Dr. James and Dr. Gupta were names given to me by my OB/GYN, Dr Hardiman. They are both absolutely great. They run a small and new pediatrician's office in Cambridge/Belmont, and I really enjoyed Dr James (we've since moved), so much that I wish we still had her. She spent lots of time with us, and our newborn son. She was incredibly thorough, answered all our questions, and asked questions about me as well. Most pediatricians I've met with have focused solely on the baby, she was also concerned about me (since I breast feed) and did a lot to help us out in the early days with that. She's very expressive and positive, and I always left feeling like a better mother. :)
I highly reccomend both her and Dr Gupta.
Dr. James is the BEST pediatrician I have have ever known! I wish I was young enough to be her patient. I am very grateful that my son is being cared for by such an intelligent and clinically gifted MD. I am a nurse and have never doubted Dr. James' expertise and opinions.
Dr. James is super! She is always very upbeat and happy and seems to really love her job and seeing her patients. My daughter has been pretty healthy, so most of the time we see her just for check-ups and talk about general guidelines: this is what she should be doing at this stage, here's how to wean, etc...
I appreciate most that she is level-headed about kids' health and puts risks in perspective. She will explain both sides of a particular issue and let you comfortably decide what you think is best. For example, she told me that the jury is still out on whether delaying exposure to nuts & other potential allergens has any benefit. I don't really 'get' the allergy craze (I guess we've been lucky), so it was really a breath of fresh air to hear Dr. James say that my daughter could eat anything I would eat (minus honey till 1 year) well before other kids I know started. I also know, however, that if I wanted to hold off on the nuts, she would have been just as supportive.
She also gave me the choice about which vaccinations to give when. She told me that she thinks it's bogus that boys don't get the HPV vaccination too (they are the major vectors of the virus), so we'll probably hit up both our kids (I'm expecting a boy this summer) when they are older and there is more research published.
Her partner / guy who's there when she's not, Dr. Gupta, is just as approachable. He's Indian and thought it was perfectly normal that my daughter started pooping on the potty at 8 months (my real motivation was to avoid another dirty cloth diaper). It IS normal in India, even though it's kinda freakish on this side of the pond.
The few times that my daughter has gotten sick, Dr. James has been very quick to call me back and sometimes she's able to take my call immediately. She's accurately told me what to expect and what to watch for.
As a doctor, she's perfectly competent & clearly up-to-date on the latest research. As a mentor / consultant, she's really easy going and patient and pleasant to be around. What more could you ask for??
We love working with Dr. James. She is very thoughtful and her medical advice is based on the latest studies and research. She usually presents a couple of options for treatment (e.g. prescribing antibiotics vs. letting things run their course) and explains the pros and cons to both. She also seems to truly love her job - working with kids and interfacing with us parents. We feel very lucky to have found this practice!
