Review from David K.
Los Altos, CA
I lived in Switzerland for several years, and I always thought it was a shame that all Swiss restaurants in the US seemed to be Fondue restaurants. That's like if all American restaurants only served glazed ham or something. But I digress.
I've been craving the Real Swiss food (including from the Italian-speaking region) since leaving Switzerland. After years of looking around, I finally found this place, and I was not at all disappointed.
Everything my family ordered tasted wonderful, home cooked, and authentic, from the Rosti to the Raclette to the soup and salads and even the coffee. The prices were good, and the service was great. I only wish it were closer to Los Altos! -

I had the Rosti con Salmone which is a potato pancake/hashbrown with smoked salmon on top and a dill sauce. Excellent.
The service is good, the older gentleman who I imagine is the owner also served us. They also had fondue but I did not try it. Recommended! -

One of the best Italian/Swiss restaurants in the area. I've been here three times and quite enjoyed their Caesar Salad, Veal Zurich, Rack of Lamb and Chicken Picatta (special).
FOOD: A minus to A
SERVICE: B plus to A minus
DECOR/AMBIANCE: B plus
Highly recommended if you enjoy this time of cuisine. -

I love this restaurant! The music, the decor. Alex's wife re-did it. I lived here years ago and had not been back for over five years. I had the seafood pasta -- oh my! so good! I also had the house salad -- Wunderbar! Everything was tasty and well-presented and Alex was a delight. I plan to go back next time I in the area.

I guess I should've known this place wasn't that good if i could make reservations for 14 ppl with less than a week notice. Since Town was booked all the way up until Christmas, I chose to have a company lunch here after seeing the decent reviews. However, Yelp was wrong this time...
The only dishes that were decent were the brushetta appetizer, antipasto plate, and bread pudding dessert. The main courses..were, for a lack of a better word, disgusting. I ordered the rotollo and was uber disappointed. I was imaging a canneloni (sp?) or manicotti type dish, but instead I got two blobs of meat, cheese, and spinach with a noodle wrapped around each of them. The taste was weird and also super dry. The presentation was also horrible (with the exception of the antipasto plate). They basically just plopped our meal down on a plate as if we were at a friend's house.
The owner was also a bit rude. I felt like our party was super rushed. I asked him to serve the desserts after we had our white elephant and he rolled his eyes at me and said "I guess..." He even had the nerve to ask us if we could give him another credit card since he "doesn't really want to use an AMEX."
Sorry, won't be back here any time soon. Yelpers BEWARE!Listed in: Please baby dont

If you don't consume alcohol, please be sure to ask which items are prepared with it before you order. Unfortunately I forgot to do this and ordered the fondue and wasn't able to eat it.

Review from Cindy C.
Our office catered from this place the other day. Before then, I've never heard of the place before, so was pretty excited to try something new and different.
First off, they ran late, and we were starving. While they did call to tell us they are running late, there wasn't much advanced notice.
Next, to the food. It was just, meh. A-ok, like the 3 star rating says.
We had...
Salad, typical.
Cold cut platter, some neat meats, but nothing unique.
Meatballs, which came in a weird sauce.
Crab cakes, which came in a very cheesy sauce and you couldn't really taste the crab.
Sandwiches, which I didn't try since another coworker said it was like eating giant pieces of bread with not much in the middle.
Chicken and rice... The chicken was cooked to fall off the bone... Not bad, but was seriously overcooked. Luckily they used only thigh meat and it was cooked in a stew so it wasn't dry. The rice went along fine.
All in all, was not memorable. Maybe the food is better eaten there? -

Nice neighborhood restaurant. Tried the rosti chicken which they said it was their most popular dish. Great synergies of hot, cold, crispy, crunchy and fresh to create such a great Swiss German dish. Tried their lasagna bolognese for lunch on a different occasion, very authentic.

Really good and authentic Italian/Swiss dishes at a fair price.
The decoration brings you in the Swiss atmosphere, and so does the service, on the dry side (the owner), just like some Swiss or Italians do it :)
But even then the service is good, so I will definitely be back (I would just for the food!). -

Came for a company lunch. An older gentleman greeted us (well sorta...). I don't know if its just the way he talks normally, but he came off very rude. It was as if he forgot what a customer was. Half the time, I felt like he was speaking down to me as if I was his son. He was pretty attentive, but was very pushy and not very considerate of the party there. The food was average, nothing special. I've driven by this place many times and wondered how the place was. *Yikes. Now I know...I'm glad it was on my company's tab and not mine.

I found Chalet Ticino on http://Restaurant.com when they were selling GC's for $2. I decided to give this place a try as I was intrigued by Swiss-Italian cuisine. The menu is quite extensive as they offer unique items like Swiss Potato Pancake, which is what caught my eye.
I would say the food was mediocre. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there and the gentleman who served us (who I believe is the owner) was quite rude and unfriendly.
I don't plan on coming back here. -

Came here for lunch with a coworker. We got there right at 12, I think...and there weren't anybody in the restaurant yet. Though it filled up half way through our meal...I'm not sure if you'd have to worry about lunch rush there...
I had the lunch special Chicken Paillard and my coworker had the rosti minus the chicken (which came with soup).
The Chicken Paillard was very tasty. it came with steamed broccoli and carrot sticks. the chicken's wrapped in puff pastry and sits on a bed of mushrooms with gravy. A perfect marriage of hearty and healthy. Of course i couldn't finish it (though I really wanted to keep eating)...I have this (well trained) habit of eating all my veggies first so I don't get full on carbs/meat. at the end of the meal I still have half of the chicken and some mushrooms left, and I was pretty full...My coworker also had leftovers (half of her plate i think)
The other stuff on the menu looked pretty good too. Not too pricey as I had thought it would be. I really wanna try to shrimps & crab cake next time! -

Haven't been here in 5-6 years but we popped in today for lunch after realizing that Tokie's wasn't open yet. It was much, much better than I remembered! My mom ordered the special Chicken Paillard, which I tasted and it was terrific. I had the shrimp and crabcake appetizer w/ minestrone soup -- all delicious. Our dining companion order the vegetable lasagna, which I learned is made to order. I cannot wait to come back very soon and try it myself! Warm berry dessert was the perfect ending.
Great food + dining outside = I've totally changed my mind about this place. Looking forward to coming back soon! -

We miss this restaurant! Used to live in Foster City and now are down in San Diego- always had a great time here and especially appreciated chatting with the owner, who was always very attentive to the customers and made sure we had everything we needed. He was also great at making suggestions.
Not sure what Gail's problem is, but maybe she isn't used to dealing with people who were born more than 10 minutes from her hometown- we always found the owner to be very polite.
Can't say we aren't loving the weather down here, but I lived in Switzerland years ago and miss getting my Swiss food "fix" at Chalet Ticino! -

So I'm writing this after 30 minutes of waiting for our bill. Can't say I ever wrote a review out of sheer boredom!
I'll say this. The food was good. Potato in the Rosti Salmon was nice and crispy. The veal Rosti was tasty too. Good sauce The ambiance is cute and romantic. I'd love to come back, but oh my... The service! So painfully slow!
It breaks my heart since this is truly a mom and pop shop that rises over others. A full house (about 60 people) is taken care of by the owner, a server, and three folks in the kitchen. They run around like crazy! Creating some defined roles and efficiencies may help.
That being said, I'd come back on a Sunday or similar 'off' day. -

The food here is very good and about 1/2 the price of eating at a restaurant in Switzerland, not to mention no need for a 10+ hour flight. This little restaurant seems very incongruous given the location in a strip mall in Foster City.
The owner is friendly and I had no complaints about my meal -- Rosti with chicken on a bed of salad. The salad on top of the Rosti was an interesting twist I had not had before. -

3.5 stars.
A very cute cozy restaurant with some special dishes I had never tried before such as the Swiss Potato Pancake . I am not an expert on Swiss cuisine but I liked what I ate here. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our water was being filled constantly. We were so comfortable that we didn't realize we were staying there way past their closing time. They waited politely and patiently to close the restaurant after we left.
Chalet Ticino serves food that is a bit different but safe. The ambiance is casual but a bit romantic. I would say it's a perfect place for a first date or a meet up place for friends who need some serious catch-ups. -

Despite all negative or not very good reviews, I have to say that I had a really pleasant experience with my family at this place.
It's not crowded at Sunday evening so it was a perfect time to go.
The owner was very nice to us. I have nothing to complain about him.
My wife and I had one appetizer (delicious plate with olives, salami, cheese, prosciutto and other stuff). After that we had cheese fondue for two people which included lots of siders. Her house salad and mine wedding soup were delicious. We had then a cheese fondue which we could not finish... Too good and too much. A chocolate fondue with assorted fruits is included and it was served right after - worked great as a dessert.
I even had a Swiss coffee - pretty strong and delicious.
All of this plus two drinks were around $50 which is a good deal if you have a $25 gift cars from http://restaurants.com :) -

Went here for lunch with my son. I ordered something that was like a large potato pancake with a chicken salad on top of it. It was pretty bad. The potato got soggy and didn't taste like it should have been coupled with a salad. We ordered garlic bread and it didn't come with our meal. Finally, just before we left, we got our garlic bread so took it home. My son got quite annoyed with our server because every time we asked for something (like napkin, water, iced tea, garlic bread), the waiter (maybe the owner) would say "of course" as if we were asking a stupid question. Just before we left, we overheard someone at another table complaining about the crab -- telling the server it was not fresh as stated on the menu but either fake or canned. They were really going at it when we left. The customer was quite annoyed. All in all, not a good experience.

I was looking for a dog friendly place for lunch in this area and so glad that yelp came through again. i was also curious about the swiss/italian/german influenced menu.
came here for lunch with hubbie, his brother and our pup. it was a bit cold but tolerable for outdoor seating in february. the inside seating area has a very quaint european vibe. the bathroom is a little convoluted to get to (through the kitchen) but is nice and clean.
the sourdough bread basket was fresh
the chopped vegetable salad is literally a plate of healthy hearty veggies with house dressing drizzled on top.
Rosti Abbondanza - i've never had a rosti before but i do like potato pancakes in general. it's topped with fresh salad, dressing and chicken covered with cheese. interesting combination of flavors which worked. it comes with choice of soup - minestrone or wedding soup - italian wedding soup is a favorite soup of mine and they make it well. it tastes homemade
the eggplant parmigiana is more like a lasagna and smothered in sauce - very hearty and good.
i definitely want to come back and try their fondues! -

Great little place. The owner, Alex, is very nice. They had the best crab cakes I have ever had. The special, Crispy Fettuccine was so fresh and delicious. My niece had the spaghetti and ate the whole thing. I definitely recommend this little gem of a place and I will be going back soon!

Review from Sandy C.
For sure a unique experience. The restaurant is fairly small, located in a neighborhood shopping center. It definitely has that "home" feeling, I'm not sure that's what they were going for (I think they were thinking fine dining).
I had lunch here and the food was so-so. I really enjoyed the Wedding soup, which had veggies and some sort of meat (sausage, maybe?). My main course was odd, it was strips of grilled chicken on top of what seemed like a salad (shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onions, avocados) on a bed of fried potatoes (sorta like hash browns) and then covered in this sauce. The taste was unique...I can't seem to find the words to describe it but unique is definitely true.
So overall, I'm not sure I'd go back but then again, I'm a big fan of foods with more of an Asian taste, so my opinion here is definitely distorted :/ -

This is only my second time in a real 'Swiss' eatery. The only downer I can think of is that I have been in town here for a few months and only just now found this place.
I walked in Solo on a Wed evening, around 6:20pm. There were two 3-tops currently eating. So, not too busy. I would say there are 12-14 tables max (including the back, but not outside). I was seated by the window in the front.
The waiter and probably owner (I have to believe) asked if I had been there before. On my negative he gave me a brief synopsis of their theme and cuisine. He described the three Swiss regions that influenced the food selection.
I chose the Table D'Hote 3 course selection.
First - Wedding Soup. Oh. My. Such goodness I have not tasted in a while. I have had Italian Wedding (small meatball) soup before, but this took the ribbon. Insanely good. Next time I will order an extra bowl for an appetizer. The sourdough bread that came with the meal was very good, I had two baskets total, and I am not a bread eater normally.
2nd - Pork tenderloin with an Apple gravy. Good stuff. I usually do not order pork but this dish was great. It had some apples on top which was a nice added flavor. The dish came with a side of smashed potatoes (a few lumps but I believe that is by design) that were good. Carrots and Brocolli rounded out the plate and were good.
3rd - The assistant waiter suggested the Spumoni Ice Cream. Very flavorful. I am not one for sweets but this was good, cleansed the palate nicely.
Wine - Chardonnay. 2009 from a Paso Robles winery. It went well with the meal, and was picked by the waiter/owner.
All in all a great dinner (total came to $34 with tip), I will be back weekly, if not several times a week. I aim to try their lunch menu. -

I really want to give this place more stars but I just can't do it - I just wasn't that satisfied with my food, it just wasn't good to me.
I got the penne pasta with grilled chicken and marinara sauce and it was nothing special. I didn't expect it to be the best pasta I've ever eaten but it's such a simple dish and I did expect it to taste better than the penne pasta I cook at home with prego sauce! (That tells you a lot about this dish.) There was like a thick marinara sauce on top of the pasta but then at the bottom of the plate was watery flavored tomato sauce. My friend got the vegetable lasagna and she said it was just okay. We did enjoy each others company and the service was really good but the food was boring.
I will be back to try out one of the fondue nights and some of that delicious looking bread pudding =D -

I had the beef lasagna and the swiss potato pancake for lunch.
I must agree that the Italian Wedding soup was decent, the freshly grated cheese melted nicely in it.
The beef lasagna wasn't quite what I expected. It seemed like they cooked the individual layers like pasta, layered them and poured their meat sauce all over it. I thought I was going to have some baked lasagna. You can tell they make the sauce themselves, it was very hearty and chunky with an earthy taste. Yes, an earthy taste, like soil. I thought it was okay, maybe a bit too much on the salty side. I like my meat sauce sweet and tangy.
The swiss potato pancake was really just hashbrowns fried in a circular shape, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and grilled chicken with (I believe) russian dressing. It reminded me of an open-face potato burrito. The potato pancake was nice and crispy.
I like their peppercorn grinder though. It was cool. (Ask for freshly ground pepper when you eat there.) Will I go back? It's hard to say, but I definitely won't be having the beef lasagna again! Just a preference of baked lasagna I guess!

for a moment in time, i felt as if i was transported to a cozy chalet at the foot of the swiss alps. serving swiss and italian fare, chalet ticino is a ringer for quality, quantity, and overall satisfaction.
their extensive menu offers many authentic and hearty dishes. we had the cheese fondue for two which is accompanied with your choice of soup or salad and a chocolate fondue for dessert.
the caesar salad was dressed perfectly, the croutons fresh and crunchy, and the parmesan cheese delicately shaved like a fresh fall of snow. the wedding soup was simply outstanding. there was a very rustic quality about the flavorful concoction of vegetables, sausage, and grain. so good in fact, that my husband did not want to share with me.
the main event was the cheese fondue. fresh cracked black pepper is stirred in the cheese table side. we dove right in with substantial chunks of bread, swirling it in the glorious mixture of melted cheese and wine. the alcohol content was quite high as i was feeling drunk after my 3rd chunk of bread. the fondue is also served with a potato rosti, likened to a hash brown or potato pancake. it was perfectly crisped and tasty and perhaps one of the best potato dishes i've ever had. we were so full but half a pot of cheese still remained. i was delighted when the owner packed it up for us and even gave us reheating instructions.
when the chocolate fondue arrived, i thought i was 2 bites away from food comatose. but to my surprise, the fruits and chocolate were refreshing and easy to eat. the chocolate fondue was a watery, thin consistancy. the fruits included oranges, apples, bananas, watermelon (a new fondue fruit for me), and strawberries. the highlight of the fondue was the little chunks of bread pudding we were alotted to dip in the chocolate. the bread pudding was AMAZING! the owner shared the ingredients with us and i fell in love.
chalet ticino's signature dessert is the swiss bread pudding. made with banana puree, vanilla sauce, and drizzled with chocolate, it is TO-DIE-FOR! i will most definitely be back for that luscious, dense yet light, perfectly sweet, dreamy bread pudding!Listed in: power lunch, mange bene - kaka forte

I follow the yelp recommendation and ordered the crisp roti potato pancake topped with smoked salmon. Unfortunately based on personal preference it was not anything spectacular as described by the other Yelpers and I thought it tasted like a more refined hash brown with smoked salmon on top. My other dinner company ordered the seafood linguine and he was not too impressed either.
The restaurant had a homey ambiance given that it is a small restaurant located in a strip mall. The owner of the restaurant was extremely friendly and he was definitely chatting it up with the customers and really providing great service.
Bottomline, the service and people are great and the food is average. -

This is a big Kudos to you Yelpers since we decided to check out Chalet Ticino based on all your reviews!!! Northern Italian/Swiss cuisine (cheese & chocolate fondue on the menu - YUM!) coupled with warm, hospitable service.
Not knowing what type of place this was, I called to see if we would need reservations, the man on the phone simply replied, "No, just come on by." As soon as we arrived he showed us to our table which had water & bread awaiting our arrival. "You are the one that called, yes?". In my mind that was already two stars for great service!
We shared one of the dinner specials (soup or salad, entree and dessert) which consisted of Italian Wedding Soup, Pork Tenderloin with Apple Compote and Spumoni ice cream for about $20. We also shared the antipasti plate (cheeses, meats, olive tapenade and avocados - ya that seemed odd to me too since avocado's aren't native to either Italy or Switzerland). Both items were delicious.
This place is a real gem in the middle of a strip mall. -

I went to school in Ticino so I was so surprised/excited to discover a Ticinese restaurant in the area!
The owner is a very friendly Swiss man who has done a great job making this restaurant have a charmingly Swiss ambiance and a great variety of both Swiss-German and Swiss-Italian food, except that they don't have pizza which is served in all restaurants in Ticino.
Food:
-Both the Wedding Soup and Minestrone were great
-Cesar salad was fresh and crisp but lettuce was a bit too watery
-Cheese Fondue was good but if you're new to fondue, the strong wine/liquor taste can be quite a shock. It comes with bread and rosti (just like hash browns)
-Chocolate fondue comes in a small bowl (which is fine because you'll be so full from the cheese fondue) with fruit and pieces of bread pudding which was also good
- Penne with Chicken and Marinara was just okay, nothing special that you couldn't make at home
- Veal Zurich wasn't available that day because the veal had just arrived, but they offered to serve it with porkloin which was great too. It comes with rosti and vegetables which was basically just huge peices of broccoli
This place is a great alternative to other fondue places such as the Melting Pot, especially if you don't want so many courses and prefer a variety of dishes to choose from. Also, $17.95 per person for a 2 person fondue dinner isn't bad. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes! -

My wife had a craving for some food that had sauce and also for some bread and butter. Thinking that we came over to Chalet Ticino, since we had yet to try it. I wasn't really expecting much from it but lets just say it was actually pretty good. My wife ordered the Rosti Abbondanza and I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana. The chicken in both dishes were cooked perfectly and was very juicy and succulent. The Abbondanza was a swiss potato pancake topped with a salad and chicken with parmesan cheese on it. It was pretty good. The minestrone soup that came with it was decent. The chicken parmigiana had a nice wine infused red tomato sauce and worked very well with the risotto that came with it. The cesar salad was also very tasty. If you are looking for Swiss/Italian inspired food, this would be a good place to come to.

We went to town on the menu. It all looked good and we ate way more than the two of us really needed.
The large antipasto platter was enough for four people. Loaded with meats, cheese, tomatoes and olives it was a great way to start.
The Italian wedding soup was outstanding.
I ordered the veal Zurich which was strips of veal sauteed in wine, potatoes and vegetables. The large quantity of veal was nice as was the flavor.
My mom ordered the bundener raclette which was gruyere cheese, sausages and potatoes. She liked it very much.
For dessert we shared the bread pudding. It was pretty good but not great.
The service by the owner was very nice. I'd rate this a 3.5 star experience rounded up to four stars. -

What a gem of a local restaurant. Pleasantly surprised last night. Sort of in the cut and not a place you'd stumble upon.
Prix fixe for $17.95
-salad or minestrone or italian wedding soup
-chicken piccata with fettuccine or pork loin, apple sauce brandy, mashed potatoes
-sorbet or spumoni
Ordered the crabcakes and shrimp in pesto sauce. Honestly, I was turned off because it was drenched in sauce. DOOOOOOOOD!!!! SAUCE WAS ON POINT. I was sopping it up with the bread and not a drop was left. Mmmmm, mmmm, delissshooosh.
Chicken piccata and fettuccine were perfect. Wedding soup had nice flavor. Honey didn't really like his veal marsala. Said it lacked salt and they didn't allow the wine to cook down. Wasn't bad, but it paled in comparison to my chicken. He was hovering over my dish the whole night and I surrendered it with about half left.
Table setting and furniture are a little cheesy, but if you can look past that, it's a super cute local place for a low key homey dinner. -

What a charming place! A bit of European sophistication in the heart of the peninsula, minus any stiffness or attitude. It's relaxed, but classy.
I organized a small business lunch to introduce two people to each other and was hoping for a place that would be quiet enough to hear each other talk, but I didn't want a "too fancy" place. Chalet Ticino fit the bill perfectly.
Food: 5 STARS. Two of us ordered the crisp rosti (potato pancake) topped with smoked salmon - a perfect lunch dish, accompanied by a lightly dressed house salad. Antipasti plate for my other guest looked lovely.
Value: 4 STARS. The bill was reasonable for the quality - 50-ish for 3 lunches, drinks and coffee. Not cheap, but given the pleasant surroundings, owner-managed service and proximity to work for us, I'd go back in a heart beat - for lunch or dinner.
Charming. Solid value. Cozy and cute without being too kitsch. (Despite the Swiss country decor, you won't feel like you're in a sickeningly sweet tea shoppe. It's restrained.)
Highly recommended.
