So earlier this year I walked from my place over to this shop. Let me take a few steps back. Before I took the walk, I read the reviews here, checked out the website and even contacted the guy who wrote an article about using this place from the Trib. The author I contacted had the mattress for over two months by this time and was still happy with it. That sold me on it.
What they don't have in atmosphere is covered by their selection and price.
I've been sleeping on my mattress for over 6 months now and have not one regret.
is this place even still in business?
our 900 dollar mattress, that we got from chicago discount mattress, SUCKS. it's been a little over a year since i convinced my fiance that we should come here because everyone seemed so happy, and it's literally taken me months to write this review because i hate getting screwed over. but i really think we got screwed over. the mattress is sagging in the middle and we both are just as miserable as we were with the last mattress that was 8 years old.
major sadface.
don't go here. if it's still open, that is.
Oh. Em. Gee.
If you read my previous review of this place, you'd know I got there at 5:45ish on Wednesday and they were closed. Business hours were supposed to be until 8pm.
Went back Thursday. Great---the guy was very apologetic. Didn't have what I was looking for, but he promised me to come back the following day and he'd have the mattress I wanted in stock. He even wrote down a price quote and said he'd honor it. I was thrilled---esp since the mattress felt heavenly---so I couldn't wait for my would-be mattress to ship in the following day.
That day would be today. Annoyed that I'd stayed at work until 5pm on a Friday and it was dark---I ventured over to get my mattress. I was even banking on having it delivered tonight! FAIL.
walked in and the guy (a different guy from yesterday) tells me some random story about their being a mix-up in shipping and they didn't receive any mattress today. Uh----after I've driven over here for 3 consecutive days???? SIGH.
I don't think I will be going back. I'm going to have to suck it up and go to a regular store and get a mattress. At least I'll know what I'm getting into.

Epic Fail.
Having recently moved and desperately needing a new bed, I trekked my happy tail over to… Read more »

You know, you don't really get what you pay for at this place. You get SO MUCH MORE!
(/cheez)
I paid roughly $900, mattress, box spring, taxes and delivery inclusive, and by rights I should now be staring daggers at a no-name mattress of mediocre-to-decent quality, wishing I'd had the cash to get something better.
Instead, I'm lounging in my new queen Simmons Beautyrest World Class firm pillow top, which tends to retail over $2000, and thinking someone is going to have to come over with a crowbar and a blowtorch to get me out of it, because I'm not moving voluntarily. I love it THAT MUCH.
Spectacular savings on luxury mattresses should really be enough to recommend this place but there is plenty more that can be said.
The staff are great. Friendly, helpful, and perfectly low pressure. When I went in the first time, Mike cheerfully pulled down mattress after mattress for me to try, and when I found one I thought I might like, he left me alone to test it out as long as I needed (about 20 minutes, though I knew after about 30 seconds I'd found The One).
They also have layaway. Interest-free. It took me three pay periods to scrounge up the extra $900, but you know what? Waiting six weeks for this bed was smarter than buying on credit with a 22.98% variable APR, losing sleep over my interest rate.
You don't get a warranty at CDM. That sounds like a negative, but really, who has ever used a damned mattress warranty successfully? Do you know of anyone? I don't. Waste of money, I say.
You need a mattress? Check out Chicago Discount Mattress. Unless you like spending an extra grand on frivolities, in which case, by all means go to one of those fancypants mattress stores.
Overall my wife and I were very happy with our experience at Chicago Discount Mattress. We had been thinking about getting a new mattress for a while and I spent some time researching all the different options. We wanted a new mattress, but we didn't want to spend a lot of money.
We ended up getting a $2500 Sealy posturpedic plush top queen bed for $800! The service was no pressure, they happily pulled out several mattresses for us to try and even gave us their honest opinion about a different mattress that was about $500 more. We were curious about it, but they said we would be mainly paying for the name and we should stick with our first choice.
They delivered the bed on the same day and by that night we were sleeping in our new bed. All and all, a very positive experience.
My girlfriend and I had been dealing with a ridiculous futon from IKEA for the past two years. It'd gotten lumpy and was starting to sag wherever it wasn't lumpy. Ignoring this, I was starting to think that waking up sore was just part of getting older.
Uh, I'm 26. We should've just gotten a better mattress (an "adult mattress" as Mesha was told) sooner.
We decided to throw down about $800 for a full-sized mattress because that's what we'd heard they'd cost. Then, as I was biking up Western one day I saw the sign for this place, and figured we may as well look into it.
I'm happy to say that we now sleep on this amazing Euro-style pillowtop mattress by Corsicana that we got for $499 including the boxspring. I don't really know what a "Euro-style pillowtop mattress by Corsicana" means. All I know is that I don't make all the funny cracking noises when I wake up now. It was $75 for delivery, but that was fine since I think hauling the mattress and the boxspring would've crushed our tiny Celica.
We saw the mattress at 8pm on Monday. Will, the owner, obliged us with a late appointment that night. He cleared out a space on the floor, put out a boxspring, and let us try mattress after mattress all while being really friendly (not salesman friendly) and not trying to push or rush us the whole time. We finally decided on one, and he offered to deliver it right then. At 9:00 at night. We opted for getting it the next day so we'd have time to clean up and move things around instead.
All in all, our experience was great. The service was personable and efficient, and the deal we got was huge and unexpected.
Everyone here is well-intentioned, and friendly. It's not the most professional operation, but you can eventually get what you want, you just need to be a little patient.
This place is not so much about getting super cheap nasty mattresses, but a high quality item that you would need to pay much more for elsewhere. If you are looking to spend less than 450-500, I would not bother.
Without knowing what it was at the time of purchase, I got one of the Westin hotel Heavenly beds for 600, while it usually sells for 1250 on the Westin website. Not bad.
Bottom line: Great customer service but mattress selection and prices aren't anything to write home about. Add in a lack of warranty, $75 delivery fee, no refunds/exchanges and it's not any better than a normal mattress store.
Story:
The customer service is amazing (only reason I'm not giving it 1 star). I'm an impatient person and Mike worked with me for over an hour, even past closing, to help me pick out a mattress. Mattresses have to be swapped because there's only room for one to lay flat to try and Mike had no problems going through several to help me find a good one.
Their mattress selection is about the same or a little less than a normal store. They didn't have any of the latex or Simmons beauty rests there and there's 60 days between new shipments. None of their mattresses have warranties because they're all sold as "second hand" (mine had a "second hand" stamp on it) or "as is" from when big stores have clearance or overstock. Mattress warranties are worthless anyways (no one honors them) but buying a mattress with one still offers some peace of mind because you know it's a new product.
The mattress I ended up getting was a Sealy Posturepedic Tristano + box + frame for $675. I later did some research and found out the mattress costs about the same online (and possibly less when the big stores had them on clearance) so it seemed like I wasn't one of the lucky ones who got a fantastic deal... or even a deal at all.
Delivery was good. It was same day and I received my mattress a hour after purchasing but they did not set it up for me. It cost $75 (cash at delivery) but a lot of places offer it for free.
Everyone says to try a mattress for 15 mins before picking one but even if you pick the best one in the store, a lot of times you don't really know how well it feels until after you sleep on it for a night. Since ChicagoDiscountMattress's sales are final upon delivery, if you wake up with back pain after the first night, you cannot return or exchange it, even if it's less than 24 hours later. Many big stores will allow you to return or exchange a mattress up to 30 or even 90 days. I did not know how important being able to return a mattress is until I woke up with back pains after my first night of sleep. Granted, it's not the store's fault but it's just something to consider when you decide where to buy a mattress.
So moral of the story: Customer service was unbeatable and delivery is expensive. The deals and selection aren't that great and there's no return if you end up hating the mattress after a few days. So DO YOUR RESEARCH and be absolutely 200% sure its what you want or else you'll end up disappointed like me and stuck with a second hand mattress that costs about the same as anywhere else.
Great service, great product.
I purchased a queen-sized pillowtop mattress by Sterns & Foster for around $800 (including box spring and delivery). They even kindly thought to bring along a bed frame because I didn't mention having one. They had several mattresses in store for me to try and the bed has more than met my expectations.
I'll have to respectfully disagree with Musem N. I checked them out for two reasons: First, I liked Anna's response to the negative review. Second, I had a bad experience at another mattress store and was looking for something 'different'. I don't know that I would have properly appreciated the service and prices at Chicago Discount Mattress had I not first gone somewhere else. I dealt with three different people - Anna, Dwayne(sp?) and Will. All were very friendly, helpful, and responsive. Unlike other mattress stores, there was no pressure. There was absolutely no pressure. And no frills. The store is so packed full of mattresses that you really can't try one out.
In the end, I paid around $500 for a nice mattress and box spring.
I don't know enough about mattresses to know if I got a good deal. But, I was happy to spend my money at a store where the sales people were friendly, and I felt good about my purchase when I left. I'll recommend this store to anyone who asks.
The owner was very accomodatingof our work schedules and stayed later just for us, was very helpful in pinpointing which mattress would be best for us. Greta prices, and service all around. We've had the mattress for 5 months now and have had no problems!
We bought a Simmons world class "covington" king mattress set from them for $650. They gave me the $25 yelp discount. While I'll admit the staff was a bit 'young', I felt they tried. They weren't the most polished sales people but I felt they gave me a good deal. I'd recommend this store based on prices and the 'attempt' of good customer service. Turns out one of the kids, William, is the son of the owners of the place. His dad delivered the mattress the same day for us. It just seems like it's their first job so I'd give them a break. It was a good experience just not being pressured to buy like the other places.
I'm a bitch as you tell based on my reviews. But I like what I like and I LOVED these dudes at this place. I laughed, I cried, I lived and all at a mattress store. I walked in wanting to spend $300 like the retard who called in. They showed me one for $300 which Will, the pops, said "You know it's fine but when you want to buy an adult mattress you may want to spend a little more to get a better quality mattress that you are going to keep" The nerve of the dude but you know he showed me one for $599. This bitch could see for herself that the mattress was 100 times better. He let me put a few bucks on it until payday. I came in and put a little more like the ol' lawaway days and he let me touch my mattress. I got the baby last night and it is wonderful. I don't care what the other posters said, this place was exactly the place for me. Fabulous (as my homo friends say) mattress and a really good deal. Bottom line, I don't need to be coddled and I like people who are straight up. If a smudge scares you GO PAY $2000 FOR A MATTRESS!
