Went there to have my Heritage Hollow Body set up. The neck needed some adjusting as well some of the frets, the nut, and other setup issues. I know a little about setting up guitars but when it comes to my expensive guitars I would rather leave it to the experts. The prices here are reasonable ($35 for a basic setup), the staff seems very knowledgable, and extremely friendly. What I like about this place is the no nonsense woodshop atmosphere where they focus on one thing...fixing guitars. They do sell pickups, a few guitars, some pedals, and other guitar accessories, but their mainly it is repair shop. They did a great job setting up my guitar and got it done in less than a week. They called me when it was done and I hung out and talked to them about guitars for awhile.
I am picky about guitar luthiers and have been lucky to find some real pros in cities where I have previously lived. I am very happy to have stumbled across this place and I highly recommend their guitar services!
Reasonably priced setup and friendly, honest folks!
My guitar luthier Steve was pretty awesome. I needed a strap button installed and it was done on minutes. Great job too! We talked about this old Silvertone I've got that I need to get fixed and he knew exactly what I was talking about. Real cool people here - I will definitely be back. Cash or check only though, no plastic.
I recently inherited a Tacoma acoustic guitar and have been learning to play down the street at the Old Town School. The guitar was purchased new and played a few times before being given to me as a gift. I've enjoyed learning and playing, but always suspected my guitar was a bit difficult to play, especially for a beginner.
Since I also needed a restring, I decided to take it down to Chicago Fret Works and have them set it up properly. The shop is great. You get the sense immediately that these guys love what they do, and take great care in servicing instruments.
Steve was very helpful, explained exactly what my guitar needed, and really couldn't have been any nicer. Picking it up to play now, it's never sounded better, and it's noticeably easier for me to play. Five Stars!
My guitar tech Steve Baker started his own guitar repair shop along with Dan Wolf. I've known Steve for many years since he was at Guitar Center's Third Coast Guitar Service outlet. Steve and Dan can pretty much fix whatever you throw at them. They do great refinishing ( Dan refinished my tele neck and did a fantastic job!) and set ups. Check out their website under the 'Workbench" tab to see some of the feats they have accomplished. If your guitar, bass, mandolin etc. needs a little tune-up or a major overhaul and repair--don't take your beloved instrument any further than Chicago Fret Works.
I had a broken neck and messed up body repaired here, also had some electronic work done and a few setups. I was really nervous about the neck/body work but they seemed to know what they were talking about and when I got it back it was perfect - you couldn't tell it was messed up. They also have some cool boutique pedals to mess around with and some basics for sale
