For my girl's second birthday party in DC, her family and I took her to this place because apparently it's a tradition for them that I didn't know about.

It's a pretty big place. We sat outside, which was really roomy. This spot is so big that, in order to use the bathroom you had to go into the main dining area inside which was a quarter of the way down the block. That was a real letdown because once you were inside you had to zig and zag and go down some stairs and then the john was crappy. Talk about anticlimactic.

Our hostess was nice and the waitress was really cool as we took forever waiting for all of our guests to arrive and hence, to order. They accommodated all six of us including an old man in a wheelchair and a baby and they were nice the whole time.

I ordered the turkey burger with sweet potato fries just like I do back home at Santa Fe Grill. The burger was amazing, tell ya that. But the fries were nothing like Fe Grill's. They were limp and soggy and just straight up wimps.

In the end, birthday girl ordered the mudpie with a candle in the middle to blow out. She and I shared it to keep from being fatties and let me tell you - this is one of my top 5 favorite desserts of all time and I keep track of these things. The coffee ice cream was delicious, the oreo crust was delicious if unusually tough to cut through and the chocolate coating was rock and roll.

I would go here anytime for a burger, mudpie and nice service.

Okay bye.

Their nachos are the bomb!
Good chili -
Sour Cream -
Guac -
Fresh Jalapenos -
Fresh tasting chips -

A big platter of these are a great way to start of an evening of free movie viewing (Thanks Yelp!).

The happy hour wine wasn't all that but the vodka tonic was. Drinks are cheap and most appetizers are half off. I've never had a chicken tender that tasted like it was cooked in funnel cake oil. I'm still not sure if that is a good thing or not. I'll have to go back for a second taste and make my final decision.

I'm not sure how it isn't metro friendly when the Friendship Heights station is one block away. If you have time there is plenty of shopping in the area so the money you save from a happy hour can be better spent on something like say a dress from Loehmann's.

I love this bar! This place is my cheers! The bartenders are the best and know me and my unique drink.

Great happy hour deals and apps! I love the chicken fingers. I get them grilled with buffalo sauce and ranch dressing on the side. I go all the time after work and always have a great time.

Kudos to Larry, Cameron, Beaver, Soup and Petey for being the best bartenders around!

4 stars for the prices only.  Cheap martinis and appetizers. The food is really hit or miss. The martinis certainly aren't like the Cheesecake Factory next door (CF martinis, while pricey, are a bit more elaborate) but if you're looking to get something simple and cheap without spending a lot, Chadwicks is the place to go. It's also open later than the other places in this area which is kind of nice.

I highly recommend their fruit cobbler as a dessert. It's made from fresh fruit and my favorite is the one with blackberries. The chocolate cake dessert was overly sugary in my opinion (though my friend didn't see a problem with it).

I thought that the buffalo wings weren't especially great. They weren't the worst I've had but I've definitely had much, much better.

Select bartenders may hit on you (two at least) if one shows up with girlfriends and sans guy. But they're friendly and can make for good conversation while your drunk friend rambles non-stop to the salt-shaker. Late night, the clientele is more on the seedy side. Or so I thought (my friend disagrees as she happens to be one of the late-nighters)...

NEVER try the wine. At least not the whites (didn't try the red). Tastes watered down and strange.

I wasn't a huge fan of Chadwicks, but the happy hour seems great and the service is friendly and impeccable.  I went for lunch to try one of their burgers and it was overdone.  It was hard and not flavorful, the bread was storebought, and the fries, well, how do you mess up french fries?  Also, the drink was way too small for what they charged.

I went on a Groupon and was very disappointed, and the location isn't great either unless you live downtown (not metro friendly).

One of the few options on the DC side of Friendship Heights, Chadwicks is a excellent burger and beer joint (this one no longer connected to the one in Georgetown or Old Town).  Despite being below grade (like an English basement), the long bank of windows on Wisconsin Ave give in a light and airy feel (almost fern-barish).  With a nice long bar, their dozen or so draft beer selection is decent, although I was very disappointed when they discontinued the Anchor Steam.  There's also a small outdoor seating area., so if you're shopping or catching a movie at Mazza Gallery and want something a little nicer the Booeymonger (not that there's anything wrong with that), skip the Cheesecake Factory and head here instead.

Nachos were good. Really good, in fact. The food, as a whole, was pretty reasonably priced, and my huge plate of nachos was like $7 even before the half off special, which I can't complain about. Beer, on the hand, was pretty much standard pricing for the area. Domestic shit beers were $4, Yeungling was $4.50, and so on. Bartenders were nice enough, but not really anything special (and seemingly kept our free case of beer from us). The place itself was pretty average - not a lot of character, and people just seemed to be there to get a drink or two after work just because it was the closest place. It is right across the street from the Metro provided you take the correct exit, which I did not. Also, using the bathroom involves going down a flight of stairs, and walking down a hallway. Kind of weird.

Yay for Thursday night $3 Coronas. The boy and I stopped by tonight after his volleyball game to get a quick drink and dinner. My monterrey chicken wrap was delicious, and of course a Corona makes any experience worthwhile.

We can't decide if it's just our luck or if all the servers truly are awkward because every time we stop by we end up with the strangest person waiting on us. Tonight's experience was complete with a 2 minute stare down after he came back to check and see how we were doing. We said things were great and then he just stood there and watched us eat. But when you just want to grab something quick and get a cheap beer...you can't complain.

I live up the street and really need to come here more often.  I've only ever been for dinner, and really need to hit the bar sometime.

Great beer specials during the week, and you can actually get good imports at a nice discount.  They make a mean burger, and some of the other sandwiches on the menu are pretty good too.  Prices are decent, and pretty much what I'd expect for your average American restaurant.

The service has generally been pretty good when I eat there, which is good, considering it's inside the District line, which seems to be the black hole of good service unless you're in a high dollar joint.

The feel here is pretty comfortable, and generally I've seen a mixed crowd of families, college kids, professional types, etc.  It's about the closest thing I've found to a neighborhood place that I feel comfortable in in Friendship Heights.  Even though I live closer to Clyde's, I'd rather walk here, since everything is just a little more relaxed, and is essentially a cheaper version of the same thing.

Before I even darkened its doors Chadwick's used to freak me out.
First of all, what the hell kind of a name for a bar is Chadwick's? Is this Dickensian London or what?

Secondly - it's downstairs, below the pavement. In a weird way it makes me think of the whole Morlocks and Eloi thing. Going downstairs is OK - but then being able to look up at the street is a bit weird.

Thirdly - for God's sake use a bloody apostrophe in your name. Is it your bar or are there lots of you? I need the punctuation to keep me sane on this.

So one night, I faced my fears and I went in.

Imagine my surprise - it's not a bad spot. Crazy clientele ( everyone's drunk and it's the last place serving drinks within a 3 mile radius). Efficient bar staff, a few people along the bar that merit further inspection. I don't want to say too much - go there late at night and sit at the bar and tell me who you think  the other patrons are and what they do for a living.

But that's not the best bit - the best bit is - behind the bar - there is a signed photograph of local hero Maureen Dowd.

So that was my night, (admittedly I had already been out and enjoyed myself immensely), but Chadwick's was a fine night-cap, a couple of beers, a burger, some phenomenal people watching and Maureen Dowd.

Is there a Maureen D in the house?

i want to say 3.5 stars, but once again..... yelp won't let me.

this is a fine neighborhood spot to hang out and have a good beer. they have many to choose from and the bartenders (over the years) always take care of you.

believe it or not, i think this place has the best crab cake sandwich in the area. it is mostly lump crab meat with very little filler. other than that, the place serves up the usual good pub grub kind of fare which is geared more to fill up the stomach than tantalize the palate.

but isn't that point for this kind of place? throw a burger down yer throat, drink a beer and enjoy.

I would often classify Chadwicks as a dumbed-down Clyde's, but with better food, cheaper prices, and far less "i'm the shit" attitude. Having gone to school at American, I used to go to Chadwicks pretty frequently - they have cheap beer almost every night of the week ($4 for a pint of anything good) and $5 goose martini's on certain nights - that's quite a deal considering most restaurants in this ritzy area charge at least double that. One downfall is the bartenders here - they are like 40-somethings who have been bartending "professionally" for years, and they can be kinda skeezy. Took my ex-girlfriend there and it was her birthday week and they told her to get on the bar and get her "birthday spanking." I was like "dude...you're 45, ugly, and you work at Chadwicks....are you kidding me?" She felt the same way (thankfully).

The food is good - excellent calamari, delicious salads, good sandwiches and a tasty brunch. All in all, I wish there was a chadwicks closer to where i live now (gallery place), as I could easily see it being my "neighborhood bar." Go for drinks or a bite, and enjoy not breaking the bank. Catch a flick at the theater afterwards and you're set.

I will go out of my way for their veggie roll up.  I don't know what is happening with that sauce you can dip it in, but it is a taste explosion in my mouth.  Their fries are good too, although I always feel guilty eating fries with a veggie dish (the healthfulness is completely negated).

Their happy hour is good, inexpensive rail drinks and beer.  It can get a little crowed and the layout of the place it odd, kind of like a maze with the different terraces and almost walking behind the bar to get to the bathroom, but it can be a lot of fun with a group of people or even just a pair.

I can't really speak for the rest of the menu cause I love that damn wrap so much! I also really like their potstickers.

The service is good, the last two waiters I've had have been really friendly and attentive.

This isn't haute cuisine but it is better than average bar food!

Chadwick's has 1/2 price appetizer (except shimp and squid) and $2-2.50 house wine and selected beer and drinks specials.

We had black bean chilli, potato skins, and wings, all at 1/2 price, and a couple of glasses of $2 house wine each. The food was decent, and certainly worth the bargain prices. My friend really liked the potato skins.

Thier Happy Hour: M-F, 4-7pm.

Drink Specials:
$2 House Red wine, House white wine, Budweiser, Miller Light, Coors Light and Rolling Rock. $2.50 Rail Drinks and Margaritas.

So, any suggestions for other Friendship Heights happy hours that feature specials on food?

I hate Clyde's.  I hate Chef Geoff's.  But I do secretly sort of like Chadwicks... a little bit.  I mean, it's not exquisite dining, but it's relaxing and they give you crayons to draw on the top-paper tablecloth.  Hehe... I adore leaving little masterpieces for the bus boys to admire.  I go here often with my housemates (we live so close) or my boyfriend when we want something more than Panera but less than say, Ruth's Chris.  They have a nice menu of good old American favorites and it reminds me of eating out at home in little B/Co, PA, Washington style.  Sandwiches, salads, junky appetizers, burgers, and some decent dinner specials are all offered.  Last time, i ordered the Chicken Virginia and was pleasantly surprised.  The chicken breast is topped with a pleasantly creamy sauce with a bit of crab meat and ham, which seems a little weird, but it was delicious.

Sidenote: No red bull & vodka at the bar... apparently.

I have been to the Old Town Alexandria location several times before, but I really enjoyed the outdoor seating at this location.  I had the crab cake sandwich.  It was a good one, with little to no breading that I noticed, all crab meat.  The pecan slaw was really tasty, made with a vinaigrette, not mayo.  My mom had the steak roll-up which she really enjoyed as well.  Overall a nice meal on a lovely summer evening.

Ordered the cheeseburger (medium well) with American cheese and added bacon and mushrooms to it, with onion rings as my side.  My burger came out medium RARE, was pretty tasty, but ain't no Shake Shack.  It came with a pretty good amount of bacon, but not quite enough mushrooms.  The onion rings were pretty good, but standard.

I'm honestly scared to attempt to review chadwicks because I love it so much it might take me forever to Yelp about it. This place is where I ate manyyyy meals during my under grad at AU, always affordable and always reliable- that is what I love about it. It is a "down to earth" Clydes- with a more extensive menu and friendlier wait staff.

Definitely Try: Vegetarian Mozzarella Wrap, Monterey Chicken Roll Up, Honey Dijon Salad, Fried Calamari, Crabcake Sandwhich, Cheeseburger, Steak Caesar Salad, Southwest Salad, Mudpie, Apple Pie--- some of my favorites

also they always have a great happy hour- reasonable specials, 1/2 priced apps and decent crowd- they also have a great brunch!

Love the menu. Love the crayon coloring. Love the fact that you could sit their forever...it's so cozy and real, LOVE chadwicks!

I prefer the Georgetown location, but this one is good for when you're shopping in Friendship Heights (NOT at creepy Mazza Gallerie!). It's pretty much a burger & french fries sort of place, which is fine by me. I did feel a little jaded after eating the egg roll here, but that's what I get for branching out. I also enjoy writing on the paper tablecloth, and I'm immature so I'm sure a lot of waiters have rolled their eyes at my "artwork."

Oh Chadwicks...what would I do without you? You stay open an hour later than the bars in MD. Chadwicks is that place that people rush to when the bars in Bethesda close at 1:30 -- it closes at 2:30. So many times I have jumped in a car and raced to Chadwicks (probably not the best idea) to have my last drink of the night while savoring the conversation with the other intoxicants that I just saw at Tommy Joe's. Yes, it's quite comical. The bartenders are always friendly and the bouncer is an old familiar face at the end of a not-so eventful evening.  This place is just an extension of  the Bethesda scene if you could call that a scene.

A nice local chain, a step down from Clyde's. I liked the woody ambiance, and paper/crayon tabletops, and my turkey burger. But, they took too long on diet coke refills, my caesar salad was ho-hum, and the bathrooms were surprisingly dumpy. With all that said, I would/will return.

We were looking at the GPS system.  We were looking for Pavilion Steak, but found this place instead.  After walking up and down the street, we were hungry coming off a 5+ hour plane ride, and 30 minute drive on our way to the hotel.  I ordered the Steak Pub medium style.  Overall, this place was a regular mixed American entree.  If you're hungry, eat there.  My steak was juicy, but as usual, when it gets a little cooler, it starts to get boring.

Believe it or not the baby back ribs here ROCK!!!  You would never suspect Chadwick's to have a smokin' full rack of baby back ribs.  So tender the meat falls right off (as a good rack does) and the bbq is just right...not too overwhelming, spicy, etc.  If my g-friend Carrie wasn't visiting me from NYC, I would not have shared a single bit of meat.

I came with some friends, but wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the chicken tenders and planned on stealing a little bit of everything from everyone else's plates (yes, I'm *that* friend).

The fries were alright, chicken virginia tasted good, but a little on the heavy side, and the reuben looked pretty.. erm, drippy is the only way to describe it. It smelled delicious though. For dessert, we had fruit cobbler and key lime pie with raspberry sauce.  Both were excellent.  The cobbler is made with seasonal fruits and it's a great comfort-food sort of choice.

The most disappointing part of the entire experience, though, was my chicken tenders. Personally, I think that screwing up chicken tenders really means something. It's pretty basic, and honestly, chicken tenders from the frozen foods section could taste better. Chicken tenders from the University of Maryland campus diner tasted better. McDonald's chicken-bits-and-gristle-cut-with-a-stocking-shape d-cookie-cutter-nuggets tasted better. The meat was dry and flavorless, and the breading didn't do anything for it because it too was dry and flavorless.

Anyway, everything else I had was pretty decent, so just minus some stars because I never thought it possible that a place that charges that much for chicken tenders could mess it up.

I am always super happy all around every time I go here- great food, simple classy decor, nice staff, and great happy hours. If you're looking for a beer and a burger with some friends on a weeknight or weekend sports game night, then this is your place. Plenty of seating at the bar so you're not lined up 5 rows back hoping someone will get up soon. The paper table cover and crayons are always fun to tide you over before youre food comes, but I'm sure that's meant for the kids anyways ;). The bar service was also great- they seem to have good coverage and they pay attention to you as quickly as they can regardless of the volume of people. It's good American food, but, and I agree with "Jed S." that's it's great bar food when you need to munch on something at happy hour time. Nice place to relax after a day of shopping in Friendship.

One of my favorite bar/restaurants in all of DC. Amazing bar food---the nachos are probably the greatest thing I've ever eaten in my life. Their amber ale is great---I'm pretty sure it's Dominion. Good ambiance---nice, but not too nice. The bartenders are great, too, and are very generous if you start a tab---go on a Tuesday or Friday when a guy named Soup is working behind the bar. You'll thank me afterwards.

I really love the outdoor seating at this restaurant.  Watching the people walk by on Wisconsin Ave. is very entertaining.  I have been to this location many times and I get the same thing every time: the burger and fries.  Whether you like cheese on your burger or not (I do not), it's definitely one of the best burgers in the city.  The portion size is just perfect and the fries are always nice and crispy.  The wait staff has always been friendly and super fast.  I used to eat there for lunch on a workday and was in and out in under an hour.  Their desserts are good as well.  This place is great to go for a fabulous inexpensive meal.
