8 reviews for Charm City Cakes
Charm City Cakes was cool enough to be one of the sponsors of our 2009 PVSC scooter rally, which included a cake shaped like a treasure chest, complete with chocolate coin dubloons.
Now, I'm not gonna lie, every time I see that show I think it's all sizzle and no steak, as my old boss used to say (irritatingly). Turns out, not so. Lots of steak. And by steak I mean delectable cake - and plenty of sizzle too because that cake looked amazing.
The five stars is for their sponsorship, their yummy wears, the fact that there was enough for everyone, that they're down with a bunch of debauched scooterists and that Chef wears an Intelligentsia hat. Nice one, Charm City!
Pretty cool looking cake was made for the event I attended. I just happened to make the mistake of taking a bite of it. Um, that was the worst tasting cake I ever had! I found out what the price was and felt like throwing it through the window of this place.
Don't waste your money. If they are going to charge 5 times more than their surrounding competitors, at least make the cake taste a little better than stale cornbread. Note the other 5-star reviews here and the fact that they have never actually TASTED one of these cakes.
Great looking cakes. Amazing show. Taste pretty good. Insanely expensive. I think the reason some people hate the cakes is because they eat the fondant. This part is not tasty, and shouldn't be eaten! If you eat the actual cake part, its not bad. The main reason you would want a cake from them is if you want something fantastic looking, and difficult to make. And have a lot of spare cash lying around. Otherwise opt for the sheet cake from Costco. :-)
I am surprised that after the TV show and all the publicity that there aren't more reviews of Charm City and Mary Alice and the whole gang? I am only disappointed that we could not get them to do our PA wedding cake - we were still (barely) within their travel range but, alas, due to their MASS popularity they were already booked for our wedding date.
Everything looks great - and the flavors (white russian cake has chocolate vodka in the cake batter and kahlua in the buttercream frosting) sound marvy.
Can't wait to taste one.
And Jeff is a HOTTIE.
I've watched Chef Duff and Geoff create their art and cake magic! These one-of-a-kind cakes are out of this world, fabulous and tastes even better! These guys rock!!!
we got our wedding cake from duff and crew back before they got famous. the minimum cake price was much lower at the time, but the price increase is worth it. we had a beautiful cake that was delicious. we opted for blueberry muffin flavor and it was so good there was none left!!
I've been lucky enough to have attended four separate events featuring Charm City Cakes cake. I found the cakes to be not only amazing works of art, but tasty as well!
Before the show began, I found out about Charm City and went in for a tasting for my wedding cake. Duff sat down with us, drew out our design (several designs, actually), and discussed possible flavor and decor combinations. We left the bakery with a huge box of samples, got home, and pigged out. Everything was delicious. We ended up going with the Tiramisu, Bananas Foster and Amaretto flavors for the wedding cake, and Pear Spice for the Groom's cake. Duff and Mary Alice were a pleasure to work with. Very attentive to my various concerns, always called me back, emailed promptly, delivered the cake on time, etc. I loved my wedding cake. It looked spectacular and tasted even better. Some people dislike the cake...my best guess is that they love a light, spongy cake. Charm City is all about the dense, rich cake, with bold, sweet frostings. If that's not your style, then Charm City probably isn't for you. But if you want an amazing work of art, and a damn good tasting cake, you won't be disappointed.
