Chappy's Louisiana Kitchen
3 reviews for Chappy's Louisiana Kitchen
I and a few friends wandered in here while looking for lunch and refreshment while we searched for the Dali Museum. It was either stop here or eat whichever one of us was killed by crankiness and heat first.
By this time we really didn't care what we ate as long as it wasn't too expensive and we definitely found the right place!! The stuffed shrimp appetizer was a little skimpy, only 4 shrimp, but the meals were a decent size--my crawfish po'boy was stuffed, as was the oyster po'boy someone else had. The seafood gumbo was very good if a little spicy for my taste, and looked pretty filling. It would have been nice if the waitress had given us a pitcher of water since we were drinking ours almost faster than she could re-pour, but she was sweet, although a little flighty.
This is one of the best in St. Pete. A little secret everyone should know about. Quaint. Great service. Great food. Oysters Rockefeller, Fried Oysters and Wings were all to die for, for appetizers. We also dined on Trolley Chicken, a grilled chicken with mushroom marsala. Delicious. The Ribeye steak was truly the best steak I have every put in my mouth. I loved everything. Crusty bread with garlic butter. So, I introduced myself to the owner, Jim, to give him my wonderful praises. He is a great guy! I the best dining experience out of all the restaurants I have been in since I moved to St. Pete 5 years ago at Chappys. I will become a regular... prices are great!! Cant wait to go back!!
We were drawn into Chappy's a couple days ago while wandering Central trying to figure out what we wanted for lunch. The hostess was outside and convinced us to come on in.
Chappy's is a fairly new establishment, and the hostess (as was our waitress) was still "new." She gave us some recommendations on the menu and talked with us during the calm (it was kind of an off-hour). There was some nice jazz background music setting the mood for a New Orleans-style establishment.
I ordered a lunch special - a salad and poboy sandwich for $9 (you could also do a sandwich and soup instead), and it was great. My mom had a sandwich and gumbo. I tasted the gumbo and it had really nice flavors. Their other soup option is a turtle soup, and they brought a small taste of it for my mom when she was a little puzzled.
The menu has a decent selection at reasonable prices - sandwiches, salads, seafood entrees, meat entrees. I heard good things about the crawfish spring rolls, but I don't eat swimmy things ;)
The only real reason I didn't give Chappy's a 5/5 is because our actual waitress was sort of MIA, but the hostess who took care of us was faaabulous!
