Like a migrant gypsy, elusively appearing in random locations to charm you with her mystic wares, Chicken Real has been sojourning up and down Lebanon Pike. Randomly camping at varied locations, Chicken Real has been slinging some of Nashville's favorite hot chicken for years now.
Gratefully, the caravan has finally found a permanent home. Located in Shiloh Plaza, right at the edge of Hermitage and Mt. Juliet, Chicken Real has set down roots.
So let's get to what really matters - the food. Unlike some other hot chicken joints in Nashville, the spice is in the batter, not a rub, so this chicken isn't greasy or flaming red. In fact, just looking at it, the fried bird at Chicken Real looks a lot like what you would get at KFC.
However, that's where the similarity ends. One bite, and you will know the meaning of hot chicken. Served in levels from mild to deadly, you can order your chicken at whatever heat level you can handle.
The wings are definitely a favorite - however, anything off their menu will satisfy that Cajun craving. You would be amiss, however, to simply stop at the chicken.
Almost as famous are the burgers. Or at least, what they call burgers; which, in reality, are more like whole cows between buns.
When you go, make sure you check out the specials of the day. The menu rotates, but if you go on Friday, the special is "customer request", meaning, if you have a craving for something not on the menu that day, they will be happy to make it for you.
