When i first saw this place I felt like i'm at country side where u can smell cow or hore poo lol Store itself looked really old fashion country style.
But the food taste amazing!!!! it's bit of too greasy but whatever it's fried chicken.
I ordered bbq ribs, bbq brisket and fried chicken.
All of them taste good except bbq sauce was lil too pungent.
There's nice tiny patio u can seat and eat.
Come try it's worth of travel and money! -

Chicken was very good.....and I liked the homey feel of this little hole in the wall. The only reason I dropped a star off was the lengthy time it took to get my order.....of coarse it was a busy Saturday night....so really I give it more of a 4 and a half.

This place has been around for years, there cheap prices and daily deals is what keeps them around along with the delicious food to go with the price! If you take a look at the menu in the pictures you will notice they have a variety of sides to choose from and they also have chicken tenders for folks like me who aren't to big on chicken pieces. The inside is super small, it designes as if you are in "grandma's living room" from Kansas, cute environment and alot to look at while you wait, the wait is long, so feel free to call in advance, i waited 15 minutes for a 2 piece meal, so the inside is a waiting area only for orders, and just outside the patio or "front porch" of grandma's house, is a small area to eat there. Will for sure be heading back again! :)

I've been coming here for well over 10 years now since my parents and I accidentally found this place. After all this time, it's still THE best broasted chicken I've ever had! Try their mashed potatoes, too. Order ahead and pick up your order though; I've had to wait almost 40 mins one time. It gets really busy with almost no place to sit. It's fairly priced, moist, not oily quality chicken, I tell ya. Enjoy, and get ready to claim this the best chicken place!

Somebody please tell me why I've passed by this place a bajillion times and I've never tried Chicken Box until recently? When we walked in, it felt like I was inside a mini Knotts Berry Farm. I ordered the 3 piece meal with fries and macaroni salad to go and 15 minutes later, I finally got to take a bite out of my broasted chicken and OH MY GOSH the juices come rushing out with flavor. It was juicy, tender, and you know what's the most surprising part? IT WAS A BREAST PIECE!!! The skin is crispy and crunchy and seasoned so perfectly! The crinkled french fries and macaroni slad was alrighttttt compared to that freakin chicken! Make sure you get the boysenberry punch with your meal. KFC ain't got nothin' on these broasted chickens!

Their broasted chicken is okay if your comparing to Korean chicken. If you never tried Korean chicken then this is the place to go. Their chickens are two thumbs up. So much better than KFC and healthier. FYI this place isn't for people who love over fried and oily chicken. First time, I recommend trying it out on Monday because they have awesome deals. I highly recommend to call and order because you going to be there for awhile. Don't bother eating there. You will know when you get there.

Great little treasure in the city of La Habra. Their chicken is delicious. Very moist and tender. Rarely do my girls eat all of their food but they finished their chicken and mashed potatoes. Get their famous boysen-berry and crushed ice. Above all, their friendly service was just as great as their food. Will certainly be back.

Three stars as opposed to four only because I expected so much more. Prices are reasonable. The chicken strips are far better seasoned that the regular chicken pieces. The side portions are small.

We had a craving for some good broasted chicken and decided to come here on a Saturday night on October 15th. I ordered the 4 piece meal and my mom ordered the 3 piece meal deal. The chicken is really moist and the skin is really crispy which I like. My two sides were mashed potatoes and macaroni salad and they were good. My only complaint is that it needed more flavor but I think that's what you give up when you get broasted chicken instead of fried chicken.
I do want to try their ribs since I heard positive reviews from the table behind me and also would like to try the Monday broasted chicken special so I will definitely be back. -

Pretty good tastin' chicken! Nice little location, a bit nicer than the one in West Covina. Nice big potato spuds! Rolls are so-so and the cold slaw is a bit bland. The chicken is the star here!

Remember the special is on Mondays and it's recommended that you order via telephone, this past time I ordered it took 45 minutes to prep... allowed me to take a jog, shower and go eat guilt free ;)
The more you eat here the more you realize what a wonderful deal is the $11.99 is!!!!!! 10 pieces of amazing chicken and your choice of fries or broasted potatoes.
This time around I got the fries instead of broasted potatoes and lemme tell you, this has got to be the most heavenly 10,000 calories you can eat.
The chicken pieces are huge... I would say if you compared 10 pieces here to 10 pieces at KFC you're looking at about 25% more meat... the breasts are HUGEEEEE.
I would go as far as to say that Chicken Box should be experienced by EVERYBODY at least once in their lives!!
P.S. Sometimes the restaurant will close on Mondays in observance of family business (I'm guessing), if that's the case they'll tell you via an automated machine when you call in.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I've been wanting to try this place for the LONGEST time and finally decided today was the day i needed to satisfy my fried chicken craving. So heeding the advice of the previous yelpers, I decided to call in my $11.99 Monday Special order about an hour before I was going to be able to pick it up and was surprised to learn my order would be ready in 20 mins! Must have been a slow Monday considering I was ordering around dinner time. Food was ready at my designated pick up time and it took every once of will power not to tear into it on the car ride back to my house...my fiance also refused to let me eat in his car :(
We decided to spend the extra $1 for the mashed potatoes/gravy instead of choosing fries or broasted potatoes...and it did not disappoint! I usually try to limit myself to two pieces of fried chicken but I decided to screw my diet and ate a breast, wing, and (2) drumsticks! The breast pieces are a good size and was sooo good and juicy.
I do like my food spicy so hopefully one day they will have a spicy seasoning option. I am definitely a fan and this will definitely be my new fried chicken go-to spot...luckily for me it's not too far from my house! -

Broasted = baked + roasted?
Broasted = broiled and roasted?
Who knows but the chicken was juicy and tasty. You won't get the crispy outside like a true fried chicken but the trade off for flavor is worth it. a nice amount of spices and salt. The breast was one of the juiciest pieces of white meat I've ever eaten. The mashed potatoes are well worth the upgrade. Real chunks of potato and lots of gravy. The gravy was very reminiscent of KFC. Same color, texture and flavor. The cole slaw was a nice cold compliment in the meal. A refreshing bite. The bread is eh, not worth the calories. -

I been wanting to try this place due to soo many people I know raving about it and seeing it on yelp has made me hungry for chicken. I love the feel of this little Chicken Box restaurant.
I have to agree with everyone this place is pretty good, better than what I expected and the chicken was juicy and not at all dry. The place is small, family owned and looks like it has been here for years. I now know why!
Passing by this little store soo many times and never once stopped by due to always forgetting about it. But now it is my memory and I won't forget it.
La Habra has one of the best chicken spots ever and I can't believe my eyes. Sometimes I feel like a person finding treasure when you come to one of these locations. It looks so simple in the inside but the taste of the food is so amazing that you would want to come and eat it all the time.
I ordered the Tuesday/Thursday special it was two pieces of chicken which I picked breast and wing * I think they charge 39 cents or so for the breast/wing* and I ordered two sides The broasted potatoes and mashed potatoes. I would say skip the broasted potatoes they were just large pieces of potatoes. But do try the mashed potatoes.
The chicken was huge, I only ate the breast with a little bit of potato. It was very filling lunch but a satisfying treat. I'm glad I got to try out a new place and actually like it so much! I will defiantly be back for the Monday special !Listed in: Whittier/La Harbra/Orange…, Top Restaurants, Deep Fried

What came first the Chicken or the Box? The Chicken of course. Didn't you read the sign?
Broasted Chicken is one of those moments where you get to glimpse Heaven. I would appoint a sixth star on my rating, but Yelp won't concede the point.
When you drive up to Chicken Box and walk in, you should feel a little nervous. It doesn't LOOK like the kind of place that should serve the WORLD'S GREATEST CHICKEN. However, your nose will be at utter odds with your eyes. Your nose (and soon stomach) will be screaming "BUY SOMETHING!! FASTER!!!" A broaster place has a distinct smell that is wonderful.
They make your food to order, so call your order in. You do NOT want to sit there and wait. Its worse than being 6, waking up at 530am on Christmas morning, seeing all your presents and stocking, running into your parents room, jumping on them, just to be told that you are NOT allowed to wake them up or touch ANYTHING for another hour. The smell is THAT good.
Upon receiving your order you must refrain from ripping open the bag and eating everything UNLESS you only ordered for yourself. In that case; one, you are selfish and; two, by all means, rip open the bag and make a fool of yourself ... its worth it.
Now I've read all kinds of things that say broasted chicken is better for you that fried chicken. I have no idea if it is true, but anything this wonderful tasting has to be bad for you. More to the point, I don't care. If someone could prove to me that eating broasted chicken could be directly correlated to a long and slow death, my response would be, "I'll take the four piece meal." The chicken is crispy on the outside and filled with juices on the inside. Its crispier and juicier than any fried chicken I've ever had, but doesn't seem as oily. Its the perfect food. You have to order the broasted potatoes with your chicken. If you order french fries, Saint Peter will pause before letting you through the pearly gates due to derision. Alongside, your broasted chicken and potatoes you have to have something healthy, but you are going order the coleslaw. We wash it all down with something light, a roll with lots of butter and honey. The butter helps everything slide down ... yeah.
Now, realize there is basically NO WHERE to sit at Chicken Box. We will forgive them because they let us glimpse Heaven. Besides you are going to eat WAY TOO MUCH anyway. So, upon the conclusion of your meal, be prepared for a nap. At least 20 minutes, but preferably 8 hours.
Recap: Heaven, you get to taste it. Saint Peter will not like you if you don't order the broasted potatoes. It tastes better than it smells (hard to believe). You need to take a nap.
FINAL NOTE: You need a damp towel to clean yourself afterward, because after the first bite, you, like everyone else, will turn into a pig.Listed in: Chicken Should Be Fried

mmmm... broasted chicken (chicken deep fried in a pressure cooker)... the chicken is so fresh and the meat is so juicy and tender.. I'm a dark-meat kinda girl but even the white meat here good =).. oh and they have sweet potato fries!.. and If you're looking for a deal, you've got to get their Monday special. They "storefront" is just that.. they sell a large collection of chicken-related nick nacks but mostly you walk in to order and wait (~15 minutes) or call and order ahead of time (since the chicken is cooked to order)

3.5 stars..
Chicken is pretty good..crunchy on the outside and soft inside..but, you definitely need to add some hot sauce or something to spice it up. I'm not too big on the whole broasted/broiled chicken, but If you like your chicken, you should try this place out. Popeye's chicken definitely has more flavor although this chicken "seemed and tasted" more healthy.
They have a $11.99 Monday special that gets you 10 pieces of chicken and a side.Listed in: La Habra, CA

If it ain't Chicken Box I don't want it!
Young teens running the counter who don't care if you drove over an hour to get there. No exception to last call. Today it happens to be 6:45pm. We make the cut but sorry for the people a minute after. Guest don't care either. They know its that good.
Order ahead and get the boysenberry drink. Invite me too -

Review from Vince V.
This place aint chicken to flavor thier chicken. If its one place who can be boasting about thier broasting its Chicken Box-Broasted Chicken in La Habra. They have chicken, they have mid to late americana period crafts for sale and they have one cool tree in the front.
On Whittier, in a residential/business area exist another great broasted chicken spot. No, there are not a ton of broasted chicken places today, but unlike original nintendo, cindy lauper, chevy chase, the berlin wall, alf, mr t cereal, shoulder pads and leg warmers broasted chicken is still relavent.
This chicken was great, very juicy, savoring a flavor I could not quite name, was not oversalty, was not over-seasoned, was not dry, not flavorless, it just had a great taste. The breast piece was moist and flavorful enough to eat without any sauce or side on it. The broasted potatoes were huge, soft and crunchy, nice texture, but they were unsalted (is that good or bad), with salt they were perfect.
They had a family special for 19.99, 8pc, potatoes or fries or mash potatoes, 4rolls and a side. The employees there were cool people, freindly and courteous, they were doing some cleaning and maintenance when I got there. Plenty of parking and next door to Marie Calendars. There are a few tables inside and on the front porch area.
I went during the evening, so I cannot rate thier lunch swing. Kudos to tonights staff at Chicken Box for a great meal. I do plan to come back and try other items soon.1 Previous Review: Show all »

La Mirada, CA
I really like fried chicken and this place does not disappoint. The broasting method makes a moist chicken that is not greasy and the batter has a great flavor.
The place is obviously made to cater the take out and not the dine patrons. There is very little room for dining in but while we waitied for our food there were quite a few people who had come to pick up their order and that would definitely be the way I would go next time. Call in and pick up. It is probably one of the best breaded chicken around. -

I thought the chicken was pretty good... the chicken was cooked through which is very important... it wasn't greasy... the chicken didn't taste seasoned.. it was a little on the bland side... the broasted potatoes also had no flavor... I got 3 giant pieces with the order... I had just a few bites.... I don't really get to eat fried chicken cuz the husband doesn't really like it... but this place is somewhat close... but better than the chains...
oh and it is LOUD in there... they crank up KFROG so it's hard to hear anything... -

BEST CHICKEN in OC! BROASTED CHICKEN... BROASTED POTATOES are FAAAABULOUS... Ive never had chicken so MOIST and CRUNCHY at the same time, until my sister found the CHICKEN BOX... I really enjoyed their mashed potatoes and gravy, sister enjoyed the cole slaw.. I ordered their fried zucchini once and was not too impressed..
The chicken most certainly makes up for whatever the place is lacking...
Its definitely a quaint little place. Parking is limited, there is hardly any seating, (only outdoor). If you bring children, make sure they are well supervised as the decor is floor to ceiling and are quite fragile.
DEFINITELY a TAKE OUT kinda place. The UNBELIEVABLE aroma of chicken wafts through the little parking lot. They have a MONDAY SPECIAL that is pretty good.. I have not yet tried anything else, but i do know they serve shrimp and ribs...
TIP: CALL IN YOUR ORDERS.... especially on MONDAYS... I called in an order and was told that it would be an hour and a half... I went to pick up my order an hour and forty five minutes later, when i got there, the line was going out the door and i still had to wait 20 mins. But i cant stress enough how awesome broasted chicken is and if you DO have to wait.. let me tell you, ITS WORTH IT!
HAPPY EATING -
Review from J'aime K.
Los Angeles, CA
Their 5 STAR fried chicken (not sure what Broasted means) is outta this world! Perfectly crispy, SUPER moist & meaty, goodness that kicks KFC's butt! Big time.
The only down sides are: there is a min 15 minute wait. They seriously make it fresh to order. The roll was dry (lacked moistness) but it was packed with buttery flavor (some how?). The cole slaw was tasteless, but the cold temperature proved to be a good offset to the fried factor in the chicken. They charge $.15 for water cups. In the event you eat there, there is no trash can, you have to ring the bell, have the cashier come back out and take your trash.
You need to ask for ketchup, hot sauce, & moist towelettes, they don't just give it to you.
I would go back for the Monday night specials. Mainly with a focus on the chicken only. It's THAT GOOD! -

Chicken Box is crackin'. Good deal, cheap. Per Yelp, we ordered the "Chicken Dinner for 2" in advance. They forgot out coleslaw for our to-go order though. It was some tasty chicken. Go inside to order specials that you won't find online. Really, call ahead if you don't want to wait. It took our order only 25 minutes. Not bad!

La Habra, CA
The restaurant appears to be pretty old, so I assumed it must be good to have stayed in business this long, but the food was terrible. The crinkle cut fries were barely warm, very dry and old. The broasted chicken was also barely warm, very dry and old, but it was tasty. The ribs were barely warm, dry and old. Dry, cold, and old.

I used to work close by and went to the Chicken Box many many times for lunch. It is not meant to be a dine-in experience. It is primarily a 'take-out' place. Broasted Chicken is actually a trademark name. It contains herbs & spices just for them. The method of cooking is just the steam pressure unit. I love their chicken. I never cared much for the potatoes but that is just a matter of taste. I only tried walking in once after that you know to order ahead of time because the cooking method simply takes the 15 or 20 minutes and that's if you are the only order. The cooking method (not flavoring) is the same at Stater Brothers Deli. If I lived close I'd frequent Chicken Box at least once a week!

Review from Kathy C.
I'm not gonna lie. This chicken is pretty darn good. It's super crunchy on the outside while still being moist on the inside. By ordering the Monday special, you get the best bang for your buck.
I've tried the broasted potatoes and the other various offerings at Chicken Box. I'd suggest not wasting your time with the other items as they are lacking in flavor.
The chicken may be good, but the employees there are strange. They're not the friendliest restaurant employees I've encountered, and yet they're not outright rude. Let's just say that the word welcoming doesn't come to mind when thinking of the staff. This could be a deterrence for most, but you don't have to deal with them much as the place is takeout only. -

Ohh....The Chicken Box. Like Orange House, Tubby's, and La Habra 300 Bowl, it's a landmark in the LH.
Before coming here I didn't even know what "broasted" meant, but deep frying anything under pressure sounds (and is) absolutely awesome. The giant potato wedges are friggin amazing.
Great food that's perfect for summer concerts in the park or if you are too lazy to cook for a BBQ.

This place is good. The chicken is definitely pretty good. I don't usually like white meat, but this place has good broasted chicken.
The only thing is this place is small and even when we ordered ahead of time we still had to wait 15 minutes when we got there to get the food. Not sure what's up with the service. -
Review from John L.
A friend of mine told me about Chicken Box a long time ago and I got one of the Family Meals for a friend's house warming party. Unfortunately, for some reason I never got a chance to taste the chicken. Everyone at the house warming told me that the chicken was really really good. So this is my chance to check out the chicken myself.
Service - Excellent - The friendly cashier took my order and it was ready in 15 minutes.
Cleanliness - Looks pretty clean
Price - $4.77 (includes tax)
Seafood - Shrimp, scallops, cod
Meats - Chicken, ribs
Vegetables - In cole slaw and potato salad
Dessert - Brownies, watermelon slices, chocolate dipped strawberry
Fruits - chocolate dipped strawberry
Other - Be aware of the road when pulling out of this place--especially, the double yellow lines. The last time I was here, I crossed 2 double yellow lines, it cost $200. Seating is mainly patio, but pretty awesome on a sunny day.
What was ordered:
Lunch Special (4.37) - 2 pieces of chicken (leg and thigh) with 2 sides (potato salad and cole slaw) and a medium soda.
2 pieces of chicken - If anybody is not familiar with broasting, here is a quick low down of broasting. Per Wiki, "Broasting is a method of cooking chicken using a pressure fryer and condiments. The method combines pressure cooking with deep frying chicken that has been marinated and breaded. The result is the chicken is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside and less greasy." The chicken was absolutely delicious. Nice crispy golden crust--with very little grease. The chicken was absolutely tasty, moist, and extremely tender. They give you a choice of leg/thigh or breast/wing ($0.29 extra), but next time I'll get the breast/wing since I felt I need more chicken goodness in my stomach.
Potato salad - potatoes, celery, black olives, dill, and gherkins. Taste-wise, it was perfect. I absolutely hate when (1) too much mayo is used or (2) it is too sweet. This potato salad had the perfect balance of mayo and that hint of sweetness (gherkins).
Coleslaw - cabbage, red cabbage, and carrots. This was very good as well. You get that nice crunch from the cabbage. It was perfectly chilled so it was very refreshing considering it was pretty warm out--and balances out the flavorful of the chicken.
Chicken Box has served La Habra for 37 years. I can see why ... everyone's hooked on the broasted chicken. Trust me, you'll think twice about getting chicken from anywhere else.Listed in: Where to get Fat

Better than KFC and Popeye Chicken. The chains tend to over do the breading and/or salt. Chicken box is how I would imagine fried chicken would be like in the good o' days.
PROS: Chicken and mash potatoes, Monday night special
CONS: None really
NITPICKING: Skip the potato salad. No real seating. Negative signage a little unwelcoming (children should be supervised at all times, if you break it you'll have to pay for it, no cheating on the special)
If you live in the area or visiting and hankering for some fried chicken, you won't be disappointed. -

Every time I drive by this place I say to myself - I need to stop there... well today was the BIG day since Golden Star is closed on Tuesday :(
Its a quaint tiny place- there's not much seating... we got ours to go and ate it in our car. We went for the lunch special. For under $5 you get two pieces of chicken, med. drink, two sides. For my sides - I ordered the fried zucchini (4 pieces) and broasted potatoes (2 big wedges = 1/2 a potato) and I paid .30 more for a chicken breast piece. Next time, I will tell them to keep their wing - I didn't eat it. The broasted chicken is SO good - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. They make the orders as they go - so the food is fresh. It wasn't greasy either. Their hot sauce is very spicy too - Mmmmm!
They also have little pies of pecan and sweet potato. I ordered both. Glad I did because they were warm - they were sitting in this cute little warmer that sits on their counter. I over-heard someone say that the brownies are pretty good too.
I will be coming back - maybe on a Monday - because they have a Monday special for $11.99 - you get 10 pieces of chicken and I think some sides. They offer the deal on other days too for $15.99.
