I came here through a recommendation from my brother, who knows I have a thing for cooking and the little gadgets that goes with it. I wouldn't have known about this place if it wasn't for him, as this little place is off the beaten path in South San Francisco, but if you make the trek out, you'll be hard pressed to leave the store empty handed. They have almost every little gizmo one could ever desire. The staff here is friendly, they usually don't circulate in the shop from my experience, they are usually at the front helping to check customers out and restocking, but if you just go up to them ask them directly they are always helpful.
They do have deals on products in their pallet alley and clearance tables, so far, I have yet to find anything that floats my boat there, still I'll keep checking them out. They have some kitchen knives as well, and the overall quality of the different brands were decent, but I felt that the selection especially for left handers to be a little on the limited side, that said this place isn't just a knife shop, and as a whole, the overall diversity were you can get anything from foil tart cups, micro-burners, and Cuisinart mixers in some pretty awesome colors, and to have that in a single convenient location more then makes up for it.
I won't go to say that certain the entire store is the cheap, usually the items they sell are of high quality so therefore you pay more for it, additionally for me, while I'm sure I can find certain things on the Internet for a cheaper price, when it comes down to the tools that I work with, I prefer to pay a little more on a product that I can hold and inspect before I buy it, to ensure that it will work for me. I'll definitely be back and keep eye balling those Le Creuset pots.
I was looking for a huge pot for cooking lobsters. I walked in and the place was huge, wall to ceiling anything to do with kitchen from towels, to gourmet salad dressing.
They have a mix of name brand and generic, all good quality. They even have knife sharpening service at select times.
Back to the lobster pot, there were about 5 to chose from, the largest being a pot that could fit a small child in. I went for the 20quart a bit pricey, but looked built to last.
Bought one of those rubber thingies that helps you open stuck jars for $1. I also got a nice oyster shucking knife there, high quality!
the customer service is great, I asked about 100 questions and the lady was really helpful.
If you are a professional chef to amateur cook, this place is a great resource. If you want cheap, Walmart and Target is the way to go, this store has better quality and specialize items.
Amazing prices and great selection!
So happy I went to this place. They have a great selection. The prices on regular items are not impressive but you'll definitely find some great deals in pallet sales section. The store is spacious and nicely organized. I will definitely be back again!
They have a lot of good stuff, including a lot of onsie twosie items for the at-home chef in you. Great selection of bakeware, and even restaurant-specific stuff like waist aprons and stuff. I prefer to support the local small guys like this versus buying from Amazon, but not everything here exactly value-priced.
This place is a bit off the beaten path in SSF. However, if you make your way here, you won't be disappointed. They are sorta set up like Williams Sonoma and Sur La Table only cheaper. The store is spacious and nicely arranged. We found some All Clad pots discounted 20% off that day (you can't find that at WS!). There were also some heavily discounted Xmas items on sale.
This place is a cook's dream. Staff was also very friendly.
Lots of great kitchen stuff and brands we love (all clad, le crueset, kitchenaid, cuisinart + more) all at great prices. They also have some gourmet mustards and jams that are pretty tasty.
This place is not good for those with no willpower and a love of kitchen gadgets, you'll walk out with more than what was on your list.
Prices are off the bat cheaper than WS, SLT, etc and they also take the Passport card for certain purchases.
Found out about this place long time ago while watching an episode of Bay Area Bargains. Convinced my mom that we should check it out (I like to get her approval when it comes to kitchen and food stuff) so we went and spent maybe three hours discovering the little treasures they have there. They have a good selection of dinnerware, bakeware, cookware. Just looking at their merchandise makes me want to cook or bake something.
This place made me say "yay" and "uh oh" at the same time.
I'll start with the "yay" part. The store is:
- large
- organized
- staffed with nice people
- an easy drive from my house
- stocked with many of the brands that I love (Cordon Bleu, Wusthof, Le Creuset, Stonewall Kitchen, Nordicware, All Clad)
- discounted around 20-30% on everything, even more on sale items
You can probably figure out the "uh oh" part. Let's just say that i went in to get a milk frother and $91 later was stuffing my trunk with 2 bags full of kitchen items (all absolutely necessary, I assure you!)
Wonderfully well-kept secret, worth a special trip. Tons and tons of serving pieces - perfect for your next party. Want to make the beehive cake on the cover of MS LIving? Buy the pan here, at a discount.
I wish I could get married again (to the same guy) just so that I could register here.
I may never go to Williams-Sonoma again!
I think I died and went to heaven. Who KNEW this was in South City?!?
For what I needed, I don't think the prices were that spectacular.
But what's more important was that they had a WONDERFUL, well laid out, brightly lit and pleasant store.
And they had EXACTLY what I needed- square cake pans with removable bottoms. NOT easy to find AT all. I love this place. Can't wait to go back with all my friends.
This place is great! Definitely a place to go if you're looking for high quality cookware at discounted prices. You'll need some will power if you're just going to window shop.
Pros. Best brands cheaper than retail and good quality. Sometimes I'll find these brands at other outlets but they're scratched up, dented or defective. Not the case here.
Cons-It's a bit of a mess but worth it.
My heart starts pounding when I think about this place. It is a gastronome's dream, stocked with products from every high end culinary manufacturer....at discounted prices. The 60% off table or the pallet sales stocked with merchandise alone make me salivate, as does the discounted All Clad. Sparkely D. had it right by saying it's like Sur La Table at Blue Light Specials.
You can find everything from ceramic knives to cocktail napkins to corn on the cob holders to large scale kitchen/catering ware. And if they don't have it in stock, they'll let you know when they will. The staff are very helpful and provide great education on their wares.
Go to Kamei for the el cheapo regular stuff with seriously lacking service. Go here for the exquisite.
Chef's warehouse is kitchen warehouse open for public customers. This place is awesome!
I heard about this place from a friend of mine long time ago but I didn't have opportunity to go since they are located in South San Francisco (I drive to the city all the time but I seldom stop in South San Francisco).
If you would like to shop at Sur La Table or Williams Sonoma, you can find same items with discounted price. They really have a wide range of kitchen items. There are some LeCrusett collection and I found some of items are cheaper than LeCruesett outlet store in Gilroy.
W*O*W
50% off Calphalon? (and not the Target Calphalon, either) $1martini glasses? $1 champagne glasses? O Hell to the no! A fool and his money are soon parted---and the fool in this scenario would be me and anyone else whose serious hobby is cooking, drinking, entertaining. Zyliss kitchen gadgets, Barefoot Contessa muffin mixes, silicone oven mitts all residing under one roof---I get overstimulated just thinking about it.
Cindy K. brought me to this place where she secretly splurges on high end cookware and doesn't have to feel that guilty about it. If Sur La Table is like Nordstrom, Chef's Warehouse is like Nordstrom Rack - same quality, but about 30% cheaper. I love Le Creuset, but sadly, that stuff is well above my price range. Here at Chef's Warehouse, it's a little more affordable. They have All Clad cookware, Wusthof knives, and tons of gadgets and kitchen decor for well below retail. When I get a bigger kitchen, I will most definitely be back. Oh yeah, and when I start cooking at home more. Yeah, that's it.
So after a couple talk threads made me rack my head for off-the-radar kitchenware stores, I was reminded of Chef's Warehouse and decided to go back today. I didnot remember how great I thought this place was! Probably cuz I dropped more $$ here than I should've, and the remorseful part of me instituted some sort of selective amnesia.
Their on-hand selection of stuff, while spotty, is still impressive and cheaper than you'd find at other retailers. They've got namebrand - All-Clad, Le Crueset, Kitchen Aid, Lodge Cast Iron (biggest Lodge selection I've seen in one place), and lots of plates, crockery, and many other food-related gadgets and doohickies.
I got to talking with one of the staff/purchasers and he had behind-the-counter catalog after catalog of product specs. *Do you have any 2-qt All-Clad saucier pots?* Hmm - I think we only have the 3qts left, but let me see in here, ahh, yes, we're listing the 2qt at $97.00, we can order it for you if you want. *Wow - they've got one at William-Sonoma for $130.00! Aww - I'm so tempted but I think I've spent too much as it is.* That's ok, we order all the time, I'll make sure to keep a couple in stock. Check back whenever.
It'll probably be best if my broke-ass self forgot about this place again.
definitely a great place to pick up our supplies. everything is here, from pots, bake ware, racks, strainers, great plates too! we were able to score on a sale day and small square plates were 99cents ea (or even less..) but we now have cappuccino and teal colored plates in our collection. books, aprons, even some stonewall jams/sauces near the front door. and if you are like us (chefs!) and have that fancy business card, they give you a 10% off, how sweet.
I love this place!!! Every time I shop there I spend well over an hour looking and E*V*E*R*Y item they carry. It's like Sur La Table at Blue Light Special prices! The prices are great, plenty of parking, and the staff is really nice. Dress warmly in the winter and it gets nippy in there.
If you enjoy cooking and hosting parties like I do, you'll love the Chef's Warehouse. You can get amazing discounts on cookware, serveware, bakeware... you name it. All super-quality items in a large space at discount prices. What more could a foodie ask for. Highly recommend
Love, love this place!!! I drove all over the place for some baking specific tools, and I got nothing. Until I found Chef's warehouse, I can spend the entire day here, be mesmerized by all the pots and pans, bakeware and gadgets, and most importantly, get all the toys I need for baking . The staff is very friendly and helpful. I have no need to sharpen my knives, but if you do, they have that too.
