7 reviews for Champps Penn's Landing
Not memorable by any means, but it was close to Citizens Bank Park if you tailgated for the WS game and didn't have a ticket. No way am I paying $75 to "guarantee" a spot in Chickie & Pete's, or pay a $30 cover just to get in. That's bull to the twelfth degree. So we came here. (they didn't consider it a "cover." what it actually was was that you had to pay $30 to get in, but you get a credit in there for $30. So you had to spend at least $30 while you were in there. still retarded nonetheless).
We had a 10 person party, so we didn't need anyone else in there (although, all the tables were filled - gametime, Game 3). It seemed like a normal place. There was a huge tv right next to where we sat, so that was nice. There were a few groups of younger looking people, which was odd. I thought it was some sort of law that you can't enter bar/restaurants without an adult after 10pm or something. I dunno, whatever.
Had the Champps club. It was good. They charge extra if you want fries instead of chips, which is stupid. A normal chain restaurant. Don't say I didn't warn you.
As a kid, I used to answer "fine" so much, my uncle would just ask me "what do you get when you go 35 miles an hour in a 25 zone?" I would stare back quizzically "A Fine"
so how do I rate Champps of Penn's landing? Fine.
this also goes for other Champps, except the dick head ratio in Marlton is much higher.
This place seated a party of 10 (drunk) people at 10:30 on a Saturday night instantly. They serve their full menu til 2 am on weekends. They changed the tv near our table to tennis at our request. The menu was big and everyone's food was tasty and came out pretty fast for how busy they were at the time. It's standard chain sports bar fare, but its super convenient to my house and I will probably end up there again.
I have no idea how this place makes money. It's in such an odd location. I came here to have lunch after draining myself in Ikea and Target. I had a salad with chicken in it and a coke because I'm not one for drinking and driving (look at me, I'm so rational).
It wasn't a bad salad but the place is huge and lifeless. I don't mean that in the awful chain restaurant way. I mean, the people here had no spirit. I can't imagine this place having fans of any kind.
Anyway, the food is okay. The beer looked like beer. No surprises. Most of the waitresses had stripper bodies.
We had lunch here today before wandering around Ikea. Anytime a restaurant says they'll make any burger with a veggie burger, I get excited. Finally, I feel like less of an outcast! I can have the bleu burger too! Except... here the waitress accidentally hit "turkey burger" when entering my order and also forgot that I'd upgraded to onion rings. Fortunately, she was apologetic and brought out the onion rings quickly while my veggie burger was being prepared. And... it was pretty good. My boyfriend's border burger was reportedly good as well. He liked having sports (golf) on the televisions; it's definitely something I could live without. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but if I'm hungry and stuck in big-box shopping land, it'll do.
Ok, sometimes I am just in the mood for a suburban experience without leaving the city. Champps sports bar is located in the parking lot of IKEA and Linen's-N-Things... how much more suburban can you get?! I have been here on several occasions and, every time, the food and drinks have been great but the service is AWFUL! It's as if they seat you and then just totally forget about you for a while. I almost have to wonder if it is part of the training or something because seriously every single time it has happened! I would love to "quit" this place, but the food is actually really good AND they just added a strawberry mojito to the drink menu AND you can watch all the UFC fights here on a billion TV's!
Champps gets a bad rap for being a chain franchise sports bar with typical pub food but it's a decent spot to go for quick, cheap and deep fried hangover/comfort food. It's also not a bad spot to have a beer and watch the game if that's your thing. Hoegarden and Flying Fish on tap alone warrants this establishment 3 stars from me. The food is anything else you'd see on the menu at a TGI Friday's, Ruby Tuesdays, Chili's, Applebees and the like. Nothing special in the least, but worth a now and then lunch visit.
