Seems like everything has been covered here at this boutique hotel (mostly the negatives), so let's start with the positives. Location, location, location... I nearly booked something high up on Miami Beach, but you can't get much more prime than 8th and Collins... literally 2 blocks from the beach. At $130 a night, you can't expect a whole lot and at least they gave us 2 double beds, and we had a new 37" Samsung LCD screen, but literally between the beds and bar, we had no room. The shower was cramped, and the shower had no bathtub, which wasn't so bad since the shower head was attached to the ceiling and the floor had a drainage (not as awkward and you'd think).

We didn't get to check out the free shuttles, but that would have been a nice touch. The small hotel bar that flowed into the lobby also offered an open bar from 7-8PM (only Smirnoff, Beefeater and Barcardi). The Chesterfield also had a kiosk to print boarding passes, which I've never seen before. The front desk also provided beach towels... so all in all I can't complain too much, but compared to our friends who stayed at Hotel Clinton a block away, our room was half the size.

I really hated my stay here. The staff were disorganized and not friendly. The room they gave me was dirty and the smoke alarm kept going off. They eventually switched me to the Lily Leon hotel next door where the A/C didn't work and I was eaten alive by mosquitoes. There was a giant wire sticking out of the wall where the TV had once been mounted, and now was instead precariously balanced on the luggage rack. I felt totally uncomfortable here the entire time.

This is a definite party hotel, which I don't have a problem with, but I think that the only people who would enjoy a stay here are wasted teens or college students who don't care about how the room looks. They're clearly not in it at 3am anyway, when they were outside my door screaming and barfing.

Plus one star for the shuttle to the airport, which is handy, but I'm just way too old to stay at a hotel like this. I need clean sheets, better housekeeping, friendlier staff and less mosquitoes. (the hotel's probably not responsible for that one, but oh Miami. Why so humid and icky?)

Upon first appearance the Chesterfield, despite its aging inside the lobby and the hotel walls, has gorgeous, trendy rooms that can compete against some of the more expensive hotels in the area. Free shuttle service to and from MIA. A complimentary clock, radio/CD player, bathrobe, safe, iron, ironing board and minibar in each room.  There is also a recently opened spa (that is separately reviewed on Yelp) on the ground floor--where the ice machine used to be, I think.

This is where the comparison ends, however.

The buses that take you to and from the hotel are run down.  Sometimes you may never see a bus at all but rather a while minivan that has sheets of paper tacked on to its side for this hotel as well as its sister hotels, part of the South Beach Group.

Once you get in the hotel, you'll find that the TVs are woefully out of date (IMO)--they're still those large, chunky TVs from the days of yore hung in the corner of your room as if you were a hospital patient.  The "minibar" takes up a shelf in your room.  A mini-fridge, also part of the minibar, is so full you can't use it if you want to bring back leftovers from a local restaurant.  Bathrooms do not separate the toilet space from the shower space.  And, as least while I was there, I had small roaches crawl throughout my hotel room and my bathroom.  I should've asked for another available room and moved, but no.  I had to stay in the roach-infested room like a moron.  Room views suck as they open out to the neighboring buildings rather than Collins Avenue.  Finally, internet service is pay-per-hour/day/week here instead of free like in some hotels.

Avoid this hotel and go to The Hotel down the street instead.  It's not as cheap as the Chesterfield, but it has a better location (Eighth Street and Collins near the SoBe branches of Banana Republic, Armani Exchange and Kenneth Cole; also, short walking distance to other chain stores), better rooms and better on-site facilities than the Chesterfield.

NB: Since I stayed in the Chesterfield, the South Beach Group has updated the look of their buses to reflect the advertising of the Catalina Hotel and Beach Club (also reviewed separately on Yelp).  That doesn't mean that my warning of Caveat emptor changes for this hotel, however.

BEWARE!!!!   The staff STEALS.  I had money stolen from a Manager from the SAFE of all places.  When I told them they said I had no proof.  I was the only one with the combination and the one that was in my room was the manager.  DONT STAY AT THIS CHAIN HOTELS.  THEY ARE ALL RUN BY THE SAME PEOPLE.
