Best Burger place in North Tahoe!
Wide array of burgers on the menu or just customize your own. Don't settle for fast food when you can get char broiled burgers here. Also yummy fries, and shakes!
Might be a little bit of a wait during peak hours but definitely a must-try!
FREE REFILLS FTW!
Hell ya.
For someone that hates grill marks, this place rocked my socks despite the burn lines.
My husband and I saw the Guinness sign from the road and, after months of stalking, we went in. Delicious. I had the gyro and my man had a burger with onion rings. We were both pleased. We really should have known this place rocked. There's always a bunch of people here.
This is not were you want to go on a romantic date. It's a dirty old rickety place. That said, this IS where you want to feed your face. Trust me. Like Eric B. said, it's one of the best places in the area.
After disc golf at Zephyr Cove this place sates the hunger like no other. Great burgers served a variety of ways. Plus they serve their onions just like I like them, thinly shaved. Milkshakes not to be believed. Awesome onion rings, everything cooked to order. Staff is always cool and friendly. They even have Guinness on tap.
If you only have one bacon double cheeseburger in your life, have it at The Char-Pit.
We decided to take a drive around the lake and were keeping an eye out for a good lunch spot.
An opinionated passenger started typing in "food" to the GPS to see where we should go, as we had not been around the lake and weren't sure what was good. Now only if the GPS could have Yelp ratings next to the options....*genius idea*
Well, while this annoying passenger was fumbling through the GPS, informing me of restaurants that we had either already passed, or were "20 feet ahead", I saw the sign for Char-Pit on the right hand side and thought, "That looks like a good burger stand!". I instructed the passenger to cut it out with the GPS; that we were going to Char-Pit. This did not stop him from hitting "Go!" on the GPS for a place he had already picked out, and as I'm pulling into Char-Pit, listening to the robotic English voice say, "Recalculating...proceed 20 feet, then turn Left".
Back on point, we stopped at Char-Pit. I had the Yankee Burger. It had lettuce, tomato and thousand island dressing. It was absolutely delicious. Probably the best burger that I have had in a while. The fries were delicious, and not too greasy at all. Outdoor seating was perfect. The dog enjoyed digging holes in their sand very much.
Overall, this is good food and a lovely way to spend your lunch while driving around Lake Tahoe on a beautiful day.
When God eats greasy food, he eats here.
We were happy to learn that the food here is not actually cooked in a pit - though that would have been okay anyway.
Fries: KILLER
Burgers: RIGHTEOUSLY CHARRED
Onion Rings: PERFECT
Root Beer Float: FLOAT-TACULAR
Cool place, the open grill was crazy, food everywhere, all kinds of smells, french fries all over the place, literally. Had a beer, and a pretty tasty chicken sandwich. Ate out back in the sand, wanted the portobello burger, but they were out, not a huge HAM burger fan. I liked the beer the best, wanted a PBR.. settled for a sierra nevada.
We ate here before heading back to the East Bay after an entire day of snowboarding. This truly is a hole-in-the-wall joint. The place is really small, I can imagine it getting very crowdy on some occasion. I ordered the fish and chips. They cook it very fresh. I'm a fries fan, and I give them props for their crispy fries. The fish was really good too. My sister got the clam po boy sandwich - really good! it had some kick to it. I think it was the chipotle sauce. Warning: if you eat inside you will come out smelling like you've been on the grill yourself coz of the smoke from their kitchen. One bad thing about this place. They need to fix the bathroom, we didn't get to use it because it was overflowing. Yuck. LOL!
We came across this place by accident a few years ago. I try to make it a point to return whenever I'm in the area. The place looks like it's been here forever and it seems a little worn at the edges. And it has that down home feel that I'm drawn to. And with a great burger and beer, what could be better? Well, the fries are good too.
Seating can be a little problematic, but once you have your table, it's a great place to hang out and watch the world go by. Service can be local quirky, but I have never had Travis H.'s experience.
After my latest visit here, I remarked, "I could never live within 5 miles of this place. The smell alone of burgers grilling would put me in a food coma." Whether you're a local or a tourist, this is the place to go to when you're in need of any kind of artery-clogging food for decent prices.
The burgers are great (I love the lightly toasted buns). My brother in law, who takes his milkshakes very seriously, had not one, but TWO of their milkshakes. That is an equivalent of Martha Stewart saying, "It's a good thing."
The Char-Pit has survived where others in Tahoe have failed because they provide consistently good food without being pretentious or catering to a certain crowd.
Very yummy burgers! I had the banana malt and the portion was small but very good!
We tried the Hawaiin burger and it was very good. Hole-in-the-wall sort of place but good food and friendly staff.
Perfect combo of greasy food, messy ribs, and cheap prices to satisfy hunger after long day of skiing. Special bonus points for the decks of cards that they have at the bar so you can play some drinking games while waiting for your food.
yum!. lots of different types of hamburgers cooked old school style. lots of smoke ice cream tokens yum
I heart the Char-Pit! It's a messy little whirlwind of a place, but oh-so lovable and the burgers are great. Seating is 99% outside at picnic tables, some of which have straw-hut-type canopies. Fries are thin, crispy and delicious. It can get pretty crowded on a hot summer Saturday. The folks that work there were very friendly despite the frantic pace they had to keep while we were there. Good, fun, cheap eats in North Shore!
My brother in law LOVES this place... It has good hamburgers and fried clams... always busy..thebest way I can describe it is a Dairy Queen like atmosphere only older with minus all the ice cream. I've enjoyed what I've eaten there.
This tiny little jewel has THE juiciest burgers ever. Service is fast and you can sit outside on a nice day and enjoy your monster burger. I do wish they could have added a little more salt to the fries, but we'd certainly come back.
After driving through snow on a twisty Highway 89 around Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay, the Char Pit gave our stomachs what gasoline does for our cars. A wide selection of burgers and other grub makes this place worth a visit if doing the loop around the lake. After grabbing some food, take a trip up Nevada Highway 431 from Incline Village to the vista point (about 3.5 miles), which offers views of the entire lake looking south.
Enjoy this bit of "old Tahoe" while you can. My wife and I just had lovely 1/4 pounders with cheese before a case of the flu caused a ridiculously abrupt ending to our X-country ski weekend. The joint is quiet in the wintertime, and intimidatingly crowded in the summer (we haven't ventured in). It's old, crusty and downright cold inside. The help is quirky and hilarious. The grillmeister was a young snowboard dude, and an equally young co-owner joined the crew, telling us how some local bad ass had broken in the night before to steal the tip jar. In any event, the burgers were awesome--not yuppified like the new school "have it your way" joints--just plain and simple and good. And the fries were perfectly crisp and thin. They needed a bit of salt, which we gladly added. For a quick "in n' out" (ok, pun intended!), Char Pit is highly recommended.
The name doesn't sound appealing and the place looks dingy...but this place saved my hunger. After a long wait at the Mexican place down the street, we decided to cancel our reservation and walk to the CharPit. The sour cream bacon burger was deelishus! My friends got the family order of BBQ ribs. There was so much food that no one had room in their stomachs to finish it. I love old burger joints.
good burgers & onion rings
They ahve a wide variety of burgers. I realyl enjoyed my the mushroom burger I had. Next on my list is the avacado bacon.
