl of cheese, lettuce and tomato and a small side of sour cream. i also had a side of guacamole (i am addicted) but felt like i was a little cheated on the quantity. other than that, delicious.

overall i loved the place, although the bf didn't feel it was worth the trip out to sawmill when we have some great places in our own backyard. i'd like to go back though to try more options as well as a few of the sides! it was hard for me to make a decision on an entree in the first place, so a trip back for me is going to have to happen.

Average Southwester food. The tamale was okay, I got the impression that it had been steamed without the corn wrapper since it still had the cook's freshly squeezed handprint under the sauce. I may be back to give them a second chance.

By far, one my most favorite restaurants in town!  I love Mexican, and have tried it all, but this is NOT Mexican.  Ha ha ha, it's Southwestern and is the most refreshing change from the regular slop on a plate.  Side note: I do still order and enjoy my regular slop on a plate from time to time.

Their salsa is the best I have ever had.  It's ultra fresh with the perfect consistency for me: not too blended but with visible veggie chunks.  The margarita's are good too.  Actually, nothing really wow's me here.  Except that every margarita tastes wonderful to me.  Get the pitcher, it's a better deal.

I am now a peskaterian (no meat, but sea life and eggs or okay), but when I was a meat eater, I practically made love to my chicken and marinated steak fajita salad.  The most tender strips of meat I have ever been served, fajita style.  Now I opt for the regular Fiesta? salad?  I don't remember the name of it, but I pair it with either the black bean soup or southwestern tomato bisque. Both are outstanding.

When you head up to Chili Verde, you may drive past it the first time.  It's located next to Bike Source and a Swan Cleaners in the shopping center at the Northeast corner of Bethel and Sawmill.  It's behind Burger King.  It's also a fairly small restaurant.  Typical busy hours would be end of the week lunch and dinner.  You may have a brief wait in a kind of non-existent waiting area.

Bethel Road contains a number of interesting places to eat from all over the globe. My girlfriend and I have tried a variety of them out of curiousity. One evening she suggested Chile Verde and it has since become a staple in our weekend dining.

The upside
queso
margaritas
anasazi fajita burrito w/ chicken
bean burrito w/ chile verde potatoes
reasonably priced
the after meal food coma
the owner is there and working with the wait staff

the downside
the wait
It is usually no more than half an hour but when you are craving the food it seems like an eternity. We learned last night that they are expanding in March 2009!

Above and beyond any food considerations, we got the best service EVER.  We had a nice chat with the owner ... 18 years in biz ... fresh chiles flown in from New Mexico daily ... handmade chips & salsa ... at the end, we were offered complimentary sopapillas and also something that started with an X --- like "fried cheesecake."

The restaurant was not nearly as "hole in the wall" as I had imagined.  It looked like it was newly decorated ... very up to date.  They are also expanding the dining area in March 09.

As a vegetarian, I was disappointed that the Medium Red sauce and the Hot Green Chile sauce are both made with chicken stock.

But overall, I enjoyed my veggie quesadillas and fresh chips and salsa and sopapillas.  I would happily return.

One of my favorite lunch places in C-bus. Also of the few that I thought the food to be spicy.

My favorite was the soft tacos with spicy ground beef. Two good sized soft tacos overstuffed with spicy meat, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. You can also get shredded beef or chicken.

I was also a fan of the Green Chile Stew. It doesn't seem hot, 'till about 1/2 way through. Good thing they give you tortillas and serve a good margarita.

I have complained a few times that the chips are cold and stale, but no changes yet.

Is it authentic southwestern? Beats me. But it's fast, good and reasonable.

I think its because people like to say...Salsa

First off if your expecting Mexican don't go here.  This is New Mexican.  Yes, there is a difference.  The use of green and red chilies are a cornerstone in New Mexican cuisine.  I used to live in Los Alamos, NM for a little bit last year and Chile Verde is def up to par.  I started off with a Margarita (which hit the target dead on) and proceeded to the chips n' salsa.  The salsa was average but oh well.  The black bean soup was fan-freakin-tastic.  My buddy had the crabcake nuggets and they were very good as well.  They had a nice blend of cornmeal and veggies that blend nicely to this flash fried goodness.  Now for the main event.  I ordered a ground beef burrito and the chile relleno.  They messed up and gave me a tamali instead of the relleno but I was glad they messed up.  This may have been one of the best tamalis I have EVER had!  Now the thing with New Mexican is that you HAVE to get either the green or red chili sauce over your dish.  I went with the "Chile Verde" sauce. This green spicy goodness made this dish complete with flavors that brought back memories of the South west.

Just a note if your going on a Friday night you may want to call ahead.  We had to wait over a half an hour but was well worth the wait.

The Guac was off the hook. Order extra

Having read lots of good reviews of this place, I was expecting something really excellent. What we got was really average. I really loved everything about this place except the food. Sure, the portions were huge but everything tasted the same. The meat in my chimichanga was great quality but really bland and boring. I got fed up with it quickly, and never did get round to eating the half I took home. The accompanying rice was undercooked, and the pinto beans were nasty. The margaritas, however, were awesome. Our server was really friendly and attentive, and I loved the decor and atmosphere, but we'll be sticking with our regular Mexican restaurant. Maybe it was just an off day.

Get here early on the weekend because this place fills up fast! Tiny with only a handful of booths and tables the word is out and the crowd is here. Chile Verde is my favorite Mexican around. Its my post finals treat for a quarter well done. Its location is tricky as it hides on the back end of a strip mall but once you find it Chile Verde will stick in your mind.
I have to pace myself with the chips and salsa. The chips are crispy and salty and if there is a salsa tree than Chile Verde salsa is picked that day. Spicy and delicious get an extra bowl to put over your dinner. The tortilla soup is great too. Also spicy and fresh with shredded white chicken it is lick the bowl type good.
For the main course I get the blue corn enchiladas with shredded chicken and beef. Because frankly I just don't know which one is better. My boyfriend swears by the enchiladas suiza and the tasty green sauce on top. I have always been to busy stuffing my face to ever try his, so we'll  all just have to take his word.
The Margaritas are great and I don't even like Margaritas! Somehow I feel wrong if I don't indulge in at least one of them. Ok, maybe more like two. The service is personable and the servers seem to really like their jobs. If I was eating Chile Verde free everyday I would too. I like that Chile Verde is family owned and that the owner is on the floor if you have any problems. Not that you will.
Chile Verde is a tasty little sensation that is worth the food coma I go into immediately after eating.

This place is fantastic!!  I recommend the verde (green-hot) sauce.  In fact, I have my entire meal smothered in the sauce.  (chicken burrito, beans and mashed potatoes is my norm).  I always leave with a smile on my face and stuffed!
