I been here many times since my first review and it's definitely gone backwards. Yes they still have a better than average tap selection but they don't change much and there's not much anymore as far as really unique beer on tap or in bottle for that fact. Same old same old...
The real deal is that the service that was once decent and friendly is now slow, disconnected and confused.
There was once some knowledge of the products they served (beer) but now that's all but gone - nobody really cares.
Oh, and on Friday and Saturday nights - the place is still full of idiots!

Finally a local place with a decent selection of taps! 40 taps with no Bud/Miller/Coors (although a… Read more »
Over priced small drinks from surly staff...we enjoyed one night here waaaaay back when it first opened, but since then, the place went downhill. We give it a miss.

I'm not a flat-biller-famous stars and straps-broho-accompanying kinda gal, so this place isnt my bag. If its not yours, then stay away. far away. The one time i went there, my $10 grey goose martini came in a plastic cup, and my friends and i got stared down by some bitchy skunk haired girl in a skin tank top. I dont know why either. I'm sure perfectly nice people go there, but its clientele is solely represented by team summers eve spilling out onto the sidewalk about midnight, if you get my swing.
Judging a book by its cover isnt fair, but neithers life.

There's a lot on tap here, but the service is terrible and the atmosphere even more so. The only good thing about this place is it forms a sort of bro-center-of-gravity that draws the -- ahem -- lesser cultured of the greater Redlands area to it and away from anywhere worth going to.
If you are sitting at home and have nothing to do but wait to die, try putting on a hat, some bronzer and wait to die here instead.

Ok here we go. This is usually one of two spots I go to when I'm in Redlands. This place can get very loud, especially with the awesome addition of the boxing game... where you can get a kick out of all these super bro guys trying to see who's more macho. That can lead to some good brawls when its crowded, friday/saturday.
There is also a high "reunion" factor if your from the area since a lot of locals hang out here.
The bartenders are pretty good at getting to everyone, which is a plus. There's a good selection of food and appetizers.
Good selection of beers on tap, but its pretty expensive at $6 or $7 per pint.
However they have one of my favorite restaurant meals, the Buffalo Chicken Pizza- so f-ing good.
So, I've never been a fan, and this really ain't my crowd, but last night my experience was truly terrible and solidified my original opinion. I waited tables for 10 years in restaurants and bars, and feel that I am normally extremely patient and understanding with waitstaff, but they just were TERRIBLE!
After catching some pizza with friends up the street, we decided to get a drink at Chuck's Nuts. It was Saturday night, but only about 7:30, and there were maybe ten people around the bar. We got ignored for at least 5 minutes while the bartender and cocktail waitress worked directly in front of us. No "hello," or "just a second" or "if you want to have a seat, she can serve you faster," nothing. When they did help us the bartender wrote down our drink order, and then still managed to screw up two of the drinks. I ordered a Boddington's, an Arrogant Bastard, a Newcastle, and a Tangeray and tonic. He gave me the first two, and then a Sierra Nevada, had to be reminded of the gin and tonic, and then gave us well gin. I decided not to worry about it, considering how long the drinks took us to get in the first place. But, it still plagues me, what the hell did he write anything down for if he was going to completely ignore his note? Did he need to prove to us that he could write? On top of that, my friend ordered a water to go with her drink, and he forgot that, and then, when reminded on 4 separate occassions, said, "Alright, in a minute," and forgot again. Mind you, there were only about 10 other people in the bar, and most of them already had a drink!
We took a seat, and upon sipping his gin and tonic, my boyfriend said it didn't taste right, and we realized that the tonic was flat, as if to add insult to injury. Two of my friends ordered a second drink from the cocktail waitress and she held their card for the tab. When they finished, and we were more than ready to go, it took 20 minutes for the chick to bring it back, and then she had charged two food items to their bill, which she had already run. She blamed the problem on a ridiculous sounding computer glitch that I didn't buy. On top of that, no one in the place knew how to void a charge, showing how little they know about their computer system. So, 20 additional minutes, and she wound up giving my friends the difference in cash.
Every step of the way, Charlie Jewell's sucked. They really put the balls in Chuck's Nuts! I wish I could take back our tip!!!

Nearly impossible to get a drink there sometimes. Why else would you go there? It's loud, no where to sit, nothing to do. I wish it was better because there aren't that many choices in Redlands.
I used to live in Redlands and would come in here once in a while. The only reason I gave it a star is because the hamburgers are ridiculously good. As a bar Chucks is absolutely terrible. If you enjoy expensive drinks, not being able to hear your own voice, fights, and lots of bro's then this bar is probably for you. If your a normal human being go somewhere else.
"Charlie's"
"Chuck's Nuts"
"The Jewel"
What don't the locals call this place?!
But a rose called by any other name smells just as sweet... Charlie Jewels remains one of my favorite bars in the area. In fact, if I have to name a personal "watering hole" - this would be it.
Catering to a younger crowd, Carlie Jewels is one of the "trendier" bars in downtown Redlands. It's still a fairly new establishment, compared to some of the other bars down the street, but judging by the crowd that fills the place every Friday and Saturday night this bar has already made its mark.
Speaking of the crowd - be prepared for it. It will be loud. It might get rowdy. But it should at least be interesting. The downside to it: all the noise. Paired with the music from the jukebox, you can bet on having to scream to be understood by anyone sitting farther than three inches of you. But what can you expect..? Music + people = noise.
Fridays and Saturdays are usually quite busy, especially after 11 o'clock. So if you like having a seat at the bar, come early! Once the evening gets rollin', it might be a challenge for you to wave down one of the bartenders. But don't despair. Most of the staff is really friendly and helpful.
Actually, the staff is one of the best features of this bar. After visiting the Jewell a couple of Saturdays in a row, the bartender knew that I liked to start my evening off with a Cosmo and that my friend preferred her Corona *without* the lime. So don't be a recluse - talk to the bartenders! Chat with them, joke around... They're great people and will reward you for your attentions by making sure your drinks are always taken care of.
And how's this for a recommendation: my bill has often been much smaller than it was supposed to be (sometimes 50% less!). Ah, the benefits of befriending the bartender...
The drinks can be a bit pricey, but at least this place has a descent selection of domestic and imported brews. Their mixed drinks - flavored martinis being my drink of choice - are also rather varied. I must have tried every one of their "house" martinis... And the Albino Cosmo is my favorite (though it must be a drag for the staff to make it, since they have to use white cranberry juice instead of the usual red).
Blue Skies is pretty tasty as well, but it leaves a strange aftertaste... So beware.
Side Note: "Small Town Girl" by Journey has somehow become a staple of this place. Every time I visit Charlie Jewels, someone requests this song from the jukebox at least once. At least once. Every.Time.

Not my cup of tea-even for pub food the food is, um, hard to comprehend, staff seems to dislike their jobs intensely, which carries over into how they treat customers-the atmosphere's a real downer. Blech.
Good food, a great selection of beers, and friendly bar staff make this the best bar in Redlands. If you are in Redlands and are looking for a beer, go here. Also, try the Hangar Orange Heff and Hangar IPA. They are brewed locally in Redlands and this is one of the only places that serves it. Both are excellent.
$5 a pint, but its the only place in Redlands that I know of that has Molson on tap. Now if I can only find some Labatts.

This is a trendy bar that I enjoy going to whenever I'm in the Redlands area. It has an excellent and large selection on tap ... including one of my new found favorites, Moosedrool. It's a nutty brown ale that finishes like a guiness. Bartenders are attentive so that's a plus. I'll have to come back and try the food (all $10 from pizza to burgers), but I'm sure the staple here is their Draft Beer (finally, a place with no miller or budweiser on tap) and Martinis.
