SCAM / CRIMINAL MOVING OPERATION!
SCAM / CRIMINAL MOVING OPERATION!
SCAM / CRIMINAL MOVING OPERATION!
SCAM / CRIMINAL MOVING OPERATION!
SCAM / CRIMINAL MOVING OPERATION!

This company is under investigation by the government. They are part of a ring of rogue movers within the bay area. They quote low prices but then inflate the price of your move by 500-1000 percent by using a metric ton of unnecessary packing materials. They will demand payment before they unload your possessions at the new location. If you don't pay their inflated rate they take your possessions and auction them off. If you complain, they'll laugh at you and mock you.

Trust me and fellow yelpers. Champions Movers is a nightmare- 1 star out of 5 is a compliment, and I would rate them negative 10 stars if yelp allowed me. And they are so pathetic that they come to yelp and give themselves 5-stars. That's how bad they are- the only people sad enough to review them positively are the employees, and obviously they are in on the scam. So be very weary of any 5-star yelps for this business (or shall I say, criminal enterprise).

Here are just a small portion of the things I experienced with Champions Movers:

1. Movers arrived 2 1/2 hours late, and began the move at 8.15 at night!
2. Salesman sold me two workers; they showed up with three.
3. Salesman claimed my heavy, marble objects would not incur extra fees- they charged me $550.00 extra on packaging fees.
4. The movers had to stop the move at 4AM when police showed up for noise violations. They said they would return at 9am the next day. They arrived at 2pm, but only having to BEG their dispatcher, BEN GOLDMAN.
5. A marble pillar on my bed 3 inches thick is cracked 100% through.
6. There are dents in my walls.
7. The back of my desk was ripped off because the movers did not disassemble it properly (nor did they ask if it was OK to do so).
8. When I told BEN about the damage to my furniture, he offered me two free passes to BenniHannas restaurant.
9. My original minimum quote? $207. A reasonable human would expect to end up paying $400... $500. My final bill was $1,359.00.
10. Despite many attempts, a manager nor owner ever contacted me during my horrible 2-day moving experience.

This company is awful! I had scheduled them for my move on 11/13/09. They showed up on time, and then proceeded to yell, harrass, and intimidate me to sign a contract that was in conflict with the emailed ageement. I refused to initial things which were blantly different (4 hour minimum as compared to the agreed upon 3 hr). The "foreman" became so angered by refusal to agree to sign the paperwork, that he grabbed the pen out of my hand and said "I'm not moving you" . He also used some deragatory words toward me. I'm convinced that he tried to bully me because i am a woman and was alone at the time.

When I called the dispatcher, he seemed rather unphased. He offered to move me later that afternoon. I declined because at that point, I was rather frightened by the tactics used by this company.

Simply terrible.  Believe the other reviewers, this is the worst moving outfit ever.  DO NOT USE.   We didn't consult yelp or the BBB...our mistake.

The movers arrived late without notice, demanded extra money in cash for moving items that might be breakable, harrassed us and demanded payment in cash prior to unloading our stuff.
After unloading the truck, 2 hours into a paid 3 hour move, the driver said that he had completed his "minimum job" as the truck was empty and left.  Our stuff is in piles in the garage.
We called the dispacher, who was apologietic, offered to come back and finish the job, only to never show.  This has happened three times, with assurances of having someone come back to complete the move, only to have no one show up, no one calls.

DO NOT USE.

Really this place is a 0 star! This is a terrible moving company... First they showed up at 5:30pm on a Saturday, when we requested an early morning move! They were unapologetic about their tardiness!
Then, they didn't speak any English so it was very difficult to communicate w/ them regarding the most simple requests! They will try to charge you for every little thing, i.e. wrapping up a box that YOU have already wrapped up!!! BEWARE! DO NOT USE THEM!

I feel like an idiot for failing to research moving companies better. I thought I was comparing apples to apples with quotes from different companies based on the hourly rates for 3 men. I was wrong. While the move itself wasn't horrible, when they left I felt cheated and tricked.

My original quote was around $1200, and I was willing to pay this without hesitation. I had gone to great lengths to make sure that EVERYTHING was packed in boxes and sealed up (hence, no need for any of their high-priced packing supplies). However, I was charged an extra $800 for packing fees, and when I gulped back air in astonishment, he "threw in" the bubble wrap and knocked off $150 in charges.

You see, this is where they "get you." Of the three men who showed up, two were hired part-time employees. They were a joy - sweet, helpful, very respectful. The third was the head honcho dude - not sweet, very curt. While the two sweet guys hefted and lifted and loaded, the head dude spent virtually his entire time wrapping up and packing up and racking up the extra charges in packing materials. While "normal" moving companies make liberal use out of moving blankets that they reuse over and over, there were none to be found with this company. He packed up everything using boxes and bubble wrap and rolls and rolls of tape (I won't even go into the environmental implications of this). He packed items that were already perfectly secure as is into larger boxes - I was thinking this was an effort at consolidation, but it was actually in an effort to charge us for larger boxes. Completely unnecessary and very costly.

There were some minor issues with damage to a couch, and they dinged up the walls pretty bad in some cases. I had no issues with them disassembling or assembling correctly. So did everything make it in one piece? Yes. Did I feel "good" about the move? Definitely not.

If you use this company, just be very very clear to them up front that they are NOT to pack anything without your explicit approval (no boxes, no bubble wrap, NOTHING), and if you approve, then ask for a specific price for what they are about to pack. You might think twice before approving a $50 packing job on a mirror that's worth $20.

Better yet, go with a company that will quote you an accurate price up front, rather than low balling the hourly rate, only to trick you into paying exorbitant fees for packing materials.

Update: My original posting was on 2/23. A five star review "coincidentally" showed up just a couple of days after mine. My review has mysteriously disappeared now THREE TIMES, so this is the fourth time I am reposting to make sure yelpers see this. Stay away.
