Although tiny and hideously expensive to fly into, the Traverse City Airport offers one of my favorite overall airport experiences since its renovation a few years ago.

This is the airport I grew up with, and the one I continue to visit at least twice a year when I visit my family up north. It still has gates A and B, and you still occasionally deplane in the middle of the tarmac (rather than walking into the airport via those tunnel things). No, I take that back. You still *frequently* deplane the tiny puddle jumper you flew in on in the middle of the tarmac, and it's often the dead of winter. (Given that the Cherry Capital Airport is located in the Frozen Northland, it's often winter. For like, eight months out of the year.)

The old airport was drab and grey and institutional. The new airport is northern, comfy, and welcoming with large stone fireplaces and the overall feeling of being inside a giant log cabin in the woods. One that, incidentally, also has a runway and fleet of jets outside. It's quite convenient, in fact.

It's not someplace I've spent a lot of time, but in the unlikely (to the point of virtual impossibility) event that I ever get stuck here on a layover, I totally wouldn't mind hanging out and reading a book by the fireplace. Which would require having to go back through security when it was time to catch my next flight, but that's okay. The crowds and security screening protocols are much less daunting than they are, say, in Dulles. Or New Orleans.

Long story short: I am a fan.

This is a nice regional airport.  It is very new, clean, spacious, and has a lot of nice places to relax.  I've flown in and out 4 or 5 times and it's always been a pleasant experience.

This airport is awesome.  Staffs are nice...airport is always clean.  I would give 5-star if not for the high rate parking.
But you won't dissappoint to get in/out of Traverse City.

    Tips:
there is only one giftshop and one cafe in the building....bring ur own foods/snacks is not a bad idea.  Cuppa has a pretty good coffee btw.

    free wifi for 15-mins

This airport is very small, but very friendly!  The inside is beautiful and clean, and the security check was fast and pleasant.  Not sure that I'll return to Traverse City in the near future (visited for a recent conference), but this is definitely a well run and friendly airport!

Having been over a decade since my last visit to TVC, I didn't expect to land in such a upgraded, modern facility.  The changes are definitely apparent and positive.

The Traverse City Airport (cheekily named Cherry Capital Airport, isn't that cute?) is the epitome of ease.

Since its renovation several years ago, it feels more like you are flying into someone's living room (fireplaces, leather loungers). I rarely get the chance to fly into TVC, but as chance would have it my little car couldn't brave the snowstorms and I snagged a decent flight roundtrip from Chicago to visit the homeland. (check efares the week before if you want to go roundtrip from Detroit or Chicago)

American, United and Northwest all service this airport, with connecting flights through Detroit and Chicago. Lucky me!

The new design is quite beautiful, and I mean...when's the last time you saw a "beautiful" airport? After spending nearly 3 hours at O'Hare in a cramped room with 1200 other annoyed passengers trying to beat the Easter Bunny home, this airport seemed like heaven. It's clean, comfortable, well laid out and convenient. My brother was waiting literally 3 feet outside the door for me...no circling, no short term parking 7 miles away. Oh, and if you do need to park it's like $6 per day...crazy.

Now, if only O'Hare wasn't the other leg of the journey and my dog could count as checked baggage, I'd fly every time I revisited my birthplace ;)

As a sky goddess, I have seen a million airports in my 11 year career in aviation.  A few years ago, the old terminal began gathering dust, and I anxiously awaited the unveiling of the "New" Cherry Capital Airport, or TVC, as it's known by those in the industry.

Well, you can see for yourself.  This airport is beautiful, shiny, and new.  I love the gift shop, Cuppa Joe, and the ease of access to all things a traveler needs (like rental cars, and speedy ticket agents).   I only wish that my airline flew mainline here, so I could get paid for visitng.

I was shocked at how beautiful this airport is.  Whoever decided to do it up in Arts & Crafts style hit the bullseye, from the comfy lounge chairs to the stained glass accents, display cabinets, and the cool 1" tiles in the bathroom (including the larger accent tile that on inspection is actually a map of the Grand Traverse Bay area).

Quick check-in, short lines, easy rental car access (right next to the terminal), this airport is a gem.

Cherry Capital Airport by far is the prettiest small airport I've visited.
Small size means fast check-in, shorter walk. But the newly renovated airport has lots of modern touches.
In addition, Traverse City is a pretty town next to the big lake :)

This is a small regional airport with a nice new terminal building, clean common areas, and comfortable seating if you need to wait. Airlines and rental services are staffed lean, so you may have to wait to check in your car (no outside staff for Hertz) or get your boarding passes. There are not a high frequency of flights in/out but that's a "feature" of regional facilities.

Love the Cherry Capital Airport, but don't love the airfares to get there!  The airport is clean and has an up-north atmosphere.  As Judith L. mentioned, it would be great to offer free wifi for travelers.  The cafe in the terminal offers a nice variety of snacks and beverages.  Getting through security doesn't take long and parking is easy here.

CCA is a great improvement over the old terminal building. The Interior is very nicely decorated and full of light thanks to lots of windows. No frills, no excess, just nice (just like TC).

Only problem is that it still lacks staff. I've been delayed flying in because "they had to call someone to come back and plow the runway." I mean its TC, in the winter, think people think. We flew up in hopes that someone had plowed the runway, otherwise we'd be landing in Pelston (that would have been great).

I've also had troubles with the baggage handling. I arrived once and had to wait an hour for my bags to arrive at the baggage carousal. Apparently they couldn't drive the baggage carts out to the plane because it was to icy... or some ridiculous reason.

I absolutely love flying out of TC, its by far the best airport that I've traveled through, but you can't get 5 stars because everyone else sucks :P

Many of the previous reviews mention delayed flights, and that's exactly what I experienced as well.

The airport itself is small, but very nicely designed. Unfortunately, the evidently frequent delays are poorly handled by having such meager staffing. I was much better served calling directly to the airline to deal with rerouting instead of waiting in the extremely long line at the service desk.

If you do get hit with a delay, you'll long for a good restaurant/bar but you're instead stuck with a convenience store. There's nothing else remotely close to kill the time, so be prepared to be miserable. Our flight was delayed due to mechanical issues, and they had to page the mechanic who was "20 minutes away". This ended up being over an hour before the mechanic even arrived. Ahh, the joys of a remote airport...

A beautiful facility.  Getting in it is not half the fun if you're a single traveler, however...no curb service, and dragging a bag through snow is nobody's picnic.  New food facility is so-so.  Rated the second most expensive airport out of which to fly, unfortunately--but lay that blame on the airlines, not the airport.  I'd suggest they go for free wifi--that would help easy the pain of delayed flights.

Modern, with a new and upbeat feel to it. Definitely not your typical airport, in decor or size.
The small size alone makes it attractive, with getting through ticketing, security and everything else a breeze. Not much in the way of food aside from a couple vending machines and a small restaurant, but they do have nice waiting areas, Wi-Fi and a few name brand rental car offices.
Ive been to other, smaller airports before, but this one has some life to it-and its very clean.
