Seriously? 4.5 stars? SERIOUSLY???
We stopped in here after walking by and smelling it, thinking it would be good, and knowing we were too far from downtown to get Garrett's.
We started eating our popcorn as we walked home and ended up throwing it in a garbage can about a block later it was so repugnant. And for a couple whose combined weight is around 400 lbs - throwing away food is quite the rash move.

If I could give this place ten stars, I would.
I love this place. My friend and I call it "crack corn" because it's so good and so addicting.
I love popcorn. I could eat it every day and never get sick of it. Now, I don't want to call myself a popcorn "expert", but for the sake of this review I will. And as a popcorn expert, I will say that this place is a thousand times better than Garrett's.
They have way more flavors than Garrett's. The White Cheddar is my favorite, and as I type this my mouth is watering just thinking about it. It is also way less greasy then Garrett's.
The people working there are super nice and friendly. They give free samples if you'd like to try a flavor before you purchase it.
Yes, it's pricey but it is worth every dime.
Mmm, Chicago Popcorn Works. I heart you.

Not impressed. I had high hopes for Chicago Popcorn Works before going in, thinking it was going to be a better Garrett's, but unfortunately it wasn't that great.
When it comes to popcorn, I'm a simple kind of gal--I like butter and salt, that's it. So I order the big bag of butter and salt popcorn, hoping to have a lot left for home. Not only was it not that big, it was fairly expensive, more expensive than the movie theater next door for the amount of popcorn, but I could have forgiven that if the popcorn had been at least better than the movie theater. It wasn't--it was pretty bland and actually tasted kind of stale. If you can't even make the simplest popcorn that tasty, what does that say about the rest of your popcorn?
So maybe the different flavorings are what makes this place better...I don't know. I'll give CPW the benefit of the doubt and maybe come back for some caramel corn at some point. But I'm still left with the lingering air of disappointment here. *cries*

I stopped by here on my way home from work because I've heard how great their popcorn is. I'm not really sure how I think. I like how it's way less greasy in comparision with Garrett's, but the air-popping seems to take away from the savory aspect of Chicago Style popcorn.
Their caramel corn was so-so, but their cheese corn is pretty good.
I like that their less expensive and less crowded than Garrett's.....that's a huge plus, and they seem pretty happy with giving samples. I'm a big fan of the Chipoltle cheddar popcorn.

This place is the cheaper, less greasy, northside version of Garrett's. Get the Chicago Mix, soooo good! And I think it's a cruel joke that it's next door to Bally's. Though it being next door to the movie theater and it being both cheaper and better tasting than the movie theater popcorn is a huge plus.

My wife ordered a bag of half standard, half caramel popcorn and the clerk looked at her with the strongest look of disdain I've seen in quite some time. Hire some happier people... it's just popcorn after all.

I'm not really a big popcorn person, never have been. Not until I discovered this little place! It smells like heaven, even from across the street.
My favorite is the Chicago Mix, it's just cheddar popcorn and caramel mixed together. Sounds boring, but believe me...it's far from it. It's amazing, and filled with so much flavor.
The prices are actually decent considering the area it's in. And the idea of it being right next to a movie theater is totally genius. Everytime I go to Century, I buy a little bag and sneak it in my purse. Beats paying $5 for greasy/flavorless/day-old movie popcorn. I'm so happy they have a $12 card minimum, cause I'd be there every day if they didn't.

Dear Chicago Popcorn Works,
Why do you smell so good? Yeah, you. You smell REAL good.
When I am on Clark Street I walk on the other side as to avoid you. However, when I go to Bally's I cannot avoid you. There you are, always. Taunting me. "Eat me! Eat me!"
Look, I just waited in line for a treadmill for 45 minutes, ran for 30, got squashed trying to open my locker by a naked lady who just came in from the pool and NOW you want me to throw away my whole workout just to taste some of your goodness??? Shame!
"Just a little taste," You say. Free tastes? Well, I am not one to pass up "free" anything. Chipotle Cheese? mmm. White Cheddar? Mmmmm. Cheddar Caramel Mix? Oh if you insist. MMMMMMMMMMMM.
OK, give me the tin. That one with the puppies on it. No it's not a gift. Damn you Chicago Popcorn Works, Damn you!

Yum Yum Yum! This is my favorite popcorn place in all of Chicago. Everything is always fresh and you can always sample before you buy! I am actually using their popcorn as a wedding favor. It's that good! Our favorite is the Chicago Mix, made with cheese popcorn (made with REAL cheese) and caramel corn! A very tasty combo! But we will be using the chocolate covered caramel popcorn, for a classy take on popcorn! Eat, Crunch, and be Merry at Chicago Popcorn Works!

I am particularly fond of a place that will give me a small bag of popcorn buttered and salted to my liking for a buck-twenty-five. What more can you ask for?
Once when I was walking home with my freshly popped treasure, a random dude came up to me on the street and asked if he could try my popcorn. I said sure, and he took a few kernels. We went our separate ways, but will always be bonded by our popcorn exchange on Diversey.

The hardest thing about Chicago Popcorn Works is that it's right next door to my Bally's so after a good workout, I smell the wafting smell of freshly popped popcorn and pretty much make up for my workout by going in and buying some popcorn - love the different flavors that they come up with and there's never a wait!
