Chapala express is my favorite mexican restaurant in the tri. Excellent food and great service every time.
I have never had a bad experience at Chapala and have bought the salsa to take home because it's that good. -

Have ordered take out from them twice. Thought that the first time might have been a mistake..new guy in the kitchen or something. Because a few other people have said they like this restaurant we gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back again. The experience was the same.
Our experience: When we opened up the container and plated our food...seriously had 1/4 cup of beans and maybe 1/3 cup rice. The entrees were itty bitty and not flavored with much more than a ton of salt. The only saving grace is that the salsa is really, really good. I'll go back and buy the salsa on the side and that would be about it! In Richland, I think I'll stick with the trucks and make my own beans and rice or bite the bullet and drive to Pasco. -

I brought my sister here from Seattle when she came to visit. She wanted Mexican food and I looked up on Yelp. This was rated pretty high and we were in Richland. I've never even noticed this being on Lee as many times as I've driven passed it. We got our food to go. The wait wasn't more than 10 minutes. There were about 6 other people eating inside.
I forgot what we ordered but it was good. My sister wasn't thrilled with their tamales, but everything else was good. My sister's boyfriend, who happens to know what authentic Mexican food tastes like since his mother cooks it all the time, thought the food tasted pretty authentic. They gave us a bag of fresh chips with salsa too.
I've been back to order take out a few times now. It's always consistent and service is good. Their menu is massive. Their portions are massive. Well, at least for me anyway. -

Good variety of menu options, cheap, huge portions, fairly good (though I know those that are biased against it), speedy at lunch and they serve horchata.
I've never had a complaint. It's not the best I've ever had, but for cheap and fast and in walking distance of work, not bad at all. -

We've been going there for years -- good variety of food. If you can't find something you like, you're not trying very hard. Try some of the non-standards... Huevos Nopales, Carne Brava or the Veggie Burrito. Good people and fast!!!! Very kid friendly place.

One positive thing about this restaurant. I asked that I not be charged for one of their food items- waitress graciously gave me my money back. Speaking of back- I will NOT be back. This place is fast food and cheap. I got what I paid for. Two main entries for only 6.99???? Hmmm. I should have trusted my first instinct and politely left before ordering. Can't wait for ISLA BONITA to reopen. Might pay more, but I have NEVER sent food back from this family owned restaurant.

I adore this place. The food is quick to the table, the service is great, and I have never had a bad time in the 5 or 6 times I have been in before writing this review. I have a large family (7 of us) and that is the only drawback - their table sizes are fairly small.
My wife loves to go here for a secret lunch (and sometimes she finds me there doing the same thing!!) -

Oh Chapala, how do I love thee? Here's the deal: Mary doesn't really "crave" Mexican food, ya know, ever. But then, Chapala came along.
At Chapala, the menu options seem endless. I'll admit to getting the same exact meal nearly every time I go there - but then, it's perfect, so why would I change it?
The portions are big, the flavors are spot on, and the service is RIDICULOUSLY fast. As soon as you sit down, you're brought chips, salsa, and bean dip. Before you can even finish a few chips, your meal is placed before you on a steaming hot plate. I've only cleaned my plate there twice; all other times I need a to-go box.
This is a wonderful spot for a meal if you're pressed for time. If you want to slow things down, just enjoy the chips while your meal cools off in front of you. They offer margaritas and beer, and it's all extremely affordable.
If you're heading into Richland for business or pleasure, you really should check out Chapala Express, it won't disappoint :) -

Quick, easy service with great food!! How can a guy complain?

We've been to Chapala Express a couple of times. The first experience was mediocre because their shredded beef was generally intolerable due to over seasoning. The bright side was the fact that the beans and rice were acceptable.
The second time I decided to not get anything with shredded beef and the experience was much better. I'm a sucker for just a regular bean burrito and this place satisfied. Like I said, the beans and rice were good and the salsa comes in a neat little flask.
The prices are really good. I got a bean burrito with a taco and a side of rice and beans for about $5.75. Add a soda and it probably breaks $6.50, but that's a super deal for what you get.
The restaurant is small, which gives it a nice "cozy" atmosphere. All in all, I think this is a good place and worth going back to.Listed in: Hall of Awesome!!

OMG!! This is my fave Mexican place in town. Sooooo good and the food comes to you super quick. They always servce you bean dip, and super spicy salsa with your chips. I always ask for mild then I mix the 2 together...yum!! Seafood burrito is great, just a plain ol cheese enchilada is great too. The flavor is wonderful, price is even better. This place can get real crowded at noon so I suggest going for lunch at 1130 or wait til 1230.

So.. if you are used to the lighter-style mexican restaurants (think La Carta de Oaxaca in Seattle) this might seem like "meh - is this Azteca?" upon first entering as they have a lot of the heavier dishes on their extensive menu.
But I've got to say, the enchilada I had was delicious, the rice was delicious, the beans were delicious, the salsa - pretty hot - and delicious. The fajitas ordered by the folks next door, smelled heavenly. My husband takes me to all kinds of restaurants in his home town in Tucson and IMHO this place kicks his gold standard's (Mi Nidito's) butt. Can't wait to take him here! -

I have to give this joint some props. Their menu is hella extensive. Their food is darn tootin'. They have Mexican beers (with frosty mugs) & margaritas.
And they're fast! Within three chips, your food is generally rushed out to your table. Richland is no Pasco (the Mexican food Mecca), but Chapala Express is my pick for best Mexican restaurant in Richland.Listed in: My Tops For Tri-Cities Dining, Latin Flavor In Tri-Cities &…

Review from Oriana L.
Richland, WA
While I really like the concept & service of Chapala, the food didn't hit the mark for me. The chips were super thick and tasted stale although the salsa & bean dip were okay.
I got the enchiladas which are kind of the litmus test for Mexican food. When it came out, it was a bit overwhelming: huge and covered in super-processed cheese. While pretty typical, there was nothing special about the food or the proceeding stomach ache. That said, I've only been here once & would be willing to give it one more try... maybe the enchiladas weren't the way to go. -

I'm not sure why the reviews are so high. Maybe because it's relative to the rest of the food in Richland (which is nothing to write home about).
We ordered cheese enchiladas and pescado con mojo de ajo (tilapia). The beans and rice were your stereotypical oily orange colored rice and pasty refried pinto beans (from the can). The enchiladas were average as well as the fish.
What I agree with on the other reviews: prices are cheap and service is fast. I like the salsa which scored points with me. The corn tortillas were underwhelming (grocery store bulk variety). -

Visited 3/2011. Great lunch. Very fast but food is good. Hard to decide what to get due to large menu.

I am so sorry.
I forgot to review Chapala Express!
I loved going there. I went often in my almost 3 years of living there.
I always spoke Spanish and they understood me and responded bcak.
I love the food and a couple of the hot sauces! I usually ordered a combo plate with a taco an denchilada or quesadilla. Always had leftovers as the food is substantial and good sized plates!
Saludos! -

By the way Emily B., if you ask, they'll gladly refill you bean dip for you. Shame on you for the 4 star! -

Nothing fancy here, just really good food! Order at the counter, which I'm not a fan of but that went quick. Extensive menu, authentic food! Love the Mexican soda and you get salsa in a little carafe.

The service was great and the food was a happy surprise. Very fresh I had a chicken chimichanga and the shredded chicken was perfect. The chips seemed a little stale, but the excellent salsa helped

This place was surprisingly good. The service was quick, and the food was very good. Needless to say, you're not going to run out of menu options for a while. The price was great! I would eat here if I lived in the area.

I don't know how they manage it, but they consistently serve good food with very little wait time. As soon as you find a table after placing your order, one of their servers appears with water and chips with salsa and a bean dip. As one of the other posters stated, very often your meal appears before you're on to your fourth chip. Prices are great and the menu is extensive. Very good value for your money.

This is a really good restaurant, the food is served fast and the service is really good and you get an awful lot of food for your money, this is definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in the Tri-Cities area, I only wish I didn't live outside the Tri-Cities area otherwise I would come here at least once a week

Great food at a decent price! Order at the counter and they bring out the food in minutes. No wait staff during, but you don't really need it anyway. More food than i can eat at fast food price. Always loved this place for a quick lunch.
