Your typical burger place, but it's nice cause it's right by the river.
I actually didn't know this restaurant was connected to the Sheraton the first time my friend and I ate here, and who would've expected an average burger joint like this to be attached to such a nice hotel?
The burgers were pretty good, but nothing to write home about. It hits the spot if you're starving after walking around downtown, but there are far better options at comparable prices in the city.
Plus a star for its location. Sitting by the river with your burger and beer is quite relaxing here, and it's far enough away from the hustle of Michigan Ave. to be low traffic and peaceful as well.
I traveled to this joint and was quite impressed. The area was clean, and the service was ON THE ONE. You have seating options here, i chose dine in, cause i don't like to be bothered by bugs and birds.
I wasted little time in placing my order. I ordered a turkey burger with provolone cheese, and crisp Canadian bacon. Hands down, this is the BEST turkey burger i've ever tasted. Thick and juicy, with all the trimmings. I ate slow and took my time with that burger, basically making love to it. Damn!!!!!!!!!!
Chicago Burger Company.......Yay! I'm a fan.
People should not complain too much about the $9 burger prices and $4 side of chili given the location here. Chicago Burger Company is in a high end hotel (Sheraton) and right by Navy Pier and has riverside seating. The location is going to make the food prices a little higher than normal! This should be obvious. This is a decent place to get a burger if you are near it and want some waterside seating with nice views.
I had a burger and chili here. The burger and toppings were tasty. Nothing special, but definitely a decent quality burger. The chili was a small side portion, but just enough to help fill me up and satisfy my chili craving. The chili was spicy, chunky, and meaty...definitely A-OK.
I will be back here to try either their salmon, veggie, or turkey burger options. My only complaint about the place is that they don't have any desserts. They have shakes, but no other options for dessert.
When there are so many awesome restaurants in Chicago, I wonder how I ended up at this one. Actually I know - went there for lunch during work. Blah! Split a veggie burger that come out cold and mushy. The "Jalapeno Onion Rings" have a god-awful taste and after taste, and I was convinced I was going to be sick from them.
The only good thing is the view of the Chicago River. Go for drinks - go eat somewhere else.
The location is nice, right next to the river and close to where I live. The food and drinks are overpriced, but tasty. Burgers don't come with fries, they are separate and once you get fries and a drink for 2 people it comes to about 30 bucks which is a little too expensive for the quality of the food and service. I would eat there again, it was tasty enough but not somewhere I would actively seek out as a regular dining place.
they have blue moon which is good, but its not on tap and they give it to you in a bottle with a plastic cup which is not good.
Some people really need to relax and enjoy a burger once in a while! I say this a lot, but come on people, have realistic expectations! This restaurant is a. in a hotel and b. on the Chicago river. So complaining about price is a bit ridiculous. It's not THAT expensive. I had a burger, fries and a drink and it cost $15. That's a lot for a burger, but it's not a lot for what you get.
The food: I had the turkey burger and my friend had the angus burger. We got them both medium. They were both cooked correctly and tasted great. I got mine with grilled mushrooms and red and poblano peppers. (You get to choose 2 toppings for free.) My burger was fantastic. I would definitely go back and eat the same thing again. The fries and onion rings were good, nothing to write home about.
The service/the setup: I think it is a bit silly that there is no waiter service for a $15+ dollar meal. You order at the counter and they give you a number...similar to a say $6 dollar burger place. Although, they did mess up our order and more than made up for it...for free...so we ended up happy with the service.
This is an attractive place in the summer and living in Streeterville, hard to walk by everyday and never try.
But oh what a disappointment! Their veggie burger patty was too soft and wouldn't hold together! Now I'm not the burger eater who likes overdone patties either, but each time I bit into this one, 5 other pieces would fall apart.
It was also a little too raw - and gave me a stomach ache. AND SO EXPENSIVE!!
Not a fan and don't want it again even though they're right next to my place!
My husband and I stopped by here because the burgers smelled fantastic. I won't make that mistake again. We walked in and were told it was open seating. Okay, not a problem we found the one open table and sat down. After sitting there for 10 minutes I finally decided that it must be a restaurant where you go and order at the counter. I order two burgers with two sides (fries and jalapeno onion sticks) for $30. I was told that they would bring out the food shortly. After waiting 30 minutes for our food I was disappointed to find my burger overcooked (it sucked the moisture out of my mouth) and our sides were cold. As we were waiting and eating we discovered that you don't have to go to the counter and order, apparently you can sometimes actually get a waiter to come to your table.
The restaurant had about 10 wait staff working and mostly they were just tripping over each other. They also all seemed to be having the worst day of their life as most of them looked either homicidal or suicidal. I know that waiting is a hard job, but is it necessary to scowl at all the customers?
DON'T EAT HERE. The food was not that impressive and the service was terrible.
9 for a burger really? $4 for a cup of chili really?
At the Chicago Burger Company all burgers are $9, you can get beef, turkey, veggie, salmon, or tuna. I figured the best bang for my dollar was the tuna. Then you ask yourself, what side you want, fries, onion rings, chili. I didn't realize all of these were different prices... a tiny cup or chili was $4.
The best part about this place is sitting outside next to the river and eating.
To top off this lunch I went back to work and was checking my bank account online. The lunch that cost me $14.49 had a pending charge of $17.39... whats the deal with that! I better not get charged an extra $3 for that lunch...
Long wait to order. Long wait to eat. Burgers were nothing special. Our server mixed up our bill with someone else's and almost lost our parties $200 mastercard giftcard. Not a fan, would not recommend. Only positive is that you can sit on the patio and there is a good view of downtown and the river.
after the most excellent architecture boat tour, we were hungry and this was closest. i wish we ventured further. i got the chicago hot dog to see if i could get a taste of what the deal was about and unfortunately the flavors for this particular dog fell flat. the fries that came with it were good but i was really looking forward to the dog. my wife got a chicken sandwich which she felt was underseasoned. plus all of this was pretty pricey for what we got. oh well...
I was seriously disappointed with this place. My coworkers and I thought that it would be a lovely idea to enjoy lunch on the river. The sitting by the river part was fantastic, however the restaurant was not.
First, there is no seating by a host so you have to stalk the customers eating their meals and fight your fellow future-patrons for a table. When we finally met our waiter he was not all that friendly and the service was very slow.
I ordered a veggie burger which I felt like is a pretty safe bet. I was wrong. The veggie burger was really just squashed black beans and a few kernels of corn mashed into a patty and heated up. The consistency was disgusting and it felt like I was eating mush.
Also, it's pretty pricey for a burger; my meal was about $13. However, they are not relying on repeat business since most of the customers are tourists...so I guess they don't have to worry about unsatisfied customers like me.
OK, first thing first, this is a restaurant on the Chicago river, near the shore, so stop whining about the price. Not sure what price you were expecting, but you will not find 'cheap' food anywhere in the downtown area, let alone on the river or near the shore.
I ordered the Angus burger, medium rare with caramelized onions and mushrooms and it was the best burger I have had in a long time. Cooked to perfection and eaten whilst watching the boats glide up the river
The setup is... you order at the counter like a cafeteria, choose from beef burger, turkey, veggie. Or you can have a chicken sandwich. You get to choose your cheese and two toppings. Lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and pickle come with. If you want fries or onion rings, it's $2.5 extra. Then you take a number and they bring out the burger to you. Order the onion rings, not the fries.
It's a little pricey. And it is just a burger. So what's the deal? What makes them think that they can sell it at that price and make you pay for the sides?
You can sit at one of the river front tables and enjoy your burger in the sun, overlooking the water. That justifies all of it. Plus the Angus beef burger was was 3/4 inch thick cooked.
I checked out this burger place which is located in the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers. It was pretty busy at lunch, and the concept is interesting: pick a burger (beef, turkey, salmon, tuna, or veggie), and add on your choice of toppings from a "burger bar."
Unfortunately, the food just did not deliver. My salmon burger just tasted bad, and the toppings I chose (some kind of a chinese sauce and a mushroom and asparagus mix) lacked flavor and were extremely oily.
For two of us, the total came to $27 for two burgers (not including the extra for $1 for cheese) and an order of onion rings, and no drinks. Considering how mediocre the food was, it just wasn't worth it.
So of course you are going to be raped on price in a hotel dining experience, but for some reason I was expecting different of a fairly cafeterial looking place.
I'd rather go to a Red Robin any day over this place and get bottomless fries included for less than the cost of just a burger here.
Alas, there was no Red Robin, or anything else for that matter, nearby so I had to eat here twice during my conference.
The first time I got a turkey burger and my coworker got a salmon burger, both with a cup or so of guacamole on them. The guacamole was fair enough, but not enough to mask the taste of generic patties that were upwards of $10 each. My coworker had to return his salmon burger because it was too fishy.
The cashier who took our order was rude and short with us, but at least the manager was nice when he brought a replacement veggie burger for my coworker. The service was also insanely slow.
The next day it was suddenly a table service place instead of order at the counter (what. the. fuck?), and our waiter was good. I got cheese fries with wilty bacon on them (I prefer my bacon crisp, especially on fries) and a chocolate shake which was very icy instead of creamy.
Also, it is weird that they serve beer and wine.
The short of the matter is, it isn't worth it, try and find someplace else for a quick meal in the area instead of staying in the hotel. Or suck it up and go to Shula's Steakhouse.
I am a bit different than most I guess since I got a burger ceasar salad instead of a classic burger. I payed $11 for the salad which I have to say was very good. I would go again. Its nice since it is in the hotel and on the water. It was cold today (for me) so staying in the hotel was a benefit, and I did not want to hit one of the significantly overpriced restaurants. If you are staying in the Sheraton and are looking for something quick this is a good pick.
The Chicago Burger Company looks like a theme park restaurant and is accordingly overpriced. It's located on the lower level of the Sheraton, right by the river. Burgers cost $9, plus whatever cheese and toppings you get. A Caesar salad is $9 and the burger salad (similar to the Burrito Bowl at Chipotle) is $11-12. They have veggie burgers, turkey burgers, Angus Beef burgers and a few other types of burgers. They're open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The interior has nice plasma TVs, but I think the McDonald's on Wabash looks nicer. The seating looks uncomfortable, and I don't think they have any booths. You order at the counter, not from your table.
Like I said, it looks like it belongs at Universal Studios or one of the Disney parks. They do have tables outside, so if you don't mind their crazy hotel prices, don't mind the theme park look inside, and want to have a burger by the river (just east of the Columbus bridge), then this would certainly be an option. I presume most of the patrons will be Sheraton guests.
I can't decide between being harsh and being generous, so I'm splitting the difference... These guys charge hugely for what you get, but are so creative with the toppings available for their burgers I have to give them some credit for attempting to please real foodies. The Caesar salad I got was $7.72 including tax, but the lettuce was positively drowning in sauce, so I wasn't able to finish it. On the other hand, my colleague really enjoyed his burger. So. Definitely a mixed bag--and I don't think I'd want to return even if (as today) I were pressed for time.
How strange...my experience was so different. I got chili for $4, and added several different toppings without them charging me anything. They weren't accustomed to adding toppings to the chili, so they made sure it was just like I wanted it. I thought it was a very cheap and pleasant meal with EXCELLENT service. I look forward to trying the burger with one of the strange toppings - fennel and olive salad anyone?
I just had one of the worst meals of my life at this place. They were both incredibly understaffed and shockingly overpriced. $9 for a freakin' burger! Cheese is 50 cents extra? Fries cost another $2.50??? And the food was not good...not at all. In fact, we all left feeling kinda nauseous afterwards. Everything about it sucked.
2.5 Stars if I could...
I ate here the other day and just wasn't sure what to make of it. This place wants to feel upscale based on the decor but descends into fast food land when you approach the counter and order. I'm not as offended by the $10 price tag as some are as I have been to plenty of places that charge the same but you don't get any sides here for that price. The difference is that the other places feel like a $10 burger where this place kind of feels like a Fuddruckers dressed up for the prom. My suggestion (hello management are you listening?) is to ditch the cafeteria fries and go with hand cut freshness. They are so obviously frozen that I did feel insulted payin' $2.50 for those. At the end of the day the burger wasn't bad, it wasn't great. It was just a burger. I do like the toppings they offered but for the expense I would just assume go to one of my neighborhood joints for one of their specials.
