So I went to my Optometrist for my regularly scheduled dilation only to find out I had a medium sized hole in my right retina. The day before my birthday. Oh crap.
They referred me to these guys, and I was able to make an appointment quickly and easily.
I arrived for my appointment at their office in Lincolnwood, but because I had misplaced my insurance card and none of my doctors were in the office , I could not get the card faxed, so I had to reschedule. My mistake.
Luckily, even though the other office was closer, they were able to give me an appointment a few days later at their Riverside office.
I showed up, checked in, and after I filled out my paperwork they took me back and dilated my eyes. I went back to the waiting room to wait for it to take effect, and had my friend read me Highlights (remember that???!!)
After about 15 minutes I was taken to the room for my consult, Dr. Abdelsalam was super easygoing and friendly, totally putting me at ease for the exam, which of course resulted in a very large Q-tip looking thing poking my eyeball around so he could check things out.
Be warned, after that, you WILL be blind in your eye for about a minute. I'm warning you so you don't go batshit crazy freaking out about being blind in one eye like I did.
Dr. Abdelsalam went over what exactly was happening to my eyes ( I not only have a medium sized hole in the right eye, but a small hole in the left) and discussed the procedures they can do to remedy the situation, and my options. Let me point out, all the time he was engaging, friendly, and comforting. We scheduled my next appointment for a month so he can track the growth of the holes, but he let me know what warning signs to watch out for that might need immediate attention.
Big plus for not pushing a scared girl into opting for major treatment at that moment.
Nobody wants to hear that they may have serious problems with their vision, and nobody wants to hear that they may need eye surgery, but at Chicagoland Retinal Consultants, be sure that you will have a calming, comforting experience in the most anxiety ridden situation.
