10 reviews for Charlie's Frog Pond
Everytime i come to Rochester, this is the place i have to eat at at least once. Im so sincerious...this is cooking that makes you feel like you're at someone's house and that house houses someone who can cook serious comfort food.
I've been here 3 times and here's what i've had so far:
1. The Hangover Omelette - hot peppers, onions, bacon and cheddar cheese. If you have a hangover from drinking at one of the many Park Ave bars/pubs/clubs...then take one of these in the morning and call your doctor if symptoms still persist, you alkie you. I mean a great combination in the hot peppers and bacon is to be had with this meal.
2. The Frog's Famous Frittata - Italian sausage, onions, peppers and potatoes. Can you conjure up anything else besides this perfect combination in Italian sausage and its friends!? soo good, sooo hearty and soo set up to make sure you leave "the pond" with a smile.
3. Chicken French with potatoes and bread. the chicken was breaded and served as a stand alone dish. the other mash and salad were separated. i think i clocked this meal at 7.5 minutes to full down scarfage.
overall i love the feel of a small diner b/c i know you cant go wrong in a small joint where everyone puts in love into the food. Keep doing what you doing Charlie...
Very good place for brunch and breakfast, very hearty and tasty, The place is a bit small and theres usually a wait during a busy weekend morning. One time they gave us the wrong dish but promptly offered the correct dish when we told them. Very friendly service.
I love breakfast, so naturally I come here on a Sunday afternoon to fight for a table. I usually order cinnamon french toast with caramelized brown sugar syrup and bananas. I probably gain 10lbs each time too, but I don't care! It is so yummy. The prices are good too.
It is a tiny restaurant with adorable decorations. Sitting outside in the summer is super-nice, and the employees are almost always friendly.
I rarely venture onto Park off in my quest for culinary delights. The restaurants are all popular due to location and clientele rather than important things like service, menu options, and tastiness of the food.
This morning a friend convinced me to go to Charlie's Frog Pond and it was great!.
The server was friendly and casual. The menu was extensive and decently priced. The decor was comfy and cute without being overdone.
This place is what trendy diners should strive to be.
I had the Eggs Benedict which I devoured before my friend had even had half of her sandwich. It was that good. My friend had the Turkey Rueben which they were nice enough to make for her at 9 am. It is her favorite menu item. Apparently the Fritatta is famously delicious, but I didn't try it because I was in the mood for poached eggs.
Sunday morning: Cinnamon french toast stuffed with cream cheese and topped with a mound of fruit. Enough for two and likely to do damage to your waistline if you eat it every weekend but it's so damn good. They have omelets and eggs about 30 ways among other specials like banana pancakes and breakfast burritos.
The service is what you'd expect from a breakfast place. The space is small and you can expect to wait for a table for breakfast but the bright yellow walls and interesting decor can perk you up even before you've had your coffee.
As a true Rochestarian, Charlie's Frog Pond is a local icon.
I have been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and I've never been disappointed.
You can get breakfast anytime and I've pretty much honed in on their hangover omelette. Yes. Hangover omelette - banana peppers, onions, and bacon (I sub ham in for the bacon). DELICIOUS! They also have a grilled cheese with ham that's pretty darn good, although Highland Park Diner wins that award for me.
For lunch and dinner you'll find the regular stuff on the menu, but go for the tasty specials on the chalkboard. Blackened catfish or some Cajun rubbed pork chop.
Finally, the pies are a MUST HAVE! I can't remember where they get them from, but I believe it is a local school. The pies are all these homemade ones that just melt in your mouth and don't forget to get it warmed!
The prices are so reasonable and the food so tasty. Grab a seat outside in the summer and get there early on the weekends otherwise you'll be waiting for some time, or just hop over next door to Jines if you can't wait any longer.
Have a burger, omelet or my favorite - $30 main courses for 1/2 the price. Their blackboard specials feature complex sauces and unusual preparations. Crowded but cozy, this is a neighborhood favorite. They have a wicked coconut cream pie.
This place turned out to be a great surprise the first time I went. My family was visiting and two of us got this mixed seafood grill they had on special with a fruit salsa. It was sort of a gable since this place REALLY doesn't seem like the place for seafood, but it turned out to be some of the best I've had in Rochester. It's hard to find good seafood here, my standards are set based on living close enough to water where you can get fresh stuff, which isn't the case here so it's usually pretty miserable. Definitely an oddity since they apparently can handle seafood without ruining it.
Odd but fun ambiance too.
I give Charlie's Frog Pond props for their mastery of eggs in all forms, for I am a lover of breakfast, and this is of the utmost importance to me! I also give them credit for having things to appeal to everyone - I had the whole family visiting one time, and all range of picky eaters from age 5 to 55 were pleased with the breakfast here. The Eggs Florentine especially kicked ass. Great food, but the place is tiny, so get a table while you can!
This is my favorite spot for a good, quick breakfast. The service is always quick and friendly, and the food is really good.
The omlettes and eggs are great - and they'll make any omlette combo you ask for, even if it's not on the menu. The pancakes are great also. My only food complaint is that the omlettes don't come with hash browns (just with toast).
Weekend breakfast can get very busy here, and since it's small there can be a wait. Also, there are only two booths (the front ones) that can take more than four people, so if you have a big group the wait can be really long. The other tables of 2 can be pushed together for large parties, but it's almost impossible to get enough tables of 2 to turn over at the same time to accommodate that.
Definitely a great little neighborhood spot!
