Tremendous service! My desktop power supply failed and I needed to transfer all my files to my new laptop. I came in at 3:00p.m. on Saturday and they called me at 5:00 to say that it was done.
There's a good reason that they have a 4 1/2 star average on Yelp! I'll definitely be back if I need any computer service. -

Unless you have a lot of extra time and/or money laying around, I recommend going elsewhere. After paying the diagnostic fee and making multiple visits to Chicago ComputerLand, Aldi finally admitted he could not fix my screen because he didn't know what to order for replacement purposes... because Sony wasn't being helpful, because it was too new of a computer, because [INSERT LIST OF EXCUSES HERE].
At one point, he even went as far to tell me the replacement was ordered - IT.WAS.NOT. He also told me that the replacement and service would cost approximately $600 (note: it ended up costing $250 once I moved on). He also took the computer apart twice (not good for the insides) and one of the screws was never reinserted. I knew none of the excuses made sense, but I'm tech-illiterate so I kept waiting and waiting UNTIL I couldn't use my computer any longer.
Mind you, all it took was ordering a new screen, which should be simple for a computer repair store and it was for the 2nd computer repair store I visited (PRO Computer). Once I knew that Aldi, et al, couldn't do the work, I found another PRO Computer and they fixed it immediately - for less.
Save your own time and money and move right along...Comment from Aldi F. of Chicago ComputerLand 1/7/2012

I Advice to NEVER visit this place. Find some better option around anywhere else. These guys have cheated me on my computer repair.. Got my 90 $ for virus removal when the REAL problem was - my harddisk was dying. WAY to make money. They were very rude and uncooperative. they took my money for NOT fixing my laptop. Not sure if they dont understand English or just pretended to not understand me. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my whole life.
After reading reviews and their website policy of 100 % satisfaction guaranteed, I gave them my laptop for fixing "Freezing issue and Virus removal." After Diogenes, they said it ALL could be fixed by just removing virus. The day I brought my laptop back home - was in the same condition. Virus was removed but my laptop kept on freezing. I took it back (it took 3 weeks cos I live 20 miles away from this place and my car got into accident). After going back to pick it up - they told me my laptops HARDDISK was dying so that's why its freezing. If my harddisk was dying- they should have let me know in the first time, BEFORE FIXING MY VIRUS.
So Here I am. with 90 $ lighter on my pockets and 50 $ of gas for running back and forth and still with UNFIXED LAPTOP.Comment from Aldi F. of Chicago ComputerLand 9/27/2011

My computer was not fully loading Windows (I have Vista, so I actually shouldn't be sad) so I looked around online for reviews for highly recommend computer repair places. This place had great reviews on Yelp, so I thought it would be a safe bet - I was right! Really, a 4.5 star review - you'll see why at the bottom.
I dropped it off on Thursday morning and described my problem and they told me that they would call me in a couple hours with what they found.
A couple hours later they called me and told me my hard drive had bad spots. They didn't say "bad spots"- that's me and my layman's interpretation of the issue. They made sure to detail what they were going to do and how much it would cost. They have to get a verbal "ok" before they will do anything to you computer, which I appreciated.
While they were repairing the hard drive, I bought WIndows 7 to upgrade my computer. I provided them with the key and they updated my operating system.
I was able to pick up the computer the next day and it's working PERFECTLY now.
The ONLY reason I would say they didn't get 5 stars was because they were a little slow responding to me. I had to follow up on Friday morning to see the status of my computer (9:30 AM) and they said it would be 3 hours. About 6 hours later they called me and told me it would be ready at 6 PM. It's not a huge deal because they did a great job and are
probably really busy fixing everyone else's computers!
Note; While they take cc's, they do not take AMEX -

My laptop sucks. I got a good deal on it and I should have known karma would come bite me in the ass.
After going to some craphole place in the West Loop that must have just opened (they stole my $50 and didn't fix my computer), I found ComputerLand and decided to give them a shot based on their good reviews.
Dropped it off on Thursday, got a call on Friday with a description of the problem and my options with prices. Not the cheapest fix but I should have known with my luck that it wouldn't be cheap. It basically needed a whole new hard drive with labor was just under $200.
They called midday on Saturday and it was ready and has been running perfectly ever since. They saved all the docs on my desktop for me and knock on wood, I'll be good for awhile.
Both guys I dealt with there were really nice and totally professional, I'll definitely be back if (let's be honest, WHEN) I need more computer help. -
Review from Jo W.
Wow, don't I feel like an asshole for writing the first non-five star review?
This is really a 3.5 star review, and probably would have easily been a 4 star review if Aldi's repairs worked. But, they didn't. So, here we are.
When my computer started acting crazy, I panicked. My laptop is only two years old, so the idea of throwing down money to buy a new one was not something I was jazzed about.
(Side note: Mercury was in retrograde when my computer went bananas. Coincidence?)
So I hopped over to Yelp to look for a computer repair place, and happened to see Chicago ComputerLand. Since it's not far from my house, on a sunny Saturday morning I backed up my files one last time, wrapped up Big Blue (my laptop), and walked over here.
I tried to be a good customer and I had written down all the crazy things it was doing and all the error messages I was receiving. Aldi said he would call me later that day or the next day to let me know what was going on.
Saturday late afternoon he called me and asked for my windows password, so I at least knew he was looking at it. I anxiously awaited to hear back from him, but did not. Sunday the hours ticked by and I called to get an update, but there wasn't one - he was still running tests.
I should add here that one of the reasons I picked this place was because all of the other reviews mentioned he was able to repair their computers the same day/night. So I admit that my expectations going in were probably way too high, and well, we all know what happens then - disappointment.
Anyhoo, on Monday he called me and gave me the run down of what was wrong and an estimate. I told him to go ahead with the repairs, and he said it would be ready that afternoon.
***Note - spring for the extra $20 for him to back up your files. I almost didn't, knowing I had backed them up myself, but guess what? One of the problems was that my hard drive was corrupted (like owner, like laptop?). So all those files I backed up were useless. Can we talk about the relief I felt when I saw everything was still there?
So, where was I? (God this is a long review.) Oh yeah - Monday afternoon. I left work, and was literally stepping on the train when my phone rings. It's Aldi letting me know my computer wasn't ready yet. While I appreciated the phone call, I was super bummed it was taking way longer than I had expected it to.
I went in Tuesday after work and it was finally ready. He had to do a bunch of things that kind of lost me because I don't speak computer, but all I cared about was that my files were still there. Because seriously, if I had lost some of the pictures on my hard drive someone would have had to commit me. And I don't think Aldi and I are that close.
So it was fixed, and my wallet was only $110 lighter. I got home and had to reinstall some programs, but otherwise it was working perfectly and I was happy. I probably should have written this review then - there would have been more stars, but hey, I'm a busy gal.
But a week later, it started running the disk check again when it started up. This was the beginning of the end the last time. It's been about three weeks and - knock on wood - it seems to be running okay, but I do wish that damn disk check would stop.
Overall, would I recommend this place? Sure, why not. Aldi seemed nice enough, and it seems like my computer taking so long to be repaired was a fluke if you look at the other reviews. But since his repair didn't completely fix the entire problem, I can't really give this review more than three stars. I should probably take it back, but I don't feel like throwing more money into this computer that likely just needs to be replaced, whether I like it or not. -

My network is finally working throughout my house thanks to these guys. My wireless signal was weak to non-existent in our living room. I tried a new router, a range extender, a signal booster, and an access point hooked to power-of-the-internet. None of it worked to my satisfaction. These guys came to my house (on-time) checked out what I had, and had my entire house accessible in under an hour. Great job!

I love this company and Aldi!
My computer was a hot mess, no security, virus' (what's the plural for multiple virus? Uhg, homeschooled), overheating, dropping internet connection....I wasn't sure if I should bother calling someone to fix it or just chucking it and recommitting my soul to Dell. Luckily I chose to call around a bit and found Aldi. For a flat rate the poor man was stuck at my house for about 4-5 hours, backing up my computer and reinstalling stuff, he opened it up and vacuumed out about 5lbs of cat fair from the internal fan (gee, wonder why it was overheating!!!) and made sure my internet was solid and my security settings were all on the up and up.
He's cheap. He's knowledgeable. He's honest. He came to my house!
I would definitely recommend him! -

Excellent customer service! Fast, affordable, and predictable.
My laptop screen went dead all of a sudden. A little bit of internet research allowed me to diagnose the probable cause of the problem: my backlight was out. Hmmmm, I thought, how to replace that? I could order the parts for around $50, wait a week, and then install it myself and hope that I didn't screw things up even worse.
But then I remembered my friends at Yelp, and searched for a local repair shop. Chicago ComputerLand sounded perfect. I took it in, and in just a few hours, I had my computer repaired, for barely more money than I could have fixed it for myself. And no wait for parts, and none of the risk of me destroying it!
Enthusiastic endorsement from me and my computer.......Jake -

I wish I had nerdier friends, friends who fix computers-- and now I kind of do: I have Aldi!
For months, I had ignored the messages that McAfee kept sending me; I had ignored the fact that I had no memory left on my computer; I had ignored it all, hoping it would just fix itself on its own. Sadly, my computer did not fix itself and I had to figure out how to get more memory otherwise I wouldn't be able to install my new McAfee software, and clearly that is just asking for trouble.
I called Aldi on Friday, brought my computer to his house on Saturday (although he does do house calls) and for a very reasonable flat fee, by the afternoon all my problems were fixed! Hooray for Aldi!Listed in: Without you...

My desktop stopped sending a signal to my monitor. The ex-techie in my wanted to fix it myself - but after a month of putting it off I finally broke down and brought it here based on their yelp reviews. The almost perfect score they have is much deserved! I dropped it off right before they closed Wednesday and he called Thursday morning with the diagnosis, and it was ready 3 hours after we talked. They were fast and the price was reasonable. If I have any other PC problems, I will definitely be coming back here!

Seriously, Aldi is an amazing computer genius.
My computer crashed and I had no idea what to do, besides freak out. I looked on yelp and found that Aldi had some of the best reviews, so I called him up. He was able to get my computer in and even told me he could get it back to me later that night. I said the next day would be fine, I'm not super attached to my computer as most people. Anyway...he quoted me at $180, but when it came time to pay it was just $150..nice.
He stayed in constant email contact with me about my data, which he was able to save, and even cut me a deal for being his first costumer at this new store on Halsted.
Overall, my experience was great. I hope I never have to fix my computer again, but if I do I will be taking it to Aldi.
Seriously, he's great. -

I took my laptop in late December, giving them two weeks to fix it before I had to go back to college. I needed the screen fixed and a new battery. They said it wouldn't be a problem to get my computer back to me within my time frame. I mentioned that I thought I still had warranty on it and they told me i absolutely did not. I got my computer back two and a half weeks later than they projected. The screen is fine, but my laptop has been heating up to the point of burning my skin, since I got a new battery. They have not been receptive to fixing it. Turns out I did have warranty time left and could have just sent it to the laptop company, which is my fault, but because of their assurance that the warranty was up I didn't do it.
I was overall extremely disappointed with the service. Took them forever to fix my computer, often didn't call my back, and now my computer is overheating to the point where i'm sure it will soon crash. You can find much better repair places.Comment from Aldi F. of Chicago ComputerLand 4/30/2011

So I've used yelp for a while, but I've never actually written a review. But after I got my computer fixed here, I felt compelled to write a review to just reemphasize how great this store is.
The backstory to my problem was that my computer died on me Sunday night. It was probably the worst timing possible, because I had not backed up some important files that I needed for the week. After calling around and searching several different places, I found this shop. I took in my computer Monday evening and got it back Tuesday evening completely fixed. Not only was the service prompt, but the prices were reasonable, and Aldi was very helpful and understanding.
I would highly, highly recommend this store to anyone, and you will get fantastic service. -

My sister was having a problem with her brand new Dell Computer. She could not get the monitor to come on. When she turned on the computer, the monitor would display a "No Signal" message and then shut down. She had the computer sitting for a long time. When she told me she was having computer problems, I knew just the guy to call. ALDI AT COMPUTERLAND!! He helped me in the past with my computer problems. He came over on a Sunday and had her computer up and running in a very short time. She was so happy to get it up and running, FINALLY!
I cannot recommend Aldi enough, He will be very honest and fair about the problems you might be having with your computer. He will have all my business along with my friends and family's business in the future!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED1 Previous Review: Show all »

So it's the last day of my vacation & my Sony Vaio laptop (never had 1 issue) stops working. I mean it will not turn on even in safe mode. I'm convinced a cleaning person tripped over the wire and knocked it on the ground, but that's kind of irrelevant. Despite having had a laptop harddrive crash before I fail to backup regularly (idiot) and so when I brought in my computer, I stood to lose 3+ years of photos. I pretty much chose Chicago ComputerLand LLC based on location and Yelp reviews. (Easy parking on the street by the way.) Aldi clearly explained the potential costs & told me they wouldn't do anything further until they had my approval. He even let me hook up my hard drive to my external harddrive (yes, I have an external hdd and I still wasn't backing up. sad.) to try to pull a few essential files from it. They quickly discovered it wasn't a virus that the hard drive was damaged, so they then ran it through an analysis which basically told them that it would be 90+ hours to recover the data on my hdd. This is a good thing b/c it means much of the data is recoverable. The cost would be around $340 (this included the data recovery and installation of the new hard drive, not the hard drive itself b/c I provided that, although of course you don't have to.) At this point I could choose to have said, nope, I back up, just toss it and put in a new hdd. But see I don't back up and I really really wanted my pics so I forked over the dough.
Timeframe: I took my computer in on Friday and had it back on the following Thursday and they were able to recover almost everything - a couple of my pics are a little funky, but files get destroyed when your hard drive is damaged. THEN I had some wireless connectivity issues & I imported my Outlook calendar incorrectly. So they told me to bring it back in and they wiped the OS and reinstalled everything - all new drivers, etc. They said their goal was to get my computer back in working order. Wow. In my mind a lot of places would have been like, sorry, not my problem. That is some serious customer service. This is now my go-to place for computer issues (although, yes I'm backing up my data now) and I would recommend them to any friend. -

I found Aldi's ad on Craigslist about 3 months ago , and i decided to give him a call. He was very nice and professional on the phone, and his rates were fantastic. Within 40 minutes of calling him, he arrived at my place and was working on my computer. The price he quoted me to fix my computer was spot on, and not a cent more. My computer has been working great ever since. I HIGHLY recommend Aldi for any computer problems you have. The overall experience was far above my expectations. Thanks Aldi!!

Hats off to Aldi at Chicago Computerland. He is a reliable and honest guy. Our laptop was not charging appropriately, and he replaced the dc jack. Original fixes did not work, but Aldi did not complain about returning to our home several times to repair the problem. At one point, a minor event occurred with our system, and he could have told us that a more expensive part required replacement. Instead, he took full responsibility for the minor mishap and repaired the problem according the original fee schedule.
In short, Aldi knows his stuff and is an honest guy---- something that is unfortunately rare these days. I will definitely trust him with my computer problems in the future! -

quick update on ComputerLand: in my review before, i said that Aldi (owner/operator of ComputerLand) offered installation of Microsoft Office via his installer CD, but there was a slight miscommunication on my part - he knows of a safe, free and equally useful program similar to Microsoft Office that you can just download on the internet, as i said, for free. he does not offer Microsoft Office installation. ok, that's it! i just felt like i should clear that up so i dont mislead anyone. Aldi's still the best computer guy in Chicago though!

I read the couple of reviews on here and decided to give Aldi a call since Computerland is very close to where I live. I am completely useless when it comes to setting up virus protection but usually I can remove viruses pretty easily with whatever system I might have installed... but this time it was BAD. I took it to Aldi late in the evening and he told me that if it wasnt too bad I could actually pick it up that same night if I had time (WOW!) Otherwise I could pick it up the next morning (just as much WOW!). He called me that night and said that it was pretty bad so it would have to wait until the morning, which I had no problem with. When I picked up my computer this morning he said to me "I removed all the viruses and the fan also needed some cleaning so I fixed it for you". I was truly AMAZED that he went the extra mile (AND didn't charge me extra), the fan was too noisy and sometimes would wake me up in the middle of the night, I have taken my computer to the Geek Squad at Best Buy TWICE and they never even attempted to figure out what that noise was, AND THEY HAD MY COMPUTER FOR A WEEK AT A TIME!....TO REMOVE VIRUSES! I really appreciate having Computerland at such a convenient distance from my home and knowing that Aldi is someone I can trust my computer with. I will Definitely recommend COMPUTERLAND to all my friends and acquaintances and if I ever have another problem with my computer I will definitely be calling him back! Thanks!

I was told that my laptop, only 9 months old, could not be repaired when it suddenly stopped turning on after some sort of power surge. I was told that the mother board was fried and that the cost to repair it would be over $300, so I may as well buy a new one. Well, I did because I was on a serious time constraint. But I loved my old laptop and was intent on getting it fixed. After reading the excellent reviews for Chicago Computerland, and getting several quotes from other repair services, I decided to bring it in. Computerland offered a $30 diagnosis fee (which would be applied to the repair cost if we decided to go that route) - other companies quoted anything from 2 - 4 times that amount...just for a diagnosis! By the next day, computerland had told us what the problem was and that they could fix it for $80! The next day (2 days after we brought it in), my laptop is up and running perfectly for the price they quoted. I am so relieved to have all of my files intact and to have my beloved laptop in functioning order again. I will use this company exclusively from now on - it seems hard to find a tech repair company with this much integrity that charges so fairly. In fact, I've got a desktop I need repaired at home right now - you can bet I'll be bringing it to Chicago Computerland.
