When this place first opened we felt very lucky to find it. Great wines from a variety of local winemakers. Different styles and varietals you are bound to find something you like.

What I really like most about Cellars is the staff. They make you feel like family. Always friendly and they know their wines. As a SF Giants fan I appreciate the way they support our team.

It also happens to be a great place to spend a couple hours on a Friday night. Live music is usually happening Thurs.- Sat. We like Friday nights because of local singer John Pita. There are various events happening throughout the week. Check the schedule.

This place is a pillar of Railroad Square and should be considered a must go.

Love, Love, Love this authentic, unique wine tasting room located in the heart of Santa Rosa's Railroad Square!

Cellars of Sonoma is a family-owned business run by Scott Jordan and family. Scott and his son both served our party during this visit. We had just completed wine tastings at four wineries in Sonoma County. Cellars of Sonoma was recommended to us by a server at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Tasting Room.

What a treat this was at the end of a long day of traditional winery-hopping!

Cellars of Sonoma provides discerning wine enthusiasts with the opportunity to sample and purchase boutique, small lot, hard to find wines in a venue similar to an upscale, family-owned winery. The Jordan Family really makes you feel like family and close friends.

There are several wine flights for you to choose from. All flights are moderately priced at $10. I selected the Syrah Blind Tasting Wine Flight, while my friend selected the Pinot Noir Wine Flight. The selection of boutique wines was outstanding!

We tasted wines from the following vintners: 1) Bonneau Wines 2) Du Nah Vineyards 3) James Family Cellars 4) Krutz Family Cellars 5) La Sirena 6) Joseph Jewell 7) Amorossa Bella.  All of the wines were excellent!

Conclusion: If you crave a unique wine tasting experience that can provide excellent service and atmosphere combined with an exceptional wine selection...Cellars of Sonoma is your place!

I love this place. I have been many times and recently became a first sips member.

The staff is warm, inviting, and accommodating. No matter how busy they get, the service is always excellent.

This is a great place to meet friends for tastings, have a glass of wine before dinner, or purchase a bottle to take to dinner.

If you want to enjoy your wine at Cellars of Sonoma, they can order you appetizers or full meals delivered from nearby restaurants. There is plenty of room upstairs for larger parties.

Really fun people. Wasn't busy so we got great attention. The wines were al wonderful. Great place to discover new wines from small winemakers. They have flights, they have multiple flights, they have mix and match flights. But if you are of the adventurous type (in a good way), go with the, "surprise me" flight. You probably won't regret it. If you do...we all make mistakes, but you can't be wrong twice in a row. They have a room upstairs which can seat a bunch. Great for groups.

I've been to this place twice now and both times were Stellar!!

Stellar I tell ya. Stellar Cellars. Andrew is the main stain there and the guy has knowledge, class, and is NOT full of himself - just a good guy that knows his stuff about these wines and the wine biz in general.

first time a wino friend of mine went in on a Friday night and compared wines - like 2 pinot noirs each - they have 9 wineries part of the program and while I've been in the wine business for 25 years I've never heard of these wineries and they're all really good. DuNah, Bonneau, James Family, Krutz and others - there's one from the infamous Heidi Barrett - this top level stuff that comes at a good price.

Cannot forget to mention Joey - a girl, er, I should say a woman that did an amazing job the first time I was there.

These people are passionate about wines and give tremendous service. Got to check it out if you're into Vino.

I went here a little over a month ago and had an amazing experience.  Me and several of my girlfriends were meeting up to head out to dinner downtown but figured let's meet at Cellars of Sonoma first to do some wine tasting.
Then Kevin informed us that we could go upstairs and bring in food from restaurants in the area and that some even deliver or he himself could go pick it up...talk about amazing service.
So we cancelled our reservation and were able to accomandate all of our cravings by ordering from a couple of restaurants (talk about making my girlfriends happy campers), this was just awesome since I have two vegeterians in my group.
We also ordered several bottles of wine all of them per Kevin's suggestion and everyone enjoyed all of them and I was surprised at the affordable price points.
We hope to make a regular girls night of it.
I definitely recommend checking out this place.

Cellars of Sonoma is an original concept. A father and son opened a beautiful tasting room in Santa Rosa where they provide access to the public to taste wines from a handful of talented wine makers who don't have tasting rooms on their own property. We tried wines from Gann and La Sirena.

They also offer free live music. It was a singer song writer doing some original material as well as Jack Johnson covers.

Taste wines from throughout Sonoma / Russian River / Dry Creek without leaving Santa Rosa downtown. Best of all they offer deals for checking in on Yelp. The day we were there the offer was on free tasting (a $10 value).

Still awesome... hate to tell everyone about it because then we won't get seats for the music, but we have to since we love the owners and would hate to deny everyone how great this place is.

I just added this to my "white & bubbly" list so I have to say something about your options... AMOROSA BELLA - Sparkling brut rose... everything else is most likely also good.  I usually start with reds so not 100% sure which whites I love.  = )  I believe Joseph Jewell's Sauv blanc was tasty (they are the new wine at cellars).

But yeah... still a reds guy and this place is still awesome.  Just ask Andrew what to try or try everything.

My boyfriend & I stopped in here on a Sunday evening on our way to dinner down the street. Originally, we were going to grab a glass of wine at Jackson's, but thought, why not try somewhere new? We were not disappointed.

We decided to do a wine flight, Zins & Whites, and Matt was super knowledgeable and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. "Attentive without being intrusive" - exactly that. I fell hard for the La Sirena Moscato Azul - while Dan enjoyed a game of uncovering wine clues in the hopes of winning a free tasting (and really, making a game out of wine tasting is genius!). Matt came back periodically to shed some new light on the various wineries and fun facts about what we were drinking. Eventually we realized we were running late for our reservation b/c we were enjoying ourselves so much. Will definitely come back soon - I hear there's live music on some nights!

I recently organized a social there for an organization and we were able to reserve the upper loft -- great spot for a group. They were very flexible with everyone ordering by the glass (on separate tabs, ack) and were attentive without being intrusive.

The wine was all very good -- I highly recommend the Pirate wine (by the Chateau Montelena vintner, I think), despite the staggering price ($70/bottle). You can also order flights of wine but logistically it's tricky with a larger group.

Great location for an after-work cocktail or for a group. Great location in Railroad Square. There is no food here but you can order from either Jack & Tony's (which delivers) or Jackson's (which does not, but offers take-out.)

We have been wine club members for a little over a year.

Service is great.  The staff knows the wines all very well (9 different wineries, all small production). Since the wineries for the most part stay the same, it is nice to build an understanding of the wines through multiple vintages.

Location is also a big plus.  Sushi, American, and upscale dinning are all nearby with most of the locations delivering or providing convenient pickup so you can eat at the wine bar.

Such a great little tasting room in downtown Santa Rosa. I came here once with my maid of honor while looking for a wedding venue and returned with my family a couple of weeks later. (We had even stopped in the place a couple doors down and the douchiest server ever treated us like shit so we just bounced to where I know the people are nice). Family owned and operated, with a great selection. Try the blind zin tasting, I bet it stumps you!

Love coming down on Friday/Saturday nights for the music!  The wines are hit or miss...some are great (Malbec/Syrah) others...not so much (Bonneau Chard).

Really the only problem I have is that it gets so warm in there, and all the wines sit on the back counter....so they're served at room temperature in a really warm room.  Not such a problem on the reds - but definitely on the whites.

Wide variety of smaller producers, which is always fun to learn more about other wineries in the area!

Definitely a good night cap spot after dinner at LoCoco's or Jacksons!

Matt & Christina ROCK!!! last weekend my girlfriends and I were spending two days in Sonoma touring wineries but sadly found everything closed so early on Sunday :( that we had nothing to do. So after checking in to our hotel and wandering around 4th st in Santa Rosa we happily found Cellars of Sonoma open and thought we would head in for a glass before dinner.  3 hours later, having been treated like friends not just guests, my group said good-bye to Matt & Christina having tasted some lovely wines, shared some laughs and made a potentially boring evening FANTASTIC!!!   Being the only patrons in the wine bar, they could have easily closed up shop and sent us on our way at any time but instead a simple glass of wine became a social event.  I can't wait to take more people back there for both the wine and the good company!

    ************* REVIEW 247 ****************

What a surprise for us, our first time came to this beautiful historic Santa Rosa Railroad Square, a beautiful strip with many boutiques, restos, & this amazing tasting room.

Wines across the wall & barrels through out the main tasting room. A private tasting room upstairs for special event or you can rent our for special occasion!

The tasting is only $10 per flight for 5 tastes! & it's free when you buy a bottle. Not to mention their special HALF OFF on open bottles on MON.
Live band  play on Thursdays & Fridays.

They offer rare, interesting, & smaller produce wines, which we love. I learn so many new things about Rosé flight at this visit than ever before.

They also offer a great collection of Pinot Noir, which I'm not really familiar with, but I was surprised to try out the 2007 Dunah Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard, it was great.

They also offer "Wine Club" for 4 shipments a year, mix of red & white wines or you can choose your references.

But what my best friend & I love most about this tasting room is the awesome host Mike & Scott, just two great men, so knowledgeable & passionate about the wines, just amazed me.

And as my best friend accompanied me, she doesn't want to be lectured on wines, sitting at the bar, snacking on cheese plate, lay her beautiful eyes on the cute brothers Andrew & Kevin.  Now the wines just tasted even better & she was buzzed before she even knew it!

& yes, unlike my best friend, I came to Cellars of Sonoma to learn more about rare, small produced & interesting wines only!!!

Rumor has it that they will offer their own bubbly, I'm so there soon for that "bubbly flight".

I made a spontaneous trip here over the weekend. When we arrived we were the only patrons inside..but the place quickly filled up. Matt gave me an overview of the cellar and some of its notable vinyards..and we got down to business and began our tasting. The Du Nah sauvignon blanc was refreshing to start with. We then progressively made our way to the reds. Tasted quite a number of their wines..and my favorite was a Pinot Noir from Du Nah.
It was wine tasting in a very chill environment. They even let us order food from Jackson's to complement the wine.
Such a great discovery and definitely worth the drive.

Cellars of Sonoma has to be part of my favorite Russian River Valley wineries. Most of the wineries they represent are from Russian River Valley, but also some wonderful Dry Creek as well. (another list soon to come).

Located in Santa Rosa's historic downtown close to the Hyatt, Marriott, and Hotel La Rose and wonderful Jack and Tony's and Jackson's Restaurant. Santa Rosa's Railroad Square in the last two years has really started to standout thanks to Cellars of Sonoma and many other businesses.

They represent a handful of wineries that are all small production and don' t have any other tasting rooms. You will only find these wines here. These wineries are: Gann Family, DuNah VIneyards, La Sirena, Bonneau, Bradford Mountain, Krutz Cellars, and James Family Cellars and TR Elliot. There are many different flights you can taste based on style and varietals.

    My favorite:
any Sauvignon Blanc Gann Family does
    any Malbec Gann Family does
    La Sirena Syrah
    Bonneau Cabernet Sauvignon

If I haven't mentioned wonderful hospitality and they are open at least til 8:30pm!

Very, very glad that we went here. The three of us were in Sonoma looking for an open vineyard to do some wine tasting at 5pm. After a quick browse of our buddies' droid phone, we found this place 5 minutes away.

And how glad we were. A very awesome experience. I think it was Matt who helped us out. He was very informative, very non-confrontational, and just very laid back and chill to talk to. He didn't dismiss our questions as being amateurish, and didn't talk down to us.

The wines are all from local vineyards. I had the pinot noir samplings which included wines from TR Elliott, Krutz, and Du Nah. The 2007 TR Elliott was amazing and I think I might have found my new wine. Even though there were only four samplings listed for $10, Matt threw in a fifth tasting of their 2006 TR Elliott. My two friends got the deeper red list consisting of syrahs, and both were very impressed with their wine choices.

Overall, the atmosphere was very laidback. There were only a few people around. It was probably the best wine tasting experience I've ever had. Of course, we mentioned yelp as the way we found them, and they remembered that fact when they discounted our tasting. We ended up purchasing a $40 bottle of wine, got the third tasting off because of the wine purchase, and got the other two tastings complimentary.

Highly recommend this place. Just a great wine tasting experience. Thanks Matt!

Great place for a drink =) One of the best places in Santa Rosa. Don't miss out of the chance to just stop by and say hi for a complimentary tasting via yelp. We headed here on a suggestion from Ray at Harvest Moon (def check them out as well!!).

Upon arriving, we find out that the guys here had just landed a $1,700 sale. They were ecstatic. Kevin, our "guide", gave us generous pours throughout our flight tastings. We tried the lights and reds which were from 4 different wineries around the area.

Some great flavor profiles here and lots to enjoy. We asked for an extra re-tasting of our favorites (Sav Blanc and Chard from the lights flight) and Kevin was more than happy to oblige. We walked out with those two bottles and are looking forward to drinking a full glass!

If you happen to be in Santa Rosa go check this guys out. Mike and Scott put this place together, to showcase small wineries. you can do wine tasting before buying the wine. I was so impress with some of the wine they carry I had to buy some. Especially the Dry Muscat. I never had that wine before and I recommend you try it.
The decor inside is wonderful they used old wine barrel to cover the ceiling it gives the place a really nice vibe.

My boyfriend and I were in Santa Rosa for the weekend. We stumbled across this place while we were waiting for our dinner reservations at Syrah. The owner's son was there at the front and was very helpful. I've never been wine tasting before so he answered all my questions. I didn't like some of the wine I tasted though, so the guy offered to have me try other wines. I even bought a bottle of wine.

He was telling us about the members club they have there and it sounded really interesting- would definitely join if we lived closer- they seem to do a lot of fun events!

The atmosphere was very clean and welcoming. Next time we find ourselves in Santa Rosa, we will definitely make a stop here.

I really do hate to give this place a low review like 3 stars as I can clearly see the service is excellent, but as 3 star denotes by Yelp it's just okay.

In a nutshell the wine all tasted the same by being so different from what you find typically and also by that note I didn't leave completely satisfied with my overpriced selections.

The place is set up like a usual tasting bar but there are were no booths or seats when I walked in and appears to be a similar size like Wine Spectrum.

I have experienced better when it comes to the collection of stocked wine.

The person at the counter touted "small", "hard to find", "interesting" and otherwise restressed "little" wineries but also "local".

Okay, enough of the quoting and down to the actual wine.

They sell tastings in what is called a flight and each flight is 10 dollars; comp'd when you buy a bottle.

There are about 5 tastings per flight. They have a whites, deep reds, and another catagory I believe to be another derivative of red.

I had a friend with me who is getting to know local wine tasting and how we tend to compare wines to each other. I explained holding one of the "deep reds", a zinfandel, up to the white paper on the desk top that I prefer deeper, as you could completely see through the wine in the glass. So that's my first complaint, all the deep reds weren't really very dark, deep, or full of heavy dimension.

I mean, that is why I picked that flight ... for a deep, or rich, or complex taste.

The guy behind the counter tried to be more accommodating by then giving me a taste of their heaviest selection, a petite syrah. I admit it was heavier but this petite syrah stood out as good and interesting because of how light it was. I could see pairing it easily and differently than other petite syrahs typical on the market.

So much to my disappointment there were no deep flavors as suggested. However, much to my surprise they did a good job selecting wines that were odd-ball for their vintage or blend.

What I left with was all from the Gann Family Cellers: the Ensemble Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, and the Petite Syrah.

The Rosé was not sweet, I mean, really, really not sweet. It being so dry is what made it so different.

The Sauvignon was nice as it was a slight twist being only 10% oak barrel fermented. My boyfriend and I love tank fermented. It did have notes of citrus but was really dry.

And of course the Petite Syrah stood out as being so light.

I also did try the Gerwerstraminer which was really dry and light, also untypical for this area. I do intend to go back and pick up bottle soon. I was already spending a hefty amount at the time on the other three bottles so that had to wait.

Otherwise I'm waiting to go back when they've expanded their selection. I could see the wines appealing to people who like dryer, less fruity, less citrusy, light wines; like French table wine, young Cabs, coastal reds, and many German wines with slate tastes.

All in all, this place has a lot of potential and I look forward to seeing how they do. The server explained they had only been open 6 weeks, so 7 week by the time I write this review.

I've been left with the feelings that this place has excellent service but is expensive for what you get. Go here in mind to try something new for our area of what has been trendy in typical wine tasting.

Who knows, maybe they are starting a new trend in "unusual wines" and micro wineries or maybe it's overpriced weird selections.

My partner and I were celebrating our 4 year anniversary last weekend. We wanted to go wine tasting but were too lazy to drive to a winery. Plus, everyone has their recommendations. Going to wine country is kinda overwhelming with all the options. I came across this Yelp listing and checked in to get the promo. We were staying at Hotel La Rose around the corner so why not just walk over.

Shelly and Andrew? (I think his name is Andrew. He's blonde. Look for that guy). Anyway, they were the nicest, sweetest folks ever. My partner and I aren't the most knowledgeable when it comes to wine tasting. These 2 folks were so patient and explained everything to us - what to look for, how much should a "good" wine cost, how to store wine, etc. Then, us 4 were going back and forth on all these stories about everything - jobs, college, food, cars, how they met. These 2 were such great company, it was seriously just like getting drinks with friends. My partner and I felt so comfortable and relaxed there. We stayed for a few hours tasting and chatting it up. And I walked out tipsy (which explains why I can't remember that dude's name.)

My partner (right before we went there swore he doesn't like wine) ended up buying 2 ports and a zin. Shelly had some awesome recommendations that catered to his exact tastes. (I'm the drinker in the relationship so I'm less discriminatory. I'm actually looking at the 3 bottles while typing this review. I'm salivating. Sad, huh?)

Anyway, I recommend this place because the employees here are really cool. They're great people to hang out with, and it's such a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. And they make some awesome recommendations. We're from the East Bay and we hope to come back.

Cellars of Sonoma is a tasting room in the Railroad District of Santa Rosa, CA that represents family-owned, small-production Sonoma County wineries. However, upon entering, it feels more like a bar/restaurant, as they also sell their wines by the glass, you can order food from one of the nearby restaurants and they'll deliver, and there is often entertainment.  The atmosphere is friendly, comfortable, casual, and fun. Add Cellars of Sonoma to your next visit to Sonoma County.

Have been there two times, and the first was much better then the second. the first time Scott was behing the bar, and he was good at what he does. Although he believes that no one that walks into this place understands anything about wine, which is ok but for those of us that have been in the wine biz before his time we understand wine, and probably have more knowledge then he at this time.
the selection was limited, but that is expected from a place that only represents few wineries (i think around 5). They do showcase the wineries that rep well. The Decor is great, and love the wine barrel frames with the slideshows playing in them,
WOuld probably not returned but had a wait at a nearby place and decided did not want to stand in their bar, so we walked down and visited again. This time was waited on by two men (one younger and one older - could possibly be father son). The service was horrific to say the least. They spent their time talking to Scott (our server from before) and his gf (?) and mother (?).
it was difficult to get served on and the information the younger one was just incorrect.
we did not even finish our tasting, and walked out.
    WIll not be back.

Such a nice place!  Very warm atmosphere and family run.  Andrew, the son of the owner was just too cool for words.  He was knowledable yet very down to earth and patient.  Very nice experience tasting wines and we went back for the live music on Friday which was great!  We were able to sit upstairs and watch the Giants game while sipping our wine and listening to the music.  Andrew was once again attentive and welcoming.  We will visit again when in the area!

This is one of my favorite places to stop by when I visit my family in Sonoma County. There are always unusual and delicious wines on the list, and my favorite part of the experience is the atmosphere. It's a lovely environment, and everyone behind the counter is always friendly and professional. Looking forward to returning again soon!

My boyfriend and I ventured over to Cellars of Sonoma while waiting for our table at Jackson's. We immediately loved the vibe and the amazing live music. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The wine list isn't too extensive and it's a little disappointing that they don't offer their flights after happy hour time. I would definitely return to enjoy some wine and listen to John Pita - the singer/guitarist who plays there every Friday night; he is great!

Great little place went on a Thursday night the live Jazz was great. We arrived near closing probably about 30 minutes to go. We had propt service initially but then as we winded down to the last wine in our tasting flight he was more occupied with wine club members. Thought of buying a bottle of one of the wines we tasted but didn't due to his lack of service towards the end of our night. They offer a huge selection of wines and yelp check in offered a bogo tasting for their flights. I'll go back but was disapointed my husband got better service earlier and I felt we didn't get the same attention he recieved.

Very good location; good place to go hang out after work for some good wine and music.  The staff is all very nice, but beware of one of the owners son's, he's pretty loud and isn't afraid to tell you how awesome he is.  They have some very good wines in the tasting room, they showcase wines that don't have a tasting room.  Great place to go when you're waiting to catch a dinner reservation.

After reading the previous review, let me start by saying that indeed the service is superb, AND they have expanded their wine selection, AND they do, indeed, tout and pour only small production, unique, and boutique type wineries.   They are local, they  all have wonderful history and stories to tell.   I believe there are pleasing and outstanding wines here for every palate.  I typically do not agree with any one person stating wines are weak, or meager, simply due to the fact that wines taste, smell, affect everyones palate differently and that being said.... I always discourage people from giving thumbs down to wines (especially so many diverse names and varietals) as that can ruin a potentially great experience for so many that would have otherwise loved these wines!
    I really love this bar! ~ isn't that a country song?!~
The bar itself is stunningly gorgeous, feels so elegant, yet the decor is so nice and modern,  I deem this a true "feel good" place.
Unfortunately, they are the only wine bar/tasting room in downtown Santa Rosa, meaning so many people will pass right on by  and up to Dry Creek and other Northern Wine tasting areas... I strongly urge you to exit off 101 toward 3rd St or Downtown Santa Rosa and make this stop.  Spend some time in the lovely Old Railroad Square and visit this beautiful, up and coming hot spot!

Really top-notch wine selection - like a boutique of wine. The sommelier was so knowledgeable and generous. She described my preferences to a tee. I really enjoyed the whole shabang.
