The sushi is so incredibly cheap and just for that they deserve 5 stars. Classic/tempura/Vegetarian rolls are all $2.50 and taste great!
I will say one thing though: while the rolls are delicious and the miso soup is one of the best I've had, the individual sushi isn't always fresh so I wouldn't recommend ordering it.
+ I had converted a devoted non-sushi person to eat sushi here.
+ many menu options. Sushi and bento boxes are great. I love thier fried ice creme
+ roomy place, nice style, and have floor /traditional sitting for larger parties
+ great for groups
+ clean bathrooms
Good prices, good sushi, delivers to my apartment her in Koshatown. I'm a fan. In fact I'm stuffing my pie hole with it right now. Mmm that's a lot of tuna........
My boyfriend loves this place and converted me to come here whenever he is in town. Sushi is really cheap. Have no complaints.
For people that are picture people in menus, everything they serve has a picture. Yeay or what?
This place has great sushi for the price. Everything is "50% Off" so you can expect to pay $2.50 for your basic rolls and a little more for speciality, etc. They have a ton of options. The sushi is pretty fresh but not as fresh as it gets. I've had much better sushi before but for the price, it's worth it.
The indoor eating area is ok. It's nothing fancy but it's not too shabby or dirty. I prefer to take out. They have some seats that looks nicer than others. For example, you don't want to get crammed in the corner near the back where the staff is. I'd say it's best for a quick lunch or dinner when you're not expecting anything too fabulous other than some good sushi.
The sushi is a good deal but the service is really lacking. If you come at a busy night, you will get extremely slow service. They just do not have enough waiters for the tables. Always check your order too if you're with a family and you order many rolls - they once forgot a roll that I ordered - worst part - it came 20 minutes later...that's how busy they were
I think they like to keep it in the family so they save money by just having a few waiters.
The fish is acceptable (the sushi chefs are always busy (no booger picking ;) and they always seem to be filleting another fish because the orders are endless all day....) it is fresh but the quality is not something that will really stand out. Also, they are generous with the fish in their rolls, which is good in this economy...
So unless you've been spoiled by other high end sushi, this is worth going back.
I don't know if this Chikurin is affiliated with the one in Queens - but if I had to compare, this one is cleaner, cheaper and the fish turnover is much higher. I've never had not so fresh fish here, but I did once at the Chikurin in Queens.
I've been a regular to this place since 2000.
back then it was still called Nanatori.
The sushi is really cheap and all of their food tastes great.
I recommend going with company, it will make for a better time.
When arriving, the best paces are to sit in are the booths or the private rooms which have a 50 dollar limit. Sitting at the middle tables is not that fun, you see everyone and everyone sees you as well as the staff constantly walking by and some tables have poor lighting.
Over the years the waiters have changed for the better and all services are good and they also have free delivery and pick up, as well as pre-order before you go there.
I personally enjoy their lunch specials because there worth your buck. A meal with rice, salad and miso soup.
I personally recommend their Chicken Maki and Tonkatsu, they come with Japanese mayo which tastes really yummy.
The rolls are really good, eel and avocado, Philadelphia and others.
Every time I go there I try something new, so don't be afraid of its name, It might end up being your favorite meal.
They also have yummy deserts, everything from green tea ice cream to tempura ice cream and fruit assortments.
I love this place! I live within walking distance and this is the place I take my friends whenever they're in the neighborhood. Everything is reasonably priced and the menu is absolutely huge. The restaurant itself is also a decent size and I've never had to wait for a table. There are several private rooms available but I think they require a minimum of 6 in a group in order to get a private table. They also deliver with a minimum purchase of $10. Portions are large and I always leave with leftovers enough for another meal.
I'm not sure who owns the restaurant but most of the staff is Chinese. (Taishunese, to be exact.)
The waiters would come every 2 minutes to see if we are ready to order. - where is the fire?
The atmosphere it self was OK nothing special, the booths are a bit cramp to sit 4 people in.
The sushi it self was just OK not as great as the other location i had sushi at.
Would only go back if did not sit in a both and went with a group of friends other than that might as well do take out.
oh man, i almost wish i didn't find out about this place but i'm so glad i did. $1 sashimi delivered to my door!! fresh, generous portions. delicious, creative fancy rolls, none over $10. juicy shumai, crispy dumplings. delivery was fast and accurate. sooo many menu options. a chikurin addict is born.
Interior is old and needs renovation. Dishes and glasses are old and the scratches are noticeable. Service is slow and it seems that if you don't catch a waiter, they will never come to your table and ask you what else you would want to order. If they would do that as normal sushi bars do, I would buy 25% more from them on the subsequent orders. But they didn't do that. Be prepared to catch waiters, otherwise you will starve.
The food itself is cheap. You can eat a lot of sushi for your money. Drinks are cheap as well. $3 for a glass of wine. $2.5 any roll of sushi. Sushi themselves are quite large. So, don't over order. All in all, I give that place 3 stars. It's not a remarkable sushi, but the portions are large and cheap which is a plus. You can visit that place one or twice a year, but not more often.
cheapest and the best sushi around!
