For Brooklynites, this is is probably one of the best no frills places to grab a quick and extremely cheap sushi meal. You can literally order a salad, coke and 5-7 sushi rolls and spend less than 30 bucks. The place is decorated nicely. With the exception of the flamboyant delivery boy walking in and out of the store every ten minutes and the tables of russian locals who think they are at buddha bar this place is a hit. Best bang for your buck when it comes to getting good spicy tuna, eel avocado and dragon rolls or whatever may suit your palate.
Multiple locations but this is one of the newer ones and way better than the location on quentin road which has that dated/worn out, one fish in the fish tank feel that most places usually have.
As long as the russians in leased 740's who pay with food stamps to annoy you, great place to eat or rather save yourself the hassle or in some cases good laughs and just order ahead and take the food to go.
Honestly, all of the sushi places have the same deals. the same 2.50 rolls the same special rolls. I come here once a season because either other places are full or whoever i am with chose this place.
no compliants about this place. its as good as any other.
One of the better locations than the other two.
The place seems more modern and feels hip.
The service is not annoying
The food is good and enjoyable - spent a few hours there with friends just talking and eating.
The wait staff is attentive.
Would go back if it was not so far away and had some one to go with.
For the price, Ric T is right, this place is pretty good... But overall if you plan to use this as a date spot, you are nearly guaranteed no buns. Its good for to satisfy a quick sushi craving, but not much more. I d have to say take out is certainly the way to go here.
And yes the thing bout the annoying russians is true.
Pretty average sushi, all in all, and probably not worth coming out of your way for this place. But if you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out Chikurin. $2.50 rolls! I know that's not exactly an amazing feat in this area, since everyone seems to serve half price rolls all the time. This place, however, is pretty good, and above $2.50 a roll quality.
I can't vouch for atmosphere and service since we did take out and it was my sister who went to pick it up. The service was fast, though, and she said the place was absolutely packed. Places are only packed for two reasons. It's good food at a good value or it's a trendy place that people mindlessly follow. And the latter is out, since NOTHING is trendy about Sheepshead Bay. So therefore you have your answer.
This place was a lot better when it first opened. They seemed to have slacked off once business became regular. The food is pretty decent for their price but ever since Masakari opened, I have never gone back.
I hope it's not a sin to really enjoy 50% off sushi in Brooklyn. I know it's not the best, but it gets the job done when I'm craving an okay spicy tuna roll, Alaskan roll, and an eel avocado roll. Yea, I crave all three. At the same time.
Green tea ice cream here is meh, I prefer Sachiko's (on Brighton Beach).
But Chikurin is consistently busy with people, no matter what day of the week I go. Kind of weird decor, some Japanese "art" is scribbled on the wall on one side and an awkward looking Japanese grandpa chilling out scribbled on the other side. I take it for what it is: okay sushi at a super great price.
Oh yea, I'll be back. I get my three-roll cravings once a week. At least.
CHEAP SUSHI! When you're used to paying $5+ per roll 50% off is damn good. I've only been to the one on Ocean Ave, regardless if I am in this area of Brooklyn, I'll stop in. The sushi isn't top notch but for that price its great. If we eat in, I prefer the private booths. Sake is basic and they did have a full bar.
Over the past few months, I've been eating/ordering from here a lot more. They seem to have really picked up their game. Their rolls and sushi have gotten considerably better and now even their kitchen food has picked up. It's still not on par yet with Masakari down the block on the kitchen end, but their sushi bar is clearly better now.
