My husband and I went here last night before going to a movie at the nearby Georgetown. This is, as Serena B says below, a friendly place to hang out. It is also a good place to go before or after a movie.
My burger was huge, 7 oz, but done just the way I like it. I tried mine with provolone and grilled onions. Mike, my husband, had a Cuban (sandwich, not cigar) that he really liked. They have an extensive wine list here, however I didn't have any. The thing is, when I get my red wine buzz going, I tend to enjoy it! But the last thing I wanted to do was fall asleep during the movie. Luckily, they have a good selection of beers here too.
This is a good option if you are going to a movie at the nearby Georgetown 14. They're only about a block or so apart.
Good food and good times. This is a solid, friendly hangout. The older man that I've seen bar tend in the evenings is really nice (he looks like a thinner version of Santa).
They have $2 happy hour drinks (no draft specials- at least on Thursdays), so it's a decent deal. The food is pretty good, I enjoyed the potato skins and my friends liked their dishes of wings, turkey platter and the wurst platter.
We had a birthday party for our friend- which amounted to a group of about 20 people and Chadwick's was accommodating to us (we had the whole upstairs to ourselves for most of it, but then again it was on a Sunday).
I work right down the street so I have to been Chadwick's for many a happy hour. The service is friendly, the (happy hour) beers are cheap and the food is surprisingly yummy.
Gourmet it ain't, but Chadwick's has about the most consistent and reasonably priced food you'll find anywhere in G-town. This is comfort food, like Mom used to make. I love their nightly specials, like the meatloaf. They also occasionally have an excellent dessert, like fresh blueberry pie.
The bar is somewhat cozy, but that adds to the charm. Good HH specials and friendly bartenders. Overall, this is a hidden gem in the tourist trap of the other bar/restaurants in Georgetown. It's only real competition in this category might be Clyde's, no other casual place in the area compares.
Met a few friends here for Sunday brunch. Entrees were around $10, or for $20, you could have a brunch with unlimited champagne. Great deal!
I had already eaten eggs for breakfast, so I wasn't really in the mood for any of the brunch options. I asked our waiter (perhaps Patrick was his name?) if I could sub a comparably priced sandwich, but he said management was strict and didn't like substitutions for the champagne brunch. There goes one star. I ended up ordering the fruit platter, which was uninspired, but ok. My friends ordered a variety of egg dishes; the Eggs Benedict were pretty good but the Eggs Idaho were clearly the table's favorite. How could one not like potato skins with scrambled eggs on top, especially when drinking?
We definitely got more than our money's worth of champagne, but even still, there were a few times when we were waiting for our glasses to be filled. Overall, the food may not have been anything special, but I'd definitely recommend this as a cheap all-you-can drink brunch option.
Chadwicks is a great place to utilize on 3 day weekends. It has become traditional to go there for their champagne brunch during said weekends. As a result, it has also become traditional to pass out around 4 PM on said weekends. For 17 dollars, Chadwicks offers all you can drink champagne and a brunch entree. The champagne brunch runs from 11 AM to 4 PM. THAT IS 5 SOLID HOURS OF CONSUMPTION! If you're not a mess by the end of this, you may not be human.
As far as the food, its passable. The breakfast entrees are a bit bland. I sampled the huevos rancheros which were not at all huevos rancheros. It was egg with a little bit of pico de gallo and a ton of cheese. It ended up just being a large melted cheese platter. This goes for the breakfast burrito as well. If I wasn't drinking endless champagne at the same time, I would be a bit more disappointed. Luckily, I think value wise, you are getting a great deal even with the subpar food.
Chadwicks is also a great place to watch morning after couples getting a quick awkward meal. We've also noticed a fair number of cougars clearly on the prowl so be on the lookout.
We went here a couple times when I visited DC, once for lunch and the other for dinner.
The lunch experience was good. It wasn't really busy or too loud. My girlfriend got the pot roast sandwich and I got a corned beef sandwich. They were both very good. We had their crab artichoke dip and it was good.
The dinner experience was good too. It was really loud and busy and we had to wait awhile for a table. I ordered a cheeseburger and my girlfriend got the rock fish special. My burger was decent, but I think it was a little too thick and dry. The rock fish was excellent.
I don't like seafood so I probably missed out on some good dishes from here, but overall I do like the place. I'd come back here again for the rock fish or one of the sandwiches.
It is a nice, nonthreatening place in which to nurse your hangover by setting yourself up for one tomorrow, while eating some decent pub grub and staring blankly around, waiting for the alcohol to take hold.
Maybe it's because it's half a block and around the bend from the movie theater, or maybe because I don't make it to G-town that often, but I was surprised that I never wandered into this place before.
The bartender was very nice and professional. Patrons (of what few there were) were very friendly. They'll cook your burger medium, and they've got the Baltimore O's game on tv, along with a signed picture of Cal behind the bar. (and as further proof I belonged here, I was wearing my O's hat that night!)
Great spot, good vibes, I'll definitely be back.
What's better than brunch (which we already all know is my favorite meal of the day) with your sig-o and a great friend? One that involves a breakfast burrito... and more importantly, unlimited champagne!
I rang up Chadwick's on Sunday morning to inquire about reservations, but because we planned to arrive right when they opened at 1100, they told us to just show up. It was clear once we arrived that we definitely didn't need to bother. It was deserted when we got there, and by the time we left (somewhere around 1330) it was a madhouse. Lesson learned: arrive early, drink slowly and drink often.
For a quite reasonable sum of ~$19, you are provided bottomless champagne (and it's really not bad!) and your choice of an entree. We also split a half carafe of orange juice between the three of us to mix mimosas, and their half carafes are -giant-. We didn't even finish off the one.
While I have to say that my breakfast burrito wasn't all that, it -was- absolutely ginormous. Like, Chipotle-size. And that's not even touching on the potato-worth of home fries that come on the side. Tasty crispy skins with mushy starchy goodness on the inside. Mmm mmmMMMmm. I about had to loosen the button on my shorts to finish it all. But you know me, I'm one of the founding members of the Clean Plate Club - it was a marathon, but I finished it all.
Be sure to grab a seat where you can look out the little porthole-sized windows on the upstairs floor. You can watch paddlers and kayakers out on the Potomac on a nice day. Nothing like a meal and a show!
4.5 stars for:
-Amazing Happy Hour specials ($2 yuengling and house wine, $2.50 margaritas)
- Great specials every night.
- Laid back atmosphere. Never too loud or obnoxious.
- Fun Bartenders...I love the old man named Bill.
- Food is great, but I wish there brunch was a buffet.
*I've come here by myself to grab a nice porter or stout and I've came many times with friends. I've never been here past 9pm though, so things might change with the late night crowd.
Ever craved potato skins at brunch? Perhaps with a glass or six of champagne?
I am pleased to announce that this is possible in Georgetown. Simply order the Eggs Idaho and for $16.95 you'll get three eggs scrambled w/ cheddar cheese, chopped bacon and scallions in potato skin shells and unlimited champagne.
What more could you want on Sunday morning?
After getting kicked out of the Georgetown 14 due to a fire alarm... (this is the second time this has happened to me in the middle of a movie) my friend and I decided to get some drinks instead.
Chadwick's has always been my go-to after-movie place in Georgetown. It's usually pretty empty and if you're lucky you're greeted with such fabulous ditties as the thong song.
Prices on food are a little high, and I'd avoid the "veggie wrap" which should be called the big ol' ball of cheese with a few hidden vegetable wrap. But the bartenders are really nice and attentive and will even shake your hand and thank you if you give them a decent tip. I guess that comes from working in a town of college students who'd rather spend their money on $500 shirts from Intermix instead.
After spending the first two hours there for Yelp Elite event, I stayed for more drinks at the bar downstairs. I've never been to Chadwicks and was not aware of the location before. It's actually a very cool location right next to Loews in Georgetown. We had a taste of the food at the Yelp event so the food is definitely worth trying!! The bouncer was cool when I told him I needed to put more coins in the meter, he said I could get change from the bartender. People at Chadwick's are very friendly and nice! It didnt get too terribly crowded so I sat at bar there immersed in my chats till 1 AM!! What a night.
I make no secret of my obsession with Chadwicks ribs but I went here for drinks (and then of course ribs) with my BFF and I really appreciated the HH specials. We had two shots (that were more like 3 shots each) of vodka and then we each had a vodka soda and the total was $18. Maybe that doesn't sound spectacular to you but after a summer in NYC this was a great welcome back. By the time we finished dinner and a few Blue Moons each we were quite intoxicated. I couldn't love Chadwicks any more than I do already but this just gives me another reason to love it.

It's Labor Day evening, 10 pm and we are starving, accidentally fall upon Chadwicks, greeted with a smile like we were the first customer of the day, great burger, friendly and welcoming. Bartender was our server start to finish. Great spot.
Chadwick's is a pretty tyipcal pub style restaurant and bar. We happened to go on St. Patrick's day and the place was busy, but not overly crowded. They had a $2 beer special and all the standard bar food appetizers and entrees. I had a turkey burger that was about average and sweet potato fries that ranged between a bit soggy and a bit undercooked.
It seems like a great place for beers after work and a bite to eat if you're not terribly picky about the food you're eating. Everything about it was pretty average.
The wait staff was pleasant and seemed to ask at the right times about refills on drinks and miscellaneous other needs. We were a group of eight people and nobody had a real complaint about anything.
Not being much of a brunch person (I prefer to brunch at home), I can't speak to that, but this Georgetown institution has been around 40 years, so they must be doing something right. Located under the Whitehurst Freeway across from Georgetown waterfront park, Chadwicks has two floors (with a bar on each) and a dark, pubby atmosphere. The burgers are good and the draft beers are what you'd expect (Guiness, Sierra, Yuengling, etc). With no outdoor seating, Chadwicks makes a great place to stop in on a cold winter's day or for a pre or post movie drink.
Oh boy...Chadwicks. I have spent two extremely hazy late Sunday mornings/afternoons in D.C. thanks to their all-you-can-drink champagne brunch. The food is actually really good, and if you drink your fill the price is fantastic. The service is very friendly too. These ladies and gents must really enjoy seeing lushes like us make fools of ourselves every Sunday morning. Somehow, this place was not full on either visit. In Chicago there would be a 90-minute wait for this joint.
The first time here, a buddy and I were visiting our newly transplanted D.C. friend, and we came here with a few of his work acquaintances. They watched in bemusement as the three of us consumed refill after refill for about two hours. I won't go into the rest of the hijinks from that day.
The second time, we came with a very similar crowd of my friend's work buddies, and this time we decided to keep count of how many champagne refills we each got--15, 16, and 18, which we felt was a little less than the last time.
I promise, we're not usually such boozy dopes, but those two brunches were a hell of a lot of fun. NFL football, good company, unlimited cheap champagne, great breakfast food, not fighting a crowd...what more can you ask for?
My brother had been raving about the ribs he had at the Chadwicks in Old Towne, so when he was in town this past weekend we made it a point to go there and he was right. The ribs were fall of the bone good and the sauce was very tasty. Others had the crab cake sandwich and fish tacos and thought both were great.
Chadwicks is a good place to go if you want to have drinks or dinner before seeing a movie. It's regular old bar food like nachos, burgers, soups, etc., and it's convenient as far as parking goes. (There is a pay lot across from Chadwicks and tons of street parking depending when you come.)
A few times when I've been here, the service has been bad, but mostly it's a very pleasurable experience. The bulk of their menu is pretty solid but I would say do not get the egg rolls. They are not good. Stick to the basic "American" items on their menu and you'll be fine.
I just love this place. Looking to have a casual drink with friends and maybe some dinner but can't be bothered with reservations? Chadwicks is the perfect place for a low-key evening in G-town. The staff is super friendly and I always walk away with a smile on my face. This is one of the few places in G-town that feels like a neighborhood bar. It is a great place to grab a drink before a movie, watch the game, or to hang with friends. The noise level is manageable and the clientele tends to be pretty low key. The dining room upstairs tends to be less populated, which makes it a great place to get raucous with friends or bring kids. Food is a far cry from a 10, but they do standard bar fare well. Thumbs up for the fish and chips.
Sadly, I cannot recommend the bottomless champagne brunch (its not bottomless if you have to constantly remind the server to fill your glass). Service was slow, if non-existent, and the food was cold. Save your money for the bar.
Chadwick's is a great place to hang out and get away from the craziness on M Street. It's usually crowded but not packed and has a good atmosphere.
They don't have a great draft selection but the bartenders are quick and friendly. They've got an additional bar upstairs with a lot more seating, which is nice. The DJ, however, was just awful.
It's a solid spot to grab a drink if you actually want to have a conversation with the people you're with. A great neighborhood bar and I could definitely see people becoming regulars here. It attracts a range of ages and is a nice respite from the rest of Georgetown's eurotrash.
If you're looking for the best potato skins in all of DC, maybe even the whole east coast, look no further than Chadwick's. The little mounds of cheesy potato-y bacon-y goodness make an awesome snack anytime. Their burgers and clam chowder are also insanely delicious. The pesto sauce was a bit lacking the last time I had it, but not outright bad or anything. Their happy hour specials are amazing - $2 beers and $2.50 rail drinks and half price wings and skins. Plus, if you work late like I do, they have specials every single weeknight that go all night long, so you can still enjoy happy hour prices later on.
**EDIT - 7/5/05**
Last weekend I went here for the champagne brunch. When they say "unlimited" champagne, they mean it! The champagne glasses are huge to begin with, and on top of that, the waitress was super attentive and kept filling up my glass. I definitely stumbled out of there. Foodwise, the Eggs Idaho (potato skins stuffed with scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon) and the Huevos Rancheros were our top choices.
If you're looking for a great way to end your Sunday at 4 PM, check out their all you can drink $20 brunch. Many a great weekend have ended there. Be careful not to throw your wallet away afterwards.
What I learned this weekend: The best way to celebrate Easter when you don't really celebrate Easter at all is with champagne brunch at Chadwicks in Georgetown. Who needs a basket filled with tooth-rotting sugar when you can rot your liver with champagne instead? It's the perfect alternative! We had a reservation for 10 for 2:00pm yesterday. My fiance and I arrived first and they seated us right away even though everyone else was running a little late. I really appreciate when places don't make 9 out of 10 of your party crowd anxiously in the vestibule while waiting for that last person to arrive. For $20 you get to choose a brunch entree and you get unlimited champagne with last call falling at 3:45pm. Our waiter was great, he kept the champagne coming without us having to ask for it. The brunch dishes are quite tasty too. I opted for the breakfast burrito with eggs and andouille sausage and couldn't finish it because it was so large. Several others in our group opted for the Eggs Idaho, another of my favorites, which are large potato halves filled with scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon I believe. Sooo tasty! At right around 3:40 we were finishing up but our server made sure to fill everyone's glass one more time as he delivered the check, what a good guy. Overall I think this is a great deal. I do have to say that they kind of gouged us on orange juice at $14 for a carafe, but that is my only real complaint. I hope to continue to find reasons to indulge in champagne brunch at Chadwicks... hey, isn't Flag Day coming up?
Sometimes you just want to go to a bar...a real east-coasty bar...a real east-coasty bar that's not filled with trashy people. And that's when I go to Chadwick's. I also go when I want a really yummy pulled-pork sandwich. Get the fries or veggies on the side cuz the coleslaw already comes with it. Yum!
I've always been a fan of Chadwick's for the classic neighborhood pub atmosphere. There are decent specials on drinks, a steady group of regulars at the bar; and it's an excellent spot for a beer and a conversation. The food is typical pub fare- nothing inventive, but who wants inventive at their neighborhood bar? Always a good spot for a beer and a conversation- if you sit at the bar for a football game, be ready to hear about the Redskins from Bill, the old bartender who seems to always be around.
I really like Chadwick's if only b/c it's such a neighborhood spot. I'd say it's biggest flaw is that the service is mediocre, but I love the dijon chicken salad, the crabcake sandwich, the salmon salad, $2 coronas on wednesdays, the awesome champagne brunch, and I could go on....
good upstairs bartender, friendly owner.
We had a great Sunday brunch from start to finish. Although I prefer more experimental cooking, what was offered at Chadwicks was well prepared and satisfying. I had the Eggs Chesapeake - a Benedict done with crabmeat instead of ham and my date had the crab sandwich and that disappeared quickly. What made for a very relaxing experience was the sense that we have discovered the place - facing the river just off the corner of Wisconsin. Why aren't more people finding this place? On the 2nd floor we had a lovely view of the river and folks boating. This was not a you have to shout to be heard kind of place, and that was great. But the big pleasure of Chadwick's is the wait staff. Ours was attentive without hovering, smiling and knowledgeable about the food. My date's complex requests for his dessert didnt ruffle her composure. I only hope that the tables of college-aged patrons indulging in the all you can drink champagne were smart enough to repay their waiters with a generous tip for all the attentive pouring and refilling I saw going on. This is a place I see myself returning to especially when I want to linger and watch the sunlight on the Potomac.
I hadn't been to Chadwick's in a few years and just happened to wander in on a Tuesday night after going to the Georgetown waterfront. Lucky us! Tuesday is definitely the best time to go to Chadwick's - they have some great happy hour specials. Happy hour goes from 4 pm to close and specials include $2.50 rail drinks and margaritas and $2 domestic bottles. The rail drinks and margaritas were good and you can't beat the price. I also love that the drink special prices apply at tables as well; I've been to too many DC bars where you have to crowd around the bar to get the low price. The potato skins are very popular here - they're huge and yummy. Their menu is standard bar fare and is reasonably priced - apps $7 -$10, sandwiches around $10, and entrees $15- $20. The food was all pretty good, but the low drink prices are what will bring us back. I also like the homey feel of the place and the low noise level - you can actually hear the people at your table without having to scream. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by Chadwick's and will go back again soon.
