Hands down, my favorite restaurant in DC.  Perfect for Happy Hour, with cheap drinks, half-priced appetizers, festive atmosphere and excellent staff. Even better for a nice celebration dinner - I've had many birthdays and anniversaries here since my AU days.  Good for date night, decent for groups.

When I can't get the chicken tenders or mozz sticks at half-price, I usually order crabcakes or one of the roll-ups with sweet potato fries - plenty of good food at a reasonable price for the neighborhood.  Love the Mud Pie.

There's a regular who looks like Jim Cantore.

I went here a few times as an AU student for dinners with visiting family. Great happy hour and pretty nice outdoor seating. The bartenders are great and there are lots of regulars.

The food is traditional American, and 1/2 priced apps during happy hour.

The mud pie is the best desert ever. The staff is friendly, and most of the same servers and bartenders I've seen as an undergrad still work there.

Have enjoyed this resturant a few times. Service is decent. They have a living social account but arent real sure how to use it. Also my staff and I went for happy hour once and I think our waitress tried to bamboozle us.

The lunch staff and service is good and the food is good as well.

Chadwicks is one of those places that I never really thought about when I lived in Upper NW DC, but always seemed back there. First, they have a good, affordable Sunday Brunch, which I feel is something really lacking in DC in general. I have also found it to be a good place to get a quiet low pressure beer with friends on any random night. Finally, they have excellent New England Clam Chowder. It is not as famous as The Cheese cake Factory or as glitzy as the places up Wisconsin Ave, but it is a really good place to have dinner, drinks, or brunch. Somehow, I know I'll be back there again.

Is it strange that this place kind of reminds me of a real life "Cheers" bar? The only serious problem with this comparison is that they definitely did not know my name.

Which is totally cool. No crocidilly tears here. I just got played a little bit when I pulled the "Do you remember me?" game with one of the bartenders who clearly did not.

I'm good though. I just brushed it off and sipped my whiskey. Probably should have ordered the whiskey straight though. Not because of the blow to me ego. That would never phase me because well....I really don't care.

In reality, I needed the whiskey straight because I could have never anticipated the discussion about sexual deviences that Fenny L and I had following the Elite event at PR at Partners. All I can say is that I was personally traumatized by that conversation, but I can confidently say that I've got a greater grasp of the perversions that surround us all.

So, no prob that I used to come here after I got off work at Comcast SportNet with fellow colleagues all of the time. The bartenders loved them some me back then but I was clearly just a flavor of the year. Either way you cut it, the bartenders are hilarious and if you establish some kind of repoire, they will always make sure you are well taken care of.

Other than that, the bar food is mediocre and the scene is pretty random and slightly awkward.

Normally I would give Chadwick's a 3-star, but I've got to give an extra .5 because although they don't remember me, I remember them and the way they treated regulars in the past. That additional .5 goes to the fact that Chadwick's is the closest bar to Bethesda open after Bethesda closes, so keep the party going a little longer just right over the DC line.

Otherwise, it's more or less your standard neighborhood bar.

Turkey burger, turkey burger, turkey burger. So I have a theory that this would be like a recreation of summoning Bloody Mary.... so if a turkey burger appears next to you right now.... um, that's mine.

But sadly that is the only thing worth coming here for. And fries were meh and so was the location for me. Buuuuuuuuuut turkey burger, turkey burger, turkey burger.

Way to turn my opinion of you around, Chadwicks.

I didn't mind having this little basement place in my neighborhood.  It was, I thought, a good place to grab a beer.

Boy and I came starving to a completely packed bar.  A server quickly assured us we could still have a table, even though it was close to 11:30 at night, and seated us with a smile.

And then our actual server came up to our table, threw menus at us, took our drink and food orders in a huff, smacked our plates in front of us, and looked at his watch in a corner while we ate.  I understood he wanted to leave, but first, we were seated when we specifically asked if it was too late.  Also, the waiter had several other tables who hadn't yet cashed out, so we were far from holding up his evening.

The food sucked except for the fries, but those were snatched from me before I was done eating them.

I paid fifty dollars for an awful meal and horrendous service.  I will never return.

I happen to be in DC on business and needed to find a decent sports type bar close to my Hotel on Wisconsin Ave.  After hearing of Chadwicks from coworkers and hotel staff I decided to give it a try. I was not dissapointed.
This long shaped restaurant had a great atmosphere and plenty of down to Earth people attending.  I wanted to have dinner instead of just bar food so I got a table with a nice view of a TV.  The service was great as the waitress was very attentive to my needs and always had a smile.  The Jameson steak was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection.  The best part was the prices for the food and drinks were very resonable and would invite a return trip.
Overall experience was a big positive as its nice to have good food with good service and Chadwicks delivers.

I wasn't very impressed.  I stopped in for a quick burger tonight.  It was just ok.  There are definitely a lot of places that make better burgers.  I sat at the bar and just felt uncomfortable the whole time.  The bartender wasn't very friendly to me, although he was super friendly and chatty to everyone else around me.  I didn't think I had offended him, but who knows.  And then there was apparently a leaking faucet behind the bar that caused a sizable puddle to form right where I was sitting.  The staff started wiping/mopping it up while I was in the middle of eating my burger.  No one said, "Excuse me," or anything to that effect, and they just continued to mop up the puddle the whole time I was eating.  I appreciate their responsiveness to the potential safety hazard created by the wet floor, but maybe they should have politely asked me to move or waited until I was finished.  Anyway, I finished up and got out of there as quickly as I could.  I had no desire to linger--I just felt like I was in the way and didn't feel welcome at all.  This was the first and last time I'll ever stop by here for a quick burger and beer.

Chadwick's is always delicious & a fun time.  My most  recent visit (7/8)
the star Strawberry Shortcake (seasonal dessert) rich dense poundcake infused w/strawberry flavor topped w/vanilla ice, fresh strawberry glaze, strawberries & whipped cream. Delicious!
Entree the Chadwick Club (turkey/ham & bacon on toasted white bread), the onion rings were crispy even dipped in barbque sauce.
This below ground eatery has a wonderful sunlight filled area looking out on busy wisconsin ave. the back of Chadwick's has a clubby/pub setting.

First time back in a long time the other night. It is my favorite stop when I come to DC. The Thursday night crowd seems every bit as fun and familiar as the other nights I have stopped in. The drinks were cold. The bar tenders were fun and attentive, and the food was good.
One question: They always seem to be busy, so why can't they upgrade those disgusting bathrooms!! Yuck!!

Chadwicks is my parents' go to place for a quick but hearty lunch or dinner. It's a bit dim inside, but it has a family and wholesome feel. I wouldn't say anything here is going to blow you away, but you'll definitely find something you're looking for on the menu. I'm actually a big fan of their nicoise salad and their grilled salmon salad. They also make a pretty decent burger, which is usually involving a pretty sweet deal, as well. Beer selection is pretty good, too.

I'd give this place a 3.5, but I'm bumping it up for sentimental value.

I've been to Chadwicks at least 80 times, so I feel as though I can review this thoroughly.

I've had a couple of different items on their menu... mostly at the bar... mostly when I've been drunk... mostly for free because I have 'connections.' Food has always been good, but it is bar food - just because Friendship Heights is a little ritzy with all its stores doesn't mean all the restaurants are going to be 5 star... it's across the street from Booeymonger's soo that's a sign.

The bartenders are not that creepy; in fact, I find them to be a lot of fun. If you are one of those types that prefers those lounges over by Dupont or M St with the bartenders who all look alike, are all named Kristoff or Sasha, and never look at you even when they are serving you a $14 bacardi & diet, then you will not like this place. The bartenders here like to talk, like to joke, and like to have fun. It's not fancy, and it's not classy.

As someone else mentioned, it's a great place to come especially if you're already in Bethesda (just head like 2 miles straight down Wisconsin) and it USED to be open until 3 (an hour later than most places in DC). Don't quote me, but I believe they close at 2 now... still a good place to come... especially if you feel like you are 3 seconds away from punching a frat boy at Union Jacks, Tommy Joes, or that other one that isn't important enough for me to remember the name of. but starts with a C.
-Disclaimer: if you are driving from Bethesda and were enjoying some drinks, there is a cop who sits on the left side of Wisconsin.. he may be harmless, though, as I have never seen him pull out onto the street... though 3 years I've been going to Chads, and he still makes an appearance every weekend.

The patrons are a definite mix. You will find yuppies and old weirdos sitting next to each other. I almost knocked out a guy  in a plaid blazer from like Boston who said he didn't like DC because there were too many poor people... but can't blame Chads on that. He deserved a punch just for wearing a plaid blazer. Oh and moccassins. Can you blame me?

The food is basic bar food here.  The sandwiches are good.  Nachos are excellent here.  Desserts are good, especially the cinnamon apple bread pudding.

Prices are good here.  They have $2.95 drinks until 7 p.m.

It does get crowded and loud inside, and it can be difficult to move around.  But overall this is a decent place, if you are looking for nothing fancy.

    Chadwicks is a nice find.

I had walked by Chadwicks many times over the years, but never found an excuse to go in. I finally decided to give it a try and found I enjoy it quite a bit.

Sometimes you don't want to cook at home, but also not go to a fancy restaurant. You also don't want to hit Subway or Quizno's. Sometimes you just want that reliable place where the food is good and the service is reliable. Chadwicks is like like that. Very good appetizers, and an attentive staff. I really enjoy sitting outside and indulging in some people watching from the patio. What hits the spot for me there is a salad they have with fresh mozarella cheese and grilled shrimp. I usually ask for the tomatoes to be subbed for some roasted red peppers, and it hits the spot for me.

If you are looking for that comfort zone, try Chadwicks. On nice days, the outside patio does fill up early.

Not a good first impression based on the quality of the food & the lukewarm client service.

I came here on a slow Sunday afternoon in search of the 49ers-Packers game and a good juicy burger.

    I got neither.

The bartender told me they didn't have an NFL package, which is unfortunate, but whatever right? I can get over it with good food.

I ordered a cheeseburger, with the usual "everything" on it & a medium-well patty. My "everything" (tomatoes, onion, lettuce) never came!

On top of that, I could almost swear that the burger was an old order because:

    a) it had previously-melted-but-not-melted-now cheddar cheese,
    b) the patty was slightly warm and therefore not cooked upon ordering, and
    c) the top bun was cold. Yes, cold.

    The fries were unimaginative.

The bartender was polite, but definitely terse and not welcoming. Let's just say I didn't have a burning desire to tip him majestically. Well, that and I only ordered water thanks to my cold.

I'm sure if I come back here a few more times, the law of averages will kick in and I will incidentally have a better impression of this place. But that would imply I have plans to come back. And I don't.

Note to the host: If you see a male party of one walk in on a Sunday with a San Francisco Giants cap on, it probably means he's into sports, which probably means you should ask him if he wants to sit at the bar and not in a dark corner of the restaurant, because he might want to enjoy some, you know, sports.

Note to the bartender: If I tell you that I'm looking for a game that started at 1:00 PM, and it's 3:00, don't try to convince me that the game probably starts at 4:00. I know, trust me.

On the bright side, it was about time for my first unfavorable Yelp review, eh?

When I was in high school the way you knew that a guy was *really* into you, was if he took you to Chadwick's for your first date.

Now, wiser, financially independent, and 20...ummm, I mean...many years later, I have finally come back to Chadwicks and I kinda want to ask my 15 year old self, WHAT THE HECK was I thinking?!

That said, Chadwicks is a decent, comfortable, "Cheers"-esque bar.  Despite being right across the street from the Mazza Gallerie, or being located in Chevy Chase/Friendship Heights, it's unpretenious and casual.  Almost dive-y, in a non-skeevy way.

It was after the Yelp's Pretty Party at PR at Partners (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) and I was waiting for Tara, Amanda and Matt +1 to finish cleaning up so I could buy them a drink or two.  As I was waiting, it occured to me that I just came in and plopped into a seat at the bar without looking around the restaurant in case they arrived before me (I had the worst time getting my car out of the shady shady shady parking garage - http://www.yelp.com/bi...), so I started to get up from my seat.  Immediately, the bartender came over and put napkins over my drinks so I wouldn't be roofied.  Aw!  As if my old decrepid butt would 1) get roofied and 2) succum to a roofie, considering that I no longer have blood running through my veins.  Still - in this day and age, I really appreciated that the bartender was looking out for me!

Soon after I did my check of the dining areas, when the gang showed up.  The bartender promptly poured drinks and mostly left us alone for the rest of the night.  Most importantly, he didn't interrupt our *highly* inappropriate conversation.

I'm rather glad to have rediscovered Chadwicks.  While it won't ever be my first go-to bar, I do have friends that live in the neighborhood, and it will be fun to go back for nostalgia's sake if nothing else.

One of a few places you can comfortably hang out anytime and any day in Friendship heights area. Customers are from well-dressed up professionals to so-casual-short/jean regulars/colleage students.. Diversity.

Bartenders are great. They make you feel like you are no-stranger and you can hang out with a glass of beer and some bar-snacks or burger.

Good HH. All appetizers (Except for calamari and shrimp) are half-off. I tried a few and my choice is nacho. Nothing special about potato skin. Sweet fries are good. $2 for side dish, $4 for a basket of it.

Bread pudding was VERY forgettable. In fact, it was more Bread (dry bread) than pudding. You can taste and feel the crust of bread slice..
Bread wanted to be pudding but seemed to be lost in process and turned into dark-wet-bread... for $5.50..
    - I would rather pay $.50 more to get a bucket of froyo from Booeymongers or a slice of real thing from cheesecake factory just cross the street.
I might come back for beer and sweet fries.

24 hours after work let out early due to Snowmageddon, and I was ready to bust out of my apartment. Fox 5 made itself useful by listing bars and restaurants that were still open, and as soon as I heard "Chadwicks" I was out the door. (After I had put on two more layers of pants and plastic bags over my socks, that is -- you know you sweat my winter style).

The bar was packed, the bartenders were cheerful, and the beers were flowing. 20 minutes into my visit and a beautiful bacon cheeseburger landed in front of me. Four friends, attentive service and two frozen margaritas later, all was right with the world. My bill was surprisingly low for spending a lovely three hours interacting with people and drinking/eating my heart out.

Thanks, Chad (can I call you that?) for making this unholy amount of frozen precipitation just a little easier to stomach.

The only reason I ended up here is because I was about to see a movie at the AMC across the street.  I met fellow yelper Monty C. at this neighborhood bar for a drink before the flick and then we grabbed some grub afterwards.
I have got to say, normally this place wouldn't stand out, except for a few things:
Nice and cheap happy hour drinks. Just $2.95 for rail drinks!
Very laid back, especially considering the neighborhood it is in.
They fry in canola oil, NOT "vegetable oil" (a pseudonym for soy-blend oils).
    They have turkey burgers!
And best of all--they have crayons at the table and paper tablecloths!

The post movie chow down and drawing contest was great, as was the waitress who didn't know how seriously to respond to requests for more crayons.  I enjoyed my spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips and I believe Monty C. enjoyed his turkey burger (seeing as how it didn't last very long!) -- I certainly enjoyed the bite I stole from it!!

Definitely a great spot before and after movies if you are in Friendship Heights neighborhood.

Average food  but would never go back. I had to take my three year old daughter to the mens restroom and it was appalling. Smelly, dirty and really run down. If they have a messy/dirty restroom what does the kitchen look like? Restaurants should copy what Great American Restaurant does - you would never see that with that chain.

I would often classify Chadwicks as a dumbed-down Clyde's, but with better food, cheaper prices, and far less "i'm the shit" attitude. Having gone to school at American, I used to go to Chadwicks pretty frequently - they have cheap beer almost every night of the week ($4 for a pint of anything good) and $5 goose martini's on certain nights - that's quite a deal considering most restaurants in this ritzy area charge at least double that. One downfall is the bartenders here - they are like 40-somethings who have been bartending "professionally" for years, and they can be kinda skeezy. Took my ex-girlfriend there and it was her birthday week and they told her to get on the bar and get her "birthday spanking." I was like "dude...you're 45, ugly, and you work at Chadwicks....are you kidding me?" She felt the same way (thankfully).

The food is good - excellent calamari, delicious salads, good sandwiches and a tasty brunch. All in all, I wish there was a chadwicks closer to where i live now (gallery place), as I could easily see it being my "neighborhood bar." Go for drinks or a bite, and enjoy not breaking the bank. Catch a flick at the theater afterwards and you're set.

    Their nachos are the bomb!
    Good chili -
    Sour Cream -
    Guac -
    Fresh Jalapenos -
    Fresh tasting chips -

A big platter of these are a great way to start of an evening of free movie viewing (Thanks Yelp!).

The happy hour wine wasn't all that but the vodka tonic was. Drinks are cheap and most appetizers are half off. I've never had a chicken tender that tasted like it was cooked in funnel cake oil. I'm still not sure if that is a good thing or not. I'll have to go back for a second taste and make my final decision.

I'm not sure how it isn't metro friendly when the Friendship Heights station is one block away. If you have time there is plenty of shopping in the area so the money you save from a happy hour can be better spent on something like say a dress from Loehmann's.

Yay for Thursday night $3 Coronas. The boy and I stopped by tonight after his volleyball game to get a quick drink and dinner. My monterrey chicken wrap was delicious, and of course a Corona makes any experience worthwhile.

We can't decide if it's just our luck or if all the servers truly are awkward because every time we stop by we end up with the strangest person waiting on us. Tonight's experience was complete with a 2 minute stare down after he came back to check and see how we were doing. We said things were great and then he just stood there and watched us eat. But when you just want to grab something quick and get a cheap beer...you can't complain.

Chadwicks was ok.  If you're looking for something special, I'd keep looking.  It could be a good place for your run-of-the-mill drink after work (they do have Yuengling, which is a favorite of mine).

I had the grilled salmon salad, which was decent, but nothing special.  Our waiter was alright, not very quick but didn't make any big mistakes.

Not much ambience to speak of.  You walk in, and can be seated inside or in the "patio" which is like a room with a big window so you can see out.  It felt like a basement to be honest.  Air conditioning was cool, and it felt kind of like the basement apartment I used to rent.

All in all, not that memorable, as you can tell from the review.

I live up the street and really need to come here more often.  I've only ever been for dinner, and really need to hit the bar sometime.

Great beer specials during the week, and you can actually get good imports at a nice discount.  They make a mean burger, and some of the other sandwiches on the menu are pretty good too.  Prices are decent, and pretty much what I'd expect for your average American restaurant.

The service has generally been pretty good when I eat there, which is good, considering it's inside the District line, which seems to be the black hole of good service unless you're in a high dollar joint.

The feel here is pretty comfortable, and generally I've seen a mixed crowd of families, college kids, professional types, etc.  It's about the closest thing I've found to a neighborhood place that I feel comfortable in in Friendship Heights.  Even though I live closer to Clyde's, I'd rather walk here, since everything is just a little more relaxed, and is essentially a cheaper version of the same thing.

I've been there twice recently and would rate it a solid 3 stars = A-OK.  Nothing extraordinary or fabulous but certainly not below par either.  The first time we ate at the bar in side which I would agree with other reviews did have a "Cheers" feel to it. There were a few women there after having a look of trying to meet someone but otherwise it was a mix of people there for drinks or dinner.   The steak I had was pretty good and not overcooked, the side vegetables ok (maybe a 3.5).  The next time we went a week or so later, we sat outside as it was a rare day of decent and warmer weather.  We both had the chicken caesar salads.   So so. Not that big a salad, chicken was ok but nothing more, we asked for extra garlic but barely tasted the regular garlic in the dressing.  It was nice being outside but hmm the food was probably a 2.5 that evening.
Drinks and appetizers are a good choice, and maybe a casual dinner every now.  Just don't expect much and you'll have a nice time.

Chadwick's has 1/2 price appetizer (except shimp and squid) and $2-2.50 house wine and selected beer and drinks specials.

We had black bean chilli, potato skins, and wings, all at 1/2 price, and a couple of glasses of $2 house wine each. The food was decent, and certainly worth the bargain prices. My friend really liked the potato skins.

    Thier Happy Hour: M-F, 4-7pm.

    Drink Specials:
$2 House Red wine, House white wine, Budweiser, Miller Light, Coors Light and Rolling Rock. $2.50 Rail Drinks and Margaritas.

So, any suggestions for other Friendship Heights happy hours that feature specials on food?

Before I even darkened its doors Chadwick's used to freak me out.
First of all, what the hell kind of a name for a bar is Chadwick's? Is this Dickensian London or what?

Secondly - it's downstairs, below the pavement. In a weird way it makes me think of the whole Morlocks and Eloi thing. Going downstairs is OK - but then being able to look up at the street is a bit weird.

Thirdly - for God's sake use a bloody apostrophe in your name. Is it your bar or are there lots of you? I need the punctuation to keep me sane on this.

So one night, I faced my fears and I went in.

Imagine my surprise - it's not a bad spot. Crazy clientele ( everyone's drunk and it's the last place serving drinks within a 3 mile radius). Efficient bar staff, a few people along the bar that merit further inspection. I don't want to say too much - go there late at night and sit at the bar and tell me who you think  the other patrons are and what they do for a living.

But that's not the best bit - the best bit is - behind the bar - there is a signed photograph of local hero Maureen Dowd.

So that was my night, (admittedly I had already been out and enjoyed myself immensely), but Chadwick's was a fine night-cap, a couple of beers, a burger, some phenomenal people watching and Maureen Dowd.

Is there a Maureen D in the house?

I hate Clyde's.  I hate Chef Geoff's.  But I do secretly sort of like Chadwicks... a little bit.  I mean, it's not exquisite dining, but it's relaxing and they give you crayons to draw on the top-paper tablecloth.  Hehe... I adore leaving little masterpieces for the bus boys to admire.  I go here often with my housemates (we live so close) or my boyfriend when we want something more than Panera but less than say, Ruth's Chris.  They have a nice menu of good old American favorites and it reminds me of eating out at home in little B/Co, PA, Washington style.  Sandwiches, salads, junky appetizers, burgers, and some decent dinner specials are all offered.  Last time, i ordered the Chicken Virginia and was pleasantly surprised.  The chicken breast is topped with a pleasantly creamy sauce with a bit of crab meat and ham, which seems a little weird, but it was delicious.

Sidenote: No red bull & vodka at the bar... apparently.

I will go out of my way for their veggie roll up.  I don't know what is happening with that sauce you can dip it in, but it is a taste explosion in my mouth.  Their fries are good too, although I always feel guilty eating fries with a veggie dish (the healthfulness is completely negated).

Their happy hour is good, inexpensive rail drinks and beer.  It can get a little crowed and the layout of the place it odd, kind of like a maze with the different terraces and almost walking behind the bar to get to the bathroom, but it can be a lot of fun with a group of people or even just a pair.

I can't really speak for the rest of the menu cause I love that damn wrap so much! I also really like their potstickers.

The service is good, the last two waiters I've had have been really friendly and attentive.

This isn't haute cuisine but it is better than average bar food!

I love this bar! This place is my cheers! The bartenders are the best and know me and my unique drink.

Great happy hour deals and apps! I love the chicken fingers. I get them grilled with buffalo sauce and ranch dressing on the side. I go all the time after work and always have a great time.

Kudos to Larry, Cameron, Beaver, Soup and Petey for being the best bartenders around!

Just like this review nothing to exciting or flashy just a standard bar.  I am a fan though, always a good crowd.  Food isn't that shabby either.

Thanks for staying open late during snobama.

This place deserves between 3 and 4 stars for being really cute and awesome but not that delicious. I came here with a friend for brunch and I had the soup/salad combo, she had the salmon benedict. Both seemed pretty typical pub-style food, but what really made me want to give it more stars was the part where we came here on Halloween and everyone was dressed up. We had a man with a mohawk and an army vest seat us, and our server was something like little miss muffet. How great?! I also drank a lot of their coffee which wasn't bad. Go to Chadwicks for the sake of having a good time and enjoying your atmosphere, but don't expect to eat a gourmet supper.
