The improv is done very well. I've been a couple of times, and got see almost an entirely different line-up each time. I got lots of laughs both times. While the direction is somewhat dictated by the audience, the actors know how to make the most of whatever the material is.
The first time I went there was really good balance with audience involvement, and some great ideas were given for the actors to work with. The second time however there seemed to be a few people hogging up the audience involvement aspect and their ideas were not as good. Never one to turn down any audience member, the actors made the most of the situation and still were great. -

This was an overall good deal - tickets were $15 plus a 2 drink minimum. We came here on a Saturday night and at first, the group took a while to get warmed up, but eventually, the group really took off. Definitely a lot of fun and witty group of improv actors!
They also offer bar food in addition to their drinks (just a tip - the 2 drinks also includes bottled water and fruit juice besides the alcoholic options) so this makes for a fun night out on the cheap. -

HILARIOUS and the actors are extremely talented! Try to go with a group of friends - the more people in the room, the better the show! Highly recommended!

I've seen the show at least 4 times now and every time has been a hilarious, fun and unique experience! The cast is extremely talented, witty, intelligent and great at keeping the audience engaged. It's a fantastic place to bring a group of friends, or a date. Overall, a really great vibe with some of the best improv comedians in the city, or anywhere for that matter. I definitely recommend going to check out this show!

Just went again (last night)...they are still using the same (successful) comedic formula. Your experience here is completely created by both the audience and, of course, the comedians of the night. This visit didn't quite live up to our first visit, but was still worthwhile. I do wish they would serve better quality drinks since they have a two-drink minimum...my virgin strawberry daquiri (which we learned is exactly the same as their virgin margarita) got a "bleck" from me and my two sweet-toothed kids. This is just such a simple way for them to make people happier for having been there...and laying out $35+ per person.

Great improv done by a wonderful cast and crew! The New Years Eve show was brilliantly smart and funny. Not only was it a great deal, but it was also a great atmosphere. The crowd got involved and at the end of the night you could tell everyone had a good time. SEE THEM!!

INCREDIBLE show! The cast was one of the best I have seen performing the difficult art form of improv. These shows are not only hilarious but they are great for all ages and are reasonably priced for a show in NYC! The theater has a great energy and feel to it. Many awesome comedians and talented people in the business have passed through Chicago City Limits' doors, so it's no wonder why this place is so awesome. I would definitely recommend anyone who lives in NY or who is visiting to come and see a GREAT improv show at CCL. I know you'll go home happy and laughing like you never thought you could.

I feel badly about given a theater such a low score but I have to. I went to a show and it was terrible. There were maybe twenty people there and no one was really laughing. The performers were really amateurish. I felt sorry for them because they were so bad. I wanted to like it but it was so awful. I've seen great improv in Chicago and New York. This was really not good at all.

While no longer as strong a show as when such stellar improv performers as Denny Siegal, Carl Kissin, John O'Donnell, and Andrew Daly were in the cast, Chicago City Limits is still the best comedy improv in town. It is a much more satisfying and well-rounded show than shows at UCB, the PIT, and the Magnet. If you like to laugh, don't go to a theater where any amateur can put together a "harold" team," go see pros at Chicago City Limits.
