This place is delicious! On a recent family vacation we spent the night nearby and ending up coming here for dinner and breakfast. The rolls are amazing, the chicken strips and turkey with dressing were great. The cherry Danish at breakfast was unexpected and just amazing. Great ambiance and history.

My grandparents live near here and in all my summer vacations I can't believe that we hadn't stopped here before. It walked in and felt like I had walked into Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It's a sweet small town diner.
I got the Cherry Chicken Salad Sandwich, my girls got turkey dinners (just like Thanksgiving). Everyone else's food was great too. But the best was dessert. Cherry pie for me and my husband and cherry sundaes for the kids. So fun and yummy!
We had a party of 6 right a dinner time during the week of the 4th of July, and it did take a while for a table, but the manager/owner was so apologetic and we were on vacation so we were totally relaxed. :)

Sure, the burgers are tasty, the staff is genuine, and the overall vibe of the place makes you hum the star spangled banner. But you know, and I know, and the guy on the corner knows, you come here for the cherry pie!
    And it's amazing!

This isn't a place you come for the best food.  This is tradition.  My husband's family has been coming here forever and ever so every year we go.  The first year I was disappointed with the cafeteria quality food.  Now, after 8 years coming here, I enjoy it.  The cherry pie is delicious, if you like cherry pie, since that is the only pie they have.  I get the complete dinner -soup, dinner salad, cinnamon roll, dinner roll, entree, desert and drink.  The complete dinner is the way to go here.  Service is always super friendly and tonight with our group of twenty she suggested and happily gave us 5 separate checks.  This is a great place to go with the entire family.

This old school Americana in the beautiful northwest Michigan.

I had a meat loaf that was so full of home cooking - wonderful!
Finished it off with some nice cherry pie - WHY people go here anyway.

This is tiny town America within beautiful landscape. The lakes in these parts look like the Caribbean they are so clean/clear - amazing.

A DEF stop on our Michigan tour of food :)

Nothing screams more American that The Cherry Hut - on the shores of beautiful Crystal Lake in the lower peninsula in North Michigan, this is simply gorgeous country out there.
On a Sunday afternoon while riding our bikes around Crystal lake, we came upon The Cherry Hut - WoW !! what a unique place ! and in this area, the food is country cooking at its best.
But the biggest treat in the Cherry Hut is the Cherry pie, simply outstanding !!!

The Cherry Hut is old school all the way!  It has been around forever and a stop every time we head up to Crystal Lake.

If you know me, you know I adore cherries in any way, shape and form so a pie is a must for me.  Or two.  Or more.  Anyway, the pie is the end all for cherry pies.  We also pick up apple butter - enough for a long, long time, to take home and store for the 'lean' times of winter.

I can't speak for the food other than the sweets, but for some old time ambiance and delicious sweets, this is a place you should stop when in the area!

Wish I had some pie right now.

Yes! Cherry Hut!  5 big stars for you!

I've been going to the Cherry Hut since I was a child.  I always get the same thing: an egg salad sandwich on wheat toast (bread and butter pickles come on the side), a diabetes-inducing cherry ade, and a slice of cherry pie (warmed, but not ala mode).  Eating inside and outside are equally enjoyable.

This is SO the place to eat in Beulah!  How can anyone resist the happy-face cherry logoed street sign you can spot from a mile away?

Inside is pure cherry-themed American diner, complete with waitresses in dresses and frilly aprons straight out of "Alice."  Menus are shaped like cherries too.

Overall, the food is just OK.  The turkey-broth based vegetable soup was decent - strong broth flavor, but the veggies were overcooked and bland.  Both my companion and I got meal salads.  They were serviceable, but pretty boring, and quite expensive when you consider the smallish size and miserly allotment of toppings.  And the extra $2 I paid for turkey on my salad was not worth it, plus the little bit of turkey they did sprinkle on was dry and stringy.  Each salad came with a cherry muffin, which was excellent, but so reeked of butter I felt guilt with every bite.

On the other hand, the cherry pie was very, very, very good, as you would expect in a place called Cherry Hut.  Even better heated and a la mode.

The restaurant also has a gift shop area, and it is definitely worth getting a few jars of their best selling cherry jam -look for the ones with the tart cherries as the first ingredient.  But unlike the reviewer who took some jars home in his carry-on, my sister got her jam confiscated at security for being a "gel-like substance."  So if you are getting on a plane, pack your jam in your checked luggage.

This place has the best cherry pie ever! I saw an article in Gourmet magazine a few years ago about some small cherry  store in the middle of nowhere Michigan (ok West of nowhere). There are not many places in Michigan that get a several page article in a food magazine so I stop in for a slice. I was blown away. Just the perfect tartness, perfect flakyness and softness in the crust. Just amazing. I travel to Michigans U.P. often and take the detour to the Cherry Hut when I can. I brought some to work and a coworker like it so much he has a standing 2 pie order anytime I go.

The food in the restaurant is average, nothing to write home about, but the cherry pie is to die for.

Some folks say that no trip to Northern Lower Michigan is complete without sampling a fresh baked pie from The Cherry Hut in Beulah.

Last trip up there I heeded this advice and stopped at the restaurant to have lunch and pie.

It was as though I stepped through a time portal to 1956. The service was top notch and the food and pie was as fresh and inviting as it was served in the 50's too.

I would give the cherry pie 3 stars and the food 1 star.  It kinda reminded me of an old folks home minus the antiseptic smell.  The cherry pie is good, but it's not "the best I've ever had".  It is fun to have an old-school restaurant that people dream fondly of and write even more sentimentally about, but if you didn't grow up with it, I guess I just don't see the appeal.  I got a better cherry pie at the Elberta Farmer's Market on Thursdays (in the summer) just down the road.
The food:  tough as nails steak, stale club sandwich, lukewarm mashed potatoes - really, barely edible.
On the other hand, they did have the most adorable cherry-stuff that was handmade.  I fell in love with a little apron that was handstitched and presh.

You feel like you've done the time warp thing and been dropped straight into the 1950s when you land in the Cherry Hut.
The cheery, cherry red-and-white color scheme, which includes the dowdy server uniforms and the huge Cherry Jerry logo that adorns menus and grins somewhat manically on the sign out front, hasn't changed in my memory (and I suspect for many years prior to my first visit here).
This place is open seasonally, for the warmer months, so most of the staff are college and high school students, and the menu proudly lists "the girls" and "the boys" by name and school affiliation that work there each season. "The girls" tend to be college age and work as servers, "the boys" tend to be high school age and work in the kitchen...just sayin'
The food tends to be pretty old school and the type of thing that your old aunties might have cooked for their families, so it's not really a place I would go for a romantic dinner or cutting-edge cuisine. But for breakfast, lunch, or dessert, it's a decent choice.
I like their cherry sundaes, so we stopped by there recently for dessert. Tim, a real chocolate lover, had the cherry fudge brownie and liked that as well. Best of all, the bill for two desserts came in at under $10.
We also tried the breakfast buffet this last trip. Decent basic food (scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, hash browns, fresh fruit, corned beef hash-although the hash was of the mushy canned variety) on a buffet that was fresh, hot, and replenished in a timely manner. Quick and filling fuel before taking off on a day of hiking, taking photos, and having fun.
There's a small store at the front of the restaurant with Cherry Hut jams, sundae sauce, and other cherry-related products-a good place to pick up a couple of small gifts or things to take home to enjoy later.
So, it's not for the adventurous eater, but the place has been around since the early 1920s, so it's one of those kitschy and nostalgic places that you always stop by to at least pick up a sundae or a jar of jam when you visit the area.

Cherry Hut has been part of our family vacation for 35 years,  we return once or twice every summer.    The non-cherry food is quite mediocre, and in recent year we have avoided going there for full meals.  But the cherry desserts are excellent,  and I come from a family that has three generations of excellent pie makers.   But our favorite item here is not the pie,  it is the cherryade,  and we have never found a beverage like it any where else.  It is made from the run off juices when they make their cherry fillings for the pie.   Served over ice,  with lemon to cut the sweetness.   Not everyone likes it, but our family is addicted,  and we will stop by the cherry hut on the way to the airport to get one last hit of cherryade (you can get it to go usually).  We are going to be back in N.Michigan in two weeks,  and the Cherry Hut will be one of our first stops.

If I was basing this review only on the pie it would get 5 stars easily. But I regret to report that the rest of the food is somewhat lacking. Of course the place is known for its pie and with a name like "The Cherry Hut" you're not really going there for a sandwich but they do have a fairly decent sized menu and when you stay in Beulah and your hotel room isn't quite ready you might end up there for lunch.

That is to say that the grilled ham and cheese isn't BAD. It's decent. Nothing out of this world but tasty nonetheless. Nice hot, crispy french fries. A decent breakfast buffet of hot scrambled eggs and bacon, and GREAT cherry muffins. Over all, not a bad meal for the price but I wouldn't be shaking my friends saying "YOU HAVE TO GO HERE!" over it. BUT, the addition of a slice of cherry pie and a nice sugary glass of cherryade puts this meal over the top and makes this a destination location. Hands down the best cherry pie I've ever had and I've had a lot of cherry pie in my day. Just sweet enough inside (but just enough tartness to steer you clear of a toothache) and the crust is flaky and soft. Oh God, it's actually getting to the point right now where I am painfully regretting not buying one to take with me now that I'm back from vacation. I weep because I will not have another slice for another year at the earliest. The price is good and they carry a plethora of other cherry related products such as jams, jellies, and syrups (although I'm going to go ahead and say save your jam purchasing for the not terribly far Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor if you are looking to stock up on grocery goods) and some silly cherry hut regalia that you will be happy to sport because the logo is so good.

So yes, if you're looking for just a meal sans pie, maybe hit someplace else. But if you want a transcendental pie experience then get yourselves to the Cherry Hut. And please, bring me back a pie while you're at it.

Classic summer stop near Crystal Lake, I just wish it were closer to our cottage in Leelanau, but still worth the drive. The food is classic American fare in hearty portions, and the cherry pie is great. My favorite thing is being able to stock up on their delicious jams and jellies that get me through the Minnesota winters. I can't find any cherry jam anywhere that rivals it. This is a great place to take kids! I have very fond memories of stops to the Cherry Hut as a child.

I ate here during summer vacation & just couldn't get enough of it! The baked goods (pie & muffins) are wonderful. Warm, melt-in-your-mouth cherry deliciousness! I had the veggie sandwich for lunch & loved it as well. The atmosphere is way cute. The waitresses are dressed up in cherry themed outfits. The staff is kind and knowledgeable as well. If I ever make it up to Beulah again I will definitely be eating here!

The best cherry pie on the planet, and after a few pies, you will look like a planet. It's a good idea to overload your carry-on with their cherry conserve on the way out of town, it's a kind of informal express-pass to  the TSA staff.

My family makes sure to visit the Cherry Hut EVERY TIME they're in the area.  The atmosphere, the menus, the servers, the gift shop, and the food are all unique and well worth the visit.  I will be honest, the food isn't anything that's going to blow you over, but then again, you're paying for the atmosphere and good times.  I do like the Cherry Chicken Salad though, and it's almost A MUST to order a cherry-related desert! A must-visit for all northern MI tourists. Their gift shop is great too!

My family has gone to stay at Crystal Lake every year since I was a kid.  The Cherry Hut was always a key destination.  There's a reason its been around longer than most people live.  I have had the food before, and its nothing to write home about, although not terrible.  The pie, on the other hand, is hard to beat.  The crust is excellent, and the cherry filling tastes great.  These pies are worth the 6 hour drive every time.
