Fountain Valley, CA
We have stayed in the Eberle room at The Cheshire Cat Inn twice before and loved it. This time, we brought our kids and stayed at the 2 bedroom Prestbury Cottage with a fireplace and jacuzzi. Upon arrival, there was a complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates. When we tried to heat up the jacuzzi and found that it wasn't heating, the owner came over himself, gave us access to a slightly smaller jacuzzi at a nearby cottage and knocked $60 off our bill. Everyone was very kind and the continental breakfast was great. The cottage was cozy and it was perfect for a quick getaway! This place is fantastic!

They are a friendly bunch-both the innkeepers and inn dwellers /guests.
We were 'checked in' at the dining table and our room was 'next door.' They have two Victorian homes that serve their bed and breakfast inn. Lovely is the word for the great upkeep of the gardens and the winsome decor.
The innkeepers make honest and sincere attempts to make your experience a pleasant one. They get 5 stars!
However, it is expensive, and the breakfast was disappointing.
If you are a couple and enjoy bed and breakfasts as a whole, then I think you'd really like this place.
If you don't mind shelling out big bucks for quaint and cutesy, and the Alice in Wonderland theme doesn't make you violently ill, then you might consider this place.
I realized that I'm not a "B and B" -er type of person, but kudos to you if you are. -

If you're looking for Euro-sterile lodgings, or a cheap stay you'll want to look elsewhere. But for a lovely get-away weekend, or a stop through while wine tasting, it is truly wonderful.
We stayed in the Tweedledum suite: BIG shower, jacuzzi tub in bedroom, kitchen and parlor area; all nicely appointed and spotless. We didn't use the outdoor hot-tub, and the continental breakfast (which after all IS just pastries and coffee) wasn't what we needed before a grueling day of wine tasting, but we slept well, were treated well from start to finish, and definitely would come back when we run out of wine, next week by the looks of it. Oh, yeah, free Wi-Fi was just the cat's meow! -

After our hustle bustle of a wedding in Disneyland, this quaint getaway was perfect. When my new bride and I arrived late at night and quietly followed the instructions given to us on getting in after hours through the side, we were greeted by an older couple enjoying a sweet cuddle with wine glasses in hand on the couch. They playfully welcomed us home and jested of being our parents for the weekend. We laughed as we past them in the living room and into the main foyer where the computer and wifi routers reside at the foot of the stairs. From the moment we entered subtle wonderland, our eyes enjoyed the many touches of the Cheshire cat, Alice and even keyholes to peep through.
The room was spacious and the mounted flat screen with a built in DVD player was adequate for the late night runs to the RedBox in Ralph's. The balcony accommodated my smoking habit and had a decent view of the dirty spa. Not sure why the spa wasn't clean, but I wasn't partaking for the weekend anyway.
Breakfast in the morning was amazing. Coffee, juices, cream filled french toast with the most amazing syrup and nuts. The cheese wine and crackers in the evening were also pleasing.
Here's a little something I think you Yelpers would enjoy. The drawers under the TV contained journals filled with pages of guests that have stayed in the room for the past 2 or more decades. With the journals, a copy of Alice in Wonderland.
I've been married for 4 months now, and I'll never forget this weekend.
Thanks Cheshire Cat Inn!! -

Mountain View, CA
A group of us stayed at the Cheshire Cat Inn this past weekend. We stayed at the Woodford (2 bed / 1 bath).
Pros
- The decor was very cute. The cottage has a country rustic feeling to it but with modern appliances such as a kitchen with stove and microwave, and a flat screen tv.
- The living room has a fireplace!
- They have free wifi but the signal was faint and speeds were a bit slow.
Cons
- The driveway where we parked our car was very very narrow and is shared between two cottages so it's very hard to park your car.
- This place is very expensive. We stayed here for two nights on the weekend in a two bed one bath and ended up paying about $920 total.
- They provide a "continental" breakfast here but it doesn't consist of any eggs, or bread. Instead, they serve a fruit medley topped with some yogurt and cinnamon and a cream cheese stuffed french toast which was quite unexpected.
- There's no hair dryer provided (you have to request one).
Overall, this place is very nice but doesn't seem worth it for the price.Comment from Christine D. of Cheshire Cat Inn 7/18/2011

I truly cannot say enough great things about this B&B. My husband and I were visiting friends in LA and decided to take a couples retreat trip up to Santa Barbara for the weekend. Knowing absolutely NOTHING about the area and relying completely on internet research, I found this gem! Honestly, it can be so hard trying to weed out truly great places on the world wide web but, man, did we luck out!
We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom suites and could not have asked for more. The innkeepers could not have been more accommodating (putting up with my dwindling cell reception and late check in time), the grounds are unbelievably gorgeous and the walk to State St. (the main drag in S.B.) was more than reasonable.
If you are looking for a romantic, relaxing location - look no further. The two bedroom suite was the perfect amount of space for two couples and the private hot tub on the back porch put our experience over the top. If it's not apparent already, i highly recommend this spot to anyone traveling through the area. Not only was our experience wonderful but the price was perfect...even cheaper then two separate rooms at comparable locations. If you're going to S.B. anytime soon - RUN don't walk to the Cheshire Inn! -

This place is fantastic! I will definitely be coming back on my next visit to Santa Barbara. We stayed at the Cheshire Cat Inn on the last night of our vacation. The inn was nice enough to give us a call with our check-in information as we were checking in pretty late at night. They left us a map of where our room was located and had cookies waiting for all guests as they entered. A very nice touch I might add.
The inn is well maintained and has a "Alice in Wonderland" theme running through it. The grounds are well maintained and the dwelling is very clean. We stayed in the Mad Hatter room on the second floor (no elevator that I could see). The room had a kind size bed, fresh linens and everything was clean. We were very comfortable with our room.
Connie greeted us in the morning by the inn's lobby where a continental breakfast was offered. There were plenty of guests chatting and enjoying a nice meal.
We will be coming back and bringing friends on our next visit to SB. -

I love this place! Every year my husband and I spend a weekend there for our anniversary. We want to up it to twice a year but with three children it's a little difficult.
We've stayed in the Mobberly and the Woodford but my favorite is the Mobberly. The location is fantastic and the staff is so nice. -

Great stay! Nice room (we stayed in Dormouse so that we could have a fireplace and no TV).
Staff was super helpful and recommended a butterfly grove in Goleta that we rode our bikes to and was amazing.
They also recommended great places to eat and walk around in town. -

This place was great. My husband and I stayed here twice, once about two and a half years ago when we first started dating and again a year later.
It was a wonderful experience, a cute quaint little cottage like bed and breakfast. The first time we stayed in the main house and the second time we stayed in what was referred to as the queen of hearts room. That was a fun themed room, complete with a jacuzzi tub. I also loved the wine and cheese hour around 4 in the afternoon
I may be a little bias to this B&B because I got engaged during this trip. The one thing that kind of disappointment me was the fact that the hot tub wasn't very hot, maybe luke warm at best.
It really is a nice place, close to State Street and all the shops and restaurants. -

We had an amazing time at this cute place. You feel instantly at home with comfortable couches and your own kitchen. We stayed two different times for one night. The first trip we had our own 2 bedroom cottage with a hot tub on the back patio. We had breakfast delivered to our room, and let me tell you....the best scones I have ever had as well as baked pear and a quiche. The second trip, we stayed over the parking in this one bedroom "honeymoon" suite. They gave us complimentary chocolates as well as a small bottle of wine. We had a jacuzzi in our room. Breakfast was once again delivered to our room. Stuffed french toast and strawberries with a cream sauce. Did I mention breakfast is included in the price? They also have wine and appetizers in the afternoon. The owners were amazingly nice and accommodating. Not a bad thing to say about the place.

Ok, I felt guilty about writing my less-than-wonderful review last week. But we just got back from my sister's wedding in Big Bear, where we stayed at my SECOND ever bed and breakfast - and now that I know what one is SUPPOSED to be like, I don't feel bad AT ALL. The Cheshire Cat (once again) cost even more than the place we stayed at this weekend, but this place blew the Cat away in all regards (food! service! decor! comfort! etc, etc, etc). Sorry Cheshire Cat. You were nice people and all, but honestly - to put it in Yelp's words - "Meh. I've experienced better." By a long shot.

My wife and I just spent our anniversary weekend here and it was very nice. We stayed in the Tweedledee room, a large newer room over the garage (not as bad as it sounds - it is one of the few with A/C). The Victorian mansion where the main "lobby" is located is amazing. They have a lovely wine & cheese at 5:00 PM for guests.
The inn is a short walk from the downtown section of State Street but if you can get a parking spot in the lot, take it. It's easier to walk then to deal with parking (and paying) on the local streets. Breakfast was great on Saturday (french toast) and poor on Sunday (egg dish). If we come back to Santa Barbara we would definitely stay here again. -

South Gate, CA
I am impressed with the quality of this quaint, cozy, BB. Came here for my bf and my first year anniversary. I forget the name of the room we had, but it did have a fireplace in it. The room was small, but cozy, and the bed was comfy.
Although this place can be pricey it is redeemed with the quality of the weekend breakfasts and the wine and appetizer hour. All the food for the hour was homemade and delicious. The wine came from local wineries and once one bottle was emptied, another was opened up. They do not skimp here.
The grounds are beautifully maintained, and there is a hot tub outside. Remember to bring your suit for the hot tub. I was disappointed because I was not aware of the hot tub; it was not mentioned on the website. It might be now because I came here in 2006. Terry cloth robes are provided for all the rooms and they were luxuriously soft.
Parking is available on the premises. The lot is located behind the house with access to the garden. The website also failed to mention that there was parking available, so we spent ten minutes looking for parking when we first arrived.
The BB is 21 and over, and I don't believe children are allowed in the living room area. The living room is filled with Alice decorations, pictures, and books. If you are an Alice in Wonderland fan (like me) then you will be in heaven here. If neither of you are there for the theme, then it might sicken you.
I do plan on returning.Listed in: Santa Barbara

Talk about the most charming bed and breakfast ever!
Bed and Breakfasts are great for charm and a quaint bedroom, but this one goes above and beyond. The building is a 1920s farmhouse type of structure -- beautifully restored with a great original layout. The grounds are extremely well kept and lush. It is also located just off of State Street, which is the main stomping grounds of Santa Barbara.
Additionally, if you stay in the Mock Turtle (the name of our room) you will find several journals in the top drawer of the dresser. It is filled with notes and messages from other people who have stayed in the room. It is a wonderful touch!
Finally, the customer service is so great that it doesn't feel like customer service at all. The people are real and extremely helpful.
Oh, and stay for their breakfast. Um, um, good.
Go to SB! -

Okay, so this place is insanely romantic. My girlfriend and I stayed in The Duchess room. It was a lovely bedroom, tastefully decorated, and filled with several things to make it warm and comfortable.
The staff are led by this wonderful Indian woman whose name escapes me just now. She is a consummate hostess for the business, and is quite a real asset.
It's in a great Victorian stye home. Just a handful of minutes from downtown Santa Barbara makes this place a great launching point for great adventures in the Santa Barbara area. We'll absolutely be back for a second visit. I highly recommend this place. -

So I decided to book with the Cheshire Cat Inn for a momentous getaway with my gf. We were going to be apart for 2 months so it had to be amazing. This was my first stay at a B&B and it was amazing! The experience could not have been better. The room was impeccable, clean, homey and so romantic (we had the Eberle room, with fireplace and jacuzzi sooo worth it!) The Inn was just beautiful, very comfy and clean. The courtyard had fresh flowers, lovely water fountain and the afternoon wine and appetizers made it even more lovely. We stayed during the week, so prices were cheaper and breakfast was smaller. Oh and the Innkeeper Bhati was a HOOT! Lovely woman with great stories!
It was such an easy getaway from LA, and I would recommend strolling from the Inn down to the Beach if its a nice day. -

Went to Santa Barbara for a wedding ... we couldn't have stayed at a more perfect spot. The staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly. If you like to be just outside the hustle and bustle of the downtown area but close enough to walk ... this is the place for you. Each room was unique with interesting identities of their own (mostly named after characters from "Alice in Wonderland"). If we ever have occasion to visit Santa Barbara again, there is no doubt where we'll stay!

Stayed here as part of our honeymoon. It was a lovely place--and who wouldn't want to stay in a gorgeous victorian? Stayed in the bottom floor in the main house, so it felt nicely private. Received a complimentary small bottle of wine and chocolates too. Breakfast was served outdoors buffet style, and it was very healthy and hearty.
Maybe we actually should have stayed two nights here--so we could have relaxed more and explored SB a little more too. -

My husband and I visited this place for our honeymoon and just fell in love with it. If you are looking for a quiet bed and breakfast getaway that is conveniently located yet far enough away from hustle and bustle, this is your place. It is beautifully decorated and kept up. The folks who run it are lovely. It is clean as can be. We just loved being able to walk to where ever we wanted to go. If you want more of an adventure, your driving distances would also be quite easy from this place. We rented the "Tweedledum" room with the Jacuzzi tub. What a treat! Also, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. We have already decided that this will be a great getaway for any future trips...anniversaries perhaps!

What a charming and hospitable B&B! Having stayed there twice I must recommend it to everyone. Our room (the Cheshire Cat Suite) was lovely - so cozy and comfortable, well appointed, and the shower and jacuzzi tub were just so luxurious.
The 5pm wine and appetizer hour is always fun and tasty, and you get the chance to meet and chat with other guests. Their full breakfasts on the weekends are absolutely delicious, and you can even have them deliver to your room for a decadent breakfast-in-bed experience. The expanded continental breakfast during the week was also wonderful, with fresh baked scones and great local coffee.
They have a hot tub, and lovely garden-like grounds with plenty of little spots to sit and enjoy the beautiful Santa Barbara weather. Also they are just walking distance to State Street, and any number of great restaurants and shops.
We'll definitely be staying there again for the next special occasion weekend we can get away for! -

I stayed here over the weekend. What a beautiful B&B. It was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast, and it was absolutely amazing. It was a very cute, Victorian style house. The service was great and they were very attentive. The rooms at the inn were named after characters from Alice in Wonderland. The rooms were clean and surprisingly enough the bed was very comfortable. The inn was very close to State St. so it was close to all the hustle and bustle.
Our room was very cute it had a fireplace as well as a hot tub but of course we didn't take advantage of the hot tub. We were pressed for time, we got there Saturday so we tried to do as much as we could. Between 5-6 they served wine and appetizers and you got to meet the other people staying at the inn.
On Sunday, they had the coffee out on the patio. For breakfast, they served poached pears with cinnamon and creme fraiche with a blueberry scone. They also served a Mexican style quiche. It was delicious. It was a very pleasant weekend and I will definitely be back. -

a set of pretty victorian houses with very pretty gardens. the garden space is probably one of the best things about this place.
service is polite and helpful. amenities of the rooms are average for a b&b. the wine and cheese in the evening is pleasant in the courtyard garden. the breakfast on weekdays is only continental; full breakfast on weekends. for this price point i would expect a full breakfast every day. in addition, the breakfast was mediocre. i'm afraid i have been spoiled by the ollaliberry inn in cambria, ca. -

My fiance and I stayed here yesterday and had a fabulous time! We really felt comfortable and taken cared of here.
The people really tend to our needs. We were offered wine and cheese, brownies late at night, and a nice breakfast. Maps, magazines were available for people like us who have never been here.
Our room was beautiful! Nice decorations throughout the home. Manicured, yet comfortable landscape.
We will tell alllll of our friends to visit this wonderful inn. We will be back often!
P.S. walking distance to the main st. in Santa Barbara, which is State Street and Stearn's Pier. -

This was my first time at a bed and breakfast. I was not really impressed. The happy hour was cheesy. Seemed real cheap. We requested breakfast be delivered to our room which was nice. But breakfast was not that great. We had utensils in our room for us to use which was dirty! Our king size bed was hard not comfy at all. The pillows were nice and fluffy. We didn't get clean towels everyday we had reuse the ones we had and after the third day we stay ,THEN we were able to get clean towels! Way over priced for what they offer!!!!

Beautiful 1870's Victorian house (well, two houses, a carriage house and some cottages), the decor was mainly period with some modern touches, friendly staff, delicious weekend breakfasts, super-comfortable bed, you really couldn't want more from a B&B. It's one block from State Street and we took two wonderful strolls through downtown.
The Cheshire is why you stay at B&B's instead of hotels. I'll definitely stay there again. -

A really cute victorian style B&B spot. We stayed here over the weekend and it was lovely. The service is impeccable, very attentive. Super clean. Bed is very comfortable. We stayed at the March Hare suite which has the corner view and it was fabulous. We had a lot of natural lights. Downside is that the room was a wee bit tiny, nevertheless not a huge problem because the comfort level of this place superseed it. The Cheshire Cat Inn is located just one block below States Street, close enough to the action but just far enough not to absorb all of it's traffic and noises. Our stay was short so we didn't have a chance to explore the rest of the ground. Parking was a bit limited. They actually do not have enough space for all tenants. No assign parking spaces, it's on a first come first serve basis only. But if you can't find parking, there's plenty of space on the street. Tons of great restaurants and shops within walking distant. Beach is close but will need a bike or car. Besides that all is good and it's such a lovely place for a quick weekend getaway from LA.
Have fun! -

Seeing how my fiance has been burning up in Hell's Kitchen, I decided to treat him to a winter retreat in Santa Barbara. I was a little skeptical at first when I found this B & B deal combined with dinner at a local French Restaurant. (Last time I found a hotel online, I swore I would never put myself through that again...) But I digress....My man and I arrived at the Cheshire Cat Inn and were swept through the rabbit hole (so to speak). Our room was amazing upgraded to a beautiful suite complete with an in-room Jacuzzi and a cozy fireplace. From the apricot homemade scones, to the friendly staff this was an inn to remember. Now I have to find new holidays to warrant another escape. (I don't celebrate Valentine's Day but Memorial Day is so far away!

We stayed at the Cheshire Cat Inn over the weekend. It was a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the Eberle room, which has a jacuzzi in the room! The breakfasts were very good as well. One morning was French toast served with fresh fruit and the next morning was a breakfast quiche with fresh strawberries. We had in room massages since the inn offers spa treatments. I've had better massages, but it was still a nice touch to provide spa treatments on site. The room and bed were comfortable and it's a very romanic place to stay. There's a journal for guests of the room to write in about their experiences at the inn and there were some pretty juicy details in there! ;) The snacks during the wine hour were high quality- deviled eggs, pinwheels, cheese and crackers, grapes, and white wine from a Santa Barbara winery. The inn is also within walking distance of State Street, so we never had to use our car while staying there. I highly recommend the Cheshire Cat Inn if you're going to Santa Barbara!

Review from Lisa H.
Palo Alto, CA
For our 1st year anniversary, my husband picked this place due to good reviews. However, we were pretty disappointed! The B&B assistant had all of our room assignments laid out on the table, "self serve" and spelled our last name wrong ... instead of say "Jan" she spelled it "Jang" and coincidentally another couple's last name was "Jung" ... so when we got in, the "Jung" couple had already picked up our "Jang" room, and we we got their room instead. It was terrible to say the least that our 1st year anniversary was the smallest room in the bed and breakfast, with neighboring walls. Not a romantic evening to happen. The owner later apologized in the morning, but our anniversary was lackluster, and nothing could be corrected. We were very disappointed. They should have at least identified & verified each couple's first name (and spelt our name correct in the first place) and credit card reservation. Asked each person who they were, rather than just be lazy and leave the guests to pick up their room keys. Mom & pop style definitely came across as unprofessional. It spoilt the charm!
