6 reviews for Charlie Horse and Spunk!
I'm a little biased, but Charlie Horse is great. Cheap strong drinks, smoking in the rear, and NO cover!
No cover for some kick-ass entertainment? Who cares if you got a little fake blood on you or hamburger meat or were offended by the number--NO COVER! Who cares if the drag queen fell off the stage or puked herself on the patio--NO COVER!
They have some brilliant performers there. But No-See-Um is by far the best!
WOOOHOOOOO!!!!! Looking for some fun? I got to be there when it all started. The Cinch bar is where it happens. One of the best shows I have seen. Charlie horse is a killer drag review, and Spunk is for those of us that just love the art of burlesque.
You could go to the Tranny Shack, but on Tuesday most of us are just looking forward to hump-day and looking to Friday to rear its happy head. The show brings in all kinds of people and to see the bar fill up at midnight just means your going to meet and drink with some interesting people. This has also become a staple of my existence and LOVE YOU Cinch for having all this great stuff in just one place!
Damm you Veronica G, you beat me to this review!!!!! ( insert shaking fist)
Charlie Horse (ahem, hoarse) is the best. Always a great time, I've been going for years and just had to say something because I only saw a few reviews. And yes no-see-um, you shameless self-promoting hussy, does "high concept" like no other.
I have to show the ladies (Anna Conda and Wynonna Juggs) some love. It's not fair that Trannyshack gets all attention and let's face it, most of us are more apt to go out on a Friday or Saturday night than a Tuesday (oh who am I kidding, it's just too far for me to walk there at midnight)
Fridays and Saturdays at The Cinch were already a little wild to begin with but now they've added Charlie Horse and Spunk! Charlie Horse is a fabulous drag revue and Spunk! is a burlesque show featuring gay boys and straight women with different themes every week. Past themes have included Sid and Nancy, The Dating Game, The Flintstones, etc. The spirit of the shows is quirky, unabashed fun. They're not as "polished" as say Trannyshack is but that's also part of the fun. There's something to be said about the host shouting in to the microphone,"well that f'ing sucked!" as she's downing another shot. The "girls" who show up to perform or spectate are always dressed to the nines so there is no need to worry about being "over the top". The crowd is made up of the regulars (the usual suspects), the performers and an increasing population of straight couples. Plus it's free! The shows usually start at around midnight or so (give or take). Go check these lovely performers out.
Charlie Horse is a punk rock masterpiece with a carnival flair. Music to make the little girls cry by Bearzbub and Dirty Knees! Different themes every week, cheap drinks, free entrance free popcorn and free spirts! Its very DIY and no one leaves unsatisfied! Please burn your SUV before arrival! Winner best Drag Show in SF Weekly and Bay Guardian 2007!
