It is a decent location, seeing how it is surrounded by a Save-Mart, and restaurants. The coffee isnt all that bad, a decent selection of blends and roast to be only complimented wit panini sandwiches. There is free wi-fi much like the many other cafes within the city of Davis. The upside of this location is the fact that it isnt too popular meaning one has the ability to study and quickly find a table. And if you're hungry its only a short distance to Guads to get some food. In the end, I'll give it a rating of 3-Stars, because of the nonexistent cafe feel but it is a decent place to study or to relax.
The fact that the wireless is sometimes patchy only adds to the fact that you will get a lot, and I mean A LOT of work done here. Unlike other cafes, it's not that difficult to find a table here. The coffee is decent and the staff is super helpful. I have never heard french music here-only something that sounded like a cross between John Tesh and Yanni. Therefore, I recommend bringing a pair of headphones. I am giving this a four star rating because the cookies are stale, and the owner has horrible taste in music.
The location sucks big time, unless you live in that area. Their lattes taste funny and the inside reminds me of a hospital waiting room. But the service is good and they have free wireless (not that you'll ever find a table . .)

Most cafes have a particular atmosphere to them, due to the bustle of customers and the chitchat of the wait staff, the clink of drinks and the smell of coffee, all sorts of bits and pieces that make up the soul of a coffee shop. Chamonix has none of those, inside it's dead quite. It's creepy almost, everyone sits perfectly still, afraid to move lest the rustle of their clothes deafen the apparently super-sensitive hearing of the owner. That being said, it is a great place to study, seeing as nothing will disturb you. In Mishka's you have to fight to share a table with someone who only ends up being a long lost friend, and before you know it, you've spent three hours talking, and your Comparative Literature essay goes unwritten. Here, nothing will disturb your work.

Everyone that works here is somewhat good looking. So, it makes the food and environment all the better!
I love this place so much that my goal is to visit the town of Chamonix in France one day and say "Dans une ville de 60.000 gens au centre de la Californie, il y a un petit cafe qui s'appelle 'Chamonix' et j'y vais toujours! Cela vous plait, non? Oui!!" and see their reactions. It's just a matter of time so don't anyone try'n stop me! And don't try'n stop yourself from checkin' this place out because you'll quickly fall in love. Un morceau de la France a Davis!

i wish this place was bigger, than maybe there could be more places for students, and i wish the tables were bigger, but whatever. the wi-fi works fine and it's generally quiet, which i like. they play cute music - lots of french, amelie soundtrack, and frank sinatra. i also wish it was a little brighter. and my fave part is that they're open till midnight - fuck yes. a great place to study.
I like my coffee dark roasted and full with only ~ 1 tbsp of whole milk. I don't touch the macchiatos or latttes (too sweet) although I sometimes try my girlfriend's. But for what it's worth, I prefer Starbuck's coffee to this place. Even Davis CoHo coffee is better. The coffee here is usually lukewarm and thin on flavor, much more watery.
I honestly prefer smaller operations v. huge multination corporations (Starbucks) but this place really does not hold up when it comes to their regular coffee.
Plus you have to get used to the smell.
However I will give them credit for being open until midnight and having coffee, however lukewarm, available an hour after anywhere else in Davis.
They stay open till midnight, have free wireless, and a fair coffee selection. This place serves panini and salads and pastries, though I haven't tried them yet. Def. a good study location, if a bit cramped and small during major exam periods.
