Being a lover of late night food, I have a soft spot for this place when partying on Rush/State & Division. Usually a long, obnoxious line full of drunkards, but once you take a bite into that big, floppy slice of pizza, it is well worth it. They have other options for your munching pleasure if you don't want pizza.
If you are partying in the area, this should be a serious option for you
Eh. This was the ultimate example of "average". Not bad, but far from great. If you're a fan of the dough for pizza, this place does have pretty good dough. Our friend got the house salad and said it was tasty with good size portions. The cheese sticks tasted like they were microwaved though.
The delivery time was also unacceptably long, but to be fair I think the go through a 3rd party delivery service. There are too many good places in Chicago, so I doubt I'd order from them again. I was just looking to try something new.
There's a time in life when you like this pizza.. it's usually when your effing inebriated and you've lost sense of taste. Those times when you can't walk or move anywhere else and because of how close you are, you opt for an expensive greasy slice. I have never ordered a full pizza or any other food item. Tourists may like it or find its location awesome during late drinking nights. Chicagoans know better.
It's plain Jane pizza and cannot be recognized with the awesome of Chicago pizzas.
Is it good for groups ? Heck no. But during those heavily populated drinking nights at Rush and Division, the wait in line can be related to waiting to get into the only nightclub in town. I never have nor will eat their pizza sober.
Best NYC-style pizza I've ever had, and I've had pizza in a dozen places in NYC itself. Yes, it's better when you've been drinking all night, but what pizza isn't?
I have never been to this place on a drunken late night, which from the other reviews i have read is the time to go. I stopped in the other day and I have to say the pizza was at best average. The $4+ for a slice at 4:30pm was absolutely outrageous and will prevent me from ever going again. What a rip!!!
So unless you are wasted and craving a slice, i suggest passing on this crappy little hole in the wall.
$4.55 for a slice of pizza?
Do I look that f--kin' drunk to you?
(okay, maybe a teeny weeny bit but that is beside the point)
The pizza looks like the crap my desperate for some munchies ass would have settled for back in college. Not anymore. Shame on Chi-Town Pizza for preying on the 2am bar crowds and their vulnerable appetites AND wallets.
I remembered this being awesome, but after stopping in there Friday to grab a slice BEFORE I started drinking, I now think notsomuch. It took forever for them to heat up the slice, and as others have pointed out, it was indeed overpriced. I suppose it would do in a pinch as after-drinking food, but I wouldn't bother otherwise.
Also known to my friends as "Drunken Pizza Place" this is the place to go when you're in the Triangle, wasted, and just want something to eat before hopping into the cab.
Their pizza is pretty good even when you're sober but the alcohol makes it even better.
I can't give this place a bad review. Chi-town Pizza is a must before heading back home after a night of drinking. IT HITS THE SPOT!
The line for food in the wee hours of the morning cracks me up.
My only complaint is they don't have too many meat-free pizza options.
That's okay, Chi-Town pizza...I forgive you, since you've helped prevent a few hang-overs for me since I moved to the Gold Coast neighborhood.
The first night I ate here merits 5 stars, the second night would be 3.
Our first night in Chicago, we ask the cab driver at 1am to just take us somewhere that "serves food." He drops us off at a dingy place that smells delicious, but upon stepping inside, we realize is all meat - hot dogs, burgers, beef sandwiches...the walls were probably made of meat. Being non meat eaters, we needed something else...so we ran across the street to Chi-Town Pizza.
We ordered a medium pizza, and left with it 15 minutes later. It smelled so good, it hurt inside to wait until we got back to the hotel to eat it, but there was no seating inside of CTP...it took everything I had not to devour it inside the cab.
Finally, we got to eat, and OMG, this was good pizza - flavorful sauce, thick stretchy cheese, hot, perfect. I debated relocating to Chicago.
So night two, 1am - we order it in after a night out, and are told that it will arrive in 35 - 45 minutes. We were hungry, but this was bearable, and...it would be worth it.
An hour and 10 minutes later (and 3 panicky phone calls by me), our pizza finally comes, barely warm...and needless to say, not quite as good or fresh as the night before.
So...I recommend this place, but order your pizza IN PERSON!!!
I have had it drunk many times, and sober many times. Its always amazing when I'm drunk and it's usually amazing when I'm sober.
Try to avoid any drunken puking bar hoppers when going here late nights to satisfy the drunchies, and be warned that nothing here is cheap, even if you want to order a whole pizza.
All that being said, its pretty good new york style thin pizza, which isn't always easy to find in Chi town. And, while the place seems pretty dingy inside and out, the pizza never fails to satisfy my ever present craving for pizza.
Even though it's New York style.... I'll admit that it's good :) My girlfriend is a vegetarian and they'll even make her a pizza without cheese on it.
As for me.. I get the pepperoni and its damn good. The slices are perfect for folding.. When I'm drunk and am craving some greasy food I always head here or across the street to five faces.
I had a piece last night and it was good! Mmm..
This place must only be good when your so drunk cardboard pizza tastes good. The pizza at this place is pre-made and frozen. The calzones are OK but just that. OK. Wanna see celebrity photos hanging on the wall with the owner. Go here. otherwise avoid it unless you have killed all of your taste buds with vodka!
I came here under the influence of Elima- date- chicago. I saw an episode where the last 2 guys this girl was interested in got into a drunken fight at this place and since we were in the neighborhood, I had to just try a slice of reality tv history.
While in the long line, which moved really fast actually, I let these 2 boys who just got out of a stretch limo scissor cut me, they were funny! and I had begun to convince them to pay for my slices, but a las they were cheap college students.
I had a veggie slice and it was just okay. I mean, I was drunksy but i could still taste. Maybe the meat varieties were better?
I am eating one right now as I type. I was in the mood for a simple thin-crust, so I ordered one with pineapple. This stuff hits the spot. It has good crunchy-chewy ratio Moreover, I'm stone sober. Imagine how much better this is after a few potent potables. Maybe it could use a little more tomato sauce but otherwise it's good stuff.
Speaking of sauce, here's a small hint for you sauce whores out there: The crust is good with Barilla roasted garlic pasta sauce. Yum! Okay, back to eating.
I don't get the obsession with this place other than its open until like 6 am. But, seriously, a slice of pizza is almost $5.00 and it's just okay. I would never really want it sober.
Another gripe I have is they have an entire menu, but it's almost weird if you order anything off of it. I think one time we tried to get breadsticks and everyone was so mad about it! God forbid you have to go make something you don't have "already" ready and can just pick up a piece and make a fortune. I don't know. I guess I get the "get the line moving" thing but then don't post your entire menu!
I mean the pizza is okay. And quick. And does the trick after drinking. But, the fact that this place has 4.5 stars on average confuses me.
Something else random - they BLAST rap music during the day. Haha. It's so random. Doesn't affect my review but I just think it's funny.
Gotta love this place for quick, late night drunk binge eating. The pizza comes in large thin slices and tastes soooo good post-alcohol consumption for some odd reason. I also recommend their stromboli's, we even stop in for these when were sober!
They advertise that they deliver, and upon attempting this late one saturday night, we realized it was a bit of a joke. An hour and a half later we decided to just walk there and pick it up ourselves. But carrying a ridiculously oversized box of pizza down division street is like a homeless person magnet. And after fighting the majority of them off, you come home 1-2 slices less, and realize that pizza was quite expensive and your still hungry. Just stick with eating a slice or two while there.
5 stars for the delicious, much-needed heee-yooooooge slice NYC-style of pizza one can get in-between closing time at the regular bars & closing time at the late-night bars. Add a little Parmesan from the no-nonsense Styrofoam soda cups, fold it up sideways, dip it in their garlicky ranch dressing, & wash it down with a cool soft drink & you're set!
-1 star for the incredibly amount of d-baggery & pathetic pick-up lines you'll have to endure while waiting in line for your slice.
Simply put, this is the best New York style, Chicago pizza available (yes I made that up).
I always eat pepperoni when I order pizza, but I would recommend trying their different kinds of pizza that they have in their display.
Always good, but late night is the best!
Prices are a little spendy for a slice of pizza.
Okay so my first encounter with this hole in the wall of a pizza joint was at 3am. Not the usual hour for dinner or even a midnight snack. But, I was starving and stumbling and luckily stumbled through the doorway into 3am nirvana: Chi-town Pizza!
Now, I've been back many times since and this is the best NY style pizza in Chicago. The pizza is consistently yummy to my tummy, and they deliver!
Amazing pizza, and really close to my house-what more could I want?!
It's open til four, making it convenient when you're leaving a bar on Division or the general area before you go home and while you'll face a line, it moves quickly and is worth the five minutes inside.
They only take credit card if your order is 8 or maybe 10 dollars so if you're just getting a slice and soda, then make sure you have cash!
DA BOMB. You won't find deep dish here, but you will get a damn good slice of pizza! If you are in the Rush/Division Street area, you must stop by after bar hopping! This place is open late and soo amazing!!
Great place to have a fantastic late night snack! Slices are huge and very fresh, but be careful not to burn your mouth if you get the jalapeño poppers! (yes, it has happened to me). No tables inside but try to eat it fast because they don't taste quite as good when reheated.
I like this place because it reminds me of the kind of place I used to grab a slice in NY. The pizza is good. Probably the best NY style pizza I've found in Chicago so far. I'd rate it higher except it's too expensive for what it is.
Who doesn't love a late night pizza slice?! This is the place for it, conveniently located in the heart of "party central." But, best of all, you can order it to be delivered and it doesn't have to be because you need a pick-me-up after having a few. I love this pizza because it tastes very close to real New York/East Coast pizza and that's the only kind of pizza I will eat. Yup, I'm an expat.
I often times wonder what the people of chi town pizza think of me since I am usually only a customer after bar time... This place is soooooo good, I have NEVER been disappointed by the pizza. Maybe it's because I am so hungry, but honestly, totally worth going there late night!
I must say I HATE Division and state. It just smells like beer and vomit.
I do however like thin crust pizza/New York style pizza. Had a chi-town pizza for the first time a couple weeks ago and it was great. Not as big and thin as NY style, but good. Tried it again this last week and the crust was a bit to thick for my liking. Will definetly try again. Also like Edwardos, but their thin crust is sicilian style (squares) which I am not a fan of.
I don't normally eat cheese, but when I do, it's because I've been drinking. And when I've been drinking, I really want nothing more in life than some cheeeeese pizza. And I will stop at nothing to get it. Which is why I will stand in this stupid long line and pay more than I should for greasy, just ok pizza. And I don't really mind that the line is so ridonkulously long, because drunk people are funny to watch. And although it's overpriced and not that great, it's the best pizza around at 3 a.m. on my way back home on Saturday night. Nom nom nom nom nom.
As the other reviews state - late night on the way home and needing something. Yes it is open until 4am. Just as the other bars on the street are closing. This place will have a nice line. It moves quick. Take those two into account you can have faith that the pizza hasn't been sitting around and it will not contribute to a rough morning. I went with the calzone. It took a little longer and yes it's premade. They finish cooking it when you order and comes with a side of marinara. I went this route because we were walking back a few blocks to our hotel. I figured i won't drop my other slice of 'za. You know you can't order just one slice. Rush st is just so much fun and this is a good way to finish it. No i will not compare it to the bacon wrapped hot dog cart. Only because I haven't had that experience.
I think that this is the most delicious pizza in Chicago. Every time I'm on Division I have to make a stop for a slice.
Best New York style pizza. I have always ordered a whole pizza and never by the slice. Amazing pizza.
It is 4am. You have been drinking all night and are STARVED, but are way too drunk to hit up IHOP or The Nugget. What shall you do?
Stop by Chi-Town for pizza that is ready to grab and go, of course!
The pizza is pretty good, pretty greasy, and the perfect food if you have been drinking massive amounts of liquor. It does a nice job soaking up some of the booze and keeping you slightly less hungover the next day.
If you are choosing this place stone cold sober I may question your judgment. The pizza is very pricey and not worth the 20 something bucks it is going to cost you for a whole pie. And non drunk business seems to confuse them somehow. And while that is funny when you are fubared, not great if you are sober and trying to get a real meal.
If you do find yourself in here in a drunken haze I warn you- DO NOT try the gringo killer. You WILL make yourself sick. It is meant to screw with all the ridiculous drunks that frequent Division Street and not meant for any kind of normal person consumption. You will pay for it today and tomorrow. Just don't do it.
But do get your wasted friend who doesn't read yelp to do it. That would be hilarious!
This is the place to go when you're drunk late night and craving some pizza! It's close to all the div. street bars and pizza was pretty cheap (if I remember correctly...) The pizza was SO GOOD, and they had plenty available for the crowd of starving drunkies.
So good!! It's great for late night eats. It tastes like a NY pizza, wow!! It's not too greasy and it's a great price.
Great place for pizza at 4am when you're hammered. It's pricey, but as far as I'm concerned, nothing hits the spot better. As an addendum to Jessica's review, I believe that they actually stopped selling the Gringo Killer due to too many complaints from wannabe tough drunks........myself being one of them.
