This particular Cheddar's I have to say has always been quite good. On occasion they can be slow, but have to say one nite was there again and manager realized we had not yet been waited on on the patio and got a waiter right away.
Picked up and order of burgers to go last nite and they included every sauce we wanted and generous portions.
I will continue to be a regular here
My husband and I went to Cheddar's this weekend for a late lunch. When we walked in, there was no one ahead of us. Yet, because we required a high chair, we were told we'd have a ten minute wait. We sat down and waited. People from the UT game started trickling in. All were seated, no wait.
My husband started to get irritated. Finally, he stood up and asked the manager, "What's the problem? Can you explain why we have not been seated?" We were told that we were required to wait because we had to have a high chair and only certain areas/tables could be used. We were then immediately seated at a table that had been empty the entire time we were there waiting. Go figure.
So, why the five stars you ask????
Although that irritated me, we had the BEST waitress we've ever had at Cheddar's. Tia was her name. My husband ordered the lemon pepper grilled cat fish and I had the chicken alfredo. Tia took our order quickly and even asked about our daughter. She took the time to ensure that my baby had her own plate and her own water cup. (No other waiter has ever even asked.) She made sure to ask if I wanted the veggies that came in my order. I opted to have them on the side...no problem. Our order came out fast and everything was correct. She later came out with our checks and asked if we needed boxes. Yep! When she gave us our boxes, she had dated them. Also, she gave me extra alfredo sauce in a small container so that when I reheated the plate, my food would not be dry. Wow! Great service!!

I really enjoy eating here. The prices are really competitive and the food is always good. May I… Read more »
The wife called and told me we were going to Cheddars tonight. What on a Friday it will be very crowded. Don't care she said I want the GRILLED TILAPIA meal tonight. OK, I said Cheddars it is. We grabbed the relatives and headed out. Yep it was packed, 30 minute wait. We sit around watching other patrons, very interesting.
The hostess called our name and we were seated out waitress tonight was one of the best we have ever had at Cheddars, sometimes the service is not that good but tonight it was exceptional. Food was ordered and came quickly and drinks kept filling up with no asking, food was very good, I had chicken tenders, very tender tonight. Some times it is very moist and tender and others it is not, but tonight it was. They have lots of side dishes to choose from as well.
The food cost here is very reasonable we had 5 full meals and two orders of the Honey Butter Croissants and I had a strawberry iced tea. The cost only $55, very cheap in my book and the food is very good relatively. There is a full bar as well for those that want a beer or drink while they wait.
So my wife and the relatives give it the thumbs up, and so do I. So if you are in the mood for a good meal that is not over priced try Cheddars.
Would I go back? Yes!
Although the food is very good (I used to frequent Cheddar's), the service is atrocious. After waiting half an hour for a table, we were seated (we did expect to wait). After 10-15 minutes, someone finally came by to get our drink and food order. Another 10 minutes and we had our drinks with a promise our ordered salads and bread would be on their way. We wait another 15-20 minutes and the waitress brings our table of 4 two of our ordered salads (which was really one salad portion split in 2 bowls) and explains to us that they ran out of salad and they are baking more bread. By this time, all of our drinks were empty, so we requested refills. We'd been out golfing, so we were extremely thirsty and judging by how long we'd waited for 2 salads, we politely requested a second glass of water to hold us over in case we were abandoned again. 5-10 minutes later, the waitress comes back to slam down 8 glasses of water and refills our existing glasses, leaving us with a total of 12 glasses of water on a tiny table. So we ask to speak to a manager. The waitress asked us (in a very short and annoyed tone) if there was anything else she could get us. At that point, we'd had it and asked again for some food - bread, an appetizer, anything to eat. She walked off and the manager came over. We explained to the manager about our dissatisfaction with the slow service and lack of salad/bread. She told us that she was sorry (not very convincingly). When we complained about the waitress' behavior, she told us that we'd been rude to her (which we hadn't until she was rude to us) and basically implied that we were at fault and should just suck it up. At that point, we asked for our check (one of us ordered tea) so we could leave. I haven't been back since. Any restaurant that acts like serving their customers is an inconvenience and doesn't actually feed you and then complains when you ask for food is not the place for me.
This place sucks, but you get a ton of food and it's cheap. I've eaten here several times and the one item that is truly good is the chicken pot pie.
Ok, Chedders is a good place to eat, love it . For two reasons prices and food. Wow what a concept!!! The reason why someone would like a resturant is those two things. No wonder it there is always a wait there.
The best item on the menu is the Buffalo Chicken Wrap...wow it is also my crack rock (see wings n' more). Buff chicken with slaw and chedder cheese. Served with a side of ranch. Me boy...loves the Chkn pot pie...or as he refers to it "Chicgin Pop - Eye". Matter of fact that is what he calls Chedders. Chicgin Pop - Eye. So adorable at that age.
I agree that this chain would be in the same genre as Chili's and Applebee's; however, the difference is I really like this place. Also, everything is about 20%-25% cheaper here than at other similar chains. Even drinks are cheaper--the 18oz margaritas are $2.50 all day every day!
The food is just typical American fare, but they do a good job with it here, and they don't skimp on the portions. The chicken tender platter ($8) is awesome. The breading on the tenders is crisp and tasty, plus you get to choose 2 side items (I recommend broccoli-cheese casserole and fries). For under $5, I got a big hamburger topped with just the right amount of bacon, cheese, pickles, and bbq sauce. I don't know what all else was on that "smokehouse burger", but I LOVED it. In addition to being fresh, tasty, and well-assembled, my burger was really hot, too, which has not been my experience at Chili's or Waterloo.
The servers and hostesses seemed young, maybe in high school, and they looked happy, but they took their jobs seriously. I found our server efficient, friendly, and attentive. No complaints. I suspect this is a well-designed business and a well-managed store.
So I was a little wary, not going to lie - I had been to a Cheddar's before in the midwest and was not a fan. I mean, the name of the place is Cheddars!
But I was starving, wanted to see the game, and took a chance.
The bartender bowled me instantly over by serving the coldest Shiner Bock I've ever had (16oz!) They had only 4 beers on tap (Shiner Hef and two domestics) but quite a big drink selection otherwise - tons of frozen goodies and even a pomagrante martini (which my sister ordered - loved it).
I was one of only about 3 others in the bar area (this was a monday night, about 7) and they not only changed the music at my request (Jewel was not doing it for me), and then turned up the game too when it started.
The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, making suggestions, and stopping by to keep me company until my sister arrived.
So what really got me was the prices. I feel like you just can't get a burger for 4.99 anymore at a restaurant. And I ordered mine custom with hickory sauce, bacon, AND onion straws= still 4.99! Tasted great! At least, the portion i could actually get to fit in my mouth - it was huge. (Nothing on the menu was over 13.99 and that was the most expensive steak/shrimp entree.) Our bill was $32 and we got 2 huge beers, 2 martinis, my burger n fries, and a huge cheese fries appetizer (I'm talking like five pounds of fries, kinda disgusting).
This is an ideal place to go catch a game cuz it wont break the bank to hang out and drink for awhile, and the food is so inexpensive and good! Perfect for date too.
Unfortunately, we only have a very short time for lunches during the week. This means that we can't stray too far from Round Rock and if we do stray, the place must have extremely efficient service or we must be willing to pay the consequences when get our tardy selves back to work. Cheddar's is one place that always, always serves us in a very timely and professional manner.
There is a lunch time trick to this, however. When you walk through the double doors, immediately blaze past the hostess stand with a smile and a wave, and head for the bar on the left. I prefer to seat myself at the bar, because I know the bartenders at Cheddar's will hook us up. No, not with nice alcoholic beverages at lunchtime on a work day - even though they have tried, but with that previously mentioned speedy service. They are super friendly and after only a few trips will remember you and your strange dining habits.
If you happen to be going here for dinner and have a small party and don't have the patience to wait for a regular table (the waits can sometimes be long because this place is popular with the locals and is also located close to the movie theater), this trick will sometimes work. There are a few tables in the bar area that are set up as first come, first served. As a bonus, you get to people watch as everyone comes in and orders a drink while they are waiting for their normal type table to open up.
For lunch it is great to order the Ultimate Lunch Combo which includes your choice of three of the following items - Bowl of Soup, House Salad, Loaded Baked Potato, Half of Double Decker Club or a Caesar Salad. If you have more time to spare, consider ordering an appetizer like the Homemade Onion Rings or the Spinach Dip. Anything you ask for here will be consistently yummy.
Anyway, hope this lovely review helps you get a good meal and then get back to work on time. After all, you need to keep those paychecks coming so you can finance your dreams...
My husband and I totally randomly ended up here at 10:30 pm on a Friday night recently. We were hungry, headed home on 35, and voila. "Have you ever been there? That place is good..." my husband said.
"Let's go. I've been in Dallas. I liked it fine."
So we pull in. This place is hopping! No wait, but tons of people there hanging out, like THIS is their Friday night destination. I suddenly felt much more jazzed for Friday night. There were people drinking insane (goldfish bowl sized) 18 oz Margaritas (from 7pm to close) and all dressed to the nines. It must be quite the cool hangout or something.
Our server was attentive and friendly without going overboard. The food was delicious. My husband ate buffalo chicken strips with mashed potatoes and loved it. I had a veggie plate- carrots, salad, mashed potatoes and broccoli/cheese casserole. It also came with a totally delicious croissant that came out a minute after we placed our order.
I was surprised that I liked this place... but I liked this place. We'll be back. It was a good mix for my "flexitarian family" (one meat-eater and one vegetarian) and is open late. Good show!
I'm not a fan of Applebee's or Chili's by any means.... and I have restaurants lined up into different tiers.... Cheddar's falls in this category. I didn't expect much, but I did think it might be decent seeing as they had a fair looking menu.
I was honestly suprised.... I have driven here from South Austin on several occasions... and visited the other Cheddars (183 which I loathe)... and it has been worth it.
I really enjoy their happy hour strawberry margarita's and have heard good things about their other mixed drinks. When I am there, I try to either enjoy one of the steak specials or my favorite is the caesar pasta (last time I had them throw some spicy buffalo chicken strips on it)
The bread is very tasty but the service is the one thing that brings my score down a star. They seem to be pretty slow but at the same time they are usually pretty packed.
All in all, if your in the area, its a nice stop to make.
My wife loves their all day $3.50 margaritas, so we go there often. Food is okay. Last time we were there (this past sat) we were sitting at the bar. We saw the bartender making drinks and a wait staff person sipping a slightly overfilled drink before she went to serve it. It kinda grossed us out. After that we seemed to notice all the slightly unsanitary stuff going on behind the bar. Not so much that we would report it to the health dept. but enough that we won't sit at the bar any more!
Maybe because this reminds me of my college days -- but really, I love the food here more than I care to admit. Their grilled tilapia and mango salsa is so light yet tasty; mmm, their chicken fingers are seriously one of the best around. Chicken fried steak is pretty good, too. And their margaritas on special are *such* a good value, it's insane. I hate how long the waits are, but man, tasty food & good value makes it worth the occasional outing.
So my husband and I are new to the Austin area and have never even heard of Cheddar's till we moved here. So after reading a few reviews and looking at their website we decided to give them a try tonight. First off we were really surprised that at 7ish there wasn't a wait at all and were seated very quickly. Our waitress was very friendly and the chips and salsa were actually decent my husband hates chili's salsa although he loved Cheddar's. We were actually surprised at the portion to price ratio. We were expecting like a Chili's type vibe. Overall we thought it was really good food and really good portions.
So my dad is a big fan of Cheddars and their catfish, so him, my mom & I went to go have dinner. It was a Friday night @ 7:30pm, so having a 30minute wait wasn't bad, plus we were able to get a table in their patio area, so that definately helped having to stand around waiting. I liked the patio area because it would be a nice spot to meet up w/some friends and have some freshing & cold drinks. But I'd probably do it on a calmer and less busy night than Friday, or possibly different time of day/night. Once we got our table, they sat us in the cocktail area where the bar is at...this is when our night went a little sour. Biggest complain was all the freakin noise. I know its a Friday night and noise is going to carry, but the most annoying part of sitting in that area was constantly hearing, "Table for "insert name here", party of however many, Your table is ready. " over the intercom system. WIthin the first 10 minutes of sitting in that area, my mom got a headache, and I could feel mine coming as well. Now I've eaten at this location a couple of times, but have always been sat on the other side of the place, basically the sections that are not attached to the bar, and have never had as bad a problem with noise. I seriously think they should have all of the cocktail/bar area as "first come first serve" area, and not as a partial section to seat actual diners. Cuz as it was, I could not even hear my parents talking unless I was hanging halfway over the table leaning into them, no joke. So besides the extremely noisy environment, the food on the other hand was pretty good. I ordered the triple threat appetizer, that came w/beef nachos, chicken tenders, and potato skins. For $6 or $7, that plate was a heft meal, and great for the price. I couldn't even finish the plate, had some left over. My dad got the Tilapia w/Alexander sauce. That itself was really good. I had some of it along w/the rice, and I would prolly get that next time I go. So if you're ever stopping in, and not a fan of loud noise intruding in on your conversations, I'd request to the hostess to get seated in their dining areas far away from the bar and their intercom system as possible
