Cherry Blossom Festival - Monterey Park
2 reviews for Cherry Blossom Festival - Monterey Park
I love Cherry Blossom's! Too bad there weren't any! It was SUPER hot when I went too. UGH.
Regardless we made a good day of it. Performers, food, vendors, and the usual festivities. I really liked the Sumo wrestling!!! I thought it was so cool and funny how these huge guys in big thongs were attacking each other. Good times!
There wasn't too much to see and do but it was a nice little experience and the Sumo wrestling was pretty cool. :) Good times!
Taiko drums very good as Masa recommended. Think an epic dynasty movie and the soundtrack. Other than that, not too japanese in the atmosphere, at Barnes Park with two stages for performances. I went for a couple of hours on Saturday only. Parking at three locations with shuttle service. Shuttle service a bit slow. Ample parking found on the street around the park. Traffic on the 10 freeway fairly busy, lots of traffic in the Monterey Park as usual.
Lots of small booths and stands with food, jade jewerly, mochi, t-shirts, tote bags, etc. I tried the chocolate, fruit and peanut butter favored mochi as Fugetsu-Do had a booth there. Pretty nice black and white brochure with history of the festival, performers, vendors list. First visit to this one here, it's the 10th annual. Doesn't come close to the one in SF as there is a fairly large jtown there with a pagoda. Keep in mind when meal planning that many of the restaurants here close in the late afternoon until about 5pm.
