Chef Stephanie and her staff recently catered for us, and we couldn't be happier.

She worked with us on our slightly odd concept, and made it work. Importantly, the food was delicious. Perhaps less discussed, and just about as important are her skills as a project manager; she's very efficient, responsive, organized, and, generally speaking, in charge!

I have had the pleasure of  dining and working with Chef Stephanie in both San Francisco and New York City, and she is inspiring in demeanor, professionalism, service and creativity. It is so rare to find a true artist who is able to manage detail, staff and design while maintaining a calm, grounded demeanor. I would fly her anywhere to  design any event I was hosting, and have recommended her to my own highly demanding celebrity clients. She is a wealth of knowledge and you will always get way more than you imagined in working with her.

Stephanie is very professional and easy to work with. I was considering having an engagement party for about 100 guests. I contacted 8 different caterers to discuss options. Chef Stephanie and far and away the best to work with. I ended up not having the party, but I will definitely contact Stephanie next time I have any need for a caterer.

Stephanie and her team did a very solid job for our wedding.  She was invaluable in the time leading up to the wedding, with a strong attention to detail, always on top of everything and gently pointing out things we needed to consider.  The tasting was great and she was receptive to our feedback about minor changes.  During the wedding itself, her staff did a great job helping prepare the venue and providing service throughout the evening.  As for the food itself, there was a drop-off in the flavor/quality from the tasting to our 75-person event; and we expected some of that.  If not for that, she would have gotten a perfect score.  The food was never bad, just not as good as we had hoped for based on the tasting.

I chanced upon Chef Stephanie via Yelp when helping my friends plan their wedding.. and I'm *really* glad I found her! From the first email with Stephanie, to the first phone call, to the first meeting, all the way to the very end, she was extremely professional and really played a major role in planning the entire event. She really is much more than just a Chef.. she's an event planner extraordinaire. Without Chef Stephanie, we would have been completely lost!!

I honestly have nothing but praise for this woman and her staff. On the day of the wedding, they were all very efficient, friendly, and helpful. The day could not have gone more smoothly thanks to them!! The food was to die for, and all the guests raved about it. Vegan potato salad, herbed grilled chicken, spiced nut-encrusted tilapia, butternut squash with lentils and avocado creme, quinoa tabouli, and fresh fruits for dessert. My mouth is watering just thinking about all that deliciousness, literally!

THANK YOU, Chef Stephanie, for alleviating all of our worries and taking care of us! You and your staff were absolutely amazing. I will definitely refer my friends to you if ever they need a caterer. You are the *best* thing I have ever found on Yelp!!!

Oops. just want to make sure my review shows up...Chef Stephanie was amazing, I hope I will be lucky enough to have another event in the area down the road so I can hire her again!  I ope this doesnt double post but I figured better to over do it than not share at all :-)

    My original post-
Chef Stephanie was awesome!!  She catered my wedding, and was just incredible at working with my budget while still creating beautiful and delicious food.  Food is a great passion of mine, so I couldn't handle the idea of having generic chicken and mushy vegetables at the wedding...my guests were blown away by the variety, the flavors, and the quality, which were readily apparent, and I appreciated that she did this with all local, sustainable, organic ingredients AND stayed in my modest budget!  She also was very sensitive to my brother with special needs and his dietary restrictions which was an added bonus.  Thank you Chef Stephanie for making my wedding food a hit!

Chef Stephanie - CHEFANIE - Culinary Mistress.

I thank the skies above and the Worlds below that Chefanie exists in the arts d' Cuisine. Chefanie is Zen; she is nutrition; she is food activist; her food is love; her ethics sustainable and her skill is pro.

While Stephanie modestly writes (below) that she is a "small event cater" (sorry, I had to laugh and wonder 'can I deduct a star for modesty?'), I've been lucky enough to enjoy Stephanie's cuisine at several SF "GREEN" functions including Pachamana, Breast Cancer Fund Heroes Tribute, Rain Forest Action Network (RAN) annual gala fundraiser and GREE NFEST.  Stephanie was Executive Chef for one of the Bay Area's most celebrated green caterers. Now she is cheffin' it on her own.. Kudos!!!

So, about the food...................Chefanie's vegan cumin-seed veggie crepe is a trademark (and published in magazines),
her cashew crme divine (mission hipsters would kill for recipe),
    and her homemade pickles legendary.....

I personally send a THANK YOU to Chefanie for creating the most beautiful and inspiring Wedding menu EVER ....and listening to 'us'! Our vision was created and delivered to perfection.  Our vegan dish (Wild Mushroom Ragout Stuffed Pumpkinette with Citrus Quinoa, Cranberries & Walnuts) was incredible. The Pumpkinseed Encrusted Halibut out-of-this world....and friends in Greece we're already talking about our braised Lamb chops by the time we arrived to Crete the next day ...And every time we seen them (which is a joy!).

This Culinary Mistress is amazing. I am including some photos as evidence....wish you could taste..

    We LOVE Chef Stephanie.

We contracted her to cater our wedding on 3 months notice.
Stephanie is very professional.  After a conference call with her, we realized that this woman is head and shoulders above the rest of the catering companies we contacted.

She met with us for a tasting privately in our home and we were absolutely blown away.  Vegan potato salad with cashew butter?!?  AMAZING!  And she was absolutely in tune to our budgetary and gastronomic needs (making small changes when necessary to accommodate a food allergy or two).

I just cannot say enough about her catering service.  Her staff is super classy and they were an absolute ray of sunshine at our wedding!  Total rockstars!  They were so happy to be there, it was like having a crew of your best friends serving the best food like clockwork.  You can really feel the synergy between Stephanie and her catering staff. Hire them by all means!

Stephanie also worked with our rental agency "Classic Party Rentals" to coordinate the final details, delivery and setup of our party.  She single handedly made the major parts of our wedding a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

I don't think I've ever had food this nice at a catered event... let alone a wedding.

As the manager of the Forest Hill Clubhouse, a San Francisco wedding venue in the Forest Hill neighborhood, I have had the pleasure of working with Chef Stephanie numerous times. She is extremely professional and organized and has a special talent in helping her clients design their personal "culinary experience" - be it more mainstream or rather ethnic in character, whether within a budget or without such constraints. Clients praise the quality of her food, her creativity, and the fact that she uses exclusively local, fresh ingredients. Every single one of my clients has so far been very happy with Stephanie's services and has recommended her widely. I am looking forward to many more events with her!

Let me start off by saying that I really like Chef Stephanie. She's professional, succinct, and creative with her menus.
She came over to do a trial tasting for us and cooked in our kitchen for $150 (which gets taken off your proposal if you book her). My now husband wanted to serve meat at out reception, but didn't want to shell out the big bucks. The meat option she chose was stringy, just a bad cut of meat, which was good info for us to know that what you get for certain money. We later decided on Tilapia instead.
The roasted potatoes were cooked to perfection, crispy and delicious.
The heirloom tomato salad wasn't made with heirlooms because she couldn't get them yet (or something like that? can't remember), but with substitute cherry tomatoes (or the like) and white balsamic vinegar, white beans, and basil, it was also tasty.
My favorite though during this trial run was the veggie option we would later serve at our reception. IPA Beer marinated tempeh skewers with an avocado-mango salsa. The way she cooked those tempeh skewers were beyond me. They were crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside and I beamed with delight, licking my plate. As a long-time lover of all things tempeh having lived in Asia and Indonesia for some time, I was happy to know a way to cook that obscure food item in the veggie diet.

We were pleased with the outcome, and again, with Chef Stephanie's price compared to the fancier catering shops, we decided to book her.

Fast forward to our wedding reception. Something shifted.

Now, I understand that cooking for two in their kitchen over a two hour period is a far different experience than cooking for 100 at a reception venue with a compromised kitchen space. But something went wrong.

Let me start by saying that Chef Stephanie was a gem in the planning period, always alleviating any stress I felt by working with our wedding coordinator directly and letting me off the hook in the nitty gritty details. I liked that professional courtesy.
But at the reception when the buffet was put out, I took one look at the tempeh, and just by viewing it on the platter, I knew it wasn't cooked. Where was the IPA marinade? The crunchy texture? I was bummed before I even took a bite. And once I did, the tempeh had that barely warm raw texture to it that turns most first-tempeh eaters off in a heartbeat. I took one bite and couldn't finish it. The salsa also didn't have the zing that i remembered from the tasting in our kitchen. The heirloom tomato salad became the next faux pas for me, the tomatoes were mushy and didn't taste like the heirlooms that October in San Francisco is known for, I also couldn't finish the salad.

To be honest, I was so disappointed that I couldn't bring myself back to taste the Tilapia.

I will say, her appetizers were fantastic. She was creative and I ate a lot of them (as our coordinator and friends made sure we got some). Thank god I did as I would have been starving come 9PM.

I wanted to like Chef Stephanie's food at our wedding, I just wondered if from our experience that maybe Chef Stephanice, albeit offers a great price, is probably best for a small wedding or dinner party rather than a wedding of 100 people or more. Also, I want to note that it could have been that our venue didn't have the kind of kitchen she needed to cook what she delivered at our tasting meal in our kitchen months before, but with her professionalism, I would have expected her to talk to us about that and perhaps tweak the menu accordingly? We would have been open to that conversation if it needed to happen. We also did have to rent for her a lot of her equipment, including an extra convection oven (something that other catering companies bring themselves, but also for a larger price), so we thought that was a nice service on our part, but apparently that didn't make the magic happen either.

One last thing. Chef Stephanie is raved for her staff. I liked the fact that one of her servers fetched me a glass of wine from the bar, that was sweet. But when one of our guests asked one of her servers what the tempeh dish was-what tempeh was specifically-he couldn't muster up an answer. I think I even heard him say, "I'm not sure?" and then kind of meandered away. I was bummed about that. I would have appreciated her staff knowing what she was serving. That's a simple 5-minute group meeting before you break to go kick-ass as her raved servers. They were kind, but that one detail threw my wannabe favorite dish even more out the window.

All said and done, Chef Stephanie was alright. I felt we got a great experience from her professionalism and her appetizers, but not so much from our reception meal. So I ended up chowing down on pizza at our after-party to make up for it.

    ***An update to this review***
Today, Chef Stephanie emailed me after reading this review and offered to refund us the full cost of the tempeh dish, which is a nice refund amount. That's good service.

How did I meet Chef Stephanie? I wonder.

She came over and taught my entire house how to cook from my housemate who is almost a professional chef to me who doesn't know a paring knife from a pear. We make her recipes all the time. They are so delicious and easy and storable and flexible and yummy and good for you. She is patient and fun and understanding and oh! I remember! I met her at Black and Blue Tattoo. I think. Probably. She's just that cool.

Had a 5 course dinner for four prepared for my wife's birthday and it was awesome! Chef Stephanie worked with me on the menu to create something unique and special. She was professional and the food was delicious! And she even cleaned up before she left which meant we could enjoy our time with our friends and not have a kitchen hangover to deal with the next day. Highly recommended!

I feel very lucky to have found Stephanie to cater my first Qigong Camp event in Santa Cruz mountains!
I never met her before the camp but the moment I read her resume and talked to her on the phone i already felt great about my choice.  This feeling was proved right over this past weekend.  Stephanie has such a passion about food and her cooking that she calls her cooking her "art".  You can feel the beauty and the loving energy from tasting her food for sure!  She did the whole weekend cooking show all by herself.  I was very impressed with her competency, efficiency and great organization.   I was totally relaxed about the food part and i was able to have all my energy focus on teaching.  Stephanie is also very fun and friendly person.  All my participants feel comfortable with her and loved her food.
I am very grateful for her nourishing heart and for her incredible sense of great food!  I highly recommend Stephanie to you if you are looking for a cater!

Yep, it's true. Stephanie is the real deal, guys.
You want her to cater your event. Why?

    1. She is SO professional. You know how I know? We knew we wanted to have her cater our wedding after a conference call. She's that impressive.
    2. She's amazing at figuring out what your needs are and how to put together a menu that will work for both the needs of your budget and the needs of your tummy.
    3. She's incredibly flexible. Believe me, that's one of those things you don't realize you need in spades until you have a 40% chance of rain two days before your wedding. She's a pro.
    4. She'll do a tasting for you in your own home! What? No way! [No. Really. Yeah way.]
    5. The food is amazing. [You thought I forgot, didn't you?] But really. When your picky eaters say, "What was that grain she used in the Tabbouleh? I liked that!" and you can say, "That's quinoa! It's tasty, isn't it?" you know you have a winner.
    6. Her staff, her staff, her staff, her staff. If she says to you, "I just need enough time to get my a-list staff," I assure you, sign on RIGHT THEN. I can't say enough wonderful things about all of them; they picked up where Stephanie left off and moreso. Seriously, such good people.
    7. She makes sure an event runs like clockwork. Like my wedding. Which was amazing, and due in large part to Stephanie and her amazing staff! See how that all came full circle there?

In summation: we'd work with Stephanie again in a heartbeat. There just isn't anyone else worth trying after getting the best of the best!

I contacted Chef Stephanie about a week and a half ago to talk to her about having a cooking party for my friend's 30th birthday. I had also spoken to 2 other chefs but chose Chef Stephanie in the end for her emphasis on locally grown, seasonal, organic foods. I also really liked her easy-going, straight forward demeanor and how flexible she was with the timing, working with me on the price, and the menu. She has great experience catering everything from huge events to intimate gatherings and had some really wonderful advice for planning the night (which was really helpful for me, since I hadn't done anything like this before).
The night of the party, Chef Stephanie made everyone feel at home and took the time to explain everything and answer all of our many questions. Together, we cooked 3 appetizers, a pasta entree, and a salad. Everything was delicious and we worked with ingredients like pumpkin seeds and butternut squash which celebrated the season.

I cannot stress how much fun it was to cook with Chef Stephanie and how easy she made everything. If I could, I'd have her at every event. The night could not have gone any better!

Stephanie's true gift, beyond a clear culinary vision, is her ability to LISTEN to her clients and translate their desires into reality. It was such a relief to have her as our caterer. We felt in perfectly solid care, and were able to let go of one aspect of the hectic wedding planning and really enjoy ourselves. She was not deterred by the somewhat remote location of our wedding, and brought a level of elegance to the event we had not anticipated, given the rustic surroundings. Did I mention the food? Simply divine, truly unique, and well balanced between my vegetarian and my husband's omnivore needs. I can't recommend her enough!

I recently hired Chef Stephanie to cook an intimate meal for my husband and I as a surprise for his birthday.  It was incredible!  She is so talented and very professional but still very approachable.  We loved the local fresh and organic foods that were prepared so flavorfully!  She was also able to work with my gluten/wheat-intolerance.  She clearly loves what she does and is passionate about fresh, organic food.  We will definitely hire her again for special occasions and dinner parties.  She's amazing!!!

I've eaten incarnations of Chef Stephanie's food on many occasions--mostly from when she was the executive chef for a catering company--which was pretty fancy, high-end hor dourves.  Many moons and a baby later, Stephanie was enlisted to bring me post partum food, and she delivered super-delicious, nutritious meals.  Each meal was well balanced, cooked, and seasoned: the portion sizes were also perfect, with enough food for two meals for me and my husband.  When I arrived home from the hospital with a new baby, I craved healthy, home cooked meals (eating out gets old very quickly), and that's where Chef Stephanie saved the day.  Besides being prepared thoughtfully and skillfully with organic ingredients, the meals were tailored to my personal taste; plus, she's a pleasure to work with: she's very professional with a discerning palate.
Now, if only I could figure out how to hire this woman full-time........

i found Chef S on Yelp based on all the fantastic reviews. She worked closely with me to organize a proposal dinner:  venue, flowers, candles, massages and of course a lovely, scrumptious dinner with all the food my fiance adores. And she put up with me suggesting changes to the menu every day for a few weeks.

chef stephanie recently catered a lunch at my house for approximately 40 people and she did a great job!  the hot passed appetizers were delicious - everyone was especially raving about the mushrooms stuffed with truffle-flavored white bean paste.  yum.  for the lunch buffet, she made two types of sandwiches that were great (one turkey with pesto and one roast beef).  she also made two salads - a quinoa salad with cucumbers that was very tasty, and a spinach salad with pecans and persimmons that was my favorite!  we had cupcakes and coffee for dessert and they were delicious, too.  throughout the event, my guests kept telling me how wonderful the food was - i was happy to take the credit, but all i did was pick the caterer!  stephanie is also friendly and fun, and the servers she had helping her were great, too.  i definitely recommend chef stephanie, and hope to use her again.  cheers!

I'll admit that Stephanie is a friend of mine. We, in fact, lived together in college, when she made nothing more than quesadillas. How far this woman has come!
Although we have been friends for years, I never had the occasion to hire her for an event. But I wanted to do something special for my 40th birthday, and treating my friends to a lovely dinner was what I decided upon. (I should mention that I am a personal chef myself, and we were a bit of a foodie crowd).
Stephanie did a fantastic dinner for 18 with local, seasonal organic food. From the passed appetizers (three of them, avocado-fruit ceviche on a cucumber chip, crostini with goat cheese and wild mushrooms, and veggie empanadas) to the salad course to the butternut squash soup with cashew cream (wow!) to the entree and chocolate decadence, every bite was delicious. My guests raved. Stephanie even did three different entree choices, a steak, an encrusted halibut and a lentil-beet medallion for the vegetarians. She and her server, Monique, were so helpful and professional, loading the dishwasher and washing whatever they could so cleanup for us was minimal. Stephanie thinks of everything; she even offered to go out the back when they left, so as not to disrupt the party carrying out all of her gear. They were both a pleasure to work with, and I only wish I could afford to hire them more often. As another reviewer said, Chef Stephanie rocks!

I have to give Chef Stephanie a mixed review.  I hired her to help with a house party for about 150 people.

On the plus side, Chef Stephanie was very responsive and professional.  She helped organize food, flowers, service, and rentals, taking a great deal of the pressure off of me.

On the down side, the experience ended with me feeling I had paid an extraordinary amount of money for the food that was delivered, and when the issue was raised after the party, no accommodation was offered.  I did not order food for 150 people.  Instead, I ordered food for the 40 people who I expected to come early wanting substantial appetizers since they would not have had dinner first.  For this, I paid $2,250.00; that amount is for the food alone; service and gratuity was on top of that (rentals and flowers and tax on top of that).  I would say that I was provided with about $500 worth of food or less, and nothing was left over when the caterers left.  The appetizers, while very good, were so tiny that people were standing around the table trying to make sandwiches by putting items together.  Also, the items were not prepared ahead of time (the caterer had two other gigs that day), so, for example, the thumb-print sized "beef sandwiches" had to put together, along with all the other tiny things, in the kitchen before they could be delivered to the table.  I don't think Chef Stephanie and her assistant had the abiltiy to put out $2,250 worth of food in the amount of time they were at my house, even if they had brought $2,250 worth of ingredients.  Thus, the mixed review.

Stephanie is incredible. She cooked meals in an outdoor kitchen on Coleman stoves for 80 people for two days. Plus, we were balancing all sorts of dietary restrictions. The meals were incredible. We were lucky enough to be camping on an organic farm that was providing us with incredible produce. Stephanie seamlessly incorporated all of these amazing foods into dishes that highlighted their inherent yumminess, and were also really creative. Plus, she is super easy to work with and sweet. I would highly recommend Stephanie to cater your next event. YUM!!!!!

I can't recommend Chef Stephanie highly enough. We hired her to cook for a private graduation dinner and the whole process from start to finish was smooth, easy, professional, and most importantly, out of this world delicious. Chef Stephanie charged reasonable rates with no hidden costs, was very flexible with the menu, arrived on time, was flexible during the event about starting dinner a little late, and left our kitchen spotless. The people she brought with her to serve were relaxed, cheerful, funny, and courteous. And her food - just unbelievable, out of this world, equal or better than what you would get served at a 5-star restaurant. 5-star service, 5-star food, what more could you want. She is definitely the only person I will call for our next event.

Chef Stephanie is a talented and charismatic chef.  I have been enjoying her tasty creations for 15 years!  She catered our wedding and created a fabulous menu and executed everything with perfection.  People still comment on how good the "vegan" food was and how much it opened them up to healthier cuisine.  I highly recommend this talented chef to anyone looking for delicious and healthy food done in a professional manner.

I had never hired a caterer before so I headed to Yelp to see what my choices may be for our NYE party. There were several folks I contacted and Stephanie was the most responsive and on-the-ball for me. I had procrastinated so I was surprised to be able to pull something together so quickly. She took the time to advise me on how to work with a caterer - how to plan for the amount of food, how to budget, how to trim the budget (sorry Stephanie!), what equipment to order, delivery and pick-up of said equipment - and never was impatient with all my stupid questions. My goal was to have her handle all the food, equipment and staff - including servers and a bartender. I did not want to think about that stuff at all. All I had to do was re-arrange and decorate the house to accommodate our 55 guests, and buy booze. I don't necessarily like to have parties (too stressful) but if they ran like this one did with Stephanie, I would be much more open to the idea. The food was wonderful - everyone raved. The servers were just as sweet as can be. The bartender was top notch too. I didn't provide him the most ideal conditions and he took it all in stride with not one single peep of a complaint. He stuck around with the bar several hours later than the rest of the crew and everyone just loved him. For an event I was positively dreading, Stephanie made it very enjoyable. Thanks Stephanie - I can highly recommend her and her crew for your next event.

Not only did Chef Stephanie create a delicious meal for us, she was cool as a cucumber when we had an unexpected electricity outage while she was preparing the meals.  I was impressed how calmly she came up with Option B to finish dishes over our gas stovetop.  Lucky for us, the electricity came back in time for her to use the oven.  Thanks for a delicious meal and a memorable evening.

A couple of weeks ago, my friends threw a birthday party for me and Chef Stephanie was the surprise gift!  She basically gave us a cooking lesson and we helped prepare some appetizers while using her cool chef tools and equipment.  While we enjoyed the fruits of our labor, Chef Stephanie continued to prepare our dinner.  All of the ingredients were fresh and local, which was really cool.  Chef Stephanie was very patient and informative and just made sure that my birthday was very special.  I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking to make an event extremely special.
