Burger was good but the bacon was old and overcooked. Waffle fries were tasty. By far the best cole slaw (made w/ red cabbage) I've ever had. I normally taste cole slaws to see how they are but rarely do I ever find them edible. Theirs was outstanding. The beer service was a little slow because the tap happened to kick at that moment and oddly they must have run out of Coke as well because the hostess ran out and came back with bags of 2-liters from the local bodega. All in all, a pretty solid eat with reasonable prices for the area.
I say good for groups because as I was there, there was a table of 6 to my left and a group of 10-14 entered and were all seated within ten minutes. They handled it well.
I am a huge fan of this place. If there was a "go-to" spot for me and my gf in her neighborhood it would be this, we've been here many times, and the service is always great, and the food is always even better.
The previous reviews are correct, the burgers here are indeed, QUITE tasty. What they failed to mention though, is the size! They are Ginormous! Juicy, and full of flavor. On top of that, they give you waffle fries with their burgers (and sandwiches).
As yummy as their burgers are (the last one i got was a pepperjakk cheese burger, YUM YUMMM!), their sandwiches are also not to be played with. A couple weeks ago, I decided to go with the honey mustard chikken sandwich, it was scrumtrulescent (yet another made up word)!!! I would definitely recommend this place for lunch (at lunch, you can spin a wheel to get a free lunch) or dinner. Great prices, great food, great service...why not?
A-ok. Not the best food I've had in my LIFE buuut pretty good for a late night cozy meal.
I was a little annoyed that they didn't have sour cream or provolone cheese. Especially serving burgers and potatoes. How do they not add sour cream to a mash potato? Oh well. I survived it just barely haha.
The waffle fries were AWESOME. SOOOO good. Crispy but smooth and velvety inside. Nicely seasoned too. Tasted like the seasoning you get on Arby's curly fries kinda. Mmmm.
One note? They need AC .. ASAP!
fat Peter rating system.
as follows:
STARS- standard yelp
CHANCE I WILL BE BACK- 3 time + will be back soon (meaning its a pass my standards)
Reason to go/went: wandered in /
Found it wandered in, before seeing Ave Q. IT was cheap fast had the FRESH Rigatoni w/ Bacon and tomatoe etc.
GOOD!! CHEAP. Its my kind restaurant. Good fair price.
Let me start off by saying that a group of us went here around 9:15 PM for a late dinner. Most of the other people in the restaurant were there for drinks.
It took our waitress about 10 minutes to come to our table after we were seated. After we placed our order, it took about 40 minutes for it to come out. If we were there during the dinner rush, that would be totally ok. However, nobody else in the restaurant was eating!! When we alerted our waitress that we had been waiting for a while, she replied by saying "I didn't think it's been thaaaaat long."
Food was acceptable. Nothing special or over the top. Prices were reasonable for the area though.
good prices, good service and big portions of food! i went with the honey dijon chicken and spring rolls for appetizers.. both good.. was sitting at the bar, so had some jack + cokes, again, good staff so the drinks were made nicely. i definitely will be heading back to try more of the menu..
Great spot to grab a late night bite to eat. Ambiance was nice with exposed brick walls and tealight candles at every table. Service was kinda spotty after midnight because the bartender doubles as the waiter. Sandwiches are pretty big and come with waffle fries.
All I've gotta say is WAFFLE FRIES. I stopped in here with my friend while her and I were making our way back to Penn Station and wow - what a pleasant surprise. For the area, this restaurant is surprisingly modestly priced. My friend and I both had two beers, a portabello sandwhich, which came with tonsss of waffle fries, cole slaw aaand a pickle - less than $40! On a Friday night, though, this place was a packed house, so be prepared for a wait.
One of my fave spots. The service is friendly and I always see the same staff. The atmosphere is nice and cozy - they always seem to have the same music from my iPod playing. I'm a sucker for exposed brick, so of course this place is perfect.
Even though I try to branch out a little, I always seem to have the same things: half Caesar salad and a bowl of Cajun Chicken Corn Chowder. I love that stuff!!! I've had a burger on occasion - and they're amazing as well. Very large and they come with waffle fries!!! The guac and chips is okay. I do love me a little French Martini.
Overall, this is one of those places where I know what to expect and they always deliver.
The boyfriend and I went in search of some late night food since we spent most of our day trying to put our new apt together. We walked by Chelsea Grill in hopes of getting some ok late night dinner. Boy were we surprised! The boyfriend had a Chelsea Burger which was more than he could finish, and I am now totally in love with the Blackened Chicken Caesar salad.
We will definitely be returning there with friends.
I like the atmosphere of this place. It is a good place to go with a friend for a beer. The food is okay here. The burgers are decent. The salads try to be fancy and sophisticated, but they fail in that regard. That said, I wouldn't say no if someone asked me to go here again.
Really great happy hour prices! $4 beers and house wines work for me. Wings were good, guacamole really good too. I'd definitely go back!
I have gone back here a few times since my original review, but this time I must say was terrible! I had the grilled vegtables which had no taste and it came with this generic "yellow" rice. I can make it better than this. We also had the cheeseburger, told the waitress NO bacon, but it came with it anyway. It was pretty gross. She asked if you wanted tomato, then lettuce, then onion, why don't they just put it on the side instead of wasting all that time asking. The only good thing was the corn soup. They could also clean the place up a little. The tables and silverware seemed a little skeevy. I will not return here anymore. The food took pretty long for it not being too jammed.

I have been to Chelsea Grill three times, mind you it's not the most exciting place around, but the… Read more »
Meh. Ok.
While doing the usual "I'm hungry, must be time to walk down 9th Ave" evening stroll, we decided upon this place with a lovely table in the large, open windows facing the street. We ordered guac as an appetizer and we waited...and waited...and waited...finally I grabbed our waitress's attention to politely remind her we had an appetizer coming (while thinking in my head - wtf how long does guac take, people?!). Other than that, everything else was ok. Not great, not bad, just ok.
Call it a lack of options combined with our proximity to Hell's Kitchen, but we ended up wandering into this place after spotting the menu on the sidewalk, which boasted a decent selection with relatively cheap prices.
While nice, there wasn't anything overly impressive with this place. By far, the highlight of the experience was the special glass with the chipped faux gold rim for the Stella I ordered. The grilled chicken sandwich I ordered off the menu claimed to be "marinated" but was definitely not. Sure, it had the nice layer of seasoning on the outside, but marinated implies that the flavor exists throughout the whole bite. The piece of "marinated" chicken that I received was pretty anticlimactic in that regard.
The service was also a little slow for my taste, but I'll attribute that to the fact that they only had one server, and she was responsible for the entire house (which was relatively full when we were trying to pay and leave).
All in all, not a bad spot, but definitely not one I'd seek out again.
Pardon the conflicting Catholic metaphors, but Hell's Kitchen is salvation for souls otherwise consigned to the Theater District. Found this nearby joint thanks to Yelp (well, http://mobile.yelp.com on my tiny Palm Centro screen).
The Food... The husband ordered the sliced beef special, which bore an uncanny resemblance to a peppery Chinese dish. At the risk of sounding self-discriminatory, eating a Chinese-tasting meal in an American restaurant really gives a sense of dislocation to a diner (of Chinese descent). Where's the surly service and chopsticks?
Despite the sensory surrealism, the dish was fairly good. Truthfully, I can't remember what I ordered (long day that had started at 4:45am) -- I think it was a chowder and definitely broccoli rabe on the side. Decently done.
The Ambiance... Classic grill, very busy but comfortably so. We got the window seat and stared at the customers surging in and out of Amy's Bread. Lively crowd, although the closest table to us was a couple on a date. Awkward. I tried not to eavesdrop, as the guy went on about his ex-girlfriend being unsupportive. Doesn't this fall under the same no-no principle as not bad-mouthing your old boss? I brought up the date scenario with The Husband and he said, in his typical Grinch-y cut-to-the-chase assessment, "Yeah. He was annoying." Moral? Chelsea Grill apparently makes annoying men more palatable, as his lady friend wanted to go with him to some future event.
Hell's Kitchen doesn't lack for good options, Chelsea Grill's a decent choice, hugely better than overpriced, lesser-quality Theater District joints, and makes mediocre dates seem appealing. Bless its soul.
Bleu Burger = oh so good
Teriyaki Glazed Salmon = mmmmmm
Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf = oh my lord, I've gone to heaven
I've only been here three times, but I remember my completely satisfying meals with fondness. I called ahead once, showed up and was seated immediately another time, and had a brief wait upon showing up my third time. Friendly service who did not rush us at any point. The food was absolutely delicious. Decent wine selection. I didn't have appetizers or dessert. The portions were generous and I was pleasantly full. Great for small groups since it's not the biggest place. I prefer to sit towards the front where it is lighter. It's a bit dark in the back and close to the kitchen and restrooms. Mmm, bleu burger. I'm hooked.
WOW...we ALWAYS find somewhere new every trip and this is our new spot this time!
This is a super busy time around here right now and the place was packed and we still had fantastic service!
The menu is great and the wines and cocktails are perfect! Pricing is very good and we found it to just the right mix for NYC locals!
Our meals we perfect in every way and could not have asked for them to be made any better! Great for the people who don't want the tourist traps! Go where the locals go....Great Hell's Kitchen location too
Okay, Chelsea Grill, you get another shot. I vowed to never again subject myself to your culinary atrocities, but 6 months later, I'm back. I'm a bit trepidatious but the bartender remembers me and mixes a strong drink. I don't want to talk to anyone but I enjoy the din, the bustle of a round of shots being passed over my head to squeels and whoos of delight as I wolf my cheese steak and guzzle my drinks. And, yes, it's a very good cheesesteak. And the waffle fries are as fine a fried potato product I've ever encountered. I hope that you've gotten your late night kitchen in order and this was not an anomaly because I really want to get back together.

Good-bye Chelsea Grill. To my deep chagrin, I must cross you off my list of favored neighborhood… Read more »
I love their waffle fries and the portobello burger is the best. Yummy in my tummy. A little cramped, but not so bad by NYC standards. Beer tasty, prices acceptable, staff a'ight. Though basically just good in my book, they get the fourth star because they are a favorite of my friend and (mostly) because they have great crispy waffle fries. I'm a star slut for a great waffle fry.
More restaurant than bar, I wonder what the scene is like later at night? Perhaps I will have to go back to find out (and have a rendezvous with some sexy waffle shaped goodness...)
I always walk by this place on the way to work and thought it looked so cozy and cute. I decided to try it out a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is mostly your typical bar food, but the ingredients are of much higher quality and much better than you would get at any other bar in the area. I had the penne ala vodka with chicken. The sauce was so amazing. My boyfriend got the cheesesteak (which he liked) and the waffle fries (which I tried and were delicious) They have a great happy hour that lasts until 7pm. Also, you can spin a wheel to win a free lunch during the day. The bartender and staff were very accomodating and friendly. We will be back.
Stopped in for lunch with my friend Ellen - I guess you'd classify the food as New American - I went with an excellent turkey burger, along with some waffle fries, and left with a smile in my tummy.
The staff was really friendly too, I'd go back here for dinner or lunch.
This is my favorite restaurant in Manhattan.
This is my favorite restaurant in Hells Kitchen.
Wow.. their food is the BEST; I love the Steak Salad, Green Apple Salad, Steak Sandwich, Soups, French Toast, Chelsea Burger..
Everything is always cooked perfectly! The service is great too.
Do yourself a favor and head on over!
Surprisingly good.... a cross between a real restaurant and a pub. If you're undecided about which vibe you're leaning towards, go here. Food is pretty good, price is just about right and it's neither too loud nor too stuffy of a place to grab a bite in Hell-sea.
Bacon-wrapped meatloaf and calamari salad are great, although a single portion size here is enough for two. I didn't have the waffle fries, but they sure look delicious... I checked out a plate delivered to another table and was envying them from afar!
Worth a try if Mercury Bar is too loud and Eatery or Hell's Kitchen seem a bit much for you.
I really enjoyed this quaint bar in Hell's Kitchen. A friend of mine suggesting meeting there and when I arrived I ordered an extra dirty greygoose martini ($11)... very tasty. I then asked the hostess if I could be seated without my friend... the bar was starting to get more crowded and I wanted to snag a table.... with no hesitation she seated me without my friend. The service was right on and we ordered the caprese salad and calamari appetizers. The caprese salad was nothing special, but I really enjoyed the calamari... fresh and lightly fried. I enjoyed the battered.
It's 7:30pm and the show is at 8:15. We luck out and get a table right away. Miracle.
We advise the server we have exactly 35 minutes. She says to order salad and rare beef, we'll make it, and order all at once.
Two minutes later I order the beef salad, rare, and a Blueberry Cosmo. Coworker orders the Grilled Chicken salad and an apple martini.
Server rocks the world and everything is divine. We make our show.
This is rare in NYC, and I will be back next time!
If you want something a little more high end than your average pub fare, decent prices and food that would appeal to the masses go here.
I think these are the only three reasons I will ever visit again. I'm not day dreaming about the meal I had here in anyway, in fact what did I get, what have I gotten? It's just a good solution which in my mind is never a destination to desire unless you are entertaining and need to make a happy medium decision.
This really is a great place in HK. A great place to meet up with friends and have some good burgers and fries, or sandwiches and salads. Friendly staff and pretty good sized restaurant too. Been here a couple of times and enjoyed it each time. Casual atmosphere and great food = great mix!
So what do you get when you renovate garage with a grungy brick building? Why you get Chelsea Grill of course. Its interesting how the front area of the place (during hot summers) is a big garage door that can literally be lifted up to welcome some outside dining.
The food has been stellar but simple and hence nothing fancy. My burger was presented quite well, I suppose it chimes with the place's overall theme. The night time ambiance suggests its a nice place for a relaxed date or a place to meet for some drinks as they have a full service bar. Service has always been friendly and the prices are reasonable to make this neighborhood joint a frequent destination.
So it was another saturday night...
I was looking for a steak as usual and saw the sirloin steak WITHOUT the price on the menu...I wanted to test my chance for the night and stepped in...
very nice atmosphere and laid back music, nice; not boring not pushy light indoor, comfy seating area...good for groups i guess not for a romantic dinner i guess...
I had a calamari salad promised to be an entree by my waitress, came with crispy romaine and fresh guacamole and nicely fried calamari ( little less on the amount size )..Large enough to share for two as a starter...
I had a glass of Merlot not bad or aired just smooth enthusiastic flavor...
The sirloin steak was beautifully seasoned medium rare on the rare side tasty and juicy($31 little high but worth it)
nicely done creme brulee but no raw sugar next time please...
wait staff was ok needed to remind i need more time alone wih my food but it all went well ...I will be there in a month or so when they change the menu...
Excellent food, better than excellent dessert. Fabulous waitress and great seats. All this made for a wonderful evening with a couple of my friends. Even though there were people waiting, we weren't once asked to leave or even hinted at that, which was unusual, since we had probably spent about three hours at our table. I recommend their chocolate tart dessert. They also have a great selection of beers.
My fiance and I love the brunch here! I get to have my awesome seasoned steak and eggs, and he gets to watch the games (plural) on the screens.
When it's nice out, they also open the doors in the front. Nice ambiance, nice people-watching.
Late night food that's decent and filling. The best part was the side of fries that came with the portobello burger. I'm not a huge fan of waffle cut fries but these hit the spot. Perfectly crispy and potatoy. Decent selection of beers. I've heard the brunches here are good so I'll have to go back to yelp more about it.
This place was very nice and it was especially cool to get the only table next to the outside. I have to dock some stars based on the unnecessary sloooooowness of the service. There were two other parties there when my friend and I arrived to have lunch yet for some reason our order took a half hour to get to us. The bread was amazing -- but we'd been sitting there for about 15 minutes before it arrived. The prices are okay, but my friend ordered chicken on her penne a la vodka and didn't get it -- and then it appeared on the bill. The ambiance was very nice and the food was decent though.
This is my favorite dinner burger place - nice large dinner sized pattie with med rare cooked to perfection. I like it better than Corner Bistro, Shake Shack, Burger Joint (in Le Parker Meridian), and Island Burgers. Waffle fries also delish. Non burger menu gets 3 stars...get the BURGER here - It will change your life.
I really dig this spot - solid food (the best veggie burger I've ever had, really, _ever_), broad enough selection of food choices, good beer selection, and a not too loud, not too quiet atmosphere. If it weren't for the fact I never go the same place twice in New York, I'd be back on the next trip - I might have to break my rule.
You knew it was the final nail in the coffin of Chelsea when the Chelsea Grill that was on 8th Ave in the 20's, i.e. actually IN CHELSEA, closed and this one stayed open. Very very amusing. But on to the food. Always satisfied, never impressed. I want to love Chelsea Grill more, I just can't find anything that special about it. Sure, it's a nice atmosphere, the food is good, I've never been disappointed, but I never recommend it anyone unless they just want a "decent meal." And usually people are looking for something a little more spectacular when they come to dine in my 'hood. 9th Ave has some really wonderful restauarants on it, and this just isn't one of them. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but it's not really that good either.
The service here was very slow. We waited about 10 minutes for our wine, and 30 for our meal... on an average-ly busy Tuesday night, this shouldn't be happening. The food was fine, but completely forgettable. With so many interesting-looking restaurants on 9th, I'd suggest you keep on walking and find something a little more fabulous than this place.
I asked the manager if this was the same place that was down 8th Ave near 16th and he said yes, and that he used to be the GM down there too. I used to frequent the other place a lot when I lived in the neighborhood, and I was pleasantly surprised to see this place up in Hell's Kitchen. The signature stuff is the Chelsea burger and the waffle fires. So juicy. I also tried the meatloaf wrapped in bacon and that was pretty tasty as well. The decor is casual, but nice enough for a casual date. The old place had a nice big outdoor area which I missed, but overall, it's pretty good joint for a nice burger. I will be back!
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I popped in here for a late dinner after flying in from the west coast. I was expecting pub fare, but ended up with a really tasty mango/salmon entree. Double true on the friendly service.
