Oh, I remember Cefiore when I was in LA three years ago. It was (and probably still is) in the Japanese Village in Little Tokyo, so I always associate this place with spiky-haired adolescent servers and very tart-tasting fro-yo. Not terrible (as my old Yelp review will attest...http://www.yelp.com/bi...) but nothing I would race down south for either. Flash forward three years later, and Jamie W. walks us down to New Montgomery where lo and behold, a Cefiore has opened. It's calmed down a bit on the style quotient.
No spiky hair here, just a personable, responsible-looking woman who obviously uses conditioner. The tartness seems to be gone. Not her, the fro-yo...well, at least with what I had ...a $3.50 medium-sized swirl of Chocolate and Pumpkin with bits of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup on top (see photo). Really tasty, and it lasted all the way to Jessie Square in front of the Contemporary Jewish Museum where we parked our ample derrieres and licked to our heart's content. Life can be good that way. Know what I mean?
FRO-YO - 4 stars...the tartness was gone, and golly, it's the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown
AMBIANCE - 3 stars...a shoebox of a place but clean and well-kept
SERVICE - 3.5 stars...nice conditioner
TOTAL - 4 stars...fro-yo fo sho
This is the time of the year where pumpkin is the most popular flavor. And I love pumpkin in just about anything .i.e. fro-yo. I had the seasonal-flavored fro-yo from elsewhere and enjoyed it. Will I get a repeat from another fro-yo shop?
My visit landed me at Céfiore in the Financial district early and dark Sunday evening. This is one of two San Francisco locations (with the other shop inside the Westfield Mall located not far away). I actually enjoyed eating the fro-yo from the other location to take a quick break from (window)-shopping in the mall. But this location is surrounded by high-rise buildings.
There wasn't much people in the quiet and dark streets or in the shop. And looking at the dispensers behind the cashier were the aforementioned Pumpkin, Chocolate, Acai Berry and Pomegranate as the available flavors. But my main target was the seasonal Pumpkin flavor and I got that flavor in a small bowl with the (supposedly chewy) Mochi balls as my lone topping for $4.00.
I thought the shop's version was bland and least creamy with little flavor and the mochi ball was too stiff to chew. Not the best Pumpkin-flavor fro-yo I've had yet.
With the seasonal-flavor still ongoing, my journey to find the best tasting Pumpkin-flavor fro-yo still continues....ELSEWHERE!
I love this place ... the chocolate (or recently available pumpkin swirled with chocolate) was absolutely wonderful all by themselves. It is a nice treat while walk over to Yerba Buena Gardens, the Contemporary Jewish Museum, or other nearby people watching spots. The prices are where you'd expect them to be for fro-yo in San Francisco - $3.50 or so for the small (plenty big for a single person's pleasure). Try it out!
Let's just say that even if It's cold and pissing it down with rain, I'm going to Cefiore.
A simple shop nestled off Market, a perfect place to grab a snack on a break. I'm not super fancy when ordering so an original with mochi is just the right collection of flavors. I would give them 5 stars but the froyo was a little on the watery side and could have been creamier. But then again, I think they had frosted flakes as a topping so this might need to be reconsidered.
Bright, clean, and simple, offering 4 flavors daily, quality toppings and fresh fruits.
The Acaiberry is made with real acaiberry puree, according to the girl at the counter. The plain is tart and clean flavored. However I found the pumpkin pie too sweet and creamy.
It's a guilt-free dinner after my gym class at crunch a couple doors down :)
Pumpkin pie flavor with crumbled graham cracker topping is the BEST combo ever!!! It was like eating a real pumpkin pie...incredible nutmeg/cinnamon flavors in there and was oh so creamy. Satisfy your pie craving without the fat! haha It's only available for a limited time so make sure to go try it!

Yummy! After a great love affair, I broke up with fro yo a few years ago.
After a sample I was hooked back in. The pineapple and chocolate are both great flavors.
I believe, thanks to this place, I am back in love again.
I live by Bakers Beach. Ce Fiore is on New Montgomery street. That is a good 20-30 min trip (not including the time I spend looking for parking).
On my good days, I leave my house at noon, and I'll have the froyo in my mouth at about 4pm. no just kidding silly, but you get the idea.
My usual consists of original yogurt, 2 servings of mochi (YES, 2!) and either kiwi or blueberry topping, maybe both if I feel like a baller that day.
I also refuse to eat froyo without mochi, and have furiously stampeded out of numerous froyo joints in tears because they were out/did not carry mochi. But this place always makes me smile, because I know they would never do such thing to upset me :)
Aside from just froyo they have assorted varieties of edible goodies such as waffles, ice cream and designer tea!
and the red high heel door stopper? Now that's what keeps me coming back!
Fro-yo girl here. I really liked their Golden Cherry flavor and was looking forward to the new pineapple tart fro-yo, described as "caramelized pineapple with hints of mandarin oranges." It certainly sounded good but it didn't live up to my expectations. I know I'm spoiled by Blush's amazing pineapple tart fro-yo which is zingy, fresh and pure. I've also had better pineapple tart a couple of other places.
Cefiore's pineapple tart doesn't have that fresh, zingy flavor. It tastes heavy, too sweet and too much like cream. I tried the chocolate fro-yo which tasted pretty chocolaty and sweet, maybe more chocolaty than usual (but I don't like chocolate fro-yo so it's harder for me to judge). I did enjoy their green tea smoothie - made with green tea fro-yo, green tea powder, milk, and ice. It was creamy with tiny icy bits, a little sweet and refreshing.
Without Golden Cherry, they deserve three stars.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

Delightful! Feeling like I still had a little space to fill after lunch, I took a nice stroll in the sun down to this fro-yo spot. Again, thanks to Yelp for helping find the closest & best option!
I had the place all to myself so no pressure on taking my time to digest the order board and figure out my choice (plus they only have 4 options!). I went with the Golden Cherry with chocoloate chips and mixed nuts. Wonderful! Went and grabbed a bench in front of the Academy and enjoyed my yogurt in the sun!
Excellent find (not to mention the crepe cart I spotted on Howard on the way....Saint Germaine) so I'll plan many more afternoon visits as we conclude the traditional Summer and begin the City's REAL Summer!
So Karen Y led me through dark alleys and twisted roads to her secret froyo place. Okay, so I might've exaggerated a tad. We were actually walking through the busy streets of FiDi during lunch.
Cute, ultra clean and bright!
Super friendly server/cashier girl! (as mentioned in Karen's multiple reviews)
Fresh fruits!
Huge mini servings! (equivalent to smalls at other places)
Generous amount of topping!
I'm a bit snobby when it comes to original tart since I love having a good amount of tartness. The one here does not have much tartness. But at least it wasn't super sweet or creamy so I was able to enjoy it with fresh strawberries (which happened to be tart). lol.
Nice clean location, friendly staff, tasty yogurt. What else do you need?
If you come here after dinner, see if Darwin or Kate is working. Both are super nice. It was near closing time when we arrived and Darwin was quite patient with oh-fickle-me - he gave us free samples of all the flavors. We finally decided on the plain because it goes with any topping.
What's cool about Darwin / this yogurt shop is that he doesn't give you a $4 hollow tower of frozen yogurt (like the other fro-yo giant). He gives you the solid real deal. And, he lays on generous amounts of fresh toppings, so much that they avalanche off the cup. I guess it's better for the fruit to be in my stomach than thrown out in the trash at closing!
This place is on my way to work so I'll definitely stop by again. You know, if they had bacon for a topping, my mind would explode and I would have to come here every day for a fix.
High-Five, Darwin!
Craving for some froyo in the city
Eating my lunch, but nowhere to sit on New Montgomery
Found this place right by The Sentinel
Inside is small, but it gets the job done
Ordered the "Golden Cherry" ($3.25)
Right on with the consistency, but a bit mild in taste
Eat well and eat healthy!
You can totally walk on New Montgomery and not see this place! They are rotating their new flavors!! When I came they had Pineapple tart and Golden Cherry as their new flavors.
Flavors I tried...
Plain: very mild you almost can't taste the flavor
Pineapple tart: ditto
Golden Cherry: tasted mild, but good froyo consistency... not too creamy and not too icy.
The golden cherry is made with blood oranges and cherries! yum!!! So I ended up getting a mini froyo of the golden cherry. Definitely sample all the flavors until you find the one you like! It's always best to try it than to get stuck with something you dislike.
This is a nice place to come and sit down and enjoy your frozen treat. If you bought lunch at The Sentinel, you can eat it in here too! Eat froyo and your sandwich all at once!! mmmm :)
3.5 stars worth!!
Came here for dessert after lunch one day and have been craving the refreshing treats every time and again. Great place to take your date, friends, self. The place is small but modern. Not the type of guy usually to go to these dessert places but I have to admit that the yogurt there is crafty and appealing. it comes in a variety of flavors that taste clean, smooth and better than ice cream at times. you are able to add all kinds of mixes and toppings onto there. The people who work there are super cool and friendly. There are even cool seats to sit on! The location is easy to get to and smacked right in the downtown area. There are so many choices, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. It's fast, easy, and fairly priced. just grab and go. Give it a try, you just might get hooked.
As far as fro-yo goes, all I care about is the taste and the price. I don't care what the ambiance is like if I'm just going to walk outside and smell homeless urine while I eat. Plus, there are only two seats in this place... wtf?

As promised, I returned to cefiore to see if their other flavors aren't as blah as the original. I wanted to get the acaiberry, but they were out :( So I got the raspberry-pomegranate instead, and it was good. Much better than the original. It was so good that I did the exact opposite of what I did last time I had their original froyo: I reached out only to find an empty space where I placed my froyo cup. Yes, I had forgotten that I already finished the thing.
However, they're very stingy with the toppings. Two tablespoons of little mango pieces for 95 cents? Aiyah. I don't usually sweat the small stuff like that, but this time I wanted to tell her "there's some room in the cup, fill it up, yo!"
I blame the economy.

I don't mean to sound like a minion to Fro-yo Girl, but I'll have to agree: this Cefiore location is a tad nicer than the Westfield store in terms of many things: ambience, quality, etc. It's probably because this shop is located right in the SOMA/Financial District area, beside the Academy of Art University. I feel like in general, shops down this way are nicer, cleaner, etc. to cater to the particular crowd.
The line was a bit long and slow this afternoon since there was only one froyo-ista (I'm not sure of what one would call a worker at a froyo shop). She was precise in her swirling, though, so that made up for the wait. Prices are the same as at the Westfield location, and this time, I made sure to emphasize that I wanted the 3-topping combo (no more getting ripped off). Has anyone else noticed how large froyo shop containers are in general? Really, a mini isn't really even a mini; in terms of measuring cups, a mini would be about 1 cup already. The S/M/L look quite intimidating to me as that's a lot of froyo to be eating. Granted, of course, eating so much froyo is better than eating so much ice cream, but still...in the end, froyo is a sweet treat, just not as diet-crushing as a large ice cream sundae.
The toppings seemed to be at low levels around 5pm, but they were fresh to the taste. It had been awhile since I had original tart froyo, so I went with that and kiwi, pineapple and mochi as my toppings. Fro-yo Girl was right: the froyo wasn't quite so melty as the mall location. It was an icy yet creamy tart flavor; a good mid-day snack along with the fruit and mochi.
The ambiance of the store fit the neighborhood: chic and modern, like most froyo shops. The stools were fun, and the counters were clean. All of the pictures were quite enticing of the different flavors: their new feature is chocolate froyo. Unfortunately, I can't really eat chocolate these days (long story, kind of), but I would have liked to try the chocolate flavor.
Overall, though, the store was just okay to me; nothing super special, but it wasn't terrible either. The mini combo ($4.25 plus tax) is a good size for anyone not completely into eating a ton of froyo, and the toppings are fair for the money.
Cefiore wins for great service. I sat around for thirty minutes waiting for my lost friend to find his way here...but they didn't mind! Luckily there were copies of The Onion available to keep me company. The store is very clean and cute and the girl working there was sweet and lovely.
I sampled all four of the available flavors: Original, Golden Cherry, Green Tea, and Raspberry Pom. The Original was my favorite, a good balance of creamy and icy. The Golden Cherry and Raspberry Pom had the distinct taste of fruit juice.
I settled on a Small of Original, Golden Cherry and Raspberry Pom (you can choose as many flavors as you like!) with fresh pineapple, strawberry, and mochi. The small was HUGE (http://static.px.yelp....) but set me back $5.50.
Unfortunately, my froyo froze me from the inside! I literally started shaking one-third of the way through my yogurt...and my teeth started chattering and I had trouble talking. I came close to finishing the yogurt...but no avail. Lesson learned: do not eat a huge cup of yogurt when it's 50 degrees outside. I bet the froyo tastes better when it's warmer, but it was 3 stars based on Monday's experience. The flavored yogurt had a bit of powdery feel to it, and there was something about the mochi not quite right. But the Froyo probably would have tasted better had I not been quite painfully freezing.
Yes, this is one of those modern/cool/hip fro yo places that have popped-up all over SF. I've been to a few of them and what makes this one stand out is one of their flavors: açaí
While I'm more of a chocolate person and not really into fruit flavors, for some reason, this one is really good! It's not too sweet, slightly sour and doesn't have that chemically flavor that many frozen yogurt places have. I'm not sure how many of the other frozen yogurt places have this flavor (it's the first time I've seen it), but I'm glad this place offers it.
The service is excellent and Crunch members get a discount - not bad!
Cefiore accomplished two things:
1. Got this fro-yo lover to consistently order another flavor besides plain tart! I was ALL about plain tart and only plain tart before, regardless of the place I was getting it from. I mean really. If you knew me, you'd know how serious I was about my plain tart. I don't joke around about that stuff.
2. Actually got me to like something Acai Berry-flavored, which I've never really been a fan of. But omg the icy tart berry flavor makes my tastebuds smile. It was love at first lick and I've been a fan ever since. I could eat it even in this cold San Francisco weather.
Acai Berry flavor fro-yo with mochi on top. Do it now, thank me later.

Review #888! (My Asian Corny Superstitions saved this place for that number... since 8's are good numbers....)
This place was pretty good! The flavors are clean and fresh and they don't result in a funny aftertaste.
I was in here awhile back with my family when I saw the store clerk wearing a Virgin America shirt. I immediately asked her where she got it and she said that they were passing them out on Valentine's day last year. Yippeee!!! It's nice to know that people actually wear the shirts that we passed out!!!
The portions are generous, flavors minimal, toppings slightly limited compared to other places but the quality is pretty top notch. It comes in my list just under Delatti's... tied with Tartini. Tartini has a fresher tart taste but its icier and Cefiore has a creamier not as tart taste. Definitely depends on my mood! :)
Meh, tastes like biting into a glade plug in- too perfumey and the small size is huge, i'm not shopping at costco here, its okay to have a small size actually be smaller. I had a peach flavor and it was waaay too creamy for any type of fruit flavor other than strawberry, it was kinda disarming and didn't have a soft flavor most peach flavored or actual peaches have... not too thrilled, i'd rather walk around the corner and go to one of 3 other fro yo places.
There has been a serious explosion of fro yo places recently. So what differentiates this place from Red Mango or Pinkberry? Well whichever one sucks the most, you don't go to. Awful strategy, but it works.
Cefiore was very simple and I decided to stick to the chocolate flavor with some crumbled oreos. Light and creamy and nothing fancy. I opted not to go with the more extravagant toppings.
This might not be a helpful review. But then again...absence of an overly critical review might just tell you more than you expect. :-P
Foods that go together:
- Peanut butter and jelly
- Ketchup and fries
- Hamburger and bun
- Popcorn and butter
- Waffles and frozen yogurt
Wait. What. Did I just type waffles and frozen yogurt? Yes I did. Two things I never would have put together were in not for Cefiore, my new favorite dessert spot in soma.
I couldn't think of any better way to celebrate this amazing January weather than by having frozen yogurt for lunch. Granted, I don't really need a reason for froyo, but when it is 70 degrees outside, you just have to go for it.
And go for it I did. Their eclectic flavors included raspberry pomegranate and acai berry, and because I couldn't choose between the two, they were more than happy to put both on top of my waffle. Yes, my waffle, because at this place, you can get them together.
For $6 it comes with your choice of three toppings, so when it all came out, this froyo + fruit + waffle + maple syrup + powered sugar creation of goodness turned into one of my best "lunches" in a while. And it all comes with stellar service
Add in 70 degree weather, the optimism of a new year and Obama's impending inauguration, and I found myself asking on the walk back to the office, can it get any better than this.....
Tasty. My fellow yelp buddy and neighbor, Holly F. highly recommended Cefiore in her review so I decided to give it a shot. The people working there were super nice. 5 stars just for the service - they encouraged me to try all the flavors. I really liked the green tea and raspberry pomegranate flavors.
And the balls! Mochi balls are a must have every time.
I'm going to hold out judgement until I can try the yogurt waffle combo. If it is anything like Chicken and Waffles, I'm so down.
Seems fro-yo is the new Jamba which used to be the new coffee. So many trends. I predict the next one will be milkshakes. Nice and clean place. Good for those hot summer days in SF which alas are few and far far between. :P
I LOVE CEFIORE!!
Unique and healthy flavors.. very nice quality froyo.
Golden Cherry + Raspberry pomegranate = HEAVEN!
Golden cherry has a fresh cherry taste with hints of orange, and the raspberry pomegranate was good too. New favorite place as long as they have these flavors!
dear cefiore,
i had heard of you before... but i didnt NOTICE you until i walked by and saw this poster of an absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious cup of chocolate yogurt. so today, when i was craving frozen yogurt (even with the 30 minute waiting period) i walked on over to your store and was greeted by a relatively empty store and a happy employee. asked for samples of original (tart) and chocolate and tried them expectantly.
the tart was whatever. it had an initial first taste and then kind of bleh. i compare all my tart yogurts to yogurtland and pinkberry, and this was not even close. so then, chocolate. not tart, obviously, but kind of watery/slimy looking. it tasted like chocolate, but not good enough. left and found my way to the reliable working girls cafe where i will continue to fix my cravings. dear cefiore, hello and goodbye.
The Small here is enormous, probably as big or bigger than the medium size at other comparable yogurt joints...that being said, I had a small and I really wish I had got the medium!
There are four flavors to choose from, I'm not sure if they rotate at all but I was very pleased with the selection today...Plain Tart...Acaiberry...Pomegranate/Raspberry...Green Tea. I had a small Pomegranate/Raspberry with Mochi, Kiwi, and Mango. The yogurt was sweet (but not too sweet), creamy and smooth.
Unlike other yogurt joints the fruit was cut up into fairly large pieces rather than small thin slices. I enjoyed the thick Kiwi slices which were juicy and full of flavor, however the large Mango slices seemed too big and left me with a lot of fruitless yogurt. Also, the Mochi here is amazing...it's soft, chewy and extremely fresh.
Definitely try Cefiore, and get the medium - you will be satisfied!
Nothing like a little Cefiore in the afternoon to get you over that "after lunch" food coma.
I sampled all three flavors, Acai berry, Green Tea and Pomegranate-Raspberry. It was a tough decision between the berries but I went with the Pomegrante-Raspberry and couldn't have been more happy.
Even on a cold day, the fro-yo hit the spot and got me through the dullest seminar ever!
Thanks Cefiore!
Be careful people! As Jerry Seinfeld and the gang discovered...it's not NON-FAT!!!
http://www.youtube.com...
A few years from now we could be seeing a trend of FiDi Corporate Drones with "extra baggage" because of the sudden frozen yogurt craze that swept the financial district in 2008.
I definitely recommend the green tea...it tastes better at Cefiore than at the countless other cute hello kittyish froyo places in the FiDi.
An adorable and spotlessly clean little fro-yos shop where the original (Plain) flavor tastes as close to Pinkberry as i've yet to find! Horray Fat free treats located near some fun after-work SOMA bars (ahem, and the gold club!) The staff was friendly and let me also sample the green tea which I found a bit too sweet for my tastes. They've got a buy 9 get one free program too.
Bonus points for having my favorite froyo topping: Fruity Pebbles!
When I'm too lazy to walk over to YoCup, I head over to Céfiore--don't even ask me how to pronounce the name of this place.
The place is clean, cute, and super convenient because it's open relatively late. The staff is also super friendly, young, and cute.
The yogurt quality is very high with a decent array of toppings. I really miss the green tea flavor, so that's why this doesn't get five stars.
Hands down the best FROYO in FiDI!!!
Came wandering in here one day, kinda lost, and just staring at the menu.. when this kinda cute asian guy with a faux hawk said to me, "here try a sampling!" Green tea, acaiberry, some other berry business.... i picked the acaiberry!!
i mean where else does one get acaiberry flavored froyo?! and the super friendly guy behind the counter suggested captian crunch and blueberries.. YUMMMMM!
thumbs up for the friendly staff, large portions, reasonable prices, awesome flavors!
Yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo YO
Froyo is good. It isn't icee but smooth and
Toppings good and fresh, but the mango needed to be a bit more ripe.
Friendly service.
$6.4x for a medium with two flavors and 3 toppings.
Don't forget to get your frequent FroyoER card.
I'm not really a FroYo kind of person.
I love ice cream.
I asked - what's the big deal about yogurt?
Plus, this is the 3rd gourmet yogurt shop within 1 1/2 block distance.
And who's going to buy yogurt for $5 in this recession?
I will! I love the green tea and acaiberry together, with mochi (this is real, soft mochi, not cheap), mangoes, and raspberries or blueberries. These are real, fresh, not frozen toppings.
It's very simple and so yummy. It is almost $5 for my combo and toppings. If I go 9 times - they stamp and give each person a little card to keep track, I will get a free yogurt. Let's see - that's a $50 value for a $45 price. That is pretty good, considering they offer this to everyone, everyone, everyone.
The people at the counter are so nice. I knocked on the door when they were closing once and they opened up to serve me a mini cup. I am happy they are here and now I'm halfway to a free yogurt!
I go there every time I'm on break! So good!! & Filling! Love the yogurt.
BUT!
There is so little toppings. =\ Oh well! I don't like the Chocolate. It's kind of odd to have chocolate when all the other flavors are tart.
I tried their white tea. It's pretty okay. Somewhat cost a lot $2.50 for a cup of tea!
great flavors and nice servers/cashiers. but the thing that really set this place a step up from others was that they had 'nilla wafers. 'nilla wafers rock and the use of them with fro yo is just so complimentary.
It's nothing to write home about, but I give Cefiore 3 stars only because they're the only fro yo shop by my work that has mochi. Other than that I think this place is pretty pricey at $4.65 (tax included) for a mini with three toppings.
