I am fully aware that I should not review a place that I have yet to dine in, but I am sooo disappointed that due to my hayfever-kamikaze-allergy attack I had to give up my 7pm reservation! UGH! I am sure that by giving up this reservation, I am making someone else's jones' for table for two at Chez Shanksy's come to fruition. I tried to rebook, but this goldmine is jammed up until late June!!!
If i do actually get to dine here in the future, I promise a fully thorough review! In the meantime it's back to mopping up my runny nose and wiping my culinary tears away...

I swear, I feel like I go to this place almost every day! I can't explain it, it just feels like home to me.
Like Rebecca H says, it's beyond difficult to get into, and has done a great job flying under the radar of all the foodie bloggers who would probably turn it into another Momofuku Ko or Artichoke if they knew about it. No matter who you are, you have to know someone, and boy, do I know someone.
Once you're in, though, you're in for a treat! The space is beautiful--super cozy with exposed brick, a working fireplace and a nice open kitchen so you can witness first-hand as the chef works her magic. There's no menu, but somehow every time I eat here I get exactly what I wanted! It's like they can read my mind. Plus, the food is fantastic--fresh fish, vegetables and pasta prepared simply and elegantly without too much fuss. Yum!
And, if you're lucky enough to get in for cocktails, look out! The bartender is on par with some of the best in the city, and knows a million old-timey cocktail recipes--every variation on the Manhattan you could think of, plus Aviations, Mint Juleps, Old Fashioneds...the list just doesn't end. To boot, this is the only place besides Milk & Honey that I've had my favorite drink ever, the Archangel. Mmm...cucumber...
Finally, during the summer months the roof deck is open, allowing you to have your delicious meal or cocktail while you take in one of the most spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan I've ever seen. Now that it's finally getting warm, I plan to spend as much time on that roof deck as possible. I'm sure the proprietor won't mind--I basically live here already!

This place is extremely exclusive, very hard to get in to, but boy is it worth it!
After a brief Court appearance this morning at Brooklyn Supreme, I hopped on over to this joint for some girl talk and tasty treats. The chef here is amazing, truly top notch.
I was welcomed very warmly and led to the 4th floor of what "looks" like an apartment building. The space was huge, very inviting, and the other two diners, Aretha and Finnius (sp?) appeared to really be enjoying themselves.
The host was very pleasant, seemed to know a lot about me and was a great listener. She poured me delicious coffee from a french press, I'm not sure what the roast was, but it was nice and strong.
She then proceeded to create the most delectable fresh vegetable frittata. It seemed effortless! We continued to discuss our day, friends, Yelp, etc. Then the frittata was ready to be tasted.
There is not a lot of seating here, but since I came by myself it was just right. The frittata was delicious, nice and light. The vegetables were still crunchy, it was not overly eggy, and it was seasoned perfectly. Also, there was great oven toasted crunchy bread with butter, what more could a girl ask for!??!?! [We discussed bacon, but decided I would order than next time]
Service was wonderful, she gave me seconds without me even having to ask. My coffee was refilled at the perfect moment. This really was a wonderful experience.
The ambience is wonderful, lots of sunlight and there is even a roof deck for summer dining al fresco. A great place to go on a beautiful day.
Good luck getting in, it's locked up tighter than Fort Knox; and the door man is worse than Studio 54!
