Cherry Sprout Produce
5 reviews for Cherry Sprout Produce
yay! friendly people, good produce.
try the house made salsa. you won't regret it.
As part of a school project I was in the neighborhood indulging my voyeuristic intentions, (I mean observing the general public and then writing about how they use public spaces - much less exciting). I ran across Cherry Sprout and did a little shopping.
I was really impressed with the selection, especially for the size of the store. They had a pretty good bulk section and great produce. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood (no matter what your reasons)
Cherry Sprout has an expansive selection of quality produce for such a small space. The prices are extraordinary. When walking through the market, a temptation arises to buy one of everything, even things not wanted or needed. Red lentils for 1.99/lb. I didn't need them. Had a large bag at home. Bought 'em anyway. Huge red bell peppers for 99¢ ea. How can one, with sound mind, walk past such an item without acquiring it?
Et cetera.
Cherry Sprout gets an easy 5 stars.
I only live 10 blocks from a Whole Foods, so I've been spending most(read every cent) of my grocery money there ,but then I discovered this place today...!! It's twice as far from my house, but I will gladly bike there as the produce is dirt cheap. I could'nt believe I only spent $20 bucks when I went there. (I bought a huge head of cabbage, kale, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, pears, bread, almond milk and some veggie broth.)
They have a little bulk section, vegan stuff, normal people stuff, and very friendly staff! And they are open til 7 which is pretty late for a small grocery...this place rules, and I'll be back.
Cherry Sprout is a small neighborhood produce market at the corner of Sumner and Albina, in between Alberta and Killingsworth. North Portland's answer to Uncle Paul's, Cherry Sprout stocks a wide array of local and non-local produce at completely fantastic prices. I've found avocados priced at 4 for a dollar, cucumbers at 3 for a dollar, and watermelon at 50 cents a pound. In addition to the great produce selection, which takes up the majority of the small space, Cherry Sprout also sells bulk grains and a small spattering of grocery items leaning towards the organic and healthy. The staff are all helpful and friendly. I don't have a bad thing to say about this place. In a neighborhood relatively isolated from the better farmer's markets it's a blessing, especially for those of us who don't have the wallet to get our groceries at New Seasons and would rather die than set foot in a Fred Meyer. Something about buying produce in a place bathed by fluorescent lights that also retails televisions and underwear just doesn't fit. Large grocery stores just don't feel like a place food ought to come from, but Cherry Sprout does. It's a wonderful part of the neighborhood.
