I've been here over 10 times and have never been disappointed with this Yucutan resto. In fact, it totally squashes the neighboring competition (Paquitos, Lime, Chipotle). Be sure to order the tacos al pastor and chicken flautas...amazing.
There's something to be said about the service here, too. The staff is extremely kind and warm. The ambiance feels very homey too, which is quite the feat as Cheen Huaye is located in strip-mall land.
As for dessert, we always walk through the shrubs/parking lot to Dippin' Dots. Ole!

This place is small and cute and I LOVE the food. Their lime soup is my favorite. I also really like their fire jalepeno poppers...verryyy good. This place is hard to find (and pronounce) but I love eating here and there food is always good and inexpensive. Great service as well.

I'm gonna have to disagree about this place. The first thing that tips you off to the generic nature is that they have a menu serving every type of mexican food from nachos and burritos to mole and fajitas. I much prefer a place that can specialize in a few excellent dishes and leave the rest by the wayside.
As usual, the recommendation from the waiter was churrasco. I got the "tacos mexicanos" instead. They were sort of boring and not cheap. My wife tried the mole . It tasted like it came straight out of a can. Bland and kind of yucky. Never trust a place that serves mole every day but doesn't recommend it.
I've been to Cheen Huaye about 10 times now. It's a small restaurant in a strip mall on the west side of Biscayne, near the courthouse.
I used to go to Paquitos but was kind of tired of their food, so I was looking for an alternative in North Miami.
To start off, Cheen Huaye has excellent consistency and food quality. The steak is tender and tasty; the vegetables are fresh and so are the tortillas.
Regarding the service, every time I have been at the restaurant, the owner has either served my table or come by to say hello. This is a great thing to see.
A few items I would recommend: tortillas & guacamole, peach sangria, skirt steak, grilled chicken...in fact, everything I've had is good.
Give it a try!

In a normal Mexican-food crazed city, this restaurant may not make much of an impression unless if it was a neighborhood joint. In Miami, this Mexican restaurant may be one of the best Mexican / Tex-Mex in the northern-eastern part of Miami-Dade.
It is much better than Paquito's nearby. A lot better. And for the same price or slightly cheaper.
The atmosphere is pretty nice inside - way much classier (and nicer, in my opinion) than tacky gaudy Paquito's. It's still is more of a indoor cafe than a dining establishment like Paquito's, but you can eat here with family, friends, and in groups.
Tortillas were fresh. Nacho chips were toasted just perfectly and ultra-thin (that's how I like them best). Steak was good. Service was fantastic (thank you Selene! She's a fabulous young waitress from Mexico City that works in the daytime). Prices were reasonable and everything is less than $10 during lunch time (even fajitas are in the menu for lunch).
Also, if you want dessert, I was recommended to try the banana-chocolate chimichanga - and I must say it was decent, made better with the strawberry coulis that was drizzled on the plate. I'm not that crazy for it.
Some advice though, for the restaurant. It would be nice if you had the option of giving el charro beans instead of refried beans to the customers. Also, the refried beans were a bit thin - but at least I'm hoping that's because there's less lard. The healthier, the better. The yellow rice, while better than those of the Mexican restaurants I've had in the northern part of the county, could still be improved.
But overall, the food here, including the dessert, puts this place a higher than the "average" Mexican in Miami-Dade, but overall it's pretty mediocre.
Great service, best mexican food I have so far in South Florida. The menu is very different given its Yucatan centric dishes. Prices are fair, and 2 Equis on the tab can be beat.
I especially like the ceviche, they have different special ceviches every day. They also have Dos Equis on tap which goes very well with their food. The tamales are excellent, as are the taco plates. However, I had some leftovers and asked for some pico de gallo and some guacamole to take home with my leftovers and they charged me $5 for two tiny little containers, which I thought was expensive. After all, I'd just paid $35 for the meal plus $7 tip - so you would think they could spare a little salsa and guacamole. On the whole it is very good indeed.
