I recently re-joined Cherry Creek Athletic Club after trying other clubs for a couple of years. The main reason i came back was because they built the family locker room. I simply cannot tell you how much better experience changing and showering is. They have remodeled quite a bit since i was last a member and have this amazing pool area...unfortunately the kids ARE there, but I just bring my ipod.
The facilities are really second to none. I missed the abundance of machines and weights. You never have to wait in line. Also, they have the absolute BEST schedule of group classes I have ever seen. I am glad to be back!
PS- love the new stretch room, but could you PLEASE put a door on it. Now that the family locker room is down that hall, this kids going by is very distracting when I am trying to stretch.
I have been a member here for about 2 years. Its pricey, but they gym is one thing I spurge on. The outdoor pools, locker rooms are definently worth the price. I also play racquetball here, and its one of the few places left with courts....
I heard through the grapevine that cherry creek had done some fixes as far as the kids are concerned, so I went back last weekend and actually joined. Not having them in the locker room makes it like a nice adult club that is worth 100 a month. The programs such as basketball are great and they have anything and everything anyone could possibly ask for as far as equiptment, classes and luxuries. Good for you cherry creek for FINALLY listening to the kidless or as I prefer to say anti instead of pro creation folks!

hmmm
I have mixed feelings about this place. Thought about joining for the organized basketball… Read more »
I have mixed feeling too, and was a member before kids and now a member with kids. I have to say that they finally did the right thing by adding a family dressing room. Last summer I got glares from the memebers without kids and was told I could not take my kids in the dressing room at all before the kids pool hours. I felt that the anger about having kids in the club should not have been directed at the people with kids but at the club itself. The club needed to decide:are they kid friendly or not? If not fine-- then parents ought to look for another club. If the answer is yes, then MAKE IT KID Friendly by providing a changing area. So I guess they finally got off the fence and made a family changing area and the daycare is a great option.
I agree with the other reviewer that parking is bad. I also think that the addition of kick-boxing classes whould be welcome.
In the end, since I now have kids, I like that kids are being welcomed more. Also the fees seem more reasonable than some of the local non-franchise alternatives.
I love treating myself at Cherry Creek Athletic Club they have a great sauna, steamroom that you can enjoy after your workout! In the summer their outdoor pool is awesome, mini vacation in Denver.
I joined this club mostly because it is walking distance from where I live. It's a very nice place with all the amenities and a lot of group classes.
The front desk people are very sweet, and it is always clean. My only complaints are the fact that they are SO kid friendly. It's annonying. I want to go to the gym and perhaps the out door pool, not freaken Chucky Cheese! And often these screaming mouthpieces are in the ladies locker room running around with completely oblivious moms.
Another thing is the classes they offer, although many, are limited in times. I don't even get off work until 6 and by then most are over. They don't have nearly enough dance classes either and WAY too many yoga classes.
What I do love is the fact that the gym is never too crowded. The place I went to in Baltimore was a meat market filled with stinky guys. This place is nothing like that.
I just wish they didn't allow kids.
I was a member for one year and everything from the sales person who made an embarrassingly huge mistake when I decided to join, to the rather 1970's decor made me wonder why they act like an exclusive country club, instead of a gym. My primary reason for joining a gym is to take classes, and CCAC has a great variety and good instructors. However, they are all scheduled at times suitable only for the rich, the unemployed or housewives. There is no way I can make a class at 4:30 or 5 on a weekday. It just seems to be for older people who are semi-retired. As if to confirm my suspicions, one of their sales managers informed me that the classes aren't really geared toward the "working class." Yes, she said that, in an e-mail! The bottom line is, I have joined a different gym, that costs slightly less than CCAC, gives personal attention AND has late classes for those of us who DO work for a living and want to give our money to a place that deserves it!
My friend and I went Athletic Club Shopping the other weekend. We just moved into town and are on a mission to find the best overall club to join. This place had everything except for tennis courts. Courts are located nearby at a satelite location FYI. The pools were crowded with hip young families and the parking lot reminded me of the lot at R.L.S. High School. The only down side is that the membership salesman kept asking us if this place was in our buget. He also sat us down to talk about rates before our mini tour. If he only knew that we were transplanted from S.F. he wouldn't have repeatedly asked us if we could afford Cherry Creek. One can easily drop $100 a night on a few cockatils in the city.
