Chamberlain's is a pretty decent fish place in Addison, but for the price I'd rather go to Oceanaire at the Galleria. I was impressed with the beautiful restaurant and gracious service at Chamberlain's. Our meal was terrific, but not breath taking.
I started my meal with the crab cakes. They were mostly crab with little filling. YUM! Sugar Bear started with a salad. It was good, but nothing remarkable. For our entrees, I had the scallops (of course) and the were outstanding, but not the best I've had anywhere. Sugar Bear got a steak (yes, red meat at the fish place) and he really enjoyed it. We shared a creme brulee for dessert and it was lovely, although not as glorious as the creme brulee at Kenny's up the street on Beltline.
This is a good place, but it will never be a restaurant I'll crave. I'm glad I had the experience of dining here, but I think there are better seafood places close by. I do want to check out Chamberlain's other restaurant on Beltline...the chophouse. Since the steak was so good at his fish place, I bet the steak place is wonderful.
For the price, I was expecting GREAT. But no, it was...average. Service was great, food was decent, but honestly you can get the same meal if not better at McCormicks and Schmicks.
We had the seabass, tilapia and flounder. The seabass was good, but for $33?! not that good.
I was staying at the Homewood Suites on this particular evening. Homewood offers a happy hour with free food and drinks. The breakfast I had in the morning wasn't bad so I figured I would look at the supper. Now the complimentary Budweiser was smooth and sweet but the supper, forget it; some breaded mystery chicken patty with pasty looking mashed potatoes and plastic gravy....forget it, time to pull out Plan B.
Plan B turned out to be the restaurant next door, Chamberlain's Fish Market and Grill. We went to the restaurant about 5:30 so the place was still fairly empty. The restaurant is definitely old school, dark wood, valet parking, hostess greating customers, subdued lighting and waiters wearing ties, white shirts and vests.
The menu featured seafood dishes and there was an extensive wine list with a number of wines being discounted. Kind of a fall clearing house for low cost wine. Wine is pretty much wasted on me, I have never been a wine connoisseur and never will be. People will rave about a wines notes and bouqet and my opinion will be "it tastes like dog piss"...but thats another story.
For some reason I was in the mood for shrimp tonight, so I ordered the Texas Fried Shrimp with Roasted Onion Mashed Potato and a Iceberg Lettuce Wedge Salad. My friend ordered the Grilled Redfish with Crawfish mashed pototoes and ordered jambalaya for a starter.
My iceburg lettuce wedge came first. The salad was a crisp lettuce wedge which appeared to be about a third of a head with bleu cheese dressing, bacon and bleu cheese crumbles and diced tomatoes. Every thing was fresh and good although it was really too big for me to handle, I ate about half of it. My friend prononunced his jambalaya excellent. It was a rich red ricey concoction with large pieces of sausage and shrimp. My entree was four of the largest pieces of fried shrimp I have ever seen, coated with a layer of crisp, crunch cornflake type of covering with cocktail sauce on the side. Frankly, while the shrimp made a great visual presentation, the meat and coating was rather tasteless and the cocktail sauce was bland. The potatoes had a bit of onion flavor to it, but was nothing spectactular. My friend thought his redfish was excellent, but his crawdad mashed potatoes tasted like regular mashed potatoes. It had an orange color, and he turned up one or two tiny pieces of meat, but otherwise he felt it tasted like regular mashed potatoes.
Now Chamberlains had nice atmosphere, the hostess and waitress were very pleasant and the Manager even stopped by to see how we were doing. So the experience itself was quite pleasant. But I felt the food was fairly ordinary and unexciting. It is a safe place to take your parents for a nice meal but definitely not an adventure in eating.
This was the 1st time I've ever been to Chamberlain's, so thats the main reason I am only giving it 4 starts. I had been on the search for my first entree of Cioppino (Hard to find in Dallas), and had several tips for places in the area, Chamberlain's being one of them.
I am now a fan of Cioppino and all its glory. Came with lobster, halibut, scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams, and i think a little sea bass all in a shrimp stock. Probably one of the best seafood meals i have ever had. It may have been a tad overcooked, but had TONS of flavor.
My date got the special of wood-fire grilled halibut on top of risotto and served with oven roasted asparagus, then topped with 2 jumbo grilled shrimp. She seemed to like it, but didnt try.
I will definitely be back and attempt to try something different; however, the cioppino was so good, it will take a magnificent effort to order something else. So look forward to a 5star rating later, but we will see.
Y U M M Y!!! We had a lovely meal here, food was amazing, wine list was interesting with some really fair prices on small vintages from all over.
The Seabass was divine. The crabcakes were primarily crab which was so refreshing. I was too full for dessert. However, the desserts I saw walking by the table looked fabulous!
Received this email promotion - 1/2 price steak & crab legs:
8oz filet mignon and alaskan king crab legs w/roasted onion mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was sooo good for $29.95. And it was for a good cause too....Samaratin Inn. Just donate 2 non perishable food items! It's only available to the 26th of April.
Tried lobster mac and cheese for the first time too. *thumbs up

Just ate here tonight as I'm in Dallas for work. We were looking for a relatively quick but quality meal, and weren't sure if Chamberlain's could deliver on the first. We decided to give it a try anyway, and were pleasantly surprised. We definitely weren't rushed, but we made it in and out in an hour.
For an appetizer we ordered the sushi plate. Since the menu said market price, we weren't sure what we were getting into. When it arrived, there were three huge pieces of California roll (real crab), 3 of spicy shrimp and asparagus, and a tuna tower (which we cut in half - we figured since its not a Japanese restaurant, knives were allowed). All three were delicious, and it was only $9.95!! You can't even get one average roll in Chicago for $10!!
For dinner, my coworker got the crab cakes, which were meaty and well seasoned, and came with asparagus. I ordered the halibut special - there was some sort of a crust and it was sitting atop lobster asparagus risotto and topped with a lemon creme sauce. It was flaky and light, but very satisfying.
No dessert for us, but our service was first rate and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Also, I saw some seasonal cocktails on the menu which looked pretty good. One downside, apparently you can still smoke at the bar in Texas, and many of the booths are situated close to the bar. Smoking = gross...
I've been here a few times, usually for a business lunch but on occasion for a dinner and never been bowled over. Good food, good service, but not stellar and I dont think deserving of the almost 5 stars it's been given.
Today's example: the glass panels in between the booths were smudged with fingerprints at 1130 am. I was seated at a table, so had a great vantage point of the booths lining the side wall and every glass panel was smudgy. They hadn't been open that long, and I dont imagine that many children are there putting fingerprints on everything, so I assume those smudges were from days and days of not having been wiped down. YUCK.
The service is always nice, but having good service is a requirement - you don't get stars for doing what you are supposed to do. (anyone seen the Chris Rock special?) You get stars for going the extra mile and making an impression. Making me want to tell my friends about you.
The food is good, but not stellar, although I will give them props for a good crabcake. However, presentation has a lot to be desired - I don't have any qualms about forking right into whatever is on my plate because it doesn't look like anyone went to any great trouble to make it beautiful.
Overall I'd say - good food, good service, but nothing worth making a special trip for. Rather go to Trulucks.
Everything seemed so good until I got home and had the worst cha cha cha in my life. I was on the toilet for probably a good hour as this fish dinner quickly digested through my intestines. It sounds gross, but this would have been 4 stars until that happened.
I am not a fan of the high priced for the average. If you are looking to impress a date and you want to hand over your wallet, make a reservation. I have had much better seafood and paid half the price.
Great service, excellent seafood and charity driven! I won their gift certificate for a silent auction benefiting Dallas' United Way at our company. Our waiter was friendly and went the extra mile to make us feel special!
I went with a couple friends after receiving a 25% coupon to dine here. The waitress was not too inviting, but nonetheless, she provided fairly quick, blunt service.
We ordered the Parmesan crusted haddock, the 22 oz. cowboy ribeye, and the sea bass. Sadly, with the title of some of the best seafood around, this one didn't come up to standards. Sure the food was good, but in comparison to any other upscale seafood dining experience, this one fell flat on its face.
The haddock was plain except for the crust of Parmesan that actually didn't blend too well with the lightness of the white fish. The asparagus risotto was runny and its sauce resembled something like a watery mac and cheese. Sea bass was the texture desired for any sea bass, but nothing was special here. Even the cream sauce was a tad bland. Now I know steak shouldn't need to be top-notch at a restaurant "steaking" its claim in fish, but with Chamberlain's reputation for also owning one of the better steakhouses in the area, they had better offer some awesome steak. Too bad the steak was surprisingly ordinary. The 22 oz. didn't do much but offer a lot of pretty good ribeye meat. Not much more here than a prime, well-cooked piece of steak. Sure it's all good and tasty, but without outstanding flavor, tenderness, or character, its just another steak.
All in all, a very disappointing experience, but I am still going to give it a 2... only because it was 25% off and it wasn't bad food.
Went here with the hubby on Valentines and had a great meal. I had the salmon with crab meat sprinkled over it and it was truly delicious and fresh. The asparagus and mashed potatoes was just okay. The bread was really good. My hubby had the steak and it was very good, but not nearly as awesome as my salmon.
So, basically if you want seafood, definitely come here, but everything else is okay or just pretty good.
The service was really good but our waiter was a little bit too, quirky(?).
Anyway, good place.
I love everything about this place. The food is spectacular, the wine selections are great, and the ambiance is nice. Excellent waiter service.
Richard Chamberlain is a very experienced chef in the Dallas area and knows seafood. The restaurant is situated back a little off of Beltline Road, but worth the look. You have to start with April's salad - a wonderful mixture of greens, bleu cheese, walnuts, and lemon vinegriette dressing. I had the halibut served over mashed potatoes, garlic sauteed spinach with mussels on the side with a creamy butter sauce. YUM! Loved the food and the service was really good. The prices are roughly $25-35 entree with a nice size portion. They have really good thin french fries also. Good selection of wine to choose also. Didn't have dessert - next time!!
Went on a business dinner and the food was good all the way around. We had the prawns (huge!!), salmon strips, and calamari which were all very good. Bread was excellent. Good selection on drinks/wine. Ciopinno (sp?) was excellent and the lemmon cake was quite good. Elegant surroundings and very personable and efficient service.
